That's pretty cold, are we racist?  He was notable, why wouldn't you want more interest for your town history?

Your immediate and baseless accusation of racism is entirely uncalled for and certainly not productive. The source you cited indicated nothing that would qualify this individual as notable. 1) Many people from Wolcott fought in the Revolution and the Civil War: this does not warrant a Wikipedia mention for each, nor does it make them notable. 2) Being a grandparent of a notable person does not, in turn, make that grandparent notable. New England Subdivision[edit]

@Jgcoleman: I am the editor that included the New England entry under the infobox for Waterbury, CT and other cities. I was unable to get on wikipedia the past few days and did so I was unaware of the discussion around the edit on the Talk page. I see the entry is still deleted, would you mind if I chimed in for my reasoning? I am talking with a couple other editors about the same issue on other pages. If the matter is now moot let me know, but I agree with you in your arguments. Any thought?Tpwissaa (talk) 19:06, 22 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I do still firmly believe in my reasoning and I do believe that keeping New England in the Infobox is both in accordance with guidelines and, in a small way, makes for a better article. That said, my exchanges with a couple editors in the course of that discussion became somewhat heated and I may well have over-stepped some boundaries in my frustration with them. Consequently, I may not be the best representative of my perspective at this point. However, before I checked out of that discussion, I went to great length to thoroughly outline my reasoning in bullet points such that the issue could perhaps be picked up by someone else in due time. Cheshire, Connecticut[edit]

Regarding adding author Marc Tyler Nobleman to the list of notable people from Cheshire, CT, a quick check of a number of other people included on the list shows that they, too, were not born in Cheshire nor do they still live there; in fact, I would presume that almost none of them currently live there. Like most of them, Nobleman graduated from Cheshire High School and appears to have lived in Cheshire starting in grade school, so for at least a decade, and for a formative period of life; again this is comparable to others who are on the list. Numerous CT newspapers online (New Haven Register, Record-Journal, Stamford Advocate) refer to him as a "Cheshire native." Given these points, are you okay if I re-add? I think it's a stretch, personally, which is why I made that edit. If some others on the notable persons list have an equally tenuous relationship to Cheshire, I would sooner remove them too. Don't misunderstand, I'm not trying to suggest that Nobleman or any others aren't notable or accomplished people... it's got nothing to do with their achievements. It's that I question whether the Notable people section of a town article should be inflated as much as conceivable by listing any and all notable people who were neither born there nor reside there, but merely happened to live there for some amount of time at some point. I'm left to wonder if Nobleman is on the Notable People list of the town he was born in or the town he currently resides in or any other towns he may have spent a couple years. Should he be? It just seems like an indulgent use of the section which doesn't really add encyclopedic value. That said, I would imagine that you might suggest that, in spite of his living in other places before and after, Nobleman's formative years occurred in only one town, and that town was Cheshire. And while I still strongly question if that makes a non-native, non-resident of Cheshire a good fit for the Cheshire Notable People list, it's at least enough that I'm not going to aggressively challenge it either.
