Changes made to an FP candidacy in which you voted

[edit]

Although this message concerns a current FPC, I would like to first disclaim that I am not canvassing votes (at least not intentionally).

Anyway, you opposed this nom on the grounds that it was not encyclopedic with respect to the Parthenon. I have since added the picture to ruins and Classical Greece, citing that the picture makes significant contributions to those articles. Several other users agree that it is especially relevant and powerful in this new context. If you like, please see for yourself. I would ask that you please revisit and review the FPC nom, consider the picture's enc. value in its new context, and update your vote to address this change.

Much appreciated, and sorry if I was wrong in sending this message. --Malachirality 00:05, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cut-and-paste moves

[edit]

Re this note you left regarding this edit, please do not make cut-and-paste moves. Please use the move function, instead of copy-and-paste, when renaming a page. This avoids splitting the page history in several places. – Chacor 06:02, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The international reactions page on the coup in Thailand

[edit]

The Pakistan statement does not have a working link to the Pakstian country page here on Wikipedia. Seems to be something wrong with the country/flag template? Tried to fix it, no luck :/ It links to "islamic Pakistan" instead of just Pakistan.

RE: Hello again. I made a temp fix for this problem by redirecting the non-existing "Islamic Pakistan" page to the correct Pakistan page. Sorry, but my knowledge about editing templates is far from good. In reality it does not exist :) Yet.

Cleanup Lebanon

[edit]

Hi Iorek, Due to the heated atmosphere currently prevailing on the page, I would like to get your input on the need for cleanup. It seems that certain sections, especially "Initial reviews" and "Targets in civilian areas," have become particularly unwieldy, to that the extent there are several lines that are extremely repetetive in different sections, and many passages that I would argue are too detailed to be included in the main article, but which rather should remain (which is where I believe some of them were actually brought from) in the appropriate subarticles (Timeline, Military actions). I also feel that in some these cases the detail added leaned more to one side than another, but that is more of a secondary concern. Let me know what you think, TewfikTalk 00:58, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps you could evaluate the need to shorten the "Initial reviews" section as you did with the "Targets in civilian areas," as I don't want to do anything else that could be percieved as biased by other editors. Let me know either way. Cheers, TewfikTalk 05:12, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This case is now closed and the results have been published at the link above.

Put down the time machine and step away

[edit]

Tsk, tsk! With this edit you single handedly relocated the migration 110,000 people from 1948 to "following" events in 1971. I wouldn't mention it, and clearly no one caught it for two months, but I've been arguing from this number like it was the gospel truth with User:Tewfik for the past week. The horror... the horror! -- Kendrick7 00:08, 29 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Will's section

[edit]

Hi Iorek,

The reason that I removed the section Will added was that the link supplied (and currently referenced) was to an archived article. If you could confirm that it says what he claims that would be fine, but I'm uncomfortable with the way it stands now (where it seems to be unreferenced). Cheers, TewfikTalk 06:37, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

House

[edit]

If you really loved the idea of Wikipedia, you wouldn't randomly go and change an article without reading through the archives and knowing what you are talking about. Show me something official that refers to House with the "M.D." You can't because all official literature refers to it as "House". Text on a DVD cover does not equal a name change. Thanks for playing. Billywhack 10:35, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, have a Merry Christmas. Billywhack 07:45, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Once again, the last consensus reached was that it is no longer referred to with the "M.D." Just because the DVD case has something on it, does not make it the title of the show. Provide some official recognition of the name or I will have to go above you. --Billywhack 12:22, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You have shown no proof. This is because you have no proof. Saying there is text on a DVD case means that is the name of the show is such a huge fallacy that I can't believe you continue to rely on that. Also, IMDB is not run by the producers of the show nor Fox. It can also be modified by fans. Therefore, it is not acceptable by Wikipedia standards to use this as "proof". --Billywhack 12:51, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Do you understand that you just can't have any old thing that people call something in an article and say "also known as..."? Otherwise I could just edit George Bush's page and say "also known as Fuckin' Idiot and The Redneck That's President". --Billywhack 13:14, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Here is an example of something on the title screen that is actually the name of the show:250px--Billywhack 13:19, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Your argument fails to hold water. It is an example of a header or a prescription. What about the rectangle and the underline? Shouldn't those be included, by your claims? --Billywhack 07:09, 28 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your Rating

[edit]

Thank you for rating the Aquinas College, Perth article, although in part i do not agree with it, i am willing to accept it. Im just not quite sure what else can be done with this article, it has all of the information, sometimes in great detail. Where to go to now? Thanks. Smbarnzy 17:06, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning

[edit]

By persistently changing "citizen" to "civilian" (oblivious of sources) you have violated the Wikipedia:Three-revert rule as you have reverted that within 24 hours. Please note that your change deliberately attempts to compromise the integrity of the article, and as such is considered vandalism as well. As for the article, the latest findings from the Lebanese government has listed only 1) national soldiers, 2) policemen, and 3) "martyrs". I have chosen not to report you. Please be aware and edit responsibly. Thank you. --Shamir1 04:00, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually no, please read carefully. It says WITHIN 24 hours, not a calendar day. And yes, you reverted that sentence three times within 24 hours.

Good evening (GMT time); I have accepted the above case - requested by you - on behalf of the Mediation Cabal. I am prepared to commence mediation as soon as possible. I would like to start by enquiring if you wish for mediation to be conducted at the Mediation Cabal subpage, or on the article talk page.

Any further questions can be directed at my talkpage where I will happily answer, so long as it does not compromise my neutrality.

Kind regards,

Israel-Lebanon conflict

[edit]

Thanks! Hopefully it will let us organize a summary of the randomly placed casualty information together in one place, while letting us keep the infobox pithy. The other thing I noticed was there seems to be a lot of talk about allegations of war crimes committed by both sides in the article, but it is also pretty spread out (mostly in the Targetting of civilians section). What do you think about adding a section titled something like "Allegations of War Crimes", where we could organize the accusations made against both sides, and list the types of war crimes they were alleged to have committed? I think such a section would help consolidate the information spread throughout the article, similar to how the Casualties section has. — George Saliba [talk] 01:24, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good call. Afterall, I think the targetting of civilians is just one type of war crime. Just renaming this section, then cleaning up what is there (it can probably be cut down quite a bit), and adding other relevant information is probably a best bet. Not sure when I'll have time to get around to doing that, but thanks for your feedback. — George Saliba [talk] 04:05, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image notes on Jennifer Morrison

[edit]

You said: "Hi, I noticed you added the text "Promotional material from House is inappropriate and will result in an immediate block if used here." Seems a little harsh to me. I didn't think we blocked people for adding non vandalistic photos (non fair use or otherwise) on the first go, but you're an admin, and would know better than me. Is there new policy I've missed (not that I stay that up to date on policy)?"

In actuality, I think it would still be unfair to block someone on the first offence even if they are deliberately placing Wikipedia in legal jeopardy, as would be the case if they were deliberately adding an inappropriate image such as a House promotional image there. In truth, what I'm trying to do here is to come up with some wording that makes it clear to people that they are not to add such an image here. Every form of wording, including specifically noting "promotional images", has failed so far. I welcome suggestions for anything better. --Yamla 13:53, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Iorek85. Apparently I m dude2002 is quite unhappy with the results of his own sock puppetry case, and has decided to seek retaliation or something; I'm not really sure. In any event, sorry he dragged you into this. I highly doubt there's any way that our edit histories or styles of writing overlap, so I'm not too worried about it. Cheers. — George Saliba [talk] 20:03, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like there was an active admin around, who immediately saw this case for what it was, and closed it. — George Saliba [talk] 21:04, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. :) It's a good thing too I don't share your interest in popular television programs, since apparently having one article in common between our edit histories (on a combined 6,500 edits) was so very suspicious. :) — George Saliba [talk] 22:20, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

War title

[edit]

Two things. A dash (-) in a war title does mean "between." HOWEVER, all of the sources that I mentioned at the RfC use Israel-Hezbollah war, exactly (or the variations: Israel-Hizballah war, Israel-Hezbollah conflict, etc.). Please be more aware when making a comment. --Shamir1 02:39, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Believe me, I have been Google searching all those. First of all, that is a bad example to prove a point. After searching Israel-Lebanon war, the words that I searched for are mixed up in the given text, and are not written as a name for any war. Same with the others. That is why it is important to compile sources. Furthermore, I dont understand your point at the RfC, as you mentioned that you dont believe between = -, considering that issue was not brought up there. You also talk about many sources saying "...between...". Yes, that is true, but I wrote what each source says verbatim, so I dont see your point there either. --Shamir1 03:55, 15 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Francisco Gil-White mediation

[edit]

You may recall User:Ryan4, who repeatedly tried to spam links to http://www.hirhome.com to various Wikipedia articles - you tackled him about it on his user talk page (User talk:Ryan4#Stop spamming). He appears to have learned nothing from the experience and has now brought a mediation case, singling me out for some reason. See Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2007-03-31 ChrisO‎. Given your previous intervention in the matter, I've added you as an involved party. My response is at Wikipedia talk:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2007-03-31 ChrisO#ChrisO. Naturally I think the whole thing's a waste of time and I'm encouraging the mediator to dump it on the grounds of Ryan4's bad faith, but it would be helpful if you could add a comment or two so that we can have a record of where things stand. Unfortunately I don't think this will be the last we'll hear from the hirhome fan club - Ryan4 now appears to be coordinating with fellow hirhomers. -- ChrisO 18:46, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

basic bmx moves only?

[edit]

I'm not really sure how talk pages work... but anyways, I think more "advanced" things like flairs should stay in the tricks list. I mean, frontflips are still on there, and I think more people can flair than frontflip. Flairs are a staple trick, and newer riders should be able to go on the freestyle page and find out what exactly a flair is. Some more confusing terms like truckdrivers vs busdrivers, half cabs vs full cabs, turndowns vs lookbacks, or tables vs inverts should be included on the page, because it can be hard to tell the tricks/terms apart.

I answered some misunderstandings on talk. Other than that issue, I would like to address others with you.

"But I do think this is a perfectly valid term that follows the conventions set forth in the 1982 Lebanon War, and is a perfectly accurate description for now. If a later consensus emerges, I'll be happy to change it. If that name is the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war, I will support it. But for now I don't think there is a consensus, or that the majority of people call it that."

Write before you made this statement, you noted that some wars are called this, others that, and neither proves anything. (Finally, someone else says it.) There are no conventions set forth for this war, that is a totally different war. Yes it involved some of the same combatants but it was a totally different war. Also, it seems that you say your vote will go to whoever. Israel-Hezbollah war is this closest we have to consensus in the outside world. There will not be consensus here on Wikipedia, now or ever, I can assure you that. But the sources nonetheless have a voice, much louder than ours. You said you do not think "that the majority of people call it that." In that case, find a source. Please. I dont see why BBC would call it that when they survey the general public if they didnt see it as the most identifiable term. Of course, I am not going to even mention the other sources that I brought up--all very strong.

I am not trying to convince you, I ask that you take the sources into consideration. I dont appreciate that after all of the searching I have done, that people object for the reason that it is not what they personally would call it. You and I know as Wikipedians that that is not serious. --Shamir1 17:23, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Shamir1 has opened a medation request for renaming the 2006 Lebanon War article to 2006 Israel-Hezbollah War. As someone who was involved in previous discussions on the topic, I thought you may want to join in. Cheers. — George [talk] 23:01, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing. Btw, the dispute mediator, Daniel, has asked the involved parties to agree or disagree to the mediation on the mediation page. Cheers. — George [talk] 08:34, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just passed by your comment from June 13. Very frankly, Iorek85, I really consider you a much better editor than one who would make such an unneeded comment. If you didn't get it by the end of that discussion, I hope you now get this idea. Picking up a single The Australian news article really does not make any difference, especially since it is out of the text. It would be like changing Virginia Tech massacre to US university shooting just because of something like this. Iorek85, I did a lot more research than that. --Shamir1 22:33, 6 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Retrospect on editing 2006 Lebanon War

[edit]

I'm researching the history of the wiki entry for the 2006 Lebanon War for a college course and wanted to know your thoughts on the history of creating the article. You are the user with the second most edits for the article and looking back through your talk history, I can see that you have been awarded from other Wiki users for your neutrality. I was wondering if you could give a little insight into the whole process:

  • What personal experiences, background, etc. has made you interested in editing such pages like the 2006 Lebanon War?
  • Were you editing this specific pages as news was reported or did you turn to the discussion board before making direct changes?
  • What sort of page vandalism did you notice as the article progressed?
  • What was most upsetting about the edit wars going on with this page?
  • Do you think this article is a good example of neutrality?

I'd love for your candidness on this topic, so please feel free to email me Special:EmailUser/Titkos27 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Titkos27 (talkcontribs) 03:11, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
