Sesame oil[edit]

First of all, I don't have any problems with the article being a part of WP:INTN. But then, is it mentioned prominently anywhere in the article that Tamil Nadu is the largest producer of sesame oil. Also, I feel that it should contain a picture of sesame plantations in Tamil Nadu or something of that sort in order to be associated with the project. ParAccel[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

The article ParAccel has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done because the article, which appeared to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, did not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the notability of the subject may be deleted at any time. If you can indicate why the subject is really notable, you are free to re-create the article, making sure to cite any verifiable sources.

Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and for specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for musicians, or for companies. AfD nomination of Expressor[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Expressor. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Expressor. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:04, 4 December 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:ChittiBabu Telugu Actor.jpg[edit]

A tag has been placed on File:ChittiBabu Telugu Actor.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Replaceable fair use File:New alignment for Chennai Monorail Feb-2014.jpg[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

Thanks for uploading File:New alignment for Chennai Monorail Feb-2014.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 23:00, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Protist[edit]

Hi, J mareesaran. I appreciate what you're trying to with the lede to Protist. However, your edits add new problems to an already confusing article. In its previous form, the introductory paragraph cavilled at the validity of "Protista" as a kingdom before providing a simple and clear introduction to the diverse group of eukaryotes known (and widely taught and studied) as "protists". The changes you've made have actually compounded this problem, by focusing on the status of the taxon instead of the widespread informal use of the term "protist" as a rough equivalent to "eukaryotic microorganism."

The formal taxon does have to be addressed in the article. However, I see no reason to raise the subject of Cavalier-Smith’s Chromista and Protozoa in the opening paragraph, as if his system were especially representative of "modern" classification. The ISOP scheme (Adl et al. 2012) has been more influential, and, as a purely cladistic system with no paraphyletic groupings, is arguably more “modern”. Your characterization of the composition of kingdoms Protozoa and Chromista is quite misleading: they are not defined by the inclusion or exclusion of "Algae" (a taxonomically meaningless term, comprising a wide variety of separate lineages). For instance, Euglenozoa ("algae," in the traditional sense) are included in his definition of Protozoa, while the green algae (Chlorophytes, Charophytes) are grouped separately under Kingdom Plantae; and the heterotrophic ciliates and apicomplexa (not "algae" at all) are placed in his Kingdom Chromista. These groups are defined by hypothetical ancestral acquisition of various plastids through primary or secondary endosymbiosis. The paraphyletic kingdom Protozoa also arbitrarily excludes metazoa and fungi (Cavalier-Smith is an “evolutionary” taxonomist, not a strict cladist).

It's tangled stuff, and the lede to an article about a completely different group is not a good place to open this can of worms!

Anyway, the supposed "obsolescence" of Protista is a bit of a red herring, I think. The taxon is still widely used in the professional literature (arguably it should be retired, but that is not for Wikipedia to decide). The distinction between "old / early" and "modern" classification schemes is not particularly meaningful, since older taxonomies are not necessarily displaced by newer ones. Use of Protista in academic articles may be in decline (although it appeared in about a thousand articles, last year). Use of Cavalier-Smith's latest version of Protozoa remains spotty, although that may change (Ruggiero et al. was published less than a year ago and still has only a dozen citations). It would be more accurate to distinguish between phenetic, evolutionary and cladistic taxonomies. But again, the lede is not a good place to get into technical details.

So, unless you object, I’d like to revert these edits. I’m willing to rewrite the lede, when time permits, but don’t want to get into an editorial tug-of-war! Deuterostome (talk) 13:06, 26 February 2016 (UTC)

I have replied in your talk page J mareeswaran (talk) 14:01, 26 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. I think I see the source of the misunderstanding. You are quite right that "the concept of Kingdoms is not as relevant today as Clades". However, Cavalier-Smith's Protozoa is not a clade, and his 7-kingdom scheme (advanced in Ruggiero et al, 2015) is not a cladistic system (they are very clear about their acceptance of paraphyletic taxa). So, as an explicitly paraphyletic grouping, Protozoa sensu Cavalier-Smith certainly does "impinge" on "clade style classification." As it happens, there is no cladistic equivalent to the taxon Protista, a group which spans the entire eukaryotic tree of life. Indeed, the nearest cladistic equivalent would be Eukaryota itself! In cladistic classification, the contents of Protista are distributed among various supergroups (SAR, Archaeplastida, Opisthokonta, etc.) and neither "protists" nor "protozoa" are mentioned at all.
I'll rewrite the lede with an emphasis on the widespread use of (lower case) "protists" as an informal category of convenience made up of eukaryotes that are not animals, plants or fungi. Of course, I'll mention the fact that the old kingdom Protista is not a clade, but see no reason to mention kingdom Protozoa (which I covered when rewriting the Protozoa article last year). Deuterostome (talk) 15:17, 26 February 2016 (UTC)
I see you've made some more changes to the Protist pages, partly drawing on my comments here. Unfortunately, while fixing some of the problems with the lede, you've introduced new ones. In a note, you suggest that Cavalier-Smith's Chromista and Protozoa are a product of phenetic taxonomy. They are certainly not! He is a phylogenetic taxonomist, though he seems to lean toward the "evolutionary" school, which tolerates paraphyly. Chromista--which contains many heterotrophs as well as traditional algae--has been proposed as a monophyletic clade; whereas Protozoa is explicitly, and by definition, paraphyletic.
The claim that Protista was used "till the early 90s" is simply untrue. As I've pointed out--and a search in Google Scholar will confirm--it is still widely used, and has appeared in over a thousand scientific articles since last year. Many of these articles feature Protista in their titles (it is customary to include parenthetical high-level classifications in titles of articles about particular organisms).
But, while formal uses of Protista remain fairly common, the informal use of "protists" is the dominant one, and I think it should be the main focus of the lede. (Have a look at the algae article, to see how the editors solved a very similar problem). We need to begin by saying that protists are an informal grouping of eukaryotic organisms that are not animals, plants or fungi. They do not form a natural group, or clade, but are often grouped together for convenience, like algae or vertebrates. After having said something along those lines, we can go on to say something like: In some systems of biological classification, such as the influential 5-kingdom scheme proposed by Robert Whittaker in 1969, the protists make up a kingdom called Protista, composed of "organisms which are unicellular or unicellular-colonial and which form no tissues." (Further details about the formal classification can be provided in the Classification section). Deuterostome (talk) 20:12, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
It's better, I think...and thanks for your patience. There are still some things I'd like to change in the latter half of the section, but I'll come back to it when I have a bit more time.Deuterostome (talk) 21:02, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

All prose content must be written from scratch in your own words, not copied or even closely paraphrased from other sources. Also, why are you focusing on nett when all the other film articles across the project detail the gross values? Mixing up all different sorts of financial figures makes it very difficult to compare and contrast one film with another. Maybe instead of copying, a little more circumspection about the content you are adding might be warranted in the future. Thank you. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 22:42, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi again, re: your query on my talk page, I'm responding here, because I think it's best to keep the discussion in one place.
Regardless of how you personally justify taking someone's words from place A and presenting them as unique thought in place B, the act is academically and intellectually dishonest, and people get kicked out of school and lose their careers over it. As they should. Wikipedia has no tolerance for it, and it could present legal liabilities for them.
Moving along, in film articles, the typical figures we care about are a film's budget and gross. In box office sections, "box office" refers to money made selling tickets, or gross. So coverage in this section should be about gross figures, not about nett, not about nett gross, not about entertainment taxes, not about satellite rights and music rights sales. There might occasionally be a reason to include some of this information in an article, but that would typically only be if it were some significant event that gained widespread attention from reliable published sources. (Film X did USD$2.2 billion in merchandising. Film Y was hit for the most entertainment taxes of any Indian film.) Some Indian trade rags tend to over-focus on these details without reason, and by extension, many editors start to parrot those behaviors and add the content here. "Oh, the distributor's share information from Chennai is in! Gotta add it to the article." It's especially problematic when the box office section gets jumbled up with all these different figures. "The film grossed 12 crore on its first day, then netted 6 crore and 4 crore on days 2 and three respectively." These are apples to oranges comparisons. We're only here to present the broad strokes of a film's financial performance, not to log every detail like accountants. And, as I'm sure you know, Indian film financial data is all estimates, since there is no reliable central auditing like you might find with BoxOfficeMojo. That means that all financial information should be treated with circumspection, not swallowed as indisputable law. And, if you plan to edit film articles, you will find our Manual of Style for Film articles invaluable, as it represents widespread community consensus for the sort of content that should appear in articles. Hope that helps. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:43, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb: there is a difference between repeating somebody's analysis & reporting news. I know that difference; not sure if you do. J mareeswaran (talk) 06:09, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb: as I said earlier the article already has the term nett in it(when reporting box office figures). I didn't add that. You may want to correct that. J mareeswaran (talk) 06:09, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for March 10[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Protist, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Host. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Planet Nine[edit]

Is this sentence you added to the Planet Nine article "The mass and orbit of Planet Nine, likely, places the stable perihilion at q ∼ 40AU for distant particles (a > 250AU), close to the observed sample. ref name="Hadden_etal_2017" a reference to this statement "Figure 14 demonstrates that our fiducial choice of Planet Nine’s mass an orbit places the equilibrium at q ∼ 40AU for distant particles, close to perihelion distances of the observational sample of clustered ESDOs" in the second to last paragraph of page 22 of Hadden_etal_2017?

Figure 14 and section 4.6, where it is first mentioned, focus on objects with a>1000 AU, of which there is only one observe object 2014 FE72. At smaller semimajor axes this equilibrium point is at larger perihelion, see figure 16 of https://arxiv.org/pdf/1707.01379.pdf (antialigned objects are a Δω bar = π/2 in that figure). Disambiguation link notification for March 10[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Rani Padmini, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Padmini (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
