WikiProject Numismatics[edit]

Dear WikiProject Numismatics member:

You may have noticed the edits made by user:mom2jandk, and you may have also noticed that I have reverted most of them. I would like to leave this note as an explanation.

mom2jandk is a new user and a clearly enthusiastic member of WikiProject:Numismatics. However, he/she has made several changes (specifically to the categorization scheme) that I reverted for various reasons. Among them, he/she:

  • Created several other categories that either do not fit or fit awkwardly into the categorization scheme.
  • Nominated several categories for deletion, including United States Mint, United States Mint engravers, and others.
    • On the deletion vote for Cat:United States Mint, he seems to be confused as to the purpose of the category; it is, as I said, for articles relating to the government agency known as the United States Mint. There are mints in the United States that are not part of the United States Mint (i.e. the Franklin Mint) and his confusion over this fact seems to be the impetus for the nomination.
    • You might also notice that he nominated cat:Directors of the United States Mint; his explanation is that he broadened the category to "United States Mint officers" so that a Superintendent could be included. The "superintendent of the Mint" to which he referred was Roswell K. Colcord, who was superintendent of the Carson City Mint; there is no such office as "superintendent" for the entire United States Mint (or, if there is, it is distinct from Director of the Mint.)

After reading this fairly lengthy message, you might get the impression that I am attacking either mom2jandk or his/her edits; this is not the case. I have a great deal of admiration for him/her as a new user who is not afraid to jump in and try to improve Wikipedia and the Numismatics project. I hope he/she continues to contribute, and I believe he/she has a great deal to offer. This message is quite long because I wanted to explain the specifics of the categories (many of which, incidentally, were created by me.)

Note that I placed merge tags on most of mom2jandk's categories.

It goes without saying that, if there are any categories that should be altered and/or deleted, by all means make such changes, regardless of whether I or anyone else created them; neither I nor my edits are perfect.

Apologies for using he/she; I assume mom2jandk's user name reflects her role as a mother but I wasn't completely certain.

Hey, it's not that I want to delete it, I'd love to see it filled out, and hope you will soon, as you seem to be the only one interested in it. Anyways, I looked thru the pages you said you wanted to create pages of coins for. Thats a very neat area, I liked the coin images I saw. Do what you need to do, I won't put Fiji up for deletion. Help me I would like to upload an image but this is all I get? "." is not a recommended image file format. I am currently doing the mesosaurs, pelycosaurs, pleiosaurs, pterosaurss, anapsids, therapsids etc,as these areas are poorly covered, so I am not doing dinosaurs really but those before and contemporary with them, which is important for biodiversity. WikiProject Dinosaurs[edit]

Hi Glen/Enlil!

There's currently less than 100 dinosaurs left on the Missing dinosaur page. We've come a long way! I was thinking that since there's just under 100 dinosaurs left, and since there are 25 of us signed on for the project, if we each wrote about four articles, we'd be done! Well, not "done", obviously, as many of the articles are in need of expansion. But then we could focus on expansion and other things.

You could take, say, Mononychus, Naashoibitosaurus, Nanshiungosaurus, and Nanyangosaurus.

It's just an idea, of course, and you're of course not obligated and can do whatever you like; I just figured I'd mention the idea, and see if you were interested. No harm, right?

WikiProject Dinos![edit]

Hi Glen (Enlil)!

I wondered if you had made any progress on the dinosaurs you have left. We've got just 19 dinosaurs left on the List of Missing Dinosaurs! Woot! What a relief. We started out with over 1,000, and we're down to the last dregs. Although admittedly, most articles are still in need of expansion.

I just wondered if you'd had time to work on them. No pressure or anything. I just thought maybe you were busy, or having trouble. That's the thing. When we come down to the last few dinosaurs, it's usually dinosaur articles no one wanted to create, since they're often obscure, or hard to find good info on... I just wanted to drop you a line, and say that if you were having any problems, I'm here to help. :)

Hi Enlil, Here are a couple of links on early crocodilians, including Mesosuchians: Crocodile Evolution Mesosuchians I also added some details on Wikipedia's Mesosuchians page, and changed one detail: Mesosuchians and Crocodilians aren't examples of convergent evolution, since Mesosuchians are their direct ancestors. Thanks for the comments about Rwanda articles!

I'll endeavour to get some information etc. for the Rwandan Franc article when I can, although to be honest I don't know that much about the currency - I only use it to buy stuff! If there's anything in particular you want, let me know and I can try to find out. I can probably dig out some old notes and coins and get pics of those too. There's a whole cabinet full with loads dating back to colonial times in the national museum but it's 2 hours drive away (in Buatare) so don't know when I'll get the chance to go there again. Currency box[edit]

Hi,

I noticed that you've been adding currency infoboxes. It happens that I'm also working on the same thing. Please take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Numismatics/Sandbox for what is in progress. And as a side benefit, we can deprecate Template:Currency box. Perhaps we can work together. One thing you might be wondering is that, why is there no exchange rate in my version of currency infobox, Template:Infobox Currency. There's already a template, Template:Exchange Rate for that, and it requires more space. Template:Exchange Rate has been implemented for over 100 currencies. Icelandic króna[edit]

I don't understand. Is it me or you? Why do you have to put unverified data in currency articles, first with the conversion rate between reichsmark and Deutsche mark, then now you said Icelandic old króna had 100 króna coin and 10,000 króna banknote. I would really like to see some source that contradicts the standard catalogs. The problems:
  1. Read Instruction first
  2. Make use of image_1 and image_title_1 attributes, instead of moving pictures around (like Kazakhstani tenge)
  3. Make use of rarely_used_coins (perhaps for Renminbi)
  4. Put external website like "www.nationalbank.kz", not "http://www.nationalbank.kz", not "http://www.nationalbank.kz/ National Bank of Kazakhstan"
  5. Don't link subunit if there is no article about it (like pul)
  6. "Hong Kong monetary Authority" should be "Hong Kong Monetary Authority"
  7. If a currency is "pegged" to another, but within some range, do not use pegged_with. Use it only with fixed rate.
  8. Italicize non-sovereign state, like Hong Kong
  9. When a link is red, check the spelling and capitalization

Rarely used[edit]

How do you know that 20 Zambian kwacha, 1, 2, 5, 10 Ugandan shillings, 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 Lao kip are rarely used? Have you lived there? I know that the article of Ugandan shillings says "10 shilling coins which, although no longer produced, are still legal tender. 1, 2, 5 shilling coins were also minted during the new shilling changeover, and in that year only." I get my information from catalogs (both coins and banknotes), central bank websites, websites like [1], other websites, wikipedia or other languages. And then I combine them, eliminate any contradiction.

List of circulating currencies[edit]

I appreciate your effort of bringing information to List of circulating currencies. But I think it is better if we leave the information of smallest/largest coin/banknote to the individual articles. I am a computer programmer, and one of the biggest problems in my work life is that people copy and paste stuff, and later only 1 copy is updated and the other copies become stale and become a bug. The same applies here. In addition, it is sometimes hard to tell which one is the smallest, as the smallest may be in the process of phasing out, and a bigger unit may eventually take the smallest place. The same applies for "very large" note, like 1000 Canadian dollar around year 2000. I can find mistakes in your edits almost everyday[edit]

  • Do not include http in the currency infobox. Read the instruction (I told you this before)
  • chinese and china? This is not French Wikipedia, capitalize proper names!
  • chinese cansh? What is cansh?
  • [[Lao]]? You should know this by now, especially having edited currency related articles, that national adjective articles are usually disambiguous page to at least the people and the language.

Yes, we all make mistakes, but you do it at a much frequent rate. I feel I have no choice but to scrutinize all your edits (which is a pain), and to tell you in the hope that you won't do it again. 2nd Japanese coins image[edit]

Japanese currency and coinage[edit]

Within the template itself, I only see 1 minor issue. It pointed to a non-existing category "Japan navigational boxes". A list of existing ones can be found at Category:Navigational templates by region . I fixed that, as well as other national currency nav boxes. A bigger problem (I'm not saying it's your fault) is that the navigational boxes list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Numismatics#Denominations of the same currency are very inconsistent with one another. Perhaps they were developed during different times. I wish I could refactor them, but I highest priority right now is standard banknote/coin specification table and "Historical currencies of the same country" nav boxes. --ChoChoPK (球球PK) (talk | contrib) 09:05, 2 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
