Wayne Rooney as a Midfielder[edit]

Thank you for (re-)adding Midfielder as one one Wayne Rooney's positions in your 15:57, 21 May 2016‎ edit.

I am of the view that this is accurate; my previous identical edit to yours over a year ago was inappropriately undone by PeeJay2K3 :

I hope that common knowledge, coupled with it proven by innumerable source references, with prevail this time despite the un-editing activities by PeeJay2K3.

Be vigilant! Cheers!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. List of Al-Talaba SC season[edit]

I really appreciate the help with the List of Al-Talaba SC seasons article. As an Iraqi football writer, I'd like to know the sources of your contributions on Al-Talaba SC's statistics in some seasons that I had a hard time finding them. My sources mainly consisted of the Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation and Kooora. I would really appreciate your help. Hashima20 (talk) 13:02, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. I will consider the website as one of the main sources in future articles. Hashima20 (talk) 15:40, 23 March 2016 (UTC)

Iraqi team names at Iraqi Premier League[edit]

Ideally team names would be the same throughout the article, although what is more important is what the reliable sources are saying. I added a cite to Soccerway and thus the team names (within that section) should reflect that source. If there are other reliable English-language sources (e.g. Goalzz, RSSSF) that have names spelt differently then it is possible to also add those as a reference for that section(s), and to take a view as to which version of the team names should be used. However, as a general point, names should be as the source we are linking to (obviously this differs where we are dealing with Arabic-only sources). Regards. Eldumpo (talk) 20:18, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

List of Iraqi football champions[edit]

It was an official national league recognized by the AFC which means including it in the list would be acceptable. The only thing that would change is the (Titles won by regions) section that should be split into the League of the Institutes of Baghdad and the other real national leagues following 1973.Hashima20 (talk) 17:01, 16 July 2016 (UTC)

Iraqi clubs[edit]

Hey bro,

I think we should focus on the Iraqi League clubs, to keep the pages up to date, especially the smaller teams like Karbala FC or Najaf FC.

We should try to keep it up to date and add more information.

@Steel Dogg: I agree with you. How about this: I will try to add information about the history of the clubs, and you can add information about current squads and recent seasons or something like that? That way we would get it done quicker. Hashim-afc (talk) 17:52, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

Good idea. I will do my best.

I will also try to focus on gathering information about our previous squads in the youth tournaments (U19 and U16 Asian Cups).

New player pages[edit]

Hi bro,

As you know many players made their debuts in the Uzbekistan match (Bayar Abubakir, Abbas Qasim etc etc). That means they will have a Wiki page, but I purely focus on the international stats, don't know much about their club careers.

If you could check and correct things, that would be perfect.

Marwan Kareem[edit]

Your speedy tag on marwan kareem claimed "this article has already been deleted twice!" Can you please tell under what title. It is possible that Abbas2016 (talk · contribs) should be blocked for sockpuppetry. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 22:29, 25 August 2016 (UTC)

@RHaworth: It was first deleted under the title Marwan Kareem Mohammed and then deleted again under the title Kareem Marwan. All three articles were created by different users but they are clearly sockpuppets. All three users speak with the same poor English and all three only seem interested in creating this article about a fake player. Hashim-afc (talk) 06:43, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

@Fenix down: Hi Fenix down. Unfortunately the IP came back and removed the Iraq rivalry again from the Iran page. I've restored it now but just letting you know. He will probably come back and remove it again, he seems to be anti-Iraq for some reason. Hashim-afc (talk) 11:42, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

2017–18 Iraqi Premier League[edit]

I wasn’t changing the club names without reason, they were amended as per the source I added, which is the basis of how Wikipedia works. I see you have replaced with another source but there was no need as Soccerway is regarded as a reliable source. However, I will review the source you added, and amend anything not reflecting the citation. Eldumpo (talk) 18:55, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

@Eldumpo: The Soccerway source was using shortened names e.g. 'Quwa' for Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya. If you click on the shortened names it takes to a page which has the full name. So I don't get why you kept adding the shortened names in. You were also making it confusing because you were writing Maysan instead of Naft Maysan which makes it seem you are talking about Maysan FC, and you were changing Al-Sinaat Al-Kahrabaiya to Alsinaat Alkahrabaiya which isn't even correct grammar. There's nothing wrong with the top scorers list in its present form. Hashim-afc (talk) 19:03, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
You say 'shortened names' but they decided it was appropriate to list them that way for that table. They also list 'Tottenham' at the Premier League scorers page, and then 'Tottenham Hotspur FC' when you click, it doesn’t mean the latter should be listed. Ultimately we should follow sources but I note you say it has caused confusion re Maysan (I take your word), but the table should at least follow the Goalzz source. All information must be cited. Eldumpo (talk) 19:53, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
@Eldumpo: I definitely agree that the top scorers list should be cited and I thank you for adding a source. But spelling of team names does not have to be exactly as that source says. Not sure if you know but Iraqi team's names are spelled differently across multiple sources because their names are Arabic names not English names, so if we use your logic we could have 'Air Force Club'[1], 'Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya'[2], 'Al-Qowa Al-Jawia'[3], 'Al-Quwa Al-Jaweya'[4], 'Quwa'[5] etc etc all on the same page if we use sources from multiple websites which would be nonsensical. Each team in the top scorers list is wiki-linked to the page for that team so it's clear which team it is. Keeping the spelling of the name consistent with the title of that team's page and with the rest of the 2017/18 season page is important to avoid confusion. Hashim-afc (talk) 20:17, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
Ideally we would simply report what the source shows, but I accept that could cause confusion if the team is referenced differently on the same page, and I understand that translation of Arabic can lead to a number of different versions. However, we shouldn’t just stick with what’s on the page already, as that may not be appropriate. I took a team at random and it appears RSSSF, Goalzz and Soccerway all call them Al Hudod and not Al Hedood as our article (and noting that the clubs' article is uncited),so perhaps we should review whether the clubs at the page are named 'correctly', based on a balance of the reliable English sources available. Thanks. Eldumpo (talk) 21:59, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
I’ve added 3 cites to the Teams column of the Current teams section, and have tweaked some of the teams in that column to reflect the balance of the sources. Let me know any comments, and then the agreed team names can be used elsewhere in the article. Eldumpo (talk) 21:49, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
@Eldumpo: Hi Eldumpo, thanks. The problem I have with some of the names is, as an Arabic speaker, I know some of the names aren't accurate even though some sources use them. For example, Al-Hudood is a much more accurate name than Al-Hudod, because the Arabic letter 'و' features in the name which is the equivalent of 'oo' in English. It's got a completely different pronunciation than say Al-Shorta, for example as there is no 'و' in Al-Shorta's name. Your change from Al-Kahraba to Al-Kahrabaa is one I agree with, as the Arabic letters 'اء' are used rather than just 'ا'. However, the same letters are used in the name of Karbala, so in that case it should be Karbalaa and not Karbala. And with the change from Al-Zawraa to Al-Zawra'a, this means that Al-Kahrabaa should be Al-Kahraba'a, Karbalaa should be Karbala'a, Al-Minaa should be Al-Mina'a and Al-Sinaat Al-Kahrabaiya should be Al-Sina'at Al-Kahraba'iya due to using the same lettering. Do you see what I mean? For that reason I wanted to use Soccer Iraq as the main source for the team names, they're the biggest Iraqi football news source in the English language and so they're translations are much more accurate and reliable ones than say Soccerway or RSSSF that are general stats websites not Iraqi specific and wouldn't know Arabic. This is the link I want to use to source the names: http://socceriraq.net/league-table/. Let me know your thoughts. Hashim-afc (talk) 23:49, 12 April 2018 (UTC)
Note: transfermarkt is not reliable in wikipedia, cheers. Hhhhhkohhhhh (talk) 09:03, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for your response. I understand the points you’re making but the sources need to be the basis of what we write in Wikipedia, not necessarily strictly officially what they 'should be', and however you decide that can be measured. I hadn’t heard of Soccer Iraq before, and whilst the article appears to confirm notability (although the first cite I tried did not mention them), I would not be happy in that source being the sole one we base the team names on, but it could be added as a 4th ref. Based on what you say I’d be ok if we said it was 'Al-Hudood' and ‘Al-Zawraa’. Regards. Eldumpo (talk) 16:30, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
@Eldumpo: Okay, that's fair. Considering it as the fourth source, I would also make a few more changes. Two sources use Al Diwaniya and Alsinaat Alkahrabaiya, while two sources use Al-Diwaniya and Al-Sinaat Al-Kahrabaiya. The second alternative would thus be better to keep it consistent with all the other 'Al-' teams. Also, only one of the four sources uses 'Samawa' without the 'Al-', so the Al- should be added back in. Majority of the sources also use 'Naft Al-Junoob' rather than 'Naft Al-Janoob'. And finally two sources use Karbala while two use Karbalaa, so to keep consistent with other names like Al-Kahrabaa, Al-Minaa and Al-Zawraa, it would be better to use 'aa' for them as well. These changes wouldn't go against the sources and would be consistent with each other in terms of language. Thoughts? Hashim-afc (talk) 17:00, 13 April 2018 (UTC)
Hi, I’ve now added Soccer Iraq as a 4th source and made most of the above amendments to reflect the new balance. However, I’ve kept it as 'Karbala' as this ties well with the location source at RSSSF. If you’re happy it probably makes sense to copy this thread to the article's talk page. Eldumpo (talk) 10:43, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
@Eldumpo: Hi Eldumpo, thanks for making the changes. I'll copy it over to the article's talk page soon. Just for clarification, what do mean by "the location source at RSSSF"? I see that RSSSF and Soccerway uses Karbala, whereas Goalzz and Soccer Iraq uses Karbalaa, and with teams like Al-Zawraa, Al-Kahrabaa, Al-Minaa etc I thought it would make more sense to use Karbalaa seeing as it's 2 vs 2 on the sources. Thanks, Hashim-afc (talk) 14:53, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
I meant the club is named Karbala at the RSSSF source, and that reference is being used for our Location column so it would look strange for there to be different spellings of the club/location.Eldumpo (talk) 17:10, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
That is a good point you make about the location being the same spelling as the team name. I still think it would be preferable to use Karbalaa for both team name and location though just because of the consistency of other team's spellings and the fact that the sources are split. Hashim-afc (talk) 19:24, 17 April 2018 (UTC)
Ok put it as Karbalaa if you want but can you return the original RSSSF location source that deals with this season. Eldumpo (talk) 21:15, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
Of course.Hashim-afc (talk) 16:20, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

UAFA Club Championship[edit]

Whilst the competition name may have changed, you don't move a page by manually creating a redirect, you need to move it properly using the drop down menu or by a proper WP:RM. Doing things the way you did splits the page history. Fenix down (talk) 15:05, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

@Fenix down: Oh sorry, I did not realise that this was an issue. I tried to move it normally but it didn't let me for some reason so I just created a redirect. But I can make a RM a bit later when I have more time. Hashim-afc (talk) 15:07, 24 April 2018 (UTC)
Probably for the best. I have no problem with the move, but it looks like it will need a bit of a history merge too if possible. Fenix down (talk) 15:49, 24 April 2018 (UTC)

Iraq National Football Team[edit]

I reverted the section on 'other competitions' as they are all friendlies as per their sources and linked descriptions. Although we usually dont list friendlies, especially for national sides, since you have spent some time on the page and provided sources etc, if you want we could reinstate the section but with a listing of 'friendly' as per their official status. Davefelmer (talk) 18:47, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

@Davefelmer: Hi Dave, thanks for notifying me. I think it probably looks better without friendlies, but I reinstated them because I looked at some other national teams and they all list friendly wins so would seem strange not to on this page. But I listed them as friendlies rather than competitions as you suggested. Hashim-afc (talk) 19:11, 12 June 2018 (UTC)
