Main page - yeah but i had removed myself  :) - the problem is the short cut of death (as mentioned in talk page) goes to dead wikipedians - what are you like on shortcut re-arrangement? SatuSuro 02:22, 17 December 2009 (UTC) Thanks for that :) SatuSuro 02:26, 17 December 2009 (UTC) Oh well over 200 categories roped in by hand as opposed to bot - god only knows how many more legitimately linkable categories out there in wikispace - there are some which even the names smell grisly - but hey getting there SatuSuro 02:03, 22 December 2009 (UTC) Actually we need a portal and a much snazzier project page as well - names on a list means very little - its the idiotically dedicated and obsessed few that usually bootstrap projects unfortunately :( SatuSuro 03:41, 22 December 2009 (UTC) OK got to 330 project cat tags - recckon the same number in sight at simple level... not even before the more difficult ones :) sigh . - most of the summary of initial exploration is coming by gmail in the next week or so SatuSuro 13:16, 23 December 2009 (UTC) Oh well with a impending bot and some enthusiastic taggers the initial stage is definitely moved on - I would think we need a portal though - any good or know any good constructors ? SatuSuro 04:29, 1 January 2010 (UTC) hehehe - that wasnt really an answer - bit like the locked filing cabinet behind the door with a sign dont feed the leopard in an abandoned mine shaft in southern peru. Oh well thanks anyways - so much for easy links to starting portal work - maybe reverse engineering has a lot to say for it SatuSuro 07:01, 2 January 2010 (UTC) That was of course meant with new year jollity and frivolity included :) SatuSuro 15:38, 2 January 2010 (UTC) Oh well still holding back on the damned portal - there are many issues that need airing still - give a heads up sometime if youre ever available for a bit of a chin wag/relatively short turn aorund conversation on the issue of the project - cheers SatuSuro 06:10, 9 January 2010 (UTC) Started the portal but stuck - might need a big shout of help soon SatuSuro 06:58, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

en dashes

Hi, I see a a few "singer–songwriter" items where you've changed hyphen to en dash. Please consider reading MoS's WP:MOSDASH. It should be a hyphen, since it's not a range or opposition. Tony (talk) 05:22, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Service awards proposal

Master Editor Hello, Geniac/Archive 10! I noticed you display a service award, and would like to invite you to join the discussion over a proposed revamping of the awards.

If you have any opinions on the proposal, please participate in the discussion. Thanks! — the Man in Question (in question) 04:23, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Service award update

Hello, Geniac! The requirements for the service awards have been updated, and you may no longer be eligible for the award you currently display. Don't worry! Since you have already earned your award, you are free to keep displaying it. However, you may also wish to update to the current system.

Sorry for any inconvenience. — the Man in Question (in question) 10:27, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

A quick note

Hello, on the article Thachanallur Pastorate you replaced several article issues tags which were placed by Eeekster and removed by Vino4all. I've removed two of them, but this is just a note to let you know that one, the notability tag, didn't apply to the article at all - pastorates are places, and places are inherently notable. I'm sure you were just reverting the removal of the banners, but I'm just letting you know why I've removed it. Cheers! Fleetflame · whack! whack! · 17:09, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

I just wanted to apologize. I tried blanking the redirect in hopes that I'd be able to move "Budd Dwyer" to "R. Budd Dwyer", but it still didn't work. File copyright problem with File:Oversight-wikilink.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Oversight-wikilink.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

Wow

When I saw this diff [1] we could sure do with you in the Indonesian project! We could clean up about 50 articles/lists just like that from their random added names that are not really ok. Anyways I have had an offline suggestion about how to resolve the problem - I need a conversation here or offline about it - please indicate your preference, thanks SatuSuro 00:04, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

I prefer on-wiki conversations about Wikipedia. I'll look through Category:Lists of Indonesian people later. --Geniac (talk) 00:13, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Hey take care about indonesian lists - its a black hole and I strongly suggest time and sanity wise to only go if you have lots of spare time
OK good - at the death project - we have had a 'sensitivity issue' ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Death) - which I seemed the only death project person doing most of the point making (sigh) and it is now in hiatus - an off line comment by someone i respect suggested if there ever was an issue from a particular area - such as massacres - that the death tags could go 'invisible' - If I remember the sense off the message (I may well have it slightly wrong) - the suggestion was made in the knowledge that there are a few historical figures (ie dead no BLP issue) with biography articles whose sexuality was suspect and when LGBT project tags got thrown (on unverified historical rumours) there were problems - the person pointed out:-
The eventual solution was to tweak the project's tag to include a statement that placing it on the talk page of people didn't necessarily mean that they were LGBT, but rather that they could also have significance to LGBT people

Which sort of makes me wonder if the death project has to make accommodation for one editor who clearly WP:IDONTLIKEIT and put a death template sans skull for those areas where complaints arise - or what? I cannot see why one editor goes for the tagger (it is in our scope) and then considers his sub page as neutral ground? I personally dont like a lot of things on wikipedia but I dont pull project tags (in most case I add them) - your opinion on this matter would be appreciated. SatuSuro 00:32, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Maybe (comments at the project talk page - but there are still something like 16 articles which have had the tag removed with typical comment [2] and that remains unchallenged - and I had to take the brunt of the conversation - I personally walk away after interactions like that as I assume there is a distinct lack of good faith or understanding WP:ABOUT to go any further - so there also WP:CANVASSING issues at the balkan projects as well [3]. I would have gone for a noticeboard comment on it but what with the BLP wars you have to shout, then duck for cover to get anything heard in the roar :( SatuSuro 00:45, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

The policy cited on wikiproject death talk area such as "don't like it" "Not censored" is all to do with content. This issue has nothing whatsoever to do with content and everything to do with the sensitivity of wikipedians. Placing a grinning skull and a "this topic comes under wikiproject death" with a link to a nice black gothic wikiproject on the talkpage of articles detailing events where people have recently lost loved ones is not a wikipedia content issue at all but a wikipedians behaviour issue relevent to the way wikipedia is presented and will be percieved. Accusing me of canvassing is an absolute nonsense. I went to the main wikiprojects who deal with those articles and informed them of the issue. As these wikiprojects all deal with the articles in question I have every right to express my opinions on the issue on these wikiproject talkpages just as SatuSuro does on wikiproject death. Although only recently involved in these articles this editor is now treating the situation as if wikiproject death WP:OWNs them (another thing I have been accused of). This WP:wikilawyering does not help us to have any sort of sensible debate on this issue. I have already declared that I will not remove templates if the wikiproject chooses to replace them. I am a very reasonable editor and willing to debate anything but having long lists of accusations (including POV!) thrown at me along with long diatribes on irrelevant policy makes it impossible to discuss the actual issues. I will declare my personal interest here if it helps. As a geophysicist I professionally visited Bosnia and Herzegovina to assist in locating mass graves. I have seen and talked to relatives of those killed and I have witnessed excavations of mass graves. It is not me who is personally offended by a skull picture. I am simply considering the image of wikipedia in the light of my real life experience and trying to have some empathy for what it would be like for a relative to see this banner. Inappropriate Edit made by FitzColinGerald on Tellabs page

Hi Geniac. I noticed that you have edited the Tellabs page before. Could you please look at it? The revision made as of 08:17, 31 January 2010 (edit)by user FitzColinGerald is inappropriate and should be removed promptly (Key people: ]
Whipping boy: Brian Gawick) I'm an employee of the company and know that it's frowned upon to edit the page myself, but this really is inappropriate. Notashortstory1 (talk) 14:36, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Portal:Psychology/Did you know/1 states that "Boston Legal actress Meredith Eaton-Gilden (pictured) is also a practicing clinical psychologist?". This obviously was written by someone with little or no training in clinical psychology. First, nothing in her article states that she practices clinical psychology. The article (and the source you provided) only states that she has a Master's degree in clinical psychology. Having a degree and practicing are not interchangeable. Secondly, in almost all U.S. states, a doctoral degree is required for the title "psychologist" and a license is required for practicing clinical psychology; neither of these criteria are indicated in the article (or the source). Thus, this DYK item is roughly equivalent to saying that actress Jane Doe, who has some paralegal training but has never worked as a paralegal, is a "practicing attorney". It is grossly inaccurate. (Parenthetically, child actress Missy Gold is, in fact, a practicing psychologist. She has a doctoral degree and currently practices in Maine, USA). 71.77.21.198 (talk) 03:12, 20 February 2010 (UTC)

Did you bother reading the above before issuing this warning? And did you bother reading this edit summary before issuing same warning? And please, where is your evidence that she is a practicing therapist (as I said, having a degree and practicing are two entirely different matters)? As an example, Robert Jarvik has an M.D. but has never had a license to practice medicine. Do you think it would be appropriate to describe him as a "practicing physician"? Do you have any understanding of the healthcare professions and the difference between having a degree and practicing? If you don't, may I suggest you are editing about a matter of which you have little or no understanding. I don't edit articles that pertain to nuclear physics because I have no knowledge of the subject matter; do you think I should just dive in and start adding whatever pops in my mind because I've heard of nuclear physics but have never studied it? I could easily issue you a warning for adding unsourced information, but I have the courtesy to raise the issue here first? Does that type of courtesy matter to you? Is this your typical behavior, given your status as an admin? I hope you will have the courtesy to consider and respond to these questions. Thank you. 71.77.21.198 (talk) 02:19, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
Once again, did you read the above posts before messaging me? I was not referring to the article Meredith Eaton. I was referring to the mention of her in Portal:Psychology/Did you know/1, which does in fact state that she is a practicing therapist, not that she considers herself a therapist. I might consider myself a practicing attorney, but that doesn't make me one, nor does it entitle someone to state in a Wikipedia entry that I am one. You insisted on restoring the DYK item (several times), even warning me not to delete it. So once again, from Portal:Psychology/Did you know/1, where is your evidence "Meredith Eaton-Gilden is [not considers herself] also a practicing mental health therapist"? Thank you. 71.77.21.198 (talk) 04:40, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
By the way, you completely ignored my questions about whether you read the above messages and my edit summary on Portal:Psychology/Did you know/1 before issuing a warning to me. So I must conclude that you don't consider such courtesies as actually reading messages before making warnings an important practice on Wikipedia. 71.77.21.198 (talk) 04:46, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

User talk:92.29.45.24

HI Geniac,

Why was the revisions I made considered not constructive? I am not happy about the arbitrary way in which the changes were reversed and I would like to appeal. How does that work?

Johnbroomfield (talk) 16:15, 22 February 2010 (UTC)

Nick Broomfield

Hi Geniac, I understand the problem now, no offence intended. The sentence that I am still seeking to have removed is the one that states, "Instead of a detailed script, the actors were only given an outline of each scene and where the story was going. The outline is reportedly based on rumours, as the trial had not even begun when the filming began". There are two problems here. Firstly, there is a contradiction with the preceding sentence which mentions and cites evidence for a detailed script. None of the citations in defense of the sentence quoted here actually says that there was no script. Citation 12 discusses a detailed treatment - but this contradicts citation 10 which is from the financiers of the films where a script, and not treatment is discussed. The second problem with the quoted sentence is the allegation that rumors were used because the trial had not been completed. The script is not based on the trial for the Haditha Massacre but on the NCIS report, which was completed in 2006, before the film was made. [1] I therefore believe that the sentence is maliciously motivated and has inadequate citations. This is why I wish to have it removed.

I am also seeking to remove Mr, Broomfield's date of birth as I do not feel it adds any value to the page and is information that could be abused.

I hope this is more constructive and will add to the discussion on Broomfield's page.

Johnbroomfield (talk) 15:59, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

NCIS citation

I have added a citation in which the NCIS report and its relationship to the film is explicitly discussed. The citation originally placed was to defend the position that the film was based on a report that was completed before filming. I have read the COI issues and can respect them fully - after all I have been open in stating my position. As I keep restoring my edits, I do so with citations as I have done in this instance. I trust it is adequate. Thanks for your patience.

What would consist as evidence for Nick Broomfield's reluctance to have his complete date of birth on the site? Are you contactable on email? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnbroomfield (talkcontribs) 09:45, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia Online Ambassadors program

Hi Geniac! Because of your interest in Wikipedia:WikiProject Classroom coordination (and because you're a generally helpful and friendly Wikipedian) I wanted to invite you to apply for the Wikipedia Online Ambassadors program. It's part of a project the Wikimedia Foundation is doing to get professors and students more involved with editing, and Online Ambassadors will be helping coordinate assignments and will mentor students who are assigned to edit. Cheers!--Sage Ross - Online Faciliator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 14:26, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the message about registering identities; I'm sorry to hear that it's a deal-breaker for you, but I respect the desire to protect anonymity. The reason we're requiring it for Online Ambassadors is similar to the reason it's required for OTRS volunteers: it creates a little more accountability for people who are going to be representing Wikipedia in a WMF-recognized capacity. (On a practical level, we'll also be sending Ambassadors Wikipedia sweatshirts, but that could in principle be done with just usernames and addresses or people could opt out.) Even if you don't want to apply for the Ambassadors program, I hope you'll consider helping out with the courses. --Sage Ross - Online Faciliator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 02:13, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I checked with the people in the office who actually deal with identity stuff to find out what the policy/procedure was, and I was wrong. Actually, it looks like all that we're going to require is that you be over 16, and we're not going to file away personal information related to the Ambassadors (beyond contact info for communicating with them, of course).--Sage Ross - Online Faciliator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 22:28, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

The editing through the IP could simply be a mistake of a newcomer and has not today approached 3RR even combined. I think the editor sincerely wants the best for Rajesh Khanna, but doesnt quite yet get that the goal should be the "best Rajesh Khanna article following Wikipedia principles" and I am not sure a block would help move the user in that direction. Newbie

Hello Geniac, Thank you for introducing yourself. I am "Ismee" and I'm part of the Georgetown University Wikipedia project. My topic is the Arab Congress of 1913 (the students in our class are all Arab Studies grad students). I'm confused about the code for formatting our pages. I guess I'll browse the resources you listed first before bothering you with basic questions :-). Ismee (talk) 03:12, 18 October 2010 (UTC)

How's your Online Ambassador experience going so far?

Hi Geniac/Archive 10,

We're starting to get into the busy part of the semester for Online Ambassadors, and we want to check in and see how you're doing, what your opinions about where we are now, and any feedback you may have.

Please answer these questions either on my talk page or send them to me by email.

1. How many mentees are you currently working with?

2. Have you reached out to students who don't have mentors yet? If not, would you be willing to?

3. What do you think of the content of messages on the Google Group?

4. What do you think of the volume of messages on the Google Group?

5. Do you participate on the Google Group much? If not, what would make you participate more?

6. Are there any problems you've experienced so far?

7. Is there anything else Sage or the rest of the Public Policy Initiative team could do to make your experience as an Online Ambassador better?

8. Are you okay sharing your username with your answers to our Public Policy Initiative team, or would you prefer to remain anonymous?

Thanks for your feedback! --Ldavis (Public Policy) (talk) 19:28, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

wiki project. Hi. I was wondering if you could help me edit my new wikipedia page on Arab immigration to the United States. It would be a big help to me. Also, if you could contact me on my email rather then through wikipedia i would appreciate it as it is easier for me to converse through. Thanks for the help. mcollins131@gmail.com Mrc78 (talk) 23:55, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi Geniac, wondering if you had a chance to look at my page yet. Would love to hear your comments and make edits. Thanks.

Thank you so much for reviewing my article. I now feel much more secure about it. I think I will go ahead and try to nominate it for "Did you Know?" Again, thank you for your assessment. SoAuthentic(talk)SoAuthentic 17:13, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Numbering

Hello, thanks Geniac for your feedback. I'm trying to number my title section in the Homeland Security Act article from 1-17 but it keeps giving the sections all 1s as numbers. Is this a glitch? I used the same "#" code for my Cyber ShockWave article and it worked. Can you help me fix this? user:SoAuthentic 15:16, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

students to mentor

Are you up for a few more mentees? The Political Economy of Technology and Science is looking for mentors on a per-article basis (with usually two students per article, but one mentor). If you've not reached your limit, please sign up as the mentor for Demand side management and Power purchase agreement on the course page, and leave notes introducing yourself for the four students working on those articles (and update the mentors page). User:Shrik88music

Hi Geniac, I am serving as a mentor for Shrik88music, primarily to help him understand Wikipedia's policies and how they're applied. He is not a native English speaker, but I believe is well-intentioned and wants to improve the encyclopedia. At the moment he seems to be having some difficulty understanding why you have applied a sockpuppet tag to his page. I saw your explanation on his talk page, but I don't think it's helped him much, as he's left another note on my page asking for some assistance. Could you walk me through why you believe he has abused multiple accounts, so that I can explain it to him in a fuller way (which you understandably probably don't have the patience for)? I appreciate your assistance in helping me help him to understand what's happening on his talk page. — e. ripley\talk 15:37, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi again, thank you very much for taking the time to do this. I've reviewed the edits and they certainly are emblematic of the sort of editing that Shrik88music has done, and it may well have been him making these edits. And, of course, logging out to edit in order to avoid a block is certainly abusing the system as you noted. However, if I'm reading his block log correctly, the block was in effect between Oct. 15 and Oct. 22, and none of the editing activities on these IPs occurred during that timeframe. 111.119.196.239 (talk · contribs)'s activity was on Oct. 8, 120.138.125.184 (talk · contribs)'s activity was on Oct. 13, 120.138.125.186 (talk · contribs)'s activity was on Aug. 17, 122.177.31.117 (talk · contribs)'s activity was on Oct. 9, 122.177.97.143 (talk · contribs)'s activity was on Oct. 5. So I am not sure that it's appropriate to tag Shrik88music with a sockpuppet template suggesting he has abused other accounts, based solely on this. It seems likely that at least some of this activity was him editing while logged out, but there's no suggestion that this logged-out editing was inappropriate on its face, and certainly wasn't relevant to his block. (Maybe there were other problems with the edits, but I can't say.) I hope you won't be offended -- being an administrator is a hard and thankless job -- but I also don't want Shrik88music, who has had a bit of a problematic history but who I think means well, to be accused of something he doesn't seem to have done. — e. ripley\talk 15:11, 15 November 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your message, I completely understand where you're coming from. — e. ripley\talk 17:20, 16 November 2010 (UTC)

WP:OUTTING

Geniac, I am concerned that this may constitute outing. What do you think? Basket of Puppies 02:47, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

It's been suppressed, as it qualifies as inappropriate. Please don't try to link off-wiki identities with on-wiki usernames. Risker (talk) 02:55, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Basket of Puppies, you posted {{uw-coi}} to Lopes2, suggesting an affiliation with the Center on Media and Child Health. Why? What makes you think there might be a COI? --Geniac (talk) 03:12, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
Through the use of words like "we" in the article. Makes me assume there might be a COI. However, I would never try to figure out who or make an assumption of identity. Basket of Puppies 05:10, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
I see only 3 occurrences of "we" in the article, all of which seem to mean "we" as in "society", not as in "our organization". Those "we"s would not make me assume there might be a COI. The username makes me assume there might be a COI. --Geniac (talk) 05:27, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
I read it entirely differently- the "we" is written from a first person/organizational POV, meaning the person writing it works for the group. However, I never go beyond that and only inform them of a possible COI using the appropriate template. I never go to the relevant website and start poking around the staff section and see if I can relate a wiki username to a staff member. And I certainly wouldn't reveal that information on wiki, as it is a violation of the privacy policy. Basket of Puppies 16:06, 17 November 2010 (UTC)

Online Ambassador selection process

Please share you views on the current version of the proposed Online Ambassador selection process, which the steering committee has recommended for adoption by the ambassadors program. Once we settle on a selection process, we can start recruiting more Online Ambassadors for next term (in which we will have more students, and the students will be more involved with mentors from early on).--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 15:19, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject United States Public Policy

Hey Geniac, my partner and I were looking for some input on our project thus far. It's in my sandbox if you'd like to take a look at it. In addition to that, we had a question: is it okay to take a direct quote from another website and paste it within our article if we cite it and format it appropriately? If so, what is the proper formatting and citation? The information we would like to quote directly is a list of things that could go wrong within a PPA; it's difficult to reword. Thank you!

I dont know whats wrong with you. You have removed my well sourced contents only because you got disgraced and insulted by someone else. Who is this person?

[4] Do you have any idea? He keeps making sockpuppets; we've both been blocking them. Do you know what the original account was and what his point is? Antandrus (talk) 01:26, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

FYI -- I mentioned you briefly at WP:ANI regarding this same editor, and another with the same modus operandi that I believe is a different person. Cheers, Antandrus (talk) 17:31, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Planning for next term in the Wikipedia Ambassador Program

Hi Geniac. We're trying to figure out how many students we can mentor next term and how many additional Online Ambassadors will be needed. Based on the revised plan for what participating courses will be like next term, I've sketched out what will be expected of mentors. Please look that over, and then go to the online ambassadors talk page to indicate much mentoring and other ambassador activities you'd like to do next term. Thanks!--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 18:13, 8 December 2010 (UTC)

Why you declared "deletable caption/file" ?

Hey, i just saw that you made an image-caption at List of members of the 14th Lok sabha of India candidate for deletion. I don't know, what made you think it as deletable....it's a parliament house of india & shouldn't it appear on page related to it, & caption is in both national languages of india (Hindi & English). I want your clarification, you must at least discuss about such things first before taking actions.Bill william compton (talk) 21:29, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Hey. While the first edit may have contained original research and, I admit, personal/subjective opinion, I maintain that the second edit contained neither, and was backed up by citations. Care to open a dialog? 79.129.215.152 (talk) 23:52, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

I realize you must be extremely busy, so I wish to thank you for taking your time to research my edit. As far as I can remember (I can't currently recall how to view past versions of an entry) I never mentioned that is dead, only that it is stalled and delayed more than would be acceptable (sorry for weasel word). Also the said post only mentions a minimum of two months delay, which doesn't mean anything as far as progress goes. Secondly, the poster is a Voice Actor and not a developer (Even though her profile mentions otherwise - this can be seen in the staff roster part of the page). And finally, I would go as far as to suggest COI, as this information is certainly against the developers' interests.

Thank you again for your time. 79.129.215.152 (talk) 13:28, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Edits to Mohammed Rafi

Hi Geniac. The singer is referred to in most references as legendar/leading, etc. What is the issue if one uses the same language? For eg; from 1950-1960s, he was undisputedly the most popular male singer with almost no competetion - this a fact and almost all the reference pages (out of 70 odd references/citations) state this fact. Is it still considered a biased view? Please advise. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ClintonSS (talkcontribs) 04:15, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
