This is the third newsletter sent by mass mail to members in Wikipedia:WikiProject Genealogy, to everyone who voted a support for establishing a potential Wikimedia genealogy project on meta, and anyone who during the years showed an interest in genealogy on talk pages and likewise.

Request:

In order to improve communication between genealogy interested wikipedians, as well as taking new, important steps towards a creation of a new project site, we need to make communication between the users easier and more effective.

At Mail list on meta is discussed the possibility of creating a genealogy-related Wikimedia email list. In order to request the creation of such a list, we need your voice and your vote.

In order to create a new list, we need to put a request it in Phabricator, and add a link to reasoning/explanation of purpose, and link to community consensus. Therefore we need your vote for this now, so we can request the creation of the mail list.

Read more about this email list at Meta; Wikimedia genealogy project mail list where you can support the creation of the mail list with your vote, in case you haven't done so already.

Future:

Hi Jakob[edit]

Welcome back Jakob Coles. I noticed this new account while I was scrolling through GA nomination Talk:Meadow Brook (Lackawanna River). If you don't want the admin tools, maybe you should notify WP:BN. It's not like you're hiding; you have your own reasons for the new account name. But you really should formally get the old account taken care of. Wikipedia is treating it as an active account and I think there is the possibility of confusion later down the line. Anyway, good luck. — Maile (talk) 00:03, 25 March 2017 (UTC)

@Maile66: Thanks for the welcome. Seeing as I don't have the password anymore, what do you recommend be done with the old account. (I may have mentioned, but I'm no longer particularly interested in adminship.) Jakob (talk) 02:41, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
I think the recommended procedure is to post at WP:BN and let them deal with the de-admin under the old account names. One thing that comes to mind is some hacker getting the tools and committing hanky-panky under your old name. Best wishes for your path forward. May you have nothing but blue skies ahead. — Maile (talk) 11:20, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

A page you started (Kasson Brook) has been reviewed![edit]

Thanks for creating Kasson Brook, Jakob Coles!

Wikipedia editor Boleyn just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

Thanks for creating this. You've created 12 good articles, and once they're created, they go through review at New Page Patrol. Yours are too good to add to the large backlog there. Once you've created 25 articles, can you please go to WP:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled and ask for your articles to be autopatrolled? This will cut the backlog and mean your articles go straight onto Google instead of waiting up to 90 days.

To reply, leave a comment on Boleyn's talk page.

Question[edit]

Hi Jakob. I was following the recent thread at WP:BN with interest, and a thought struck me. As Jakec, did you ever use Special:EmailUser/Oversight to send an email to the oversight team (User:Oversight)? (If you've ever requested oversight before, this is probably how you did it.) If so, we may be able to link your two accounts definitively if you still have access to the email address you used as Jakec. Mz7 (talk) 05:59, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

@Mz7: I have in fact emailed the oversight team a few times. Jakob (talk) 01:26, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
@Jakob Coles: Go through your email's archive and see if you can find any responses from the oversight team. In the subject bar of the email there should be a 16-digit OTRS ticket number in brackets, e.g. [Ticket#1234567890123456]. Send an email with the same email address to the functionaries mailing list (functionaries-en@lists.wikimedia.org) mentioning this ticket number and ask for a member of the oversight team to compare the email address listed in the OTRS ticket to the email you are currently using. If they match, they should be able to make an official statement over at WP:BN verifying that your two accounts are linked. The reason this works is because when you used Special:EmailUser/Oversight, the email was sent by the MediaWiki software under your Jakec Wikipedia account, not by your email client. As a result, the oversighters should be able to check the email headers and verify that the Jakec account used the same email address as you are now. Mz7 (talk) 06:24, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
