Abdul Latief Deva (born 1 January 1957) is the current Chairman of Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission, serving since 23 July 2015.[1] He is the son of veteran National Conference politician and minister Abdul Salam Deva. Before joining the Commission he was the Vice-Chairman of Lakes & Waterways Development Authority, Jammu & Kashmir.
Biography[edit]
Born in 1957, Abdul Latief Deva did his graduation in B.A(Hons); LL.B from University of Kashmir. He qualified the State Civil Services Examination, Kashmir Administrative Services in 1984. He has held various posts in the State administration, which include the posts of Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama, Baramulla, and Kulgam. He has served as the Settlement Commissioner of J&K, a post once held by Sir Walter Lawrence. In 2003, he was made the first Chief Executive Officer of Pahalgam. Deva was also the first Deputy Commissioner of the district Kulgam.
He was appointed as the 21st Chairman of Jammu & Kashmir Public Service Commission in 2015, after the Commission had become completely defunct in November 2014.
