Other language magazines[edit]

One thing I have been meaning to compliment you on, which may not be obvious to a lot of people, but that I definitely noticed, is your usage of non-English magazines to source the RPG articles you work on. I was wondering if there was some kind of online index available so that I could access this knowledge for myself, and so that it can be shared with other interested people? I compiled User:BOZ/Backstab a couple of months ago using over a dozen issues that I found on archive.org, and I have been compiling User:BOZ/Casus Belli while trying to match up the reviews listed at RPGGeek for many of the issues. For the record, RPGnet does not seem to tackle anything not in English (or at least rarely does so), but RPGGeek does make an honest effort to cover all the other language material (even if it falls short of being complete). In reviewing sources you have used, for Polish magazine Magia i Miecz [1], I did manage to find over 40 issues on archive.org: [2]. I did not find any of these on archive.org, but I see indexes of Portuguese Dragão Brasil, Spanish Dosdediez, German Envoyer, and Danish Fønix, although I have yet to go through those indexes to see if reviews are listed there the way they are on Casus Belli. This can be an important key to improving a lot of articles, and in some cases certainly for even establishing notability when the English sources come up short. :) BOZ (talk) 14:39, 15 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@BOZ: Thanks for noticing! The answer here is... that online indices like these are, as you say, quite lacking for non-English magazines (and even for English magazines will sometimes just opaquely note that an issue has a reviews section without mentioning what was reviewed). My method has simply been to get hold of the magazines (including through Archive.org, scans, official PDF versions, etc) and to skim every issue from cover to cover while making notes of relevant coverage. This is quite time-consuming, but there's not really any other choice - I just put on a podcast and get going. It of course helps that I'm only looking for coverage of WoD and can immediately skip over anything not related to that series.--AlexandraIDV 00:13, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Kodaka's works[edit]

The Danganronpa trilogy games are all now GAs. I only worked more in the first two and sequel anime while another user worked in Killing Harmony. I thought about Akudama Drive too but I don't know what to do with it. Feel free to edit it or provide commentary. I originally meant to nominate it after a copyedit but since the twitter has been teasing important news for Christmas, I removed such request similar to what happened when I expanded Judgment (video game) and removed my request for copyedits until the ports were released and then I made it GA. Anyways, I hope you enjoy Christmas and other parties. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 21:30, 20 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Tintor2: Good stuff! The AD article looks pretty good, too, but yeah, might be best to wait until the 24th in case whatever is happening then will require any big edits. I hope you enjoy the holidays as well.--AlexandraIDV 14:56, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Violet Evergarden[edit]

Hi, hope you're doing well. As I just remembered your contributions to the Violet Evergarden Soundtrack section, if you'd like to contribute, would you like to help refine this article for the same series VIOLET EVERGARDEN:Echo Through Eternity, and do you have happen to have knowledge in the topic stylizing album names, if yes I'm having issues and if you would like to help, I'd be thankful. Thank you! HimuTheEditor (talk) 07:01, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@HimuTheEditor: Hi, I haven't actually finished Violet Evergarden (yet) but I wouldn't mind helping with formatting and stuff. I'll try to remember to take a look sometime this weekend.--AlexandraIDV 09:11, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, good day & stay safe! HimuTheEditor (talk) 13:40, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot to ask you something, could you please take a look at this article A Shape of Light, do you think it's appropriate to mention the correct album name with [Shape A] and [Shape B] stuff? like it's full title is actually "a silent voice the movie" original sound track: a shape of light [Shape A] and an other editor would not let me write that and instead tells me stylization thingy instead and mentions its full title copied from Apple Music. It's not even about mentioning it anywhere else on the article, it's just like writing it like – A Shape of Light (stylized as "a shape of light"; full title: "a silent voice the movie" original sound track: a shape of light [Shape A]. Isn't that supposed to be correct? HimuTheEditor (talk) 13:48, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page watcher) - Himu, you really should be contacting a Wikiproject or starting an WP:RFC on the article talk page or something rather than picking and choosing who you ask for opinions on it. Sergecross73 msg me 14:03, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Mmm, I'm not offended or anything so no worries, but I agree. I don't mind helping people with stuff sometimes, but I'm just one person, and I don't even write about music much - it would probably be best if you asked WP:WikiProject Anime and manga or WP:WikiProject Albums.--AlexandraIDV 14:17, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ohh, I didn't knew I'd to ask there, I mean I just got to know it now. Alright, thank you for your time. I'll post it on the article's talk page. HimuTheEditor (talk) 14:23, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Fantasywelt[edit]

Do you know much about this German magazine?: https://www.rpggeek.com/rpgperiodical/5239/fantasywelt It apparently ended in 1995, but looks like it did at least a little bit of WOD coverage before it went: https://www.rpggeek.com/rpgissuearticle/28258/spielkiste BOZ (talk) 16:24, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

AfD[edit]

Hi. In the future when responding to AfD discussions, could you please make your additions below the other !votes that were made after your initial !vote? I had not realized that you had edited your !vote here to oppose our proposal to merge until after the close today, and I was checking the discussion regularly. I would have liked to have responded to it, but I guess it's moot now. -"Ghost of Dan Gurney" 20:57, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page watcher) Nothing wrong with what Alexandra did, very typical and daresay expected way of adding to one's own vote. To add a later statement separately could be viewed as double voting. -- ferret (talk) 21:12, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@GhostOfDanGurney: I didn't mean to hide my added comment (Ferret's post accurately describes why I made the second post like that), although I guess it would be good if I had {{ping}}ed the editors making the merge proposal so they would've been notified - I'll try to remember to do that in the future.--AlexandraIDV 21:25, 10 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Do you see any more sources out there to improve Josh Mosqueira, anything in the WOD-related material you have been keeping track of? I'd like to see more on his paper RPG work than what we currently have. BOZ (talk) 22:32, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@BOZ: I cannot recall seeing any, sorry. Most of the coverage is of individual games and books.--AlexandraIDV 19:20, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'd like some extra eyes on a project I've ended putting a lot into over the past several months. I've just completed an extensive expansion/rewrite of Samurai Champloo, with the plan to take it to GA. Having extra eyes from someone within the anime Wikipedia space would be more than useful, since I haven't done that much outside the VG space (I did Blood-C back in the day, but that was ages ago). --ProtoDrake (talk) 16:17, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ethan Skemp[edit]

Do you see anything that could help with Ethan Skemp which is at PROD? BOZ (talk) 13:25, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@BOZ: Sorry, the sources I have are mostly about RPGs themselves - when I have found something else that still has some connection to WoD I have added it under "general coverage" on my WoD coverage list.--AlexandraIDV 20:23, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Fan editor research interview[edit]

Hi Alexandra! I don't believe we have interacted on here before, but my name is Gen. Quon, and I'm an editor who, for the last decade(!) or so has worked on pop culture articles about the X-Files, The Office, and Adventure Time, among many other things. I'm also working on my PhD in library science, and my dissertation is on the information behaviors of fan editors. (Here's a more detailed outline of my project, if you'd like to read about it!) My work is largely autoethnographic, but I'm also wanting to work qualitative interviewing into the works. As such, I've been reaching out to editors to see if they can share their experiences with me. I'm trying to find editors who aren't in my immediate spheres, and that's how I came upon your account. I noticed your activeness in the video game and anime/manga spheres here on Wikipedia, and the fact that you're a native Swedish speaker is also cool. I was wondering if you'd be interested in chatting with me about your information experiences here as a Wikipedia editor? I'm curious about how you go through the process of finding info, judging it, and sharing it. I'm also more than happy to provide any additional info if you'd like it! Thanks!!--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 18:03, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Gen. Quon: Oh cool, I used to study LIS, too (haven't finished my studies though due to life and world events). Yeah, I don't mind talking to you about this!--AlexandraIDV 21:22, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh excellent! (Interestingly enough, you're the second person I've reached out to who has told me that they also studied LIS. The serendipity!) Do you have Wikipedia email set up? I can send you a more detailed explanation of the project if you'd like.--Gen. Quon[Talk](I'm studying Wikipedia!) 21:27, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Gen. Quon: Mmhm, it should be set up and good to go.--AlexandraIDV 21:35, 10 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Shining series[edit]

Hello! I just wanted to let you know that, if you're still interested in the Shining series, i've left a plethora of sources for every entry made by Camelot (who later made the Golden Sun trilogy) to expand the articles at their respective talk pages (though there might be more that i've missed). I'm leaving the links to them here in case when you feel ready. Those titles being: Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force, Shining Force Gaiden, Shining Force: The Sword of Hajya, Shining Force II, Shining Force CD, Shining Force Gaiden: Final Conflict, Shining Wisdom, Shining the Holy Ark and Shining Force III. I hope you have a great day! Roberth Martinez (talk) 16:53, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@KGRAMR: I'm personally unlikely to work on these (I haven't even played any Shining games) but appreciate the work in finding a lot of sources.--AlexandraIDV 17:55, 6 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

For one, you may have seen that this article was moved to mainspace; it's currently in an unfinished state, as I planned on finishing it in full in the draftspace and put the project on hold temporarily, but a user insisted on moving it over anyways. I'll return to it sometime soon.
As for now, however, I'm bringing Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam to GA status. I'm rewriting the Gameplay section but I'm having a tough time fleshing it out; I've never played a Mario & Luigi game, and every reviewer is simply saying "it's like the old games, you should know by now" and only specifies what's new. If you have the time, could you give me a briefing on what I should include? I should be able to find sources once I know what I'm looking for. Any information outside of combat will do. Panini! 🥪 14:43, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, that's a classic problem with writing articles about games late into a series - reviewers all expect you to know the drill by now. I've mostly played the first three M&L games, so I do not know to what extent things change as the series moves on, but I can say that those three involve exploring and solving puzzles in a large overworld while simultaneously controlling both Mario and Luigi: one brother walks in front while the other follows behind, and the A and B buttons are their respective jump buttons. Typically they learn various special co-op moves that can be used both for overworld traversal and in battles, such as high jump, or a spin jump that lets you hover. They're rather similar to Paper Mario 64 and The Thousand-Year Door (only PM games I've played) in terms of game design and tone. AlexandraIDV 18:18, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds good, @Alexandra IDV! The reviewers have covered all the new content there is to know, so I've got that covered. I would've missed the co-op move portion if it weren't for your "translations". Panini! 🥪 18:54, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In regards to the Famicom exclusivity of Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II[edit]

I would like to work with you on improving that section of the Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei article in order to drive home the fact that Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II was only released for the Famicom and built upon the mechanics seen in the Famicom version of Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei.

Also, in regards to why you undid my edit, I'd like to point out that the Super Famicom ports of Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei and Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei II were released together on a single cartridge titled Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei. ArguaBILL (talk) 08:28, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@ArguaBILL: I'll take a look at this after christmas. I know what you want to say, and I do think it's good to point out that it's a sequel to the Famicom DDS:MT specifically. I'm aware of Kyuuyaku, that's the way I played both of these games the first time - but it does mean that MT2 is on Super Famicom in one form.--AlexandraIDV 04:39, 25 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@ArguaBILL: Hmm, I'll tinker with the wording some more.--AlexandraIDV 10:32, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Using your JoJo sandbox as references[edit]

hello! I would like to ask if I could use your JoJo volumes sandbox to use as references. One of my intended goals is to get many of the JoJo pages here to GA, especially for Jotaro, Jolyne, Stardust Crusaders, and Stone Ocean. Is it alright to ask your permission to do so? Lovelyquirks1 (talk) 13:19, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Lovelyquirks1: Yes, of course - I would love to see these articles improved upon. I had been meaning to continue with later parts after I worked on the Phantom Blood article, but things got in the way, so it'd be nice to see this used. I will ask you to link User:Alexandra IDV/JoJo volumes in the edit summary when you add in text I've written, for the sake of attribution, but aside from that, feel free to go ahead.--AlexandraIDV 13:34, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alright! Thank you! Lovelyquirks1 (talk) 14:00, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I don't own any of the JoJo volumes or Araki's other works. Is it alright if you could go back to any of the volumes and Araki's other works and insert any information worth placing? I'm currently creating Giorno's draft first and then I'll do any of the JoJo articles to hopefully pass it to GA and Josuke eventually. You don't have to do this for me, as this is a simple request and I'm sure you're pretty busy and such, but it helps give more information on them. Lovelyquirks1 (talk) 14:55, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Haseo[edit]

This is an old article that I haven't touched in years until recently but do you think Haseo can become a GA? I tried trimming the reception to make it simpler to follow like I did with the other Final Fantasy articles.Tintor2 (talk) 20:17, 22 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Tintor2: Maybe, although I notice when looking at the reference section that the sources seem to mostly be about the media this character is from rather than the character itself.--AlexandraIDV 07:34, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Gave it a look but I only found two sources primarily seeing him.Tintor2 (talk) 19:01, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also found a book from a College that basically sums up him. Couldn't find too much about his voice actor even though he is the actual one who voiced Makishima (the article you reviewed last time).Tintor2 (talk) 22:04, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decided to scrap the Haseo project and instead focus on X (Mega Man). I modeled the reception section after 2B (Nier: Automata) in order to primarily focuses on analysis and scholars commentaries.Tintor2 (talk) 01:27, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Planning to nominate Thorfinn (Vinland Saga) after its copyedit. Feel free to revise if you are interested. Kinda thought about since the latest season led to several articles focused around him.Tintor2 (talk) 01:45, 14 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Goose Game for FAC[edit]

Hey there Alexandra, I'd like to introduce myself; I'm MyCatIsAChonk, and I nominated and got Untitled Goose Game promoted to GA status. When I did so, I was still new to GA, and was not aware of your major contributions to the article. I do recognize I probably should've contacted you before nominating the article, so, sorry!

That being said, I'd like to nominate the article for FAC. I have gone through the article and done a complete spotcheck as well as added a bit more under 'Reception', 'Release', and 'Music'. I've also ensured all citations are properly formatted/wikilinked (though I may have missed a few that are defined in templates). If it's ok with you, I'll co-nominate it with you at FAC. Thoughts? MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) 01:08, 8 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@MyCatIsAChonk: Hi! I don't believe I've actually contributed much to the UGG article (although my memory is known for being faulty), but even if I have, I don't mind you going ahead with a FAC. Good luck!--AlexandraIDV 12:56, 10 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have a copy of the review from Casus Belli (v4, Issue 12 - Nov/Dec 2014) to add to the article? BOZ (talk) 13:29, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BOZ: I do, I've uploaded it here. It covers three books in one.--AlexandraIDV 10:58, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sweet, and awesome, thank you. :) BOZ (talk) 11:06, 25 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Casus Belli reviews[edit]

Hi there! You're always good at picking up a review from this magazine whenever I've found a review in an index for something I need. How likely is it that you would be able to find a review when we don't have it indexed somewhere, or don't even know if Casus Belli did a review for it at all? For example, I've got one review for The Star Cairns[3] in Backstab, but that's not enough to bring the article back. If you have a relatively easy way to find reviews, I wouldn't ask for lots (because that could easily run from dozens, to hundreds...) but if it's not super difficult to check then I would ask for only a few, or at least a few at a time, mostly former articles or current articles with notability issues. BOZ (talk) 03:54, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BOZ: If you have an idea of what magazine issue something might be published in and I have access to it, I'm happy to help - otherwise, it's pretty time-consuming, since I have to flip through issues from cover to cover, one by one, to find reviews and articles. I primarily have magazines from 1991 and forward (since that's when Vampire: The Masquerade came out).--AlexandraIDV 06:04, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha, I figured that might be the case. OK, I will let you know when I know where to look. :) BOZ (talk) 12:33, 25 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! :) Do you have access to the review in Casus Belli #42 (Dec 1987)? BOZ (talk) 12:28, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BOZ: Sorry, I don't have any issues that early.--AlexandraIDV 12:31, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks for checking. BOZ (talk) 12:33, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hey look, it's on Internet Archive! :) [4] Issues #1 through #112 now available!: [5] BOZ (talk) 13:42, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@BOZ: Nice! I have seen a lot of scans of these old French RPG magazines before, so it doesn't surprise me.--AlexandraIDV 14:01, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for helping[edit]

I just wanted to thank you for fixing my edits on the The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak. It's my first time editing larger pieces of articles so I made a few mistakes--the article I was basing the changes on is from another video game that used Summer 2024 as a release date so I did not even think about the fact that the world isn't in one season at a time. Thanks once again! BenSVE (talk) 17:54, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BenSVE: All good, Wikipedia is a collaborative project!--AlexandraIDV 18:47, 21 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Editnotice[edit]

Hi there! :) I am just asking because I am testing it, but when you edited Hunter: The Reckoning did you see a little yellow box above the editing field? BOZ (talk) 23:08, 29 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@BOZ: Hi! I've since seen that you've been trialing a page notice about refideas on the talk page, and I can see the box when I edit the page now, but I don't recall if I saw it at the time.--AlexandraIDV 08:52, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK that's cool, I'm glad you can see it now. :) Do you think this will be generally beneficial to editors, especially given that you have made significant use of the refideas template? BOZ (talk) 13:20, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@BOZ: Mmm, it seems very useful! I think this is a great idea and initiative.--AlexandraIDV 11:31, 1 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Haseo[edit]

I managed to find reliable sources primarily focused on Haseo including a Chinese scholar and implemented them on the reception while trimming a bit the other review sources. I remember CyberConnect promoting their games through gag commercials where Haseo asks for a job and a girlfriend (though the latter one became creepy considering who voices him in Japanese) but I can't find those sites sadly. I would nominate it to GA but I believe it still needs a copyedit before it. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 17:42, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if you are interested but over a month ago I nominated Rurouni Kenshin to GA but got no responses. It's kinda big so I understand if you don't wanna review it. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 23:25, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Tintor2: Hi, I'm sorry, but the situation with Watsuki makes me want to stay as far away from RK as possible. I know people who have been victims of CSA, so it's difficult for me to separate the work from the artist in this instance.--AlexandraIDV 00:24, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. Tintor2 (talk) 10:29, 26 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
