Thanks for letting me know; I always check to see what happens when I tag a page. I've only had a few declined, and most of them ended up deleted anyways (my talkpage has two examples). Glad that it could be salvaged after all; I'm not too great at content, so I generally do maintenance (although I am attempting to reconstruct Autobiography of a Geisha- I've gotten at least some of it done, but I need the book). It's good that you follow up! I generally like to let people know when I remove their speedy tags, even if I'm improving the article and the tags were, in fact, legitimate. I'm not very good at content either, but I do like to branch out from time to time. I looked at Autobiography of a Geisha -- it looks promising! I removed the tag because that tag is not applicable to that page. If you read it carefully, it says "This excludes the sandbox and the users' own user space". You need to be more careful in which pages you tag for deletion, and which criteria you use. I am going to delete the page, however, but under a different rationale. Hi GorillaWarfare, thank you for the fast answer to my problems. I have added now 2 citations from serious web sites (official sites of the Berlin government and the varieté-theatre Friedrichstadt Palast). I hope i have done it correctly. It seems rather hard to find English references as i have not been able to follow English papers during the time of the East German regime. But i hope the page should now get the o.k. of the community? I will appreciate your help should there be further approvements necessary! However there are stil a few problems. The "Distinction" section sounds pretty POV. You're going to want to provide citations for those facts. The article still needs more references, I think. It would be preferable to get some English references, but I see your point about difficulty finding them. If you could find more references to verify more of the information, that would be preferable. Declining speedy deletion of Ramón Ayala

thanks for your quick response, i wasn't sure if the db-a7 tag applied to this article or not, the article itself does imply some credibility. a chuckle i came across while researching this topic; if you search "ramon ayala grammy" on google, the most credible sources that come up are talking about "the mexican grammy winner who went to jail" for some drug offense. cheers, thanks again WookieInHeat (talk) 03:22, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's generally a good rule to not tag for speedy deletion if you have any doubt. If you're unsure, it's a great idea to check the relavent notability policy, which in this case is WP:BAND. If you're still unsure, prodding and AfD are usually better alternatives. And yeah, I did notice that when I was looking for sources too. This issue is very famous in Sri Lanka. Family of Premakeerthi de Alwis has already published a book about this issue. It may very well be famous -- I wouldn't know, as I'm not from Sri Lanka. However, Wikipedia has a policy that all information, particularly contentious material about people, must be from verifiable third-party sources. Please do not continue to add this information unless you can find a source to cite that can back it up. If the issue is so famous, there will be references to back it up. I believe you're trying to say that there has been no official ruling on who committed the murder. That's fine. However, saying that the murder has been blamed on the JVP is okay because there are two reliable sources that blame the JVP for it. If you can find a reliable source (newspaper, magazine, book, news website, etc.) that blames the murder on Hudson Samarasinghe, then that too can be added into the article. I have re-added the information about the JVP because I think it is valuable to the article. Please start using edit summaries. Hey there- Thanks for the congrats on DYK. Honestly, I didn't expect that something like that would happen. In terms of the edits, I've had some other assignments recently, but I'm going to get to cleaning up the article after next week's class. I have a few assignments due between now and then, and since readers haven't left any grievances or suggestions on the discussion page, I'll read over the pages on the summary style, and see how I can incorporate that into the article. My worry would be that in the pursuit of making the article shorter that the reader would lose what I think are important details about the process. No worries! There is a delicate balance between having too much much information and being too long, and being a reasonable length and losing detail. However, keep in mind that with an article as long as yours, it's unlikely that a person would read through all those details at all. Hey GorillaWarfare- I've done some thinking about shortening the article. I've gone over the article and moved a section to the top, and added wikilinks where they are appropriate. In terms of breaking down the article, I think I'm going to leave it as is. It's a complex policy with a long, complex history. I realize the text and prose is lengthy, and that a causal reader might not make it all the way through the article. However, my thought is that people deliberately looking for de-Ba'athification are not exactly casual readers. They may be, but my general thought is that those looking for an article on de-Ba'athification are a pre-selected group that also probably know what they are looking for and will just go to that section of the article. I'll keep monitoring the talk page to see if anyone else raises the length issue, and if at some point the Wiki community wants to split it up into several articles, I would be ok as long as the separations made sense. Right now, I like the article as a single unit, and for the purposes of my Public Policy Initiative contribution, I'm going to leave it as is. I will still be updating it, and will likely nominate it for GA over the Winter Break (which may very well involve shortening it), but as of now, my edits to it are basically complete. You didn't violate anything in posting in this fashion -- communication is a good thing! The reason it doesn't show up in my contributions is because deletions aren't done in the same way as an edit to a page. They show up in a different log. Mine can be found here, if you want to look through any. Deletion logs for other administrators can be found from the same page, by entering the administrator's username in the "User" box.
As for the Greg Meunder page, I don't believe a page by that title ever existed... I don't see it in my deletion logs, and there seems to be no history of a deletion by any other administrator. Are you sure that that is the exact title of the article? Let me know, and I'll try to figure it out for you. Cheers! I agree, that was very bizarre... I'd be happy to have another adoptee. It appears that BlackImperial has already been offered adoption by another user, so between the two I'd go with Skibden. BCLH requests an adopter who also speaks Spanish, and, although I can communicate on a basic level, I doubt that's what s/he's looking for. I'll go put a note on Skibden's user talk page. Hey Gorilla, I don't know if you looked at the deleted article, and at the diff I placed on the talk page. An article is made for a specific person with a claim that's potentially hurtful, embarrassing, what not--that she was dating a mass murderer--backed up by a statement on that murderer's talk page that appears to be supported by sources. I wanted it gone before it started showing up elsewhere, mirrors and such, and that's why I posted the note on ANI. You know that those things can go fast, and you know that sometimes it takes a while for someone to get through the stack of CSDs. I hope that explains my posting. Thanks. An update from adopt a user

Hi there GorillaWarfare! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.

On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.

Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.

Why are you putting yourself up for adoption -- do you just want to improve as an editor or are you interested in eventually getting other user rights?
Also, I was looking through your contributions and I must say, for such a new account you really have a grasp on creating articles! The first edit you made (creating Remains of the Gods) is quite impressive -- you've included wikilinks, good sections, even an infobox! It's quite well done. One thing I might suggest is adding a critical reception section, although I'm having a bit of trouble finding reviews by reliable sources. If you could find some way to add more meat to the article, that would be good. One thing I like to do for inspiration on album articles is look at other articles on albums. Thanks. I'm still learning how to add sources and information. Currently I;m just trying to learn the script language all of the boring stuff. I haven't added any sources or references due to I'm still working on formatting them and other things. I was wondering how could you add another album cover to an article. The one I just uploaded recently has been the original copy. The before was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Herocyclecover.png. Could you guide me through and help me add it as an extra album cover? I've tried multiple times and can't seem to get the coding right and about me. Wow, I always have trouble with these things. I'm a senior in high school. I aspire to be a tattoo artist in the future and as you already know I love metal. I don't really care much for the rights. I just want to improve myself as an editor in whole. What I want to learn from you? That one is tough. I guess everything that'll help me to become an established editor here on wikipedia. One thing I always suggest for adding sources is RefTools. If you go into your preferences, you can enable it in your gadgets. It's really useful in adding sources, and you don't have to wrestle with complicated citation templates. As for adding an alternate album cover, it can be done in the infobox. This is detailed here. Try reading up at Identifying reliable sources. Lots of good information to be had there. Reviews can be used as sources, as long as they're from reliable sources. Like I said earlier, some obscure hobbyist blogger shouldn't be used as a reference, but something like Allmusic could be. Also: beware of reputable sources that contain information that isn't published by the source itself. Sometimes user comments can masquerade as reliable content. Whichever you prefer. As for the template format... do you mean the infobox? If you look at each infobox's template page, it usually says. Template:Infobox musical artist is for all non-classical musicians (individual and group). Classical musicians usually don't have infoboxes, as consensus decided it was counterproductive. Oh, I believe you mean the navbox. I don't know much about them, but I've done some poking around. A good place to look for information like this is at the WikiProject of whichever subject you're interested in. The applicable one here is WP:WikiProject Musicians. There are some pretty good guidelines laid out at Wikipedia:WikiProject Musicians/Navbox regarding the subject. Again, let me know if that's insufficient. Sure! It's explained at Wikipedia:RS#Self-published and questionable sources as sources on themselves. Basically, you could use a band's MySpace (make sure it's their official MySpace, not a fan's) to find information such as the date the band formed, the names of their albums, the band members, etc. Generally not information that would even need citation, necessarily. If it's anything that they would be likely to exaggerate or make up, it should not be used. Hopefully the guidelines there help. I have started an RfC on inappropriate userboxes, i.e. those that don't follow the introductory paragraph at WP:UBX:

"A userbox (commonly abbreviated as UBX) is a small colored box ... designed to appear only on a Wikipedian's user page as a communicative notice about the user, in order to directly (or even indirectly) help Wikipedians collaborate more effectively on articles."

How does a userbox about a user's own preferences in regards to what topics on Wikipedia they hate and what type of sexually explicit material they like and actively view help Wikipedians collaborate with one another? Which is the question I am raising.

This introductory paragraph over at WP:UBX contradicts WP:NOTCENSORED so I'd like you to weigh in at WT:UBX, it'll only take 5 minutes of your time. I've sent this message because the topic has not had much community input

The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. Just a note to say thanks for coming by and looking at my article on Stars and Stripes 87. I am looking at some of what was done to try to develop some idea of how it is formated. Hello and welcome to this, the first ever edition of the WikiProject Stagecraft Newsletter! If you haven't been over to the WikiProject page lately then you're missing out - the whole thing has undergone a complete makeover - see below for more info!
On top of this, we have brand spanking new templates (such as this one) and a completely revamped Collaboration of the Month - again, see below for more info on all of this.
Finally, a warning - the new-look WikiProject is still having the finishing touches put on it. If you find something that doesn't work, you don't agree with or is just plain missing, please don't hesitate to let us know on the WikiProject's talk page. We'll try our very best to fix ASAP!

New Look

As mentioned above, the WikiProject has recently undergone a spring-clean and we're excited about it! If you don't mind - we'd like to take this opportunity to explain some of the features and generally show off about it a little.

  • Colour scheme All pages on the WikiProject now use two consistent shades of blue as part of the new streamlined interface (Those techies amongst us may wish to know that the precise names of the colours we use are: "lightblue" for headings and "#c0e0e0" for backgrounds).
  • Navigation Menu Every page on the WikiProject now has the official WikiProject navigation menu so you can easily flick between pages and get back to the main project page. Say goodbye to clicking the back button several times!
  • To Do list/Open Tasks If you're stuck on what to do to help us then a list of the most important tasks is now available on the main page. At the moment, the list is looking a little short so if you have found something that you think ought to be added, then feel free to edit the list and let us know. Please refrain from linking to a specific article that generally needs an overall update. Single articles like this should be nominated for a future Collaboration of The Month - see below.
Templates

All of the project's templates are now arranged in one handy page. Whilst we were going through we also noticed one was missing. We have now added the new template in the form of:

  • {{WPStagecraft Newsletter}} - the template containing the latest edition of the WikiProject Newsletter (you're looking at it now!)
Collaboration of the Month

Ok, so this isn't exactly a new feature. It's always been there but has never really been updated on a, ahem, monthly basis. The Collaboration of the Month (COTM) is now in template form to enable it to be streamlined across the Project, without having to be manually updated on each page. Don't worry if we've lost you at this point - the point is, it works! You can now nominate an article for COTM on the COTM page. The more sharp-eyed amongst you may well have noticed that the COTM at the moment is still that old fella, Stage lighting. That's because no-one has nominated a COTM for this month (being a new feature an' all...) so we've decided to leave it as it is for this month until a new one has been democratically voted for.

Queer and Protest Songs

Hello. You were listed on the page of people who can recover deleted articles for others. Can you please help me recover an article called "List of protest songs" which was deleted on 17 April 2007?

There were hundreds of songs relating to categories such as labor, civil rights, feminism, environmentalism, homophobia, peace, etc. It was a rich collection which many people had worked on, but all of the information is now lost to the internet. Since the information appears to be unsuitable for wikipedia, I'm hope to create an alternate site to host and grow it.

WSW Question

I noticed you are a member of WP:WSW, perhaps you can help me. I posted this on the WSW talk page and it has set kinda forgotten for the past few days. What I am asking is a spoken version of the GA/FA/TFA article Stephens City, Virginia. The Stephens City page hasn't been touched in days and I don't expect it to (unless a bot comes by), so the wording won't change, but I would like to have a "final touch" if you will of having it all spoken by word...and I was wondering if you could do that or know someone who could. If you need help with any of the pronunciations of any of the words, please let me know, I will be glad to help, but I don't think you find any tricky ones on there. Being bored

That looks great! Now is that a complete list? Also, there are quite a few redlinks in it -- are you planning on creating articles for them? If so, are they notable enough for their own article? If not, then they should be unlinked or perhaps removed from the list. However, if it's a complete list, I think you can leave them there but unlink them so as to keep it complete. As for the two images at the top (the flag and coat of arms), why are they included in the article? I assume you included them because the list is about Denmark ribbons, but the flag and coat of arms themselves are not particularly relevant. Perhaps a photograph of a real ribbon (not a computer-generated one) would be more effective? I'm not sure if a photo of one exists on Wikipedia, but perhaps there is one that could be found. I would suggest removing the two photos, though, because it's a bit confusing. If you feel they must be kept, then I would suggest floating them to the right of the text so that they are not disrupting the text flow. The pictures are inspired from List of orders, decorations, and medals of the Russian Federation. It is a 100% complete list of currently awarded medals. I will soon add royal commemorative medals (also a complete list).. For now I have made links to everything - Later I will sort out what needs an article and what can be described in the list. Hm, well if you want to keep them, go for it. However, I'm not sure I'm a fan of the centered photos pushing the text down... But if you like it, go for it. I looked through MOS:IMAGES and WP:LAYOUT and didn't really see anything regarding it, so it's probably not a problem. However, I could also be missing something. I would suggest stacking them to the right side of the page, though, just for aesthetic reasons. Captions should probably be added as well. If you decide to stack them, you can use:
{{multiple image | direction = vertical | width = 100 | image1 = Flag of Denmark.svg | caption1 = Flag of Denmark | image2 = National Coat of arms of Denmark.svg | caption2 = National Coat of Arms of Denmark }}

First of all, I suggest you read about bans vs. blocks -- they're different things that are confusing when used interchangeably. Second, if you read about blocks, it says that "Blocks are used to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, not to punish users." If this user looks like he or she will be disruptive again, both JamesBWatson and I have said that we'll be happy to block. For now we are making sure that we are not blocking someone who simply does not understand Wikipedia policy. The user only got a single warning for his or her actions, and has not edited since. I'm confused as to why you are so hell-bent on blocking a user who very well may have been mistaken about Wikipedia editing policy and, for all we know, has read the warning and changed his or her actions. — GorillaWarfare talk 21:24, 22 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Homo spaciens

Thank you for responding to my help request. I am trying to publish the article Homo Spaciens, but it seems that misunderstandings are arising on its content and definetly I believe the criteria for its deletion is wrong. The main reason I say this is because the term "Homo Spaciens" is a very commonly used term in the space exploration field, similar to space colonization, space settlement, and others (by the way all of these terms are published in wikipedia). First of all, are there any reliable, online sources that could describe this? It is not necessary for there to be any, but it is much easier to verify. I quickly Googled it and only see an obscure company with the same name. Second, have you reviewed WP:Wikipedia is not a dictionary? That could be very helpful. WP:What Wikipedia is might also be useful. And finally, to address your concerns, you can voice them at the AfD page for that article. Be sure to identify yourself as the creator/main contributor to the article if/when you add anything. I have added three online external references (see links below in the article) from reliable sources (articles from the Washington Post, from the European Space Agency, and from John D. About the RIM proxies

Next time some idiot is messing things up using Research In Motion's proxies, use a short-term range block. Maybe the idiot will back off during the block, and a range block is the only way to deal with ISPs and proxy pools where users frequently hop proxies. It is likely that RIM is doing load balancing. Well, the user is currently blocked, and will be for a few more hours. Because what the user has been adding is not blatant vandalism, it's considered more of a content problem. If he continues adding this, perhaps it would be worth a trip to the WP:Content noticeboard, where other users can weigh in on the actual information he's been adding.
