Question from The;orb;of;grick (18:52, 10 February 2026)

[edit]

How do i create those side boxes on most articles? I'm trying to create one. --The;orb;of;grick (talk) 18:52, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@The;orb;of;grick WP:INFOBOX? Pick one from Wikipedia:List of infoboxes, OR find an article on a similar topic that has one, click "edit source", copypaste the relevant code and use that, but change the specific info. If you use Visual Editor, pick insert > template, and type infobox whatever. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:48, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks.
The;orb;of;grick (talk) 08:07, 11 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Per the extend-confirmed-protected edit request I made regarding Revords' streaming info.

[edit]

I'm responding here because I'm not allowed to partake in the discussion on their talk page.

If you check Revords' twitter, you'll see yourself on february 14th they linked to their twitch, which is the one I pointed out.

On the twitch under the nickname I pointed out, the description also links to the same email as their twitter account.

I also can't tell how what I proposed wasn't correct per wp:rs as i wasn't insinuating they're a streamer, someone else already did in their article with sources. I just meant to suggest some cleaning up. Lafi90 (talk) 02:08, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Why aren't you allowed to discuss on the Revord talkpage? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 04:46, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Because I'm not extend-confirmed (account is more than 30 days old, but less than 500 edits on en.wiki). TarnishedPath warned me because I engaged in an article on the israel-palestine conflict where they struck every response I made except my initial request.
I think they were pretty clear in their warning on my talk page. Lafi90 (talk) 04:52, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! @TarnishedPath, correct me if I'm wrong here, but "can't even comment" applies to "the Arab–Israeli conflict", and that's fairly rare among the WP:CTOPs. Raegan Revord, while falling under a couple of other CTOP:s and currently WP:BLUELOCKed, is not under that CTOP, so you are welcome to comment on the talkpage. Unless it's about the Arab–Israeli conflict, which to the best of my knowledge, Revord is unconnected to. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 05:09, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
WP:ARBECR applies in other contentious topic areas (you can find details at Wikipedia:General sanctions#Arbitration Committee–authorised sanctions). However, it is the exception rather than the rule in contentious topic areas and it doesn't appear to apply to Raegan Revord, which is in the WP:CT/GG area.
@Lafi90, have a read of the first to pages I linked. TarnishedPathtalk 05:48, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
...and Zak Smith (I just read WP:ECRLIST). It's a distinction. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 05:55, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I should have probably known about that one given that I've had Zac email me to try and get me to edit on their behalf. But, meh I'm just not that interested in the subject. TarnishedPathtalk 06:02, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ooooh okay. Jesus, there's so much to read up on to familiarize oneself with how things are done on en.wiki, not gonna lie but it kind of feels like a lot, but maybe that's also kind of warranted given my curiousity on the israel-palestine conflict.
As far as I know Revord isn't affiliated with either side, so I must be in the clear then, right?
Oh and thanks for taking the time. Y'all probably spend too much time working around newbies who are unfamiliar with how things work. Lafi90 (talk) 06:38, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Lafi90 Yeah, there is no (current) reasonable connection between Revord and the Arab–Israeli conflict. That article has had its' problems, hence the bluelock, but not about that. So good-faith talkpage comments are fine. WP can be very complex/strict in parts, and it takes time to get a sense of what parts. WP:BOLD is also the law of the land. You're doing the right thing when you ask. When you feel like another challenge, try adding a picture somewhere ;-) Btw, when you get WP:EXTENDED, you get access to the WP:LIBRARY, if that interests you. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:01, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Haha. Yeah, I do try to put my finest forth on here, hoping it comes across honestly. Also, I just looked at WP:LIBRARY, and per it, I should have access as globally (across en.wiki and is.wiki) I have a combined total of 850 contributions (once I post this one).
And yeah, I'm slowly but surely realizing the level of strictness across wikipedia greatly varies by how serious the topic and understandably, their talk pages can get. If anything it's been quite an interesting and at times even a fun read going through the archives on contentious topics.
I've already uploaded just over 40 pictures to is.wiki, and embedded most if not all of them onto pages, and I believe at least two song samples on en.wiki. So far, so good on that front at least. Would you foresee a difficulty in uploading/and or embedding images with regards to en.wiki? Lafi90 (talk) 07:48, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Nah, if you've done that, you probably know the basics. I was thinking of the common "How do I add this pic I just found on the internet?" Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:55, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. I even did tempt fate by going deeper into things as because I'm not only Icelandic, but live in Iceland, I had to familiarize myself a little with the local copyright law here and unfortunately learned that because of how strict our copyright law is, I can't easily upload samples of songs to wikipedia articles as we don't really have an equivalent to y'all's 'fair use' that applies to music. Lafi90 (talk) 08:00, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Btw, you're right on the library, it does say "global". Follow the The Wikipedia Library link and click login, that should be it. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:26, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ah. Thank you :)
Appreciate it Lafi90 (talk) 11:08, 16 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

but "can't even comment" applies to "the Arab–Israeli conflict",

Gråbergs Gråa Sång: maybe I am just very confused here, but I can't find this on WP:CT/A-I. Am I looking in the wrong place? The summary at WP:GS only mentions the 1RR restriction. --Gurkubondinn (talk) 12:47, 19 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Gurkubondinn The first point in the lead states "only extended-confirmed editors may make edits related to the topic area", I read that as including talkpages. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 12:55, 19 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, I get it. I kept reading "articles" but you are right, "the topic area" should probably be understood to also include talkpages. The page doesn't mention edit requests at all, and barely touches on talk pages, so it does require some reading between the lines (adding AGF to taste). Thanks, that explains it for me. --Gurkubondinn (talk) 12:59, 19 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Gurkubondinn I don't particularly like that thing, but it's practical and arguably necessary. WP-rulez can be a harshur mistressur. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:30, 19 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Gurkubondinn I just stumbled on WP:ECREXPLAIN, maybe you'll find it helpful. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:14, 23 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
That looks like it is an helpful essay actually, thanks Gråberg. I also found WP:ECRLIST the other day, which lists out all of the CTOPS where ECR applies. There is no WP:1RRLIST, and I'm still not sure about when or where 1RR applies without looking up the WP:CT page and looking for the list of topic areas that mention it. But I'm slowly getting my head around how CTOPS are governed, almost being threatened with the draft in the process. --Gurkubondinn (talk) 08:45, 24 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
ECRLIST: These huge historical things... and Zak Smith. That's funny, he should put that on a t-shirt. But that's WP, what we now call CTOP once included Tree shaping.
Jimmy Wales mentioned ECR (I think) recently at User_talk:Jimbo_Wales#Something_I_see_more_often_that_I_used_to. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:55, 24 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Meant to ping. @Gurkubondinn Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:56, 24 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Gråbergs Gråa Sång (I get notifications for replies as well): I think that the Zak Smith thing is something historical, because he's not listed on the WP:CT page. There's a lot of weird subjects that people get contentious about editing -- I've seen the movie Dhurandhar: The Revenge pop up at ANI at least twice in a week.
I think that one of the "problems" (or "challenges", but that sounds more corporate) that Wikipedia deals with now is that, as a community, it was designed for the internet like it was 20 years ago. The internet today is a very different place, but Wikipedia feels more like what the internet used to feel like. There also a fair amount of resistance to adapting to this new reality, where people are not here just because they want to anymore, where text can be produced in amounts that is in no way proportional to the effort that it takes to produce that amount. And I'm not saying that we're doing it wrong, because I have no idea how it should be handled. In general, I'm not prone to thinking that I have great ideas that need to be heard by others, so I usually shut up and don't go voicing my opinions on how things should be changed (or not), but I think about it a lot. I just know that Wikipedia has survived so far, which is a result of it being governed by people that are much more clever than me, so I have trust in the project self-regulating and adopting.
Jimbo's talk page can be quite interesting, and I just noticed that he's been on the talk page for the Dhurandhar movie. I once corrected him on a talk page somewhere a few months ago, and he seems like a pretty decent person. --Gurkubondinn (talk) 09:18, 24 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, absolutely. I agree with him fairly often, not always. Dhurandar reminds me of some discussions at Diriliş: Ertuğrul, there was a political element there too. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:23, 24 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Bontra naizzaly on Help:Contents (10:20, 21 February 2026)

[edit]

Hello. Im new member here and I follow heart to join but truly can you help me to explain how to do and it was by what. So I could know how to take my position --Bontra naizzaly (talk) 10:20, 21 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Bontra naizzaly Your question is not that clear to me, but you can try WP:TUTORIAL and/or Become a Wikipedian in 30 minutes. Also, if English is not your first language, consider editing Wikipedia in a language you know better. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:26, 21 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Grand Anna (05:11, 22 February 2026)

[edit]
Note: Grand Anna's mentor Pickersgill-Cunliffe is away.

Hello, It is a pleasure to have you mentor me. I am wondering how do I add a source, and if it is a physical text (Encyclopædia) or another source that is not online? As well, it appears some articles have a non-neutral language, or sources that do not exist, what do I do? --Grand Anna (talk) 05:12, 22 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Grand Anna Welcome! General guidance on how to add sources at WP:TUTORIAL. WP:OFFLINE sources are allowed (context matters what sources are considered WP:RS), and then it's recommended that you add as much data as you can, title, page, author, isbn, publisher, year of publishing etc. Adding a relevant quote in the citation can be particularly helpful when the source is offline.
Wikipedia is a work in progress, and pretty much every article can be improved. WP:s aim on neutrality, WP:NPOV, can cause a lot of disagreement. See WP:BOLD and WP:COMMUNICATE.
On unsourced content, context matters and you have to make your best judgement. You can find a source and add it, rewriting the content so it matches the source if necessary. You can add[citation needed]. You can remove the unsourced content. WP:FIXTHEPROBLEM has some guidance. And whatever you edit, other people can edit again and vice versa. Hope this helps some! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 05:52, 22 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! That is helpful. Grand Anna (talk) 06:00, 22 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Nrey547 (16:39, 24 February 2026)

[edit]

Hi,

I have a quick question:

Usually, I use my VPN 24/7, for privacy. But I cannot edit Wikipedia using it, as it has been blocked. This even applies if I am signed into my account.
Is there a way to be able to use my VPN while editing, when signed in?

I found an article saying something about an IP block exemption, but said the quickest way to get one was through my Talk page. Is there a way I could recieve an IP block exception? I had to disconnect my VPN just to even send this message!

Thanks, nrey547 --Nrey547 (talk) 16:39, 24 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Nrey547 I don't know, you can try asking at WP:TECHPUMP. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:03, 24 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Truthchimes (16:45, 25 February 2026)

[edit]

Hi mentor, I edited a page and I referenced the top media houses of the country and a paper from academia. But one user came and removed my changes, saying: his entire subsection is problematically sourced, please see WP:NOTNEWS (as well as WP:DUE and WP:RS in general), the section is written using low quality sources including non-RS such as WP:NEWSOPED

It was about caste discrimination in a Indian state Himachal Pradesh. The user who removed the changes has a specific history of editing pages for a specific propaganda. What should I do now? I have undo his changes but I fear he will deface it back or his removal is valid? --Truthchimes (talk) 16:45, 25 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Truthchimes See WP:COMMUNICATE and WP:DR. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:35, 25 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
<butting in> It may be worth noting that the subject in question is under a Contentious Topics restriction, and Truthchimes (who has been made aware of the CTop) does not qualify to edit on the topic at present. • a frantic turtle 🐢 00:38, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that. Truthchimes, you picked a place to start where new editors aren't allowed. The idea is basically that if you have some WP-experience before jumping in a difficult area, it will save everybody time and effort. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 05:01, 26 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Northstar1928 (17:36, 3 March 2026)

Hello. I have been working on a revision that concerns the history of the discovery of Vitamin K. My revision is drafted and I would like to submit it for consideration. How am I able to do this? Thank you. Alan Almquist, Ph.D. Professor emeritus, Department of Anthropology, California State University, East bay. --Northstar1928 (talk) 17:36, 3 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

You have some options.

Question from NS2000000000 (18:32, 16 March 2026)

[edit]
Note: NS2000000000's mentor Pineapple Storage is away.

When should I link to an outside source (in the words), and when should I just put a number and cite it at the end of the page? --NS2000000000 (talk) 18:32, 16 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@NS2000000000 You pretty much never put external links in the article text, only citations. More at WP:EL. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:31, 16 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Chppl (11:43, 18 March 2026)

[edit]

Hello what is a citation and why do i need to add it in articles? --Chppl (talk) 11:43, 18 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Chppl The following is a sentence with a citation:
Adamjan was born in Yerevan, Armenia in 1989.[1]
The citation is the little hyperlinked number, which includes info about the source/reference. The references are there so Wikipedia's readers can check where the info came from, and not just crap some random person made up, you can read more on this at WP:V. Good references are incredibly important on this website, and without them, Wikipedia would be pretty worthless. On how to add citations, see WP:TUTORIAL. Hope this helps some. Re: Deletion request for File:Jessica_Gagen_na_Good_Morning_Britain.jpg

[edit]

Hi Gråbergs Gråa Sång

I’m the uploader of the non-free image you flagged for deletion. I wanted to let you know that we’ve now received a free-licensed photo of Jessica Gagen directly from Angie Beasley (Director of Miss England Limited) – it’s been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons as [[File:Jessica_Gagen_Miss_England_Airport.jpg]].

I’ve also posted a request for deletion of the old non-free image on its talk page, as it’s no longer needed now that a free alternative is available. Thank you for bringing the replaceability concern to my attention – it helped me prioritize securing a proper free-licensed photo for the article!

If you have any feedback or need me to add anything else, please let me know.

Best regards,

Ssuzuki647 Ssuzuki647 (talk) 14:47, 22 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Ssuzuki647 Thanks for letting me know! The Commons-pic should be fine, provided the VRT-thing is approved. The non-free pic will be deleted sooner or later, so you can forget about that one.
If WP:Conflict of interest applies to your editing or some of it, please follow the guidance there. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:47, 22 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from User012030213 (18:32, 27 March 2026)

[edit]

Hello, I’d like guidance on a dispute regarding the *Dečani operation* article. I attempted to improve the page by removing weak/unreliable sources (e.g. specijalne-jedinice.com), improving neutrality, and correcting inconsistencies. However, my edits were reverted as “vandalism” without discussion. the article still has issues with WP:NPOV and WP:RS, as it relies partly on weak or one-sided sources and includes tagged “unreliable” material.

My goal is not to push a viewpoint, but to:

  • Ensure balanced sourcing
  • Remove unreliable references
  • Use neutral wording
  • Apply the correct name of cities Deçan, Peja and Gjakova

can you help me with that or guide me through it? Thank you. --User012030213 (talk) 18:32, 27 March 2026 (UTC)[reply]

"Grokipedia turned up an extremely flattering, extensive article almost five times as long as my Wikipedia entry, at nearly 5,000 words. And while I was sorely tempted to conclude it had simply recognised my genius and importance, the reasons for the variance are worth exploring. [edit]

Hey. So, as you know, the file was deleted again, in this instance due to WP:G4. As the policy states, “This applies to sufficiently identical copies, having any title, of a page deleted via its most recent deletion discussion.” Does this indicate that the deletion is solely due to the file's name being identical to the one deleted in the previous discussion? In other words, if the same file were uploaded under a different name, would the policy still apply? QuestFour (talk) 21:18, 3 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Emily Higgs (05:12, 7 April 2026)

[edit]

yo, so. Basically it keeps unaccepting my edits even though they are correct It seems to accept them then I go on the wikapida page and my edits are no longer there the information is correct and not plagerisium its ofen emailing me say, " Hello, Emily Higgs, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia, such as Jarren duran 16 (talk · contribs). Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who misuse multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections before editing further. Thank you." If you have time your help is much appericated, thanks --Emily Higgs (talk) 05:12, 7 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@Emily Higgs Welcome to Wikipedia! Afaict by Jarren Duran: Revision history, you've made a couple of edits you think are improvements, and that's fine (WP:BOLD). Other people reverted you because they disagreed that they were improvements, and that's fine too. The next step on WP is to WP:COMMUNICATE on the page Talk:Jarren Duran.
I looked at the edit you made here [2] and I agree with the editor who reverted you that it's not good enough. See WP:LEAD, WP:PUFFERY and WP:BLP. I recommend WP:TUTORIAL for how to add references correctly. If you want to make edits that can "stick", you need to learn how to add references correctly. This is essential, and I can't stress that enough. Really. And that goes even more when you write about living people.
On his height, this source [3] seems to disagree with you, so on WP, the question is "have you got a better source?"
Hope this helps some. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 05:36, 7 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from GTaK (10:52, 12 April 2026)

Hello, what is a bare URL and missing title error? I created a page and this error message was sent to me by a bot. --GTaK (talk) 10:52, 12 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@GTaK A "bare url" means "web adress only", like https://www.sujanchapagainofficial.com/band.
If you look at the edit you made here:[4], you can see that in the second paragraph/cite you added, you don't have a |title= parameter, that's what the bot is complaining about. The cite before that has one, so that one looks ok. Hope this helps some. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:20, 12 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Question from GTaK (12:02, 16 April 2026)

[edit]
Note: GTaK's mentor Liance is away.

Hello, I had recently edited some topics about caste,clans... and i received a message on my talk page that said, editing on caste, clans before 500 edits is restricted, after that i apologized and removed my editings from those pages. Will the removing also counted as editing on those topics or can it lead to restrictions on me? --GTaK (talk) 12:02, 16 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]

@GTaK I guess they could, technically, but hopefully they'll be seen in the spirit of which they were meant. See WP:REDACT for future use. WP has a few of these "minefield" topics, you can see a list at WP:ECRLIST. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:20, 16 April 2026 (UTC)[reply]
