Dispute resolution

I noticed that you're a volunteer of the Mediation Cabal, but I thought that I'd try to ask for your advise before making an official request for mediation.

I'm involved in a dispute with user:panda. After a long and at times very heated debate over at Talk:Swedish language followed by a frustrated attempt at a rather pointy FAR on my part, I filed a Wikiquette Alert. Unfortunately, I don't think any progress is really being made, partially because panda believes that comments and questions from user:henrik, who has been reasonable neutral, but has still sided with me in a lot of issues, are overly partial. There's also still a lot of bad faith floating around that's slowing down just about any progress. Do you think you could take a look at the situation and comment it?

The WQA can be found here.

Hello there, I recently requested peer reviews on the article Slipknot (band) and I found that you had listed yourself on the peer review volunteers. Your review would be greatly appreciated if you have the time, thanks. Rezter (talk) 14:44, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi again, sorry if this appears as though I'm nagging you. But you made some great copy-edits to the aticle Slipknot (band), I moved your comments from the talk page to the peer reviews page. I thought maybe because I did this you didn't see my reply. Anyways, I would just like to thank you once again and say that your input is always welcome. Thanks and happy holidays. No worries. You're not nagging. I'll look for an example of the musical influences. As for the other stuff, it looks good. Can't include what you can't find, right? I'll get back to you on the example. Maroon 5 includes some information on what influenced them, tho I don't think it cites any specific artists. MVP!

I love the part in Mitral valve prolapse where 'death' is listed as a complication. Hahaha. I just read the whole article and realized that I literally do, in fact, have a broken heart!? So I understand that if I edit TOOL there is a COI, because of my undying love for the band. Now if I edit Do You Hear What We Hear?, I can be NPOV because I have never encountered it before. However, today I saved James Thiérrée from deletion, which is essentially about a dude who may or may not be a mime. I don't like mimes. So what's it called when you edit an article you don't really like? the_undertow talk 01:16, 17 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi LauraLove. I'd like to ask you about an edit you made to to this article. Your edit summary said, "*A* review from *one* scientific magazine does not represent the "scientific community"." I'm wondering, what gives you the impression that this review is the only piece of work from mainstream science that criticizes either the movie itself, or the fringe ideas espoused within the movie? In your opinion, what would represent the "scientific community?" Antelan talk 01:38, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

If there's more to it, it needs to be cited in the article. However, that one review is the only reference. One of anything does not represent consensus or a "community". What I consider the "scientific community" is something more than a movie review from a science magazine. Be realistic. LaraLove 03:41, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Help on Asian fetish

I see that you have protected Asian fetish not too long ago. Asian fetish has never been stable since the article was unprotected. User:Tkguy is preventing me from deleting external links (apparently vandalism) and deleting what I think is original research. (He believes that adoption of Asian babies is linked to Asian fetish although it lacks sources.) Can you provide some comment on the talk page please? миражinred (talk) 15:58, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

First off here are the facts:
1) This page has a clear history of vandals wanting to delete any and all content that makes this term into an obsession or something negative.
2) Saranghae honey requested that this page be deleted but that request was denied.
3) Saranghae honey have on many occasion been deleting references from the page that have been on the page for a long time. And this is after Saranghae honey's page deletion request was denied. All references makes asian fetish into something negative or an obsession.
So now you are telling me that Saranghae honey actions are different from the work of the vandals on this page? Just because Saranghae honey says that the deletion is because of the lack of integrity on the page? Can you see why I think this is very questionable? If you can see saranghae honey's side then can you please try to see it from my perspective? Is it possible the updating of the headers and other items are just to hide the fact that Saranghae honey's true purpose is to delete content? Before Saranghae honey just deleted items but now Saranghae is deleting and updating content. If I am not mistaken those who are chronic vandals this is what they typically do to hide their aggressive deletions.
As for the asian adoption items. I provided a definite reference to a piece that connects asian fetish and international adoption. I was also including the possible consequences of this connection. I really don't believe kids who went through international adoption will have the resources to conduct studies or have the time to write articles on this topic. They are probably just trying to survive. But not surprisingly those who have the money and resources to adopt are making sure their perspective are known and do anything to mitigate anything that would make international adoption into a negative thing. But assure you that the connection is there. I strongly suggest you read up on actual experiences of the people who actually were adopted. It is only recently that these adoptees have organized and made their voice heard. Even on the korean adoptee page and International adoption of South Korean children there are edit wars there just like on the asian fetish page where the people on both sides of the issue, those who want to make international adoption into something benign and those who think it's not benign. Let me show you one talk page entry for International adoption of South Korean children that struck me. Seeing that you are a female I am hoping that your experience in a sexist world will make you more sympathetic to the obvious force redefinition of a racist term that is being made on the asian fetish page.
"Well, whether or not it is 'cynical' to point out some of the things which have happened in the history of Korean adoption, I leave up to the reader to decide. This entry was written from the POW of Korean adoptees, and many of us can testify that adoption agencies have NOT always behaved in a way which could be classified as 'care for children whose parents can not care for them'! In fact, some of us can prove that the adoption agencies have NOT acted in our best interests, but instead have been feeding into their own overriding agendas and for their own profit. I do not deny that some agencies also do some worthy welfare work, like running hospitals etc, but this does not mean that everything the agencies have done through the 50 yrs of Korean adoption, has been ethical, hence the reason for pointing out the financial interests which has come as a result of the 'industrialization' of international adoption from Korea. As an adult adoptee, I believe that WE, the adoptees, 'own' our own history and are entitled to tell it from our own POW, instead of conflicting agendas interfering with how it is being portrayed. I therefore do NOT believe that anyone else is entitled to appropriate (a.k.a. KADpropriate) our history by changing it to fit their own image.
Wikipedia moderator, how do I protect this page from being KADpropriated and edited by someone else than the ones history actually belongs to (adult adoptees)????" Tkguy (talk) 22:22, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
You don't go about getting the article protected from people you don't want to edit it. The information you're adding, at least the last addition, was extremely vague. That's not appropriate for an encyclopedia. And you're doing so against consensus. I'm also seeing that you're one revert away from 3RR. So what you need understand is that Wikipedia is not a place for you to write your point of view as someone who has experienced it. Wikipedia articles need to be presented in a neutral point of view, with additions made under consensus, backed by reliable sources. In looking over the talk page and the many inappropriately used editprotected templates, it's clear that there are some issues with understanding the spirit of Wikipedia. This article is not your own. You must keep that in mind. LaraLove 00:04, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
My last entry was something that was deleted a long time ago. and the reason? they are referring to sources that the author deemed bias. journalists and asian community leaders. Please check the Sex crimes against Asian women in the United States if you don't think that people are not targeting asian females. It's not my writing, I copy pasted from an old version of the article. yes, it's a word for word copy and paste. People keep deleting stuff from the page so I am bring the stuff back.
I reverted Saranghae honey's deletes because a page that was historically vandalized, had half it's external links deleted because somebody felt there were too many there. A person who wanted this same page deleted but was denied from doing so. And then I deleted this gem of an entry.
"== Asian fetishes around the world ==
The biggest countries with Asian fetishes are China, South Korea, Japan and Swaziland."
I am confident that I am being neutral. If I was not I would have deleted the joke of an entry for the salon article and the phoebe entry. 200 people and some non-asian people figured out that white men don't have an asian fetish in a study that does not even specifically test for asian fetish? the scientific method is grade school stuff that these columbia grads can't grasp. Some how white men can not be racist for a specific race (asians and whites) but racist for others (blacks)? Same goes for asian females, so they can be not be racist against white but racist against blacks? Then you have another entry where some east asian female, phoebe, married to an non-east asian man claiming that asian fetish can help asian women? that's like saying racism can help minorities. And yes asians can be racist against asians. Why haven't Saranghae honey deleted these entries? Tkguy (talk) 00:56, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
I don't need all this on my talk page. I'm not involved with the article. I don't need statistics. If they're backed by reliable sources, they can go into the article, otherwise, they can't. The external links section is completely ridiculous. If it's not trimmed down to less than 5 in the next couple days, I'll do it myself. I prefer those of you working on the article do it because you guys should know which are most appropriate. Look at WP:EL. LaraLove 01:03, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
He continues to accuse me of pushing my "agenda" in the article. I don't know what to do anymore. миражinred (talk) 16:42, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Peer review for Hilary Duff article

I know that u have stated on top of this page, not to request for reviewing GAC and FAC but are u still "Peer reviewing" articles? The thing is i nominated Hilary Duff article for GA and it has passed its GA nomination. I intend to push it for FA status but before that i want someone unfamiliar with the article to go through it (peer review) so that anything i might have missed is noted and improved at this stage. Also i found ur name on the peer review volunteers list...thats why i'm asking. I guess the article is broad in its coverage, well sourced and referenced, and well written. But still i'd like it to go through a peer review. Thanks...Gprince007 (talk) 15:43, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your concern. This matter has been rehashed ad nauseam on the Talk page. There seems to be enough agreement to start fixing the mess. This was one of the most offensive paragraphs (I assume you're talking about the Elvis' Sex Life paragraph?) It seems to be agreed that it is now time to start cleaning up the mess. Why don't you join in and clean up some of the other stuff? We sure could use some help. We've been knuckling under to the person's obsessions for about a year now, and that's quite long enough, don't you think? Or do you have another plan that might work better? Hoserjoe (talk) 08:48, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

That's amusing. If you'd actually read the talk page, you'd see that I've created a WikiProject for Elvis and we're working on the article. Your changes have been discussed ad nauseum, in that you are correct, and I recall consensus was not in favor of said changes, and you stopped contributing some time after suspicions of sockpuppetry were raised. The article just came out of full protection because of a content dispute earlier this month. Don't force it to be locked again. LaraLove 16:44, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

Do I get a greeting from each of your personalities this morn? LaraLove 15:02, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello... here's a peer review

Sorry for this unsolicited request, but when I found out that you particular strength is polishing articles I just had to thank god and spam here, You see I have worked long and hard on the Sitakunda Upazila article (including creating a host of articles around it, mostly on plant and fish species), and taken it to Wikipedia:Peer review/Sitakunda Upazila/archive1 (and, spammed around a bit). Many of the users I usually can depend on are on extended Wikibreaks (tears).

So far the review I have is fair, but I remember the first featured article I worked on, Shahbag, had much better response, including reviewers lending a hand where necessary (yes, particularly in the area of good prose). Would you, please, take a look at the review and the article? I beg of you, really, and I promise to meet every suggestion you'd make as far as I can.

You don't know me, yet, but I feel mighty confident making this request as I have gone through much research on you before daring to make the request (well, my last bout of spamming on a non-free image met a bit of irritation I didn't expect). Thanks :) Aditya(talkcontribs) 16:41, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

I dropped out of GA because of the hundreds of reviews I did on topics I don't know much about or have any particular interest in, which burned me out on article reviews. I'm listed as a peer reviewer, but only for specific topics of interest. I'm sorry. LaraLove 16:45, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Sure. Reviewing the unknown is real messy business. Well, just one look at the organization/structure would be more than adequate. I am a bit lost on structuring all the info in a smooth flow. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.14.214.136 (talk) 08:31, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for lending a hand there. And sorry for the unsigned comment made while not even logged in. That was all because of trying to do this through WAP. Darn. Aditya(talkcontribs) 23:15, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

The account

Yes, thanks for telling me about that account. :) There seems to be someone going around at the moment creating usernames that spell out the usernames of administrators that have blocked them. Names that spell out "Ryulong" and "Misza13" exist. My own spoofer list is getting bigger now that I seem to be included in the group of administrators that has their usernames spelled out. :) Thanks again. Acalamari 18:17, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Oh, and yes, I will get around to an archiving of my talk page soon. :) Acalamari 18:17, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
I've not gotten spoofs yet. But I was included in a username with Phaedriel and PersianPoetGal. Good times. LaraLove 18:25, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

GAN review of Knitta

Break ups are always so hard, but it's just not working out. We've drifted apart and I think it's time we went our separate ways. Don't blame yourself... we just have different goals. Anyway, I've boxed all your things up and left them by the door. I'm only taking Knitta with me. You can keep anything else you may have of mine. Sorry for the sadness this may bring, but I think it's best for us both this way. LaraLove 20:50, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Okay...I don't understand, but okay... miranda 03:40, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
(/me taking a deep breath)...
First, I "decoded your cryptic message"...finally. Second, I really don't appreciate this edit, for several reasons: 1.) I took out my time to assess the article out of my free time. 2.) I used the icons to finally assess the article, since you asked me to assess it early. 3.) It was very rude. Also, I did not understand the "message" above on my talk page, until I looked at that edit, which was very hurtful to me. It's like, "there isn't a user reviewing this article, when in actuality there is one." However, this is Wikipedia, not real life. So, I guess I should take your "edit" as a grain of salt? But, in the words of Linkin Park, "in the end...it doesn't even matter." Thanks for wasting my time. miranda 08:24, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
I told you these things are hard. And I apologized for any sadness it may have caused you. It's simply a matter of different goals. I want a GA quality article, you want words like "trees" and "pink" wikilinked. I spent more time reviewing and reverting your changes than you did reviewing and making changes. So it's really more about my wasted time than yours, but you're welcome all the same. Best regards, LaraLove 15:23, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Seriously, leave me alone. Go worry about your own article. But, leave me alone and let me have my own peace This was unnecessary. Take all of my talk pages, whatever is related to me off of your watchlists. If you post on my page, you will be reverted. miranda 17:55, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Your attitude and bad faith are unnecessary. And I'm pretty sure everyone knows the risk of reversion when posting to your talk page. That aside, I don't watchlist anything regarding you. LaraLove 19:03, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Definitions

Threat versus warning. Compare those. You have been warned several times on both this page and the Coker talk page about your behavior, by me and others. Focus on the task at hand, stop changing other's words around, making obviously inappropriate assumptions about others opinions, calling names, etc. You've been uncivil and disruptive. LaraLove 19:26, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

I in turn have tried to reach consensus on an issue where rampant excuses and obstructionism are all I've seen in return. Call them threats or warnings -- there's very little semantic difference -- I've gotten them for alleged violations of WP:3RR, WP:NPOV, WP:BLP and loads more, all because of the hypocritical insistence that i have some sort of "agenda". Yet even you must realize that it's all a deliberate excuse to avoid dealing with facts, the kind of facts backed up by reliable and verifiable sources that we demand on Wikipedia. If you have a genuine interest in finding the appropriate wording to meet your unrealistic and unjustifiable demands to fit your selective misinterpretation of Wikipedia policy, I will do what I can to fulfill them. If you refuse to cooperate in reaching consensus, please get out of the way and stop interfering with this article. That's not a warning; just basic decency. Alansohn (talk) 20:50, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Knock off the disrespect. I'm not going to "get out of the way and stop interfering" because you can't grasp what you're being told. I offered an alternative. If you don't like it, post an alternative that you find appropriate, and do it in a respectful manner. That is how consensus is built. Your behavior is disruptive and counter-productive. I can't more clearly lay out my position, yet you can't seem to get past your bad faith assumptions and see it for what it is. I'm not an obstructionist. I don't know this guy past what I've read in the article. The point is, whether you believe it or not, for legal reasons, we can't present quotes of living persons out of context. And save the whole "That's crap" reply, I've already read it the many times you've presented it. And, frankly, I'm tired of repeating myself. I have offered an alternative that is sufficient for this article. If getting this quote showcased is so important, check out Wikiquote. LaraLove 21:00, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
I have already said I will use your suggested framework and described how I will add the quote, with appropriate context. Are you still pushing the nonsense that this is a WP:BLP issue or not? To quote WP:BLP "If an allegation or incident is notable, relevant, and well-documented by reliable published sources, it belongs in the article — even if it's negative and the subject dislikes all mention of it.". Can you point me to one case where Wikipedia -- or any other entity -- has ever been successfully sued for using a quote taken straight from the source's mouth? Do you truly believe that you are protecting Wikipedia or do you have another agenda to prevent information that you feel is negative from appearing in this article? Alansohn (talk) 21:08, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Sorry to butt in here, but Alansohn your comments are now bordering on WP:LEGAL. Lara has been very civil and I think you need to cool it please. Pedro :  Chat  21:12, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Your buddy LaraLove has been pushing the false claim that there is some sort of legal issue here related to WP:BLP. You've got to be kidding that you think that I have threatened any sort of legal action here, which is what WP:LEGAL addresses, clearly stating "Do not make legal threats on Wikipedia." Are you actually claiming that this is what you think is going on? That this is coming from someone who is a Wikipedia administrator only makes the claim utterly unbelieveable. Alansohn (talk) 21:17, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
1) "Do you truly believe that you are protecting Wikipedia or do you have another agenda to prevent information that you feel is negative from appearing in this article.." is borderline. Words like "has ever been successfully sued for using a quote" is also borderline. 2) Lara and I are a long, long way from being buddies - we've had mega bust ups in the past - but that does not prevent me from commenting for what is right. 3) The point is that Lara has been deeply civil and accomodating here, and you have not been. 4) With WP:BLP caution is the watchword. Administrators, of which Lara is a fine and capabal one, are entrusted to use that caution. Pedro :  Chat  21:30, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Thank you, Pedro.
Alansohn, you still don't get it. "If an allegation or incident is notable, relevant, and well-documented by reliable published sources, it belongs in the article — even if it's negative and the subject dislikes all mention of it." So true. However, it must be in context. Unless I have missed something, your alternative is an entire section devoted to this one quote. The way you had it was out of context and made him appear as if he was speaking of the country as a whole and not just his captors. I have gone over this ad nauseam. It is then a BLP issue because you are misrepresenting him and his comments. Not to mention, this quote is not even necessary. As I noted, it's not a shocker to find out that he harbors negative feelings toward the people who tortured him. So just say that he's commented on it and cite the movie as the reference. Or use my alternative presented on the talk page or something close. But stop running around in circles because this is seriously the last time I repeat myself. The quote will not be in the article out of context, and without consensus there will not be an entire section in a short article devoted to such an insignificant detail. Outside view requested

Two months ago, someone suggested that I try to create a GA-worthy article. I waited until I happened upon a topic that was worthy of an article but which surprised me because one did not already exist. Having worked on the article, I would appreciate an outside opinion from someone who has nothing to do with the comics articles but is very knowledgeable with regard to GA articles. If you don't mind, would you please take a glance at The Reign of the Superman? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Doczilla (talk) 08:49, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

let me rewind. before that i was bringing an article to GA. i was doing good at that shit.

then i voted at Gig's RfA. the chronology is seemingly not consequential. these peeps are not my gang, they are neighbors. im leik not in a gang, but we all have orange county tacked on us so it's a gang, but it's not that bad. im not a gangster, just it a gang. see? ok so they are bangers too. that makes sense. we are notbad. but my guitar is teh good.

then i came here, and now im typing, regretting bothereing you with this whole thing, but then i think, hmmmm. cant be that bad. cuz can this be that bad? then i think, ill wake up and think OMG? BUT:

No more OMG. No more WTF? Just 5am and just, for some reason, lettin you know how my night was. thats it. its cool can i block dis copycat sig? o but i forgot. deja vu. fuck. i hate that. that chick i was tellin you about. she is into me, cuz she told me. so thats good. too long single, right? but yer advice is good cuz yer always right, and she likes me and even though we have been talking, liek i told you, she went to the trouble of putting somethin in the mail for me. i thin its the first time in my leif that i want someone to have my babies? is this long? ya. it is. shit ill be asleep till march. ahh. but hey, at least im loved, and this chick, was even liek, i have an account on wikipedia. for realz? its funny cuz she thinks i have a 'california' accent. which is bullshit. whatev.dood. im srs, whatev. im gonna talk to her laters today, so i will let you know. fingers croseed? the_undertow talk 12:44, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

OMG, d0od, you're too funny... haha. Never regret drunk dialing my talk page, 'cause this shitz is funneh as hellz. Makes my mornings. So okay, I've never heard of the game before, but it sounds like fun, with the Adolph Hilters and Backstreet Boys. Good times. Uhm, would the GA be the one listed in the section above this? Or are you talking about Knitta? Haha. I haven't stalked your contribs yet, but I'm sure I'll figure it out when I do.
So, yea... I'll skip the gang shitz, I already be knowin' all dat. And, as for the chick, I told you she liked you. It's obvious. And hopefully you don't sleep until March... then you wouldn't be able to talk to her tonight, so that would defeat the purpose of sleeping with your fingers crossed, which I'm sure is kind of painful. So, is this account a vandal account, because that would be like forbidden love. An admin and a vandal... bad teims! Oh, and just an FYI, you live in Orange County, California and have for liek ever, so I'd have to say you do have a Cali accent. Just sayin'. Good luck. I hope it all works out with you and her.

Protection

Hi Lara. You're currently protecting your user page with cascading on, and this might unnecessarily or unintentionally protect pages you're currently transcluding on there, including User:StatusBot/Status/LaraLove, which will disallow the bot to update it. Just letting you know. Cheers, Spebi 07:47, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi :) I am taking the liberty to remove the cascading, since it effectively cascades templates that are outside your userspace (Template:User borderline and User:StatusBot/Template). I fear you'll have to protect everything by hand (that's the safest). Regards, -- lucasbfr ho ho ho 12:57, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
Eep, thanks. The point was to protect everything, but I didn't realize it would cause issues. It's no big deal. I'm typically not a target of vandalism, but one established user is apparently pissed with me and feels the need to mess with my stuff. Thanks for fixing it. LaraLove 14:18, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

You added the brc to the protection cat, so i went ahead and protected the page. I don't see any reason why it needs to be edited by anyone other than yourself. Feel free to change to a diff level, if you see fit. Night the_undertow talk 08:29, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. It was protected via my userpage with cascading enabled, but, as you can see above, I fucked up other things with that. Learn something new everyday, reason 2 3 of why I love this place. Am I hearing this correctly?

This guy Hiroki is talking on the phone to someone in Japan. I can't understand shit, you know, not speaking Chinese an all, and out of the blue I hear, "Ya. Ya. Jimmy Page's autograph!" Do you think I just started understanding Korean, or was he speaking English, or is this some weird coincidence? chip talk 20:16, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

That is the most random shit. First of all, is it Japanese, Chinese or Korean? This is important for me to know before I can judge. Names don't change, okay? I mean, 'cause I hear the Mexicans at work talking shit about people and they always leave the English name. "Ya" is the Asian equivalent of "yes", I know this from watching Heroes. So, sorry to break the news, but you're no phenomenon, Juan Travolto. LaraLove 20:55, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
LaraLove, I'm Korean, and I don't think that's true! People say "Ya" when they are addressing someone informally in Korea.. Happy New Year's by the way. And thank you for your help in the RfC which brought the article Asian fetish to other editors' attention. миражinred 04:06, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Ha, I was just being facetious, lol. But, yea, no problem. Glad to help. LaraLove 05:51, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Happy 2008!

Hey-ya, Sorry for my absence, I've been kicking around on a (well-deserved) holiday:). Hmmm, not sure as to why the thing covers then other thing on my page, it shows up fine on FireFox 2? Pfft, I'm lazy, you can fix it if you want or just have the userbox. Duuude, IRC confuses the hell out of me - have been on once though, so many freak-outs. The Bathrobe Cabal is coming along really well, when did we get a URL?

What did you end up doing for NYE?
