RfA thanks![edit]

Hi Erica! Thank you for supporting my RfA. It passed at 105/1/0, putting me in WP:100 - I'm delighted and surprised! I'm always happy to help out, so if you need anything, please drop me a line. Cheers! ➨ REDVERS 20:37, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #1[edit]

Reach out is a program aimed at allowing users to bring issues that they have had in Wikipedia to a listening, sympathetic and caring audience:
"No one can know how we feel if we do not say. We cannot expect to get understanding if we do not ask for it. No one will dispute that sometimes life's issues are too much for one person. It is fair to say that sometimes Wikipedia's problems fall under the same heading. This is a place where you can bring the bruises that can sometimes be got on this project for attention."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Note from the editor
Welcome to this new format of the Esperanza Newsletter, which came about during the last Advisory Council meeting - we hope you like it! The major changes are that each month, right after the Council meeting, this will be sent out and will include two featured programs and a sum up of the meeting. Also, it will be signed by all of the Advisory Council members, not just Celestianpower. Have an Esperanzial end of March, everyone!
  1. Future meetings are to be held monthly, not fortnightly as before.
  2. Bans and Access level changes (apart from autovoice) in the IRC channel are to be reported at the new log.
  3. In the IRC channel, there is going to be only one bot at a time.
  4. The charter requires members to have 150 edits and 2 weeks editing. Why this is the case will be clarified.
  5. A new Code of Conduct will be drafted by JoanneB and proposed to the Esperanza community.
  6. The NPA reform idea is to be dropped officially.
  7. Charter ammendments are to be discussed in future, not voted on.
  8. The Advisory Council is not going to be proposed to be expanded by the Advisory Council themselves, if others want to propose it, they will listen.
Signed...

Hi,

Many thanks for your edits at the Portal. However we've already shown Voyager as the Featured picture...right at the beginning (check the page history), so we'll need to choose a new one. Any suggestions? Many thanks Pydos 20:45, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vincet Gallo[edit]

It's not vandalism, it's the truth. Have you revery read USA Today, or do you just wait for Jon Stewart to deliver you the 'news' every night? P.S. - I'm a student at Penn State University, with access to over 100 computers, all with internet access. You can NEVER block me. I'm invincible, and you can't do anything but sit on your ass and watch it happen. Welcome to the future of Wikipedia... Have a nice day. 68.81.182.9 21:46, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DELETING large amounts of text??? I was ADDING large amounts of text. Good lordy, you need to pull yourself together! P.S. - I'm clearly accomplishing something, I'm pissing off hundreds of people at once. We're part of Daniel Brandt's team, 'Wikipedia Watch', and our eventual goal to get Wikipedia privately edited. It will happen some day soon, trust me. Jimmy Wales will cave some day soon enough. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.81.182.9 (talkcontribs)

Adminship?[edit]

Hi Erica! I've seen you a lot on RC patrol, and I am impressed with your contributions. Since you have a good amount of contributions to articles, a good record of fighting vandalism, and a good record of being sensible, I wonder if you would you be interested in accepting a nomination for adminship? Sjakkalle (Check!) 14:16, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be logging off here in a few minutes and probably won't be back before Monday. I have therefore taken the liberty of setting up the nomination at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Fang Aili. If you choose to accept it, which I hope you will, you'll need to answer the questions and bring the nomination to the main WP:RFA page. Good luck! Sjakkalle (Check!) 14:58, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what script or program you're using for vandalism reverts, but like most of them it tends to produce edit strings like this. It takes longer to do things manually, but I'd really recommend it. When a recent bit of vandalism is reverted, and a previous bit ignored, it can hide the previous bit (which is often more serious) from other editors. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:07, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, if it works like "rollback", then it shares rollback's limitations. I used to do the same; I'd see that the last two edits were vandalistic, use rollback, and find that the first vandalism was still there. Rollback only reverts the edits of the last editor, so if two or more different editors have vamdalised in succession you have to revert manually. --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 16:34, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please take a step back from this article and consult its talk page. What really is going on there is a dispute between User:Nrcprm2026 and everyone else that has spilled over from Depleted uranium. The case has reached arbitration after a failed mediation.

Not everything that looks like vandalism is vandalism. The version that I reverted back to is actually the version of User:Physchim62 (or something very much like it - do check the history), who was mediator on that case and handed it back to Arbitration because James was just plain impossible to work with. (For the sake of the encyclopedia and my own sanity I do hope that James is banned from DU and friends or at least put on 1RR probation.) 82.41.26.244 20:41, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Milwaukee flag[edit]

Hi. The Milwaukee flag will probably require replacement, as the justification I used when I originally posted the flag is no longer valid for it. Nava gets all their flag images from the Flags of the World (FOTW)website, which had previous justification under the FOTW-pic tag and the PD-flag tag I originally posted, which are not valid since Wikipedia admin axed any "non-commercial use only" uses of these tags. City flags are tricky to justify at this point. Your best bet on this would be to create an image of the flag ones self and license under GFDL. Until then, this image should be deleted. Cheers. Please don't restore prod notices as you did here. Prod is for uncontroversial deletions only, so once the tag is removed, if you think the article should be deleted, you should send the article to AfD. your RFA[edit]

I understand. I would greatly appreciate it (more bluntly put: I'd change my vote to support) if, upon successful promotion to Administrator status, you'd begin hanging out in the #vandalism-en-wp IRC channel. It's where a large number of counter vandalism fighters go to communicate and it has live bot announcements that supplement (or in my case, supplant) CDVF: I find them more useful than CDVF myself. Plus, when we find multiple instances of vandalism there, there's not always an administrator watching to help out with it. Your additional set of eyes would be appreciated. That was a persistent vandal. Not sure why he/she/it/they was/were so obsessed with labelling me gay. Especially as they seemed to be using a US ISP. (For the record, I'm not gay (I'm bisexual)). Not sure what their point was. Alex Law 17:22, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning users[edit]

Hi, I see that you have been warning users who vandalize Wikipedia. It's great, but I have small request for you. Can you use '== Month year ==' on users' talk pages? It's sometimes weird when you see warning added on 'April' below 'March' section... Jacek Kendysz 14:35, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello there. You have proposed the article P.A.I.N. for deletion without providing a reason why in the {{prod}} template. You may be interested to know that you can add your reasoning like that: {{prod|Add reason for deletion here}}. This will make your reasoning show up in the article's deletion notice. It will also aid other users in considering your suggestion on the Proposed Deletions log. See also: How to propose deletion of an article. Sandstein 17:45, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2[edit]

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.

Questions[edit]

I'm relatively new to Wikipedia, formerly only making edits anonymously before deciding to join up. I see you have a lot of fun and otherwise templates on your userpage; would you be kind enough to point me towards where I can find them? I've found official templates, but none of these "harmless but useless" ones. Also, I recently came across an instance of information that was unverifiable in an article (click here) and wrote about it in the discussion page, but chose to delete it - is this common or even accepted practice? Thanks again for your time and consideration, and I hope these questions aren't too intrusive. Sethimothy 23:02, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help with a problem user[edit]

Hi Fang Aili. I'd like to request some support in the spirit of defend each-other. I've been having some problems with an anon user 67.172.194.15 (talk · contribs). The user has been causing a disruption in one of the articles I watch, Star Sonata. The user has been adding patently untrue content, removing sourced material and engaging in personal attacks. If you look at 67's contributions 90% of his edits have been in the vein of disrupting SS article. I've really tried to talk nice to this person but I've gotten nothing but insults back. Thouhg I still have problems with the concept of keeping wrong names, I can live with your arguments and will leave it at that. Thanks for the reply. Lycaon 16:35, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Old Skool Esperanzial note[edit]

Since this isn't the result of an AC meeting, I have decided to go Old Skool. This note is to remind you that the elections are taking place now and will end at 23:50 UTC on 2006-04-29. Please vote here. Thanks. --Celestianpower háblame 20:42, 23 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Closing AFDs[edit]

Hiya! If you relist an article, please remove it from the old day's log and add it to the current day's log. The reason is that a bot creates a page at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Old showing the debates which are ready for closure. It doesn't understand relistings. If you look at that page, you'll see that the 3 "open" debates for April 15 are actually your relistings :) No reply needed, and this isn't a complaint - the guidelines weren't very clear so I've just toughened them up :) --kingboyk 05:03, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome Back[edit]

Nice to have you back. You were missed! --D-Day(Wouldn't you like to be a pepper too?) 22:46, 25 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pnatt[edit]

This user is becoming a serial pest and is acting in bad faith involving himself in continual disruptive editting. I think a long ban should be considered. Xtra 10:24, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

please redelete and protect. Thanks. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 15:38, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much. Please also close this while you're at it; Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jonas Bergh. You're the best. Cheers. - CrazyRussian talk/contribs/email 15:42, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pnatt[edit]

He's just got out of his block and goes straight back to the same disruptive editing on Australian Football League [1]. Xtra 21:29, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You have to understand that I reverted from the British spelling. Pnatt 21:37, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First off, it IS AUSTRALIAN SPELLING. Second, you have been warned about twenty times now not to make that exact edit or type of edit. You cannot now come and plead "British spelling" which, mind you is closer to Australian Spelling than the American Spelling you perpetuate is. Xtra 21:44, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Which dictionary do you use? Pnatt 22:04, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If it's Maquarie then you'll have to tell me proof. Pnatt 22:05, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou. Xtra 00:29, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

PLEASE DELETE MerleFest[edit]

You are the second person to remove my speedy tag. I need someone to clear the namespace so that I can move the article to the proper name, MerleFest we will then make a redirect that goes from Merlefest to the new location at MerleFest. I have explained this in the edit history and on the page. I'm confused that you guys are able to revert without seeing these things. -MrFizyx 00:31, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fang Aili, thanks for taking care of the problem. It looks great. -MrFizyx 00:46, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, you're idea would have been fine. There was no real history to move this time. Thanks again, I do appreciate the help. -MrFizyx 02:18, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:troubles[edit]

Yes, troubles. They are among me. I don't access to Esperanza's irc or any irc for that matter so my only means of contact is here or e-mail. (yes, I have e-mail enabled). Moe ε 03:12, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
