Your question[edit]

Hi Husky -- thanks for the message. The reason I cleared the list is because the vandalism reports were a day old or more. When someone is vandalizing a page it's easy to want them to face some sort of swift retribution (I've been there myself). But the point of blocking users is not to punish them really, it's just to get them to stop their bad behavior. So once the vandalism has stopped, the issue is basically solved and a block isn't necessary. We have to be careful about blocking IP's also, because potentially anybody could be using them, not only the vandal. Generally IP's are only blocked for short periods of time. The vandalism listings that I erased were old -- meaning, they were no longer actively vandalizing. Generally in that case, no action is taken because the immediate problem (a page or pages being vandalized) is, for the moment, through. But, of course if you see a vandal starting back up again, you are encouraged to report the problem -- providing you have sufficiently warned them on their talk page during that vandalism cycle. Of course, it must be repeated vandalism, not just once or twice, which a user can take care of themselves. I hope this makes sense. Best · Katefan0(scribble) 14:14, 1 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi[edit]

Hi Husky. Just to let you know, This is actually Xiphon speaking, but I am logged out because for some reason I can't access my talk page when I'm logged in at the moment. I see you're sending anti-vandalism messages to the IP that I am using, Ipod's or something, please note that I am not vandalising anything, I assume it's someone else on this IP. I'm trying to ask an admin about my talk page issue, so please don't block this IP for the time being. If you could just aknowledge here, not my talk page for obvious reasons, I'd be grateful. Thanks--198.54.202.18 12:51, 13 October 2005 (UTC)

Hello Xiphon. I suppose you are referring to my comment on User talk:70.24.64.116 . You're completely right, i meant to place the comment on User talk:67.122.197.121 but for some reason it ended up on your IP page User talk:70.24.64.116. Sorry about that, it must have been late :). Oh, and by the way, i can't block you because i'm not an administrator.

Hi, somebody unknown has requested deletion of two photos that you uploaded. Please see Commons:Deletion requests. Thuresson 05:29, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, i know. It's somebody from the Dutch wikipedia. I already had contact with him. The problem is that the disclaimer of regering.nl (the site the pictures came from) is not clear about the status of pictures from it's website.

Response To PHP[edit]

I am not advertising or spamming or anything else you think is going on. I posted valid links to a valid site that has to do with the topic at hand. This is what the "External Links" section is for. It is to give users other sites that deal with the same topic but expand on that topic or maybe give tutorials or articles on that topic. If you harrass me again you will be the one submitted for a user ban. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.89.208.242 (talk • contribs) .

Funniest comment I've read all day. How come spammers always refer to spamming as something other people do? --GraemeL (talk) 18:58, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Mmm.. well thanks anyway for adding a message at the user's page. Huskyoog.jpg Husky(talk page) 01:16, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Thank you. Speaking for myself, I generally consider contributions less than a paragraph in size, or adding an image or a few words here and there, minor. But that's just me ;-) — Curt Woyte 11:59, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Non-free use disputed for Image:Anne littlebritain.jpg[edit]

Image Fair use rationale problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Anne littlebritain.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —♦♦ SʘʘTHING(Я) 13:31, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Image change to alife[edit]

Hi I was just wondering why you replaced the Creatures image for one about Braitenberg vehicles instead of just adding a second image? I don't see how Braitenberg holds more relevance to the subject (if any at all)? I've started up a section on the talk page if you want to join in. If you feel like chatting live about alife you might want to join a few other people on irc://irc.freenode.net#alife. Thanks. MattOates (Ulti) 08:38, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Jo_frost.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Jo_frost.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 22:30, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Vali myers.jpg[edit]

Speedy deletion of Image:Volkskrant 01102006.jpg[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

A tag has been placed on Image:Volkskrant 01102006.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image which is not under a free license or in the public domain and it has not been used in any article for more than seven days.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[Talk:Image:Volkskrant 01102006.jpg|the article's talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Your Wikibooks Logo Proposal[edit]

I want to ask whether your great Wikibooks logo proposal could be used as the official logo for the Collection Extension. This extension allows users to create their own books (PDF, ODF or printed) from wiki-content. Your logo would really fit well to this extension. Update: This feature is now available on the German Wikipedia. I think you logo would nicely decorate this Special:Book page. He!ko (talk) 11:37, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with File:Take my breath away.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Take my breath away.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

"Removing non-relevant link" on "Challenge-response authentication"[edit]

Hi Husky!

FYI, I disagree with your removal of the link from Challenge-response authentication to my external wiki page on algorithms showing how storage of plaintext-equivalents can be avoided with simple C/R schemes. Although I am obviously biased, I find the link highly relevant. Right now, most people implementing or designing trivial C/R schemes do not realize that the problem can be avoided at all. This is reflected even in Internet RFCs - the authors did not realize! I am not aware of a more appropriate Wikipedia article to have this mentioned in, and my understanding is that publishing the algorithms right in Wikipedia (and only in Wikipedia) would be inappropriate - need to refer to an external source. Similarly, making a statement and not backing it up with algorithms would be inappropriate.

Please consider restoring the link, or bring the topic up on the discussion page. I have little doubt that people will find the info relevant.

Thanks,

- /sd —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.42.179.198 (talk) 12:45, 22 August 2010 (UTC)

I brought the issue up on the talk page for the article: Talk:Challenge-response_authentication#Storage_of_plaintext-equivalents_can_be_avoided_with_simple_C.2FR_schemes. I am still puzzled as to why you found the link "non-relevant"; I included a guess in my comment on the article's talk page, but I'd appreciate a comment from you. Perhaps the info and link need to be re-introduced in a manner more consistent with the rest of the article, and you could help with this (at least by explaining your reasoning). Thanks! --Solardiz (talk) 19:06, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Meetup in NYC?[edit]

Thanks for suggesting this. Unfortunately, I'll be leaving NY on Friday March 16 and I have business events that include dinner on the 14th and on the 15th, so it's unlikely I can be free while you are there. - PKM (talk) 01:07, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

File:Kiefer.jpg listed for deletion[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Kiefer.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for deletion. Invitation to an event from Wikimedia UK[edit]

You may be aware of volunteer training course that Wikimedia UK is running - Train the Trainer. This course is designed for Wikimedians who are willing to share their knowledge of editing with newcomers. Throughout the two day session run by a professional training company the participants are given general skills to make them better trainers. This has been open to UK based volunteers, but since we have two slots left we are keen to offer them to volunteers from other chapters. Effeietsanders suggested that you may be interested in the session. We would require that your Chapter covers your travel and accommodation. Wikimedia UK is covering the cost of the training session.

The workshop is taking place on 27-28 October in London. It is a very valued event, useful from a very broad perspective. It will be a chance to get accredited and receive detailed feedback about your presenting and training skills, get general trainer skills and of course help deliver Wikipedia training sessions.

If the date does not suit you I am happy to keep you informed of future sessions (the next one in London though may not be for the next 10-12 months). Happy to answer any questions beforehand. Would be great if you could let me know by 22 October. Thanks, Daria Cybulska (WMUK) (talk) 08:16, 18 October 2012 (UTC) (daria.cybulska@wikimedia.org.uk)

Disambiguation link notification for January 26[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Heino, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Peter Fox (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

April 2014[edit]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to KeePass may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • monitors (other applications won't get notifications that the clipboard content has been changed)) and it has a paste-once functionality: allow only one paste operation, after pasting the clipboard
  • * MacPass, a free and open source native client for Mac OS X<ref>[http://mstarke.github.io/MacPass/</ref>

Tool directory[edit]

Hi Hay, two things. One, the directory does not appear to be updating. Two, I made a tool to add tools to your tool directory (indirection overload!). For that purpose, I made a wiki page with JSON, where anyone can add tools. I have already added a few, but they don't seem to be updating... --Magnus Manske (talk) 20:58, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

Hey Magnus. I've had some problems updating the tools directory, but it is supposed to be running again. Anyway, i've set it up for daily at first, but i've adjusted it to update every hour, like it used to do. Should fix all problems right? Thanks for creating the missing webtools tool, let's add ALL the tools to the index ;) Huskyoog.jpg Husky (talk page) 22:05, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
You are clearly still using an image in your signature, contrary to WP:SIGIMAGE, which is policy. Please change your signature as soon as possible. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:45, 3 August 2015 (UTC)
@Husky: Sorry, but no new tools were added since then (thought they should), and the crawler logs don't show any activity either.
@Redrose64: Really? Hijacking other people's discussion thread with some non-issue? Are there not enough things on Wikipedia that actually need fixing? --Magnus Manske (talk) 08:12, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
@Magnus Manske: It's not a non-issue, it's a policy violation, and if you look up the page, one that has existed for more than four years without a single response from Husky. --Redrose64 (talk) 08:26, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
So in these four years, what harm has come from it? Is there an actual problem, or just "because policy"? --Magnus Manske (talk) 09:09, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
There are eight reasons listed at WP:SIGIMAGE. This section is substantially the same as it was when I first posted here (17:56, 6 January 2011) with the only textual changes being differences of capitalisation. It is also completely unchanged (apart from the addition of the WP:SIGIMAGE shortcut itself) since it was marked as policy eighteen months ago. This followed this RfC, which HJ Mitchell (talk · contribs) closed with the comment "there is consensus to upgrade the sections on forgery, image use, and appearance & colour to policy status". --Redrose64 (talk) 10:51, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
So, "because policy", no actual problem. How much time and energy was wasted on pursuing this, inspector Javert? --Magnus Manske (talk) 12:01, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
In what way is "images of any kind must not be used in signatures" unclear, or open to flexible interpretation? What do we have policies for, if not to handle problems? --Redrose64 (talk) 18:00, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
Exactly! Policies to handle problems. But there is no problem here that I can see, except for the letter of the policy. It's sad to see people waste effort to enforce things like this, when there is so much constructive work to be done. Which is why I will stop discussing this now, and go back to actually improving the project. --Magnus Manske (talk) 10:24, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
@Husky: Thanks, tool directory updated (though not hourly anymore?). And did you change something in the interface? The layout algorithm seems to be a bit wonky. --Magnus Manske (talk) 12:27, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
It's supposed to update every hour, but the labs cronjobs feel a bit like black magic to me. I did indeed change something: i rewrote the whole application to use PHP and jQuery instead of Angular, see here, so maybe there's something with the way the things are layed out. Huskyoog.jpg Husky (talk page) 12:37, 5 August 2015 (UTC)
@Husky: Hi ! I tried to add WPCleaner to the tools directory yesterday but nothing seems to happen, and the last entry in the crawler's log is from 1 year ago. Did I do something wrong ? --NicoV (Talk on frwiki) 05:50, 13 October 2015 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open![edit]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Your tools[edit]

Hi! Yesterday I came across this cool tool. Any chance it could analyze all Wikipedias? You see, when working at Wikidata and adding some properties (from some external link templates), it is useful to know, which Wikipedias contain the external link, so those Wikipedias needs to be analyzed further (for example, with your exturl tool :) ). It can be a different tool, where I could get at least approximate picture of what's happening with that specific website (like: "wikipedia - approx. count of links"). And maybe you could throw up a new tool? It shouldn't be too difficult, probably. So I have for example this template. Could I get (again - approx. is OK) count of transclusions of it at all Wikipedias, which are in iws? I assume, you could take the algorithm for count at all projects from iw from langviews tool. Again, this is useful for WD work. Thoughts? --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 09:47, 6 March 2016 (UTC)

Organic Frequencies[edit]

Hi, I hope I'm writing in the right place. I have some questions about the page Organic Frequencies and would appreciate you're guidance. You're writing that it is "Pseudoscientific". In fact I never meant to create the impression that it is scientific. Organic Frequencies is a term that is used among musicians and sound therapists to describe their attempt to step out of pitch standard, and experiment with sound frequencies that they believe to be in more resonance with the body. For the moment this field isn't scientific as far as I know, but it is very common and there's defiantly a movement among musicians and energy healers to explore other pitches in relation to body resonance, rather than just for music making. On the section Today you relate to Dr. Barbara Brennan as "an unreliable source". I'm a bit puzzled about that... Dr. Brennan, an ex NASA physicist, has been researching sound and light frequencies since the 70's in UCLA among other universities and has formed the only school for energy healing that is accredited (by the state of Florida) in the country. She's also the best selling author of two books on the subject. I'm wondering how is this not reliable? or perhaps I should explain more about her in the article? I'd appreciate some guidance on the subject. The movement of professionals in the fields of music, science and energy healing, that are looking to set other standards for the musical pitch, as well as their experiments and theories aren't scientific, but it is happening, and has been for a long time now. This article isn't about a specific pitch, it's not here to advocate for the scientific pitch or any other, it is about the search for a pitch, or the term that people commonly use for this search: "Organic Frequencies".

Wikimedian in Residence BoF at Wikimania 2017[edit]

Hello!

My name is David Alves (User:Horadrim~usurped), and I'm an Wikipedian in Residence at RIDC NeuroMat (User:Horadrim). I've reach your contact through the Wikimedian in residence page in Outreach. As you may know, Wikimania 2017 is coming! I am here because, as a fellow WiR, I believe this would be a great opportunity for us to share experiences, discuss difficulties and exchange solutions, creating a community among us capable of supporting in other projects that would benefit from residents. In that sense, I have submitted a proposal of a Birds of a Feather activity to Wikimania that you can check out here. I hope to count with your support in this project and would like to invite you to join us if you participate in Wikimania. In case of any doubts, please feel free to contact me, either in my talk pages or by e-mail at david.alves(at)outlook.com.

Thank you very much! ‎Horadrim~usurped (talk) 00:33, 13 April 2017 (UTC)
