Your contributed article, History of Pernambuco[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, History of Pernambuco. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Pernambuco#History. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will to continue helping improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Pernambuco#History - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:42, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Bernardo Vieira de Melo[edit]

I noticed that you contributed a new article called Bernardo Vieira de Melo, which appears to be a machine translation of the Portuguese version of the same name. Machine translations are generally not acceptable as Wikipedia articles because the translation of idioms is quite poor. For example, in Bernardo Vieira de Melo, there is a sentence that reads:

On November 10, 1710 gave a cry of the Republic of Brazil

The original Portuguese reads

Em 10 de Novembro de 1710 deu o 1º Grito de República do Brasil

Can you provide a better translation than the one that the machine translator provided? The phrase "deu o 1º Grito" must be an idiom, because the translated sentence "gave a cry" does not make sense in English (and misses the fact that whatever Vieira did, he did first (1º). Thanks!! October 2010[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from History of Pernambuco, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:12, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with History of Pernambuco. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you. If you don't agree with this assessment, place a {{hangon}} tag and explain why. If you continue to remove the speedy deletion template without explanation, you will end up getting blocked. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:25, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Now that you have properly applied the {{hangon}} tag on History of Pernambuco, you must post a message at Talk:History of Pernambuco to indicate why you think the article should not be deleted. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:13, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Translations[edit]

When you translate a page from the Portuguese Wikipedia to the English Wikipedia, there are two important facts to note:

  1. You should place the template {{translated page}} on the talk page of the translated article. Many people worked on creating the Portuguese article; the translated page template allows users of the English Wikipedia to recognize that contributions.
  2. You should not simply post the Google translation of the Portuguese page. Machine translations are very poor and do not produce truly readable results. Many of the articles you have posted this way contain sentences that are meaningless in English. If you are not proficient enough in both Portuguese and English to provide a better translation, then please don't bother at all. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:21, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
One further point -- all Wikipedia articles must be verifiable by citing reliable sources. None of the articles you have posted cite any sources. As a start, you could cite the same sources as the original Portuguese articles (although preferable, it is not strictly required that the sources for the English Wikipedia be in English). Nomination of History of Pernambuco for deletion[edit]

A discussion has begun about whether the article History of Pernambuco, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/History of Pernambuco until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:25, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

Once again, you have created a page that details a lot of history, but provides no references. As an encyclopedia, Wikipedia requires that the facts it contains be verifiable by citations from reliable sources. This new article you have created, along with several you have created in the past, do not cite any sources. Please provide sources for the facts that you include in your articles. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:01, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Translations[edit]

I see that you are active now so I hope I can get your attention. Please do not continue to contribute raw machine translations of Portuguese pages. The machine translations result in almost completely nonsensical English. If you can't provide a translation by yourself, please don't bother. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:04, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Response[edit]

I am collecting information from different sources, and some portuguese sources I do translate them, I don't machine translate them, but do it myself, I am fluent in Portuguese. I do admit that some of my translations are not perfect due to forgetting the wording in English, I thank you for your assistance.

AFD[edit]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Article Proposed for Deletion[edit]

Notice

The article Areopagus Lodge has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

notability

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
