name of 1999 massacres[edit]

What is the name of the 1999 massacres in Kalimantan against Madurese? It happened before the Sampit conflict, and involved both Malays and Dayaks attacking Madurese. A new article needs to be created about it. Or a general article called Anti-Madurese violence documenting all incidents of attacks on Madurese since the 1960s to today. Talk:Sampit_conflict. Hindu Buddhist[edit]

There should be an article linked for a category like that - as there are many issues as to what the dominant factors in any of those kingdoms were, and what evidence exists - some were more one way or the other as well. satusuro 12:43, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

Hey I didnt want an essay of a reply - I was just suggesting we needed a link to an article for the category... (I was just this morning checking in a university library about the 'zaman pangeran diponegoro' - so please mohon maaf - tak mahu separti buku besar in reply) - just an idea of which article to link to....

Gambar batik[edit]

Halo Mas Gun,

Saya tanya dulu biar gambarnya nanti gak gonta-ganti. Terima kasih Alteaven (talk) 13:13, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

No, we can't have an edit-war about the lead image and conspire to put it back how it was after the GA is done, that's not acceptable and would lead to a GAR to revoke the GA and possibly to additional measures, please don't even think about it. The current image is unattractive; the museum image not very informative. The featured image was better but in fact at only medium resolution. Perhaps we can find a better image; a composite could be a solution (3 or 4 batiks of different pattern), or an image of batik being made, provided some sort of pattern can be seen. I am scanning some photographs now; we may find something acceptable among them. Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:41, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

Indonesia–Yemen relations[edit]

Hi Gunkarta, I need your help in the bilateral relations article "Indonesia–Yemen relations".

Asian cuisine / List of Asian cuisines[edit]

I note that you are a significant editor of Asian cuisine. Last year List of Asian cuisines was created, which duplicates the content and purpose of the Asian cuisine list article. Do you see any value in keeping both? The Asian cuisine list article is in a poor state with little information other than unsourced opinion, and is cluttered with too many images, and red links, while List of Asian cuisines is sourced, informative, and better organised. My feeling is that there is little content to be saved in Asian cuisine, and that it might be more useful to redirect the title to List of Asian cuisines (or vice versa). Essentially, keep one article, and work on that. What do you think? SilkTork ✔Tea time 18:44, 15 July 2014 (UTC)

Ki Hajar Dewantara[edit]

I worked on the article on Ki Hajar Dewantara in October 2013, but I've noticed that some material seems to have been added since then that was written by a non-native speaker of English. list of monarchs of java[edit]

is quite a long list of rulers - some quite imaginary ( no WP:V, WP:RS or anything to support their existence ) - thanks for providing a link - any extra links where articles havent been linked is appreciated. if it was a good list - it should have small/brief summaries of the specific kingdom/monarchy/whatever - rather than links in the headings (which is not a WP:MOS accepted practice) - it would be much easier to understand. satusuro 08:42, 15 December 2014 (UTC)

Sultanate of Mataram[edit]

The article is making so many claims for authority - with not a WP:CITE or WP:RS tied in anywhere. It might need to be very drastically edited. Indonesian history articles with inadequate referencing must comply with WP:V - not playful Indonesian etymology - that is we think this, therefore it is true - as an online encyclopedia, Sultanat of Mataram article has gone far too long unchecked. Selamat tahun baru satusuro 04:38, 1 January 2015 (UTC)

mohon maaf kalau saya terlalu keras dengan sejarah istimewa. My apology if I seem somewhat rough with lack of wp:cite. Also - it seems the old website joglosemar whatever, is no longer in existence, and many small articles used to rely on it - are you aware of alternative online history sources? satusuro 05:11, 1 January 2015 (UTC)
Oh dear, kesulitan besar....
  • "Mataram, Historical kingdom, Indonesia". Encyclopaedia Britannica. Retrieved 1 January 2015.

We normally do not used EB as a source... very sorry, but, it is not a usual reference. Not too sure what to say. satusuro 01:53, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

  • Very sorry - the images of Senopati, Sultan Agung - are not what professional historians call valid images of the individuals - it is a long and complicated discussion if you want it - just because Indonesian persons think/believe that the images represent what the person look like, they are not considered valid. If you want the conversation, fine, if not, please do not re-insert. satusuro 02:24, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
  • OK there is a fine line/ tempat kesulitan ? / where adding that image is a serious problem, this is an english online encyclopedia project, and readers are going to believe that the image you have uploaded is valid.

For me to not revert your edits - you need to speak. Due to the very good safeguards we have on wp en - we have a range of guidelines regarding WP:AGF - however silence does not help. No response does not help. satusuro 02:41, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

OK - give me a few days - there are issues with a lot of things, but I do not have a whole day or long stretch of time to systematically go through the problem of the article - or the image of sultan agung - it might even take me a week or two to have the time to properly compose a rather complex argument/explanation.

Mohom maaf kalau saya offend over any sensitivity regarding javanese history - I am not an expert/ahli, but... satusuro 13:28, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Bali Kingdom[edit]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Bali Kingdom, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://en.inforapid.org/index.php?search=Sri%20Kesari%20Warmadewa.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) CorenSearchBot (talk) 15:00, 6 January 2015 (UTC)

I've fixed it. It will be expanded and elaborated soon. Gunkarta  talk  10:42, 7 January 2015 (UTC)
  • Hello Gunkarta, and thanks for this article. It looks like you are using paragraphs from various Wikipedia articles as part of this article. This is perfectly fine, since Wikipedia content is free to re-use, but our license also requires attribution, that is: saying where that text came from so the edit history can be preserved. (Even if, as I've found, you were one of the original contributors of that text in the other articles, after a while other people edit it here and there, and it is that history we need to track.) So if I may ask, in future if you re-use content from other articles, if you can make the edit summary for that edit say something like "Content used from (article name), see that page for attribution" that's all that is needed to keep the license good.
  • I've gone through and identified some of those additions here and I can put tags on the talk page that do the same thing after-the-fact, so again no problem there. Thanks again for your work, and feel free to ask if you have any questions, CrowCaw 23:34, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Zheng He[edit]

You reverted the article to a version that said he was born in 1971. And the article clearly says, with reliable sources, "Zheng He was born into a Muslim family.[6][9][10] However, his religious beliefs became all-embracing and eclectic in his adulthood". So we can't call him a Muslim. Dougweller (talk) 10:45, 12 January 2015 (UTC)

Empu and pandai besi[edit]

Sorry about my edit on the kris article. I actually felt that pandai besi was more inclusive since the word empu is less common outside Indonesia. I'll retain the word empu but can I make a few minor corrections? For one, there are some unnecesary bolds in the beginning of the article. Also, for the sake of style, I replaced some mentions of the word empu with the English "smith" or "blacksmith". This is done simply for the sake of avoiding repetitiveness. Is this alright with you? Reply about Joko Widodo page[edit]

Thanks for your message today about recent changes to the Joko Widodo page. I agree that we should all aim for a Neutral Point of View (NPOV) on Wikipedia, especially when dealing with controversial issues such as Pak Jokowi's policies and approach. Many people feel strongly about many things. We should try to avoid these strong views affecting the Wiki pages. I agree with the approach you have been taking recently.

More broadly, there is a real risk that the Joko Widodo page will turn into a mess. There is so much controversy about so many things. The best thing that we can do -- in my view -- is try to stick to the main facts of his approach as President, and record the truly main events during his period as President. Otherwise the quality of the page will be lost. That would be a real pity because it is important to have a high-quality, factual page on the President of RI. Pmccawley (talk) 04:10, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

I wish you would not continue to post political spin which merely pushes "myths" about Jokowi. For example the assertion that he is the first president not from a rich background is just wrong - Gus Dur led a modest existence and had to work for a living. Habibie was a trained aeronautical engineer and returned to that work after being president. Further examples you continue to put that Jokowi takes a hard line against drugs - but there is no evidence of that given his political concessions for clemency and his abject failure to target Indonesian drug cartels. You have been trying to post the myth that Jokowi is the only President to take action on fuel subsidies - but all former presidents have gradually reduced these in line with civil tolerance. You cite Jokowi believes this and Jokowi believes that - but these things are mere conjecture - for example Jokowi believes fuel subsidy cuts will fund infrastructure - is just political paff - especially when there is no palpable infrastructure development occurring - in fact its slowed under Jokowi following a very big infrastructure (particularly airports) under former president SBY. The proper approach for an encyclopedia is to reference actual occurences - not try to parrot Jokowi's narrative which is generally aimed at uneducated Indonesian peasants.Suastiastu (talk) 13:48, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

Martial arts template[edit]

It seemed silly to have both Indochina and Indonesian in the same line - but I must admit that I mis-read Indochina as Indonesian and thought it had been posted twice. The general rule is that articles must be C-class and up which Indochina is not but I have also just promoted the Indonesian to C. It is not necessary to have all country specific martial arts listed in the template. If we keep Indonesia (which I am not against) we need to delete Indochina.Peter Rehse (talk) 10:52, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

November 2015[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Indonesia–Malaysia relations. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. Hi Gunkarta, can you add references to Aviation in Indonesia? Each para should have at least one reference, I am currently busy, also I am not finding much sources. You may find it in Indonesian language and other Indonesian newspapers that you know. If you add references to each para then it will feature on main page. So please be quick. You create nice articles but you don't add much references to your work. You should add reference to each claim in article at the end of sentence. I think you should be quick on Aviation in Indonesia, otherwise this DYK nomination will get closed. I can prepare article Aviation in Indonesia for DYK within half hour, I just have to remove all unsourced matter and still sourced matter more than 1500 characters remains. But instead of removing things that you wrote it will be better to add sources for them. --Human3015TALK  07:31, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Suman (food)[edit]

Hello, seem you have many contributions to Indonesian related articles especially Indonesian foods. I think you are the right person for me to get an opinions. In the Philippines, we have dishes named Suman (food). So I want to ask about our Suman (food) is adopted or variation from Indonesians Lontong? I hope you can contribute in Suman (food) article. Greetings from Philippines.

Magbantay (talk) 17:18, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi, mabuhayǃ thank you for your interest on our common cuisine. I think Suman is more similar or closely related to Indonesian lepet than lontong. I don't know weather the suman was adopted from lontong or not. But I think they are a common Austronesian rice cake, and probably suman is related to lepet. Gunkarta  talk  08:09, 12 January 2016 (UTC)

Again,food fight[edit]

Hi,actually i don't want food fighting anymore. Tell me,what can make you satisfy? Re-structure Singaporean cuisine by remove some Indonesian food? If i make it for you, please don't involve anymore in editing Singaporean food unless if it related to Indonesian food. I think it's fair enough. Let bygones be bygones. Now i try to construct all the food in Singapore cuisine. Many more foods that's created in Singapore. But, i try to avoid put in conflict dishes into Singaporean Cuisine section. Anyway, thank you because remind me for that's thing. Just what said,i try to minimize conflict dishes among neighboring countries,Indonesia and Malaysia.Lee788 (talk) 20:17, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

Again, this is not a food fight. Just want to make things clear about what makes a dish Singaporean cuisine. And you do not have a right to barred and exclude me from participating in editing Singaporean food article. Let's discuss this matter in talkpage of related issues. Gunkarta  talk  05:26, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Bandung[edit]

There are many Chinese people in Bandung. Just as Sundanese, Chinese is considered a native language by several Chinese-speaking people in Bandung. Therefore, I believe that Chinese transcription in the article is also needed. Moreover, if Dutch is not a native language, why are you not deleting the Dutch translation? Thank you. Request reason:

Sorry.., I was not meant to breach any copyright violations, it was not my intention. It was orginally meant as a direct quotations taken from news about recent South China Sea disputes. Since some of them are some political position of some government officials, I thought the quotation should be verbatim, exactly the same as it was written on news to avoid misconception. I guess I'm overdoing it by including too much materials from the news. I'm really sorry if I had breach the copyright policy. Now that I've learn my mistake, I will be careful on searching and including sources, and on how to write it down, and how to present it in the future. Please consider to kindly unblock me. Gunkarta  talk  21:12, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

Decline reason:

After repeated warnings which you always answered with "Sorry, now I understand", just to continue copy-pasting, this is not enough. I rather don't think you want to claim National Geographic content about a culture flowering millennia ago was "political position of some government officials". Huon (talk) 00:36, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired.

Very sorry that you are blocked[edit]

I know you mainly from food-related articles. You will be sorely missed. In my opinion, an indefinite block is too harsh for someone who has done so much good for Wikipedia but apparently, admins take copyright infringements very seriously, even when you have done so many other things that can only be viewed as commendable. - Takeaway (talk) 01:17, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your support and your kind words Takeaway.... Currently I feel really bad. if this is really the end of my contribution to wikipedia, after fruitful and exciting 9 years. Unblock appeal[edit]

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Gunkarta (block logactive blocksglobal blocksautoblockscontribsdeleted contribsabuse filter logcreation logchange block settingsunblock)

Request reason:

Please reconsider my unblock request by examining my other editing records; such as my other contributions in other subjects; like food, history and Indonesia-related articles for all this years. As testified by other fellow editors, I have done some good and productive things. I had, might and could be a valuable member of wikipedia community if given another chance. Compared to total of my other contributions, my latest copyrights breaking edits was an unintentional accident. Honestly, there is no ill-intention in my behalf to do damage or disruptive editing by breaking copyrights rule. It was started as an innocent effort to add new materials, through direct quotation, mostly from news, regarding a currently hot issue; like South China Sea dispute. But then, I got carried away by copying too many copyrighted news materials. Now that I've learned the copyrights rule the hard way, I've learned my lesson. I certainly will not do it again and will be very careful to treat copyrights issues very seriously. I really wish to continue to make some productive contributions for wikipedia. I feel really bad, and it is a shame if after nine years and nine months of editing and contributing, this could be the end of my journey on contributing to wikipedia. I think indefinite block is too harsh and unnecesary. Please give me another chance and reconsider my appeal. Thank you... Gunkarta talk 04:07, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Accept reason:

I am unblocking your account, because you say you understand our copyright policy and state you intend to follow it in the future. Further copyright violations will result in you being re-blocked. — Diannaa (talk) 14:08, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Unblocking administrator: Please check for active autoblocks on this user after accepting the unblock request.
I'm inclined to think that an indefinite block for a user who's never been blocked before and has been on the wiki as long as they have might be excessive. I don't want to unilaterally overturn the original admin's decision, so I'll ping @Diannaa:. Copyright violations are immensely serious and a preventive step is necessary, though I'm not yet convinced this editor is so beyond saving they must be indef blocked. Would you be opposed if I adjusted the block to one month, to give time for the editor to learn about the policy. At that point, if there's further abuse, I would support an indef block. Thoughts? -- Lord Roem ~ (talk) 07:03, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
The reason we started using indef block is because if we do it that way the editor cannot resume editing until they provide us with a clear statement that demonstrates that they have read and understand our copyright policy and intend to follow it in the future. There's been many people who simply resume what they were doing, to the detriment of the encyclopedia. Copyright is a very serious issue on this wiki and this is one of the ways we are trying to control it. Sorry if that seems harsh. — Diannaa (talk) 14:08, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
@Diannaa:, thanks for the response. I absolutely understand where you're coming from and I completely agree about the seriousness of the issue. This is/was just one of those times where I was on the fence. I would strongly advise the editor to brush up on the policy; no further excuses for any blatant copyvios. If you have any doubts, err on the safe side. You can always contact Diannaa, me, or another admin if you have questions on this subject. Wishing everyone the best, Lord Roem ~ (talk) 14:12, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Thank you Dianaa for your trust in me by unblocking my account; I will be really careful on copyrights issue from now on. Comments re this user[edit]

As a regular and consistent contributor to the Indonesian project, Gunkarta is probably one of the last remaining regular native speaking Indonesia editors that the project has with a broad interest and capacity to ed it and work in the full range of Indonesian topics.

I do not think from my 10 years of editing in Indonesian subject areas has there been another editor like Gunkarta in being able to sustain a positive attitude to editing through thick and thin. We have had many short term editors who have been and gone, but Gunkarta has remained regardless of the weather, so to speak.

[1] - the Indonesian project on wp en has had a very difficult time in sustaining in-country native speakers who last more than a foray into bad english and lists of things, this editor has, by all standards raised the standards of articles and material more than most non-Indonesian editors who have ventured into working on the project. To take any one aspect of an editors behaviour as the simple device to indef block, I believe that the risk taken in simply focusing on one aspect is of considerable damage to the Indonesian project on the basis of a limted view.

Maybe projects per se are passe (the level of maintenance on some is pitiful) in some editors minds, but for others, long standing commitment and endurance to projects imho should account for more than a lockout as this particular action entails.

If it were up to the project to determine an editors status, I do not think that someone with such dedication and long term benefit to the project and wikipedia would achieve the current status. I can think of some particularly destructive and very damaging editors who have wreaked havoc unrepentantly upon wikipedia who have been given less stringent sanctions. JarrahTree 07:26, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

To the editors/admins who have reviewed the case above, a gracias, terimah kasih, shukran - or simply thank you on behalf of the Indonesian project, and it is hoped that the issue is something in the past. JarrahTree 14:30, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
