Greater precision is not sabotage. The count in the election of Wyatt Roy is not yet complete, and preferences have not yet been distributed. I won't revert the part that you are objecting to, but I will re-add useful information that you deleted. Giles Martin (talk) 16:53, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

No, I do understand. That page is a list of "QLD Divisions where the TCP Result > 50.50% or the division has been declared". In the case of the Division of Longman, Wyatt Roy has a Two Candidate Preferred Percentage of 52.00%. However, that doesn't mean the result has been declared: the Divisional Returning Officer still has to count absentee and postal votes, then distribute preferences. It's theoretically possible (but very unlikely) that the ALP candidate will win, so the result has not yet been declared. And the page for Wyatt Roy now says "Wyatt Roy (born 1990), Australian politician, is expected to be elected ..." -- that wording as added by someone else, not by me. So please don't throw the word "sabotage" around so lightly. Giles Martin (talk) 12:41, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

NBHS stuff

Greetings Giles, good effort on NBHS, and I've left a note on your Facebook site too. The admin guy is being obstinate, but I am tending to think now that he is right about the best course being to start a new page for NBHS. Else, (as they say in the world of pings instead of otherwise, in order to save valuable time) we or I could get the other old boys to put something on the talk page to try to convince him that there is a genuine interest in this. I might put something on the Talk page anyway. He will probably remove it, even if it is totally within the ambit of discussing how the page could be improved.

If a new page is deemed to be the better option, then one would only have to make a brief stub, with perhaps a black and white piccie of the school front and the crest, with a very general note on dates and so on, and then the old boys could chip in with stuff. It's not an enormous priority, but it only needs to be done once, and then would need no updating. And if it is not done by the old boys now, then historical insight and personal perspective (cleverly concealed as objective fact) will be forever lost. And that would not do, would it? NBHS stuff 2

Hi Giles. I'm thinking of visiting the US. How are your contacts with the Consulate going?

But re: NBHS. All I have done recently is to insert a red rectangle next to Hannel House in the School Info box. Aussie Legend, who is running the show in that "neck of the woods" but with whom I have buried a hatchet, has added a green rectangle for Shortland. He opines of the two which are currently blank that one is "probably yellow". This rapid and pathetic onset of Alzheimers on an entire cohort who were once the creme de la creme adds urgency to the call to flesh out the history of our Alma Mater before we are all dribbling on our grey cardigans in the Old Folks home.

Just a few points:

1. you have a suitable black and white photo of the school front, which I have downloaded onto my USB. If you give permission, I could upload that to the NBHS page, though I am having trouble deciphering the 50 page instructions on how to do that written by the supreme Geekboys who write this stuff. Or you could do it if you know how.

2. Do you have contacts with the old boys network? Perhaps they could send in some material. I have a few copies of the annual Novocastrian, and I will post in the School Pledge. But I do not have a copy of the School Song. I noted in the Talk Page for NBHS that it is historically interesting because Waratah is as flat as a pancake, and the Hill is, I presume, Perkins St, which must be one of the steepest residential streets in Australia.

3. Is there a proper link to the old boys group. I don't really know anyone there, but I think that the extant literature, OTIS, and the Novocastrian mags should be scanned and put there. The material on Australian subjects is woeful in general. Every trivial American story is accorded pages of text and photos, links and archives, while stories of great significance in Australia have virtually nothing. The talk page for "Cetacean Intelligence" has a note on "Old Tom" written my me, which gives a good example of this. The other good example is that we appear to be the only matriculants of NBHS who have done anything at all for documenting this school for posterity. 2. Sorry, I don't have any contacts with the Old Boys. Yes, the "hill" in the school song would be Newcastle Hill.

3. The link to the Old Boys on the Wiki page still works. I agree that it would be useful to collect material there, but there might be copyright problems. (Authors of individual articles would still own copyright in them, and it would be a large task to contact all and get permissions.) Meanwhile, the Newcastle Region Library does have a collection of the Novocastrian which looks about 90% complete. And I have no idea what the house colours were: I only remember the house names because I still remember the school song. Giles Martin (talk) 17:19, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

I watch that article along with hundred's of other school articles, and seems that lately, every time I log on to Wikipedia, I have had to delete something from that article regarding the "rape crew" controversy. Thank you. Of course I've heard about the alleged rapes, but I was interested in Steubenville because I visited it twice in 2009 -- as part of a project to take pictures of every county courthouse in Ohio. I was very impressed by the high quality of the buildings in downtown Steubenville, of which I have loaded some pictures to Flickr at http://www.flickr.com/photos/75905404@N00/sets/72157618379008917/ .
