General Sanction notice

Please read this notice carefully.

You are receiving this notice because you recently edited one or more pages relating to blockchain or cryptocurrencies topics. You have not done anything wrong. We just want to alert you that "general" sanctions are authorized for certain types of edits to those pages.

General sanctions is a system of conduct regulation designed to minimise disruption in controversial topic areas. This means uninvolved administrators can impose sanctions for edits relating to these topics that do not adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, our standards of behaviour, or relevant policies. Administrators may impose sanctions such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks. An editor can only be sanctioned after the editor has been made aware that general sanctions are in effect. It is only effective if it is logged here. Before continuing to edit pages in these topic areas, please familiarise yourself with the general sanctions system. Hi there IOHKwriter - I was wondering if you (and others more knowledgeable) would be willing to expand upon the Ouroboros (protocol) page. Hello Bob, I work for IOHK so am deemed to have a conflict of interest and do not work on pages. Instead, I make occasional suggestions and keep an eye on how Wikipedia's anti-blockchain stance is being implemented. For example, I have just raised the general issue of not being able to use any crypto indices on the cryptocurrency talk page. I was pleased to note that the Cardano page had a million visits within a year of being reinstated, and any mention of IOHK or Cardano is no longer automatically treated as spam. If you look back to the hatchet job that was done on Ouroboros page in Nov 2020, you'll see that even links to published journal papers were deleted; and no attempt was made to find published versions of the preprint links. A paper published in the proceedings of the 2018 [[1]] SIGSAC conference was described as "unreliable and non-peer-reviewed". You would have thought a paper setting out the theory behind Ethereum 2.0 with Buterin as an author would be worth making an exception, but no, that was cut too. Similarly, you would have thought the spat between Buterin and Kiayias over Ouroboros/Casper would be worth considering. It appears to be Wikipedia policy only to link to published journal/book papers, even though ordinary readers usually have no access to these expensive sources. Links to the preprints, which are usually freely available, are deleted. Some of these could be revisited, though you will probably find the editors who did the slashing are aggressive in their response.IOHKwriter (talk) 17:09, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
