Autopatrolled

Have you considered applying for the WP:Autopatrolled permission? You have a demonstrated understanding of Wikipedia’s policies, so your articles do not need to be placed in the queue at Wikipedia:New pages patrol. Billhpike (talk) 18:35, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

Hello JaconaFrere -- What was your reference for historically segregated for this school? I am replacing all the categories with | statename. I hope you have a nice New Years. Rhadow (talk) 12:36, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

@user:Rhadow...I'm not sure what reference I was using; there are loads that come up on google. This one [1] mentions she became principal at Pompano Colored School in 1923 and the rebuilding of the school (and naming as Blanche Ely) in 1954, and

this one This one has some additional useful information about her battles with the school board, and how they (probably in spite) removed her first name from the school in 1970. [2]. It also mentions Pompano Migrant School, and the Black historical museum located in her house.Jacona (talk) 16:54, 2 January 2018 (UTC)

Autopatrolled granted

Hi JaconaFrere, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! TonyBallioni (talk) 17:16, 2 January 2018 (UTC)

Access to Databases

I saw your comment about access to paywalled database. Where you aware that wikipedia has program to give editors access to paywalled databases. See Wikipedia:The Wikipedia Library. You may wish to apply. I've used WP:Newspapers.com to find sources for a lot of articles on segregation academies. Billhpike (talk) 18:23, 5 January 2018 (UTC)

Thanks so much User:Billhpike. I've applied for access to newspapers, newspaperarchive and JSTOR. I expect this to be highly useful! Jacona (talk) 20:18, 5 January 2018 (UTC)

Lynchings

On User:Deisenbe/sandbox I’ve started a table of lynchings. Would you like to work on it?

Hello Deisenbe -- I am interested to work with you, not on content, but on the mechanical details of the table. There HAS to be an easier way to edit tabular data than hand-typing html. Rhadow (talk) 14:51, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

  • Yes, definitely, but I may be weakly involved at first; I have to tend to other business. I think before getting started, there needs to be a firm definition of lynching. There are many lists of lynchings online that are very helpful, but it is interesting that historical inaccuracies have been perpetuated for over 100 years. For instance, "Europa, Mississippi" and "Starkesville, Mississippi" are Eupora and Starkville, G.W. Edd and George Somerville are garbled (I'm uncertain they are two people, but it is very possible they are) and there are many unnamed victims. Researchers are continually learning of additional unlisted victims, for instance, somerville is not reported on any list I've seen, but is in newspaper sources, which is why I think Edd may be the same person. Sources indicate some other men were lynched for the same crime, so Edd may be one of them. But I digress, YES, I will help! And I have some excellent sources, for instance, I have a copy of the book Red Summer, I will start there, listing people, places, dates, and page numbers.Jacona (talk) 15:24, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
    • By the way, make no mistake this is a huge project that will never be completed.Jacona (talk) 15:26, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
      • Deisenbe, Rhadow, rather than the sandbox, could we set up a new page in user space? If you want, I can do this.Jacona (talk) 15:33, 11 January 2018 (UTC)

477 users watching

Of that I have no doubt, but the user in question has continued to follow me to articles where I am in dispute over an edit ro whatever, and they start up the poop-slinging about how I'mm All Teh Debbil and whatever. It has happened enough that I have noticed it, and the user has an apparent history with others of the same sort of behavior. So, while the uninvolved person might have 477 users, I am fairly certain that every article where the stalker-y person shows up isn't composed of the same 477 users, right? - Jack Sebastian (talk) 20:03, 20 April 2018 (UTC)

I sent him that he is wrong but he is unwilling to understand. He just deleted many things I edited. I referred uww official page. Hello

Just a note to tell you that on those (hopefully rare) times when I oppose you on a talk page does not mean I do not respect you as a fabulous editor, which you are. I've been struggling all week to keep Shooting of Jacob Blake "just the facts", but the topic is very upsetting to many, and will unfortunately bring more division. All the best and thanks for understanding. Magnolia677 (talk) 17:54, 29 August 2020 (UTC)

Thanks. I don't even see that as a disagreement, I should have expounded a bit more. I really wanted to bring up the line-of-fire thought processes, I think that will become important as time goes on. But, your edit summary: Discretionary sanction templates given to an experienced editor is a passive-aggressive act of incivility. As you are quite experienced, I'm sure you know that. Please treat others as you would like to be treated is wrong and a personal attack. Further, your edit [3] calling good faith editors "haters" is a serious personal attack and lack of good faith. WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Removal of content

Hello, I saw you reverted some edits I made. I am sorry for not explaining on all the pages. I believe that the quotes are undue weight and not needed due to not being addressed to an individual congressman, but instead to them as a whole. Given that no attempt was made to unseat them I especially found the second one unneeded. I hope this explains it. 3Kingdoms (talk) 20:03, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

3Kingdoms, first, I apologize that now this discussion is getting scattered on multiple talk pages. Second, I do see that you have a good point about there not actually being an attempt to unseat the representatives. Perhaps the information could be expanded on to include this? DYK for William Riedell

On 30 May 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article William Riedell, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that shortly before sports shooter William Riedell was to compete in the 1936 Olympics, he had his pistols confiscated by the police because the precinct chief had decided there were "too many guns"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/William Riedell. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, William Riedell), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Alpha Mom (TV series)

Since you deprodded Alpha Mom (TV series), I'm convinced it might be a WP:HOAX. IMDb claims Preston Bailey was on the show, but I get no results whatsoever on GNews, Newspapers.com, GBooks, or ProQuest for that pairing. Everything that does come up is just IMDb, Wikipedia mirrors, or websites that aggregate content from IMDb. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 14:29, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Wrong school

It's going back a while, but in this edit you seem to have added content about the wrong school - the FA in Leesburg, not the one in Orlando. I've just removed it, but if you wanted to find the corresponding info for the Orlando school you might like to add it. (I checked it because I was surprised the student number was only 522 when it was shown as 1400, now updated to the "over 1250" from the school website. I wondered whether it was high-school years only or something like that... then realised there were two schools). Happy Editing! PamD 13:57, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

Notice

The article Troy Neal has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable football player, no evidence he ever saw NFL time. No NFL.com page, no pro-football-reference listing (or any other stat site), no mention in any of our 70s Jets articles. If we can't even get a specific season he supposedly played in, the odds are he's not notable and was just a practice squad guy.

Thankyou for your comment on my talk page

I appreciate your comment on my talk page. I tried to take what you said into account with my editing on Moulton-Udell High School. I have to admit my experience with high school articles tells me one big thing, the rule that we could basically keep any high school that we could verify lead to people creating articles with just enough sources to verrify. Many of these high schools can be much better sourced, but creators will often create articles at the bare minimum. It has proven that when the subjects are not of wide interest, often no one else bothers editing the article at all ever.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:17, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

  • My view is a good article on a high school would at least tell us when that high school was founded. There may be a few high schools that are well sourced but the exact answer to that question is buried in the mists of time, but those are rare. I also think some high school articles end up being too myopically focused on a building instead of the larger history of education in a place. Having taught at some small charter high schools, I am convinced that not every place that operates as a high school is notable. That said, I also know that a whole lot of high schools there are a lot more sources on. The high school I went to Sterling Heights High School as a fairly low sourced article. I know the local county wide daily paper ahs mentioned and given at least brief coverage to the school over the years. I think in about 1994 that paper, the Macomb Daily, ran an article on ethnic diversity at that high school. I am sure if someone searched through the Macomb Daily Archives they would come up with more sourcing. I am sure the Detroit News and Detroit Free Press have made mentions over time that could also be used to better build the article. I am also sure we have articles on schools that cannot be expanded, but they may well be outnumbered by articles on schools that are not well written but could be expanded.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:26, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
@John Pack Lambert, Thanks for responding! I agree we have a lot of articles we don't need. Through redirection, prod, and AfD, I've gotten rid of over 1000 middle school articles. The key to succeeding is to be patient. Do a few, and wait for them to be completed rather than doing them all at once and raising opposition. That way you will also learn as you go about what consensus really is. As far as these high school articles, most of the recent nominations have chosen very old and sometimes very large high schools. Common sense tells me that the older the school, the more likely there will be sources. The larger, the more likely there will be sources. Using cues like that, I wouldn't bother trying to delete them. If I want to clean them up, I will do so through fixing it myself or by collaboration, getting others to participate in a friendly manner (notifications, questions), not by trying to force or coerce them to do the work by threat of deletion. It's usually not going to work well, and no one will be happy. Cheers! Jacona (talk) 13:27, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
    • Sterling Heights High School is one of very few high school articles I have nominated for deletion. It only dates to 1971, so it is not that old, but still older than some. The school I had in mind that lacks an article was Hope of Detroit Academy, which is actually a pre-K to 12 2 campus (but only like a block apart) charter school. It is maybe 15 years old, and while I always thought Sterling Heights High Schools 1500 students when I was there was a little on the small side (it peaked at 2400 in about 1982, I graduated in 1999), Hope of Detorit I believe had well under 500. Then there are schools like Chadsey High School, which I think has enough current sources but it could be improved. Why though do we have an enrollment figure on a school that not only was closed but was torn down? That seems very odd indeed.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:33, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
  • Crockett High School (Michigan) is a school I have to wonder if it actually meets inclusion criteria. First off, it existed only about 18 years. Secondaly, it was not a regular school, but a vocational one. The main source seems to be basically discussing the oddity of doing major improvements on the building shortly before it was close, in the context of multiple school buildings in Detroit that had this happen to them. There may be more sources, but this seems a high probability candidate for being in the end not notable.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:39, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
There are lots of articles with very very little to go on. I look at Moulton-Udell High School, Trinity Christian High School (Lubbock, Texas), and others and think...Sure, the article doesn't have a lot of SIGCOV. It may have it because it's old, but it's small so maybe not...and then I decide I can just leave it alone. It doesn't matter if Wikipedia has a slightly-less-sourced but notable high school. It doesn't matter much to me if some barely-notable school is deleted. So I leave that to people who are more likely to have integral knowledge. I don't know everything. I'm not the expert of everything. Wikipedia will go on with or without these articles and with or without me. I am not the Wikipedia Messiah, nor is any one of us. Focus on what really matters, not the edges. If you think it might be notable, just walk away. Jacona (talk) 14:21, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:26, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on 97.112.243.25 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Fram (talk) 15:17, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Who's Who

Hi. I just spotted your comment on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eric Blackburn Bradbury. The answer is no, the original British Who's Who does not charge a fee or solicit entries. People are selected for their notability and invited to submit an entry. They are not charged for doing so and they cannot apply to have an entry. A number of other publications with similar names are paid directories, but the British one is not. It has been a standard and respected biographical reference work in the UK for well over a century. It has not always been considered a reliable source on Wikipedia because its entries are self-written (most are accurate, but a small minority contain exaggerated claims), but it is a reliable source for notability. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:21, 14 March 2023 (UTC)

If I've misjudged, I apologize a second time, and will revert my edit if you so wish. – .Raven  .talk 16:43, 23 May 2023 (UTC)

L. Q.

Hi, Jacona, I've found quite a bit to add to Lynching of L. Q. Ivy. I thing it still needs attention to the transitions, as some of the quotes just seem to be plopped down without linkage from one idea to the next— see what you think. Thanks again for pointing me to this article, as it is relevant today to racism issues we still need to understand. — Grand'mere Eugene (talk) 00:48, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

It takes two to edit war

If you would quit reverting my edits I wouldn't have to keep unreverting them. Whether the demographics are accurate is irrelevant, demographics don't go in the main body of the description and have always had their own sub-section in any article. 97.112.217.211 (talk) 20:15, 29 October 2022 (UTC)

it’s not just me, a total of 4 editors have recently reverted your edit. When everyone disagrees with you, do you think it’s possible that the problem might not be everybody else? Jacona (talk) 00:48, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

Headache

I have a severe headache today. I have seen some (ill)logic that seems more annoying than it should be, so I think I will bug off for a while. I apologize if I have seemed rude. — Jacona (talk) 16:00, 7 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Jacona,

Just a reminder, please include a signature with comments on deletion discussions. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 04:13, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Liz, oops! Didn’t realize I’d missed one. Thanks. — Jacona (talk) 11:03, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Heartland Christian Academy

I don't do barnstars, so this is a shout-out saying well done on expanding the Heartland Christian Academy page. The deletion seemed unwarranted, and I had kept a tab open expecting to come back fill in the cites you found. When I looked today you had already done it. Hopefully that does the job. RfC revert

Why did you revert my comment on the RfC here? [4] Ecrusized (talk) 17:08, 17 October 2023 (UTC)

Ecrusized, Wow, I had no idea I even visited the page. I just started using Huggle, an anti-vandalism tool - somehow this revert happened. I'll be carefully looking through my edits to see if anything else like this occurred. My apologies! — Jacona (talk) 17:37, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
No worries, thanks for providing an explanation. Ecrusized (talk) 17:38, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
Ecrusized, It doesn't look like it was Huggle, but rather a fat-finger mobile edit. In either case, I didn't even realize I'd visited that page. You have my sincere apologies, and thanks for being understanding! — Jacona (talk) 17:42, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
