Concordia Newsletter[edit]

NEWSLETTER

Concordia is currently trying to relaunch. I, and all the members of the ex-council, wish to welcome new members to the group. We are a group who aim to promote remaining civil, in an environment where messages can easily be interpretated wrongly.

Help out now![edit]

Try and help people remain civil! Talk to them, and help them in any way possible. Do not be afraid to use the talk page.
Give people the Civility Barnstar.
Make and spread some Wikitokens so people know there are people to help if they want assistance.
Add banners or logos to your userpage to show your support.
Suggest some ideas! Add 'em to the talk page.

We are a community, so can only work though community contributions and support. It's the helping that counts.

Decision Making[edit]

The council expired one month ago, but due to the current position of the group the current council will remain until the position of the group can be assessed, and whether it would be sensible to keep Concordia going. For most decisions, however, it will be decided by all who choose to partake in discussions. I am trying to relaunch because of the vast amounts of new members we have received, demonstrating that the aims are supported.

Hello DynamoJax, why was this wiki edited to such a large degree. I thought that only edits were to be made to give both sides if the issues were that controversial. Just take a look at Senator Conrad Burns, also the Governors own press secretary made edits (removals) to the same section that you did. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Invitation to WikiProject Portals[edit]

The Portals WikiProject has been rebooted and is going strong.

So far, we've created a template with supporting Lua module to transclude excerpts of the current version of an article, to use instead of copy and paste. Excerpts using the template never go stale or fork.

There are sections on the WikiProject page dedicated to tasks (including WikiGnome tasks too), and areas on the talk page for discussing the improvement and automation of the various features of portals.

On the WikiProject page, there's a watchlist of all the pages in the portal namespace, for viewing Related changes.

With more to come.

You are invited to join, and participate in the effort to revitalize and improve the Portal system and all the portals in it.

We may even surprise ourselves and exceed all expectations. Who knows what we will be able to accomplish in what may become the biggest Wikicollaboration in years.

The RfC discussion to eliminate portals was closed May 12, with the statement "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time." This was made possible because you and others came to the rescue. Thank you for speaking up.

By the way, the current issue of the Signpost features an article with interviews about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

I'd also like to let you know that the Portals WikiProject is working hard to make sure your support of portals was not in vain. Toward that end, we have been working diligently to innovate portals, while building, updating, upgrading, and maintaining them. The project has grown to 80 members so far, and has become a beehive of activity.

Our two main goals at this time are to automate portals (in terms of refreshing, rotating, and selecting content), and to develop a one-page model in order to make obsolete and eliminate most of the 150,000 subpages from the portal namespace by migrating their functions to the portal base pages, using technologies such as selective transclusion. Please feel free to join in on any of the many threads of development at the WikiProject's talk page, or just stop by to see how we are doing. If you have any questions about portals or portal development, that is the best place to ask them.

Userspace drafts[edit]

Hello. While performing some routine cleanup, I came across User:JaxisMaximus/sandbox/2, where I can see that you drafted 3 articles before creating them in mainspace. Do you have any objections to me deleting that page, in order to remove the need for occasional future maintenance, and also to avoid keeping pages in userspace that look like articles for extended periods? While we are on the subject, I thought I would also ask about User:JaxisMaximus/sandbox (a 3-year-old draft for Dan McQueen) and User:JaxisMaximus/Sandbox (a 12-year-old draft for Is It A Good Idea to Microwave This?). Hello. I had completely forgotten about these article drafts. I would leave the Is it A good Idea to Microwave this draft for now, but delete the others. One draft has already since gone on to be a article anyway (2005 San Antonio election) and the other will likely never become an article as I don't have enough time or info to draft it (Dan McQueen).
