Speedy deletion nomination of Wilson & Ditch talk: Digging America
[edit]Hello, IAmChaos
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Wilson & Ditch talk: Digging America for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons. For more details please see the notice on the article.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

- After a motion, arbitration enforcement page protections no longer need to be logged in the AELOG. A bot now automatically posts protections at WP:AELOG/P. To facilitate this bot, protection summaries must include a link to the relevant CT page (e.g.

Temporary account IP viewer granted
[edit]
Hello, IAmChaos. Per your request, your account has been granted temporary-account-viewer rights. You are now able to reveal the IP addresses of individuals using temporary accounts that are not visible to the general public. This is very sensitive information that is only to be used to aid in anti-abuse workflows. Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer for more information on this user right. It is important to remember:
- You must not share IP address data with someone who does not have the same access permissions unless disclosure is permissible as per guidelines listed at Foundation:Policy:Wikimedia Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy.
- Access must not be used for political control, to apply pressure on editors, or as a threat against another editor in a content dispute. There must be a valid reason to investigate a temporary user. Note that using multiple temporary accounts is not forbidden, so long as they are not used in violation of policies (for example, block or ban evasion).
It is also important to note that the following actions are logged for others to see:
- When a user accepts the preference that enables or disables IP reveal for their account.
- Revealing an IP address of a temporary account.
- Listing the temporary accounts that are associated with one or more IP addresses (using the CIDR notation format).
Remember, even if a user is violating policy, avoid revealing personal information if possible. Use temporary account usernames rather than disclosing IP addresses directly, or give information such as same network/not same network or similar. If you do not want the user right anymore then please ask me or another administrator and it will be removed for you. You may also voluntarily give up access at any time by visiting Special:Preferences. Happy editing! asilvering (talk) 03:11, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

Guide to temporary accounts
[edit]Hello, IAmChaos. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.
Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.
How do temporary accounts work?
- When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern:
~2025-12345-67(a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5). - All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
- A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
- As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
- There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
- There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.
Temporary account IP viewer user right
- Administrators may grant the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right to non-administrators who meet the criteria for granting. Importantly, an editor must make an explicit request for the permission (e.g. at WP:PERM/TAIV)—administrators are not permitted to assign the right without a request.
- Administrators will automatically be able to see temporary account IP information once they have accepted the Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy via Special:Preferences or via the onboarding dialog which comes up after temporary accounts are deployed.
Impact for administrators
- It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
- It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
- Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).
Rules about IP information disclosure
- Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
- Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g.
~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR
, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67) - See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.
Useful tools for patrollers
- It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options →
Enable the user info card
- This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
- Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
- Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
- The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

Rollback granted
[edit]
Hi IAmChaos. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:
- Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or Ultraviolet. It just adds a [rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits. For more information about when rollback is appropriate, see Wikipedia:Rollback § When to use rollback.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the permission will be revoked.
- Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!
I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, and feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate use of rollback. If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin) and Wikipedia:Rollback. Hi IAmChaos, first thank you for your work at WP:AFC/R and checking behind things. I am coming here regarding this comment where you reopened a request I declined due to WP:ARBECR. I get where you are coming from but time and again I have seen admins and Arbs explain A1 is very specific and only includes edit requests on article talk pages so anything outside of that is not allowed which includes the Wikipedia namespace, Drafts, etc. See User talk:S0091/Archive 5#A comment you made a long time ago for one example directly involving me and erroneous guidance unknowingly I gave.
I am not going to re-close the redirect request but just wanted to explain why I take a very strict interpretation. I can see the argument that WP:AFC/R is essentially an edit request but in the Wikipedia namespace. What I do suggest though is posing the question at WT:Arbitration Committee/Clerks. If you do that, please ping me as I am interested in the response. Thanks again, S0091 (talk) 20:50, 13 November 2025 (UTC)

ArbCom 2025 Elections voter message
[edit]Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:41, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
Hello! Just letting you know that the automated tool didn't properly close one of the requests, or answer all of the redirects in that request. (Diff) Cheers :-) LR.127 (talk) 18:51, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
- @LR.127 I answered two as {{R from modification}}. I am not familiar with the topic, so I left the acronyms for another editor to review. I have a few minutes now, so I can take another look. The userscript will only close a request if you respond to all of the open requests. Happy Editing -- IAmChaos 18:54, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
I am looking for guidance
[edit]Hello IAmChaos, I hope you can provide me some guidance. I found this article, and at first I think I should move the 7th inline citation tag to the end of the sentence like this: is 100% preventable[7]. But then, I opened that 7th source and I didn't find any direct statement that claims "food poisoning is 100% preventable"; so what could be the best way to edit the article here, should I delete the entire statement? and if I do so, should I add something about it on the talk section or it is ok to not mention it? Palcoti (talk) 23:37, 21 November 2025 (UTC)
- Great spot @Palcoti! There is a section on prevention on the cited page, but it does not say that it is 100%. The best options here are
- Find a reliable source that says it is 100%
- Drop a note on the talk page; there are over 200 people watching it right now, then if you get no response, asking at the Food wikiproject, which seems pretty active.
- Or, just edit it yourself. A famous guideline here on Wikipedia is WP:BB, or Be Bold! Fix the issue you think was found. If someone disagrees, they will undo it and we can start a discussion on why. This is the BRD cycle.
- I think the third option is the best for most edits, so go ahead and make the change. Happy Editing -- IAmChaos 01:14, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your help @IAmChaos, I also think the best option is number 3 because I read is statically impossible in practice that an event can occur every 100% of the time. Also I found this statement has been for around 15 years, so do you know any way to quickly jump to the moment when the data was added? because it took me a lot of time to find it. Palcoti (talk) 02:23, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
- I don't know a good way to do that, unfortunately. The folks over at WT:URA may have a tool that I am unfamiliar with, but I would personally end up stumbling around, probably skipping 50 edits at a time to narrow it down, and that doesn't seem like fun. Happy Editing -- IAmChaos 02:31, 22 November 2025 (UTC)

Articles for creation backlog drive
[edit]
Hello IAmChaos:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive in December!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than half a month of outstanding reviews from the current 2+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 December 2025 through 31 December 2025.
You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
There is a backlog of over 3000 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help!

Administrator Elections - Call for Candidates
[edit]The administrator elections process has officially started! Interested editors are encouraged to self-nominate or arrange to be nominated by reviewing the instructions at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Candidates.
Here is the schedule:
- November 25 – December 1 - Call for candidates
- December 4–8 - Discussion phase
- December 9–15 - SecurePoll voting phase
Please note the following:
- The requirements to run are identical to RFA—a prospective candidate must be extended confirmed.
- Prospective candidates are advised to become familiar with the community's expectations of administrators, which are much higher than the minimum requirement of having extended confirmed status. This includes reviewing successful and unsuccessful RFAs, reading the essay Wikipedia:Advice for admin elections candidates, and possibly requesting an optional poll on their chances of passing.
- The process will have a seven day call for candidates phase, a two day pause, a five day discussion phase, and a seven day private vote using SecurePoll. Discussion and questions are only allowed on the candidate pages during the discussion phase.
- The outcome of this process is identical to making a request for adminship. There is no official difference between an administrator appointed through RFA versus administrator elections.
- Administrator elections are also a valid means of regaining adminship for de-sysopped editors.
Ask any questions about the process at the talk page. Later, a user talk message will be sent to official candidates with additional information about the process.
If you are interested in the process, please make sure to watchlist the appropriate pages. A watchlist notice will be added when the discussion phase opens, and again when the voting phase opens.

Speedy deletion nomination of 271,000
[edit]
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on 271,000 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Administrators' newsletter – December 2025
[edit]News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2025).

- Starting on November 4, the IP addresses of logged-out editors are no longer being publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account associated with their edits.
- Administrators will now find that Special:MergeHistory is now significantly more flexible about what it can merge. It can now merge sections taken from the middle of the history of the source (rather than only the start) and insert revisions anywhere in the history of the destination page (rather than only the start). T382958
- The December 2025 administrator elections are scheduled from Nov 25 – Dec 15.
- An Articles for Creation backlog drive is happening in December 2025, with over 1,000 drafts awaiting review from the past two months. In addition to AfC participants, all administrators and new page patrollers can help review using the Yet Another AFC Helper Script, which can be enabled in the Gadgets settings. Sign up here to participate!
Administrator Elections - Voting Phase
[edit]The voting phase of the December 2025 administrator elections has started and will continue until Dec 15 at 23:59 UTC. You can participate in the voting phase at Wikipedia:Administrator elections/December 2025/Voting phase.
As a reminder, the schedule of the election is:
- Dec 9–15 - SecurePoll voting phase
- Scrutineering phase
In the voting phase, the candidate subpages close to public questions and discussion, and everyone who qualifies to vote has a week to use the SecurePoll software to vote, which uses a secret ballot. You can see who voted, but not who they voted for. Please note that the vote totals cannot be made public until after voting has ended and as such, it will not be possible for you to see an individual candidate's vote total during the election. The suffrage requirements are similar to those at RFA.
Once voting concludes, we will begin the scrutineering phase, which will last for a few days, perhaps longer. Once everything is certified, the results will be posted on the results page (this is a good page to watchlist), and transcluded to the main election page. In order to be granted adminship, a non-recall candidate must have received at least 70.0% support, calculated as Support / (Support + Oppose), and a minimum of 20 support votes. Recall candidates must achieve 55.0% support. Because this is a vote and not a consensus, there are no bureaucrat discussions ("crat chats").
Any questions or issues can be asked on the election talk page. Thank you for your participation. Happy electing.

Assistance With Article For Deletion: Joekels
[edit]Hi @IAmChaos
I noticed on the article I created Joekels, that you previously made some small edits. The article has now been marked as AfD, and I was wondering if it would be possible for you to assist in the voting discussion to help keep it up, and help improve the article further, so that it can improve and avoid deletion. I'm not sure if this is correct protocol to follow here as I am pretty new to Wikipedia, but I thought I would give it a shot. Thanks in advance. Van1985 (talk) 08:29, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi Van1985 It looks like the only edit I made to the page was adding a short description. I wouldn't know enough about the topic to write much in the article itself. Happy Editing -- IAmChaos 02:25, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
"This submission is not adequately supported by reliable sources."
[edit]Hi,
I am special needs and getting reliable sources is really hard for me to do, I have already contacted many people for more sources for my work and the highest I got was from GamesBeat, I have got a reply from people at GamesBeat but due to them being busy with other stories they could not publish mine, getting anymore sources then what I have I have trouble with.
Is it possible for my page to be reconsidered?
Thank you. Kxttydrea (talk) 21:18, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Kxttydrea, writing about yourself is generally very difficult on Wikipedia, as you would have a conflict of interest. Your draft seems to have already been deleted once by User:Explicit for being promotional, and to be honest it looks to me like it qualifies for that deletion criteria again. Also, a list of sources at the end is not adequate for Wikipedia articles, you need to use inline citations. {{inline}} explains that problem, and instructions for including citations are given at WP:INLINECITE. I would also suggest looking at the message I left on your talk page about writing an autobiography on Wikipedia. Happy Editing -- IAmChaos 21:27, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Ikipedia
[edit]
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Ikipedia requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.
Archiving redirect autopatrol discussions
[edit]Stupid question: is there a process for this other than deleting the completed requests off the main page and then copying a link to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Redirect autopatrol list/Old requests? Rusalkii (talk) 19:21, 24 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Rusalkii: Seemingly no. I just did a few yesterday, I figured two weeks was long enough to let them linger. The way the archive is set up makes it a little more complicated than OCA, or sigmabot, but I'm sure we could ask one of the many archiving bot ops to try it if you think it's worth the effort. It's a rather low profile page though I think. Maybe User:MusikAnimal, his bot does more than just moving sections for the WP:PERM pages. Again though, not sure how much effort we want to put in. You may not be aware that there is a bot which patrols this category and reminds users to give them a chance to do something about the draft. Please consider leaving the drafts for the bot so reviewers can be notified and given ample time to sort out what they want to do with the draft, otherwise it'll be returned to the queue anyway in due time. — Tenshi! Tech News: 2026-04
[edit]Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Updates for editors
- The tray shown on Special:Diff in mobile view has been redesigned. It is now collapsed by default, and incorporates a link to undo the edit being viewed, making it easier for mobile editors and reviewers to take action while keeping the interface uncluttered. [1]
- The Global Watchlist lets you view your watchlists from multiple wikis on one page. The extension continues to improve — it now automatically determines the text direction (ensuring correct display of sites with unusual domain names) and shows detailed descriptions for log actions. Later this week, a new permanent link for page creations and CSS classes for each entry element will be added. [2][3][4][5]
View all 32 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, the previously observed issue in Vector 2022, where anchor link targets were obscured by the sticky header, has now been addressed. [6]
Updates for technical contributors
- As mentioned in the October 2025 deprecation announcement, MediaWiki Interfaces team will begin sunsetting all transform endpoints containing a trailing slash from the MediaWiki REST API the week of January 26. Changes are expected to roll out to all wikis on or before January 30th. All API users currently calling them are encouraged to transition to the non-trailing slash versions. Both endpoint variations can be found, compared, and tested using the REST Sandbox. If you have questions or encounter any problems, please file a ticket in Phabricator to the #MW-Interfaces-Team board.
- Interactive reference documentation for the Wikimedia REST API has moved. Requests to API docs previously hosted through RESTBase (e.g.:
https://en.wikipedia.org/api/rest_v1/) are now redirected to the REST Sandbox. - The WMF Wikidata Platform team (WDP) has published its January 2026 newsletter. It includes updates on the legacy full-graph endpoint decommissioning, the User-Agent policy change, the monthly Blazegraph migration office hours, and efforts to reduce regressions caused by the legacy endpoint shutdown. As a reminder, you can subscribe to the WDP newsletter!
Detailed code updates later this week: MediaWiki
Meetings and events
- The Wikimedia Hackathon Northwestern Europe 2026 will take place on 13-14 March 2026 in Arnhem, the Netherlands. Applications opened mid-December and will close soon or when capacity is reached. It's a two-day, technically oriented hackathon bringing together Wikimedians from the region. Hope to see you there!
