Image tagging for Image:Airplanetoulmin.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Airplanetoulmin.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Unspecified source for Image:Bldgoval.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bldgoval.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Awyong Jeffrey Mordecai Salleh 06:53, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IL vs OH[edit]

Thanks for checking on IL vs OH in Harry Aubrey Toulmin, Sr.. For me the kicker was the interurban -it was a train that ran north south, roughly following Interstate 75 today. It was for commuters and visitors to neighboring cities, there was no way it would go all the Illinois. Ruhrfisch 11:55, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Glad you figured out the problem with the web link. One thing you can do with your User page is put wikilinks to articles you have made. Then you can link to your User page and people can follow the links from there. I am not sure what it means to adopt you, but you can always ask me questions. I am mostly on Wikipedia in the evening, so it might take me a little while to reply at other times. Ruhrfisch 01:25, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • P.S. Since you seem to have a lot of issues with images on your talk page, you may want to look at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for those you have uploaded. If you can't justify fair use, do you live near enough to get a picture of the building? Or the library exhibit? Ruhrfisch 02:03, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Bldgoval.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a free image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Fair use rationale for Image:Bdarst5.jpg[edit]

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Bdarst5.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as {{fair use}} or {{fair use in|article name}}, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Awyong Jeffrey Mordecai Salleh 17:32, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your fair use rationale for Image:Bdarst5.jpg[edit]

The fair use rationale still doesn't explain why the image has to used, in lieu of any other free-licensed image.

  1. With regards to fair use criteria point 3, "The amount of copyrighted work used should be as little as possible." - this refers to the number of copyrighted images in the article, not as a proportion of the original source. The number of fair use images used in an article must be kept to a minimum.
  2. With regards to point 8, you said, "The subject in the above photo, Harry Aubrey Toulmin, Sr., his images, and his papers and property, are mentioned throughout the article... the image captures through a smiling, proud historian, how history views Harry Aubrey Toulmin, Sr., a point made in the article." If the photo is only used to illustrate these points, a similar free-licensed photo of any ongoing exhibition of Toulmin Sr.'s personal items would suffice. You could take a photo yourself and license it under the GFDL to replace this one. (See Wikipedia:Fair use criteria point 1.) Awyong Jeffrey Mordecai Salleh 18:27, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you wish to ask AVweb to release this specific image under GFDL, please see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. Awyong Jeffrey Mordecai Salleh 18:59, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on List of Clergy, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable. If you can indicate why List of Clergy is really notable, you can contest the tagging. To do this, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and leave a note on Talk:List of Clergy, explaining how List of Clergy is notable. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself.

Please read the criteria for speedy deletion (specifically, articles #7) and our general biography criteria. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. (aeropagitica) 23:32, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi. You deleted my page List of Clergy. See Special:Log/delete&page=List_of_Clergy. Please inform me why did you delete it? why did you delete it so speedy? why wasn't the reason I posted to keep the page sufficient to keep the page? If I want to post Joshua Toulmin in a list for his occupation and his occupation is clergy, where do you suggest I post it? If I created a new list "List of notable Clergy," would you find that acceptable? If not, could you give me some guidance on this. Thanks for helping with Wikipedia -- Jreferee 03:00, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The reason given was listcruft. A page listing all of the clergymen on Wikipedia would be huge and essentially unmaintainable. How would you know that it was complete and up-to-date? The example that you give above exists in several categories. This would be a better place to locate such a list rather than in the article space. The categories already exist, broken down by faith. This allows users to search for appropriate articles in a directed fashion. A list of the entire clergy doesn't allow such a directed search; it may even be so large as to not load properly in some users browsers. (aeropagitica) 09:15, 23 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption[edit]

Hello, Jreferee! I see that you have expressed an interest in being adopted by an experienced editor. I accept your request, being an experienced editor myself. Whether you want to learn about wiki markup, find something to do, or just talk to somebody, I'm the one you can talk to - just leave a message on my talk page. Good luck with Wikipedia! --Daniel Olsen 04:46, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Advice[edit]

Judging by the many messages (not all from bots) on your talk page, it seems that you've been uploading a lot of images without license. For now, maybe you shouldn't upload anymore images until you read and understand Wikipedia:Image use policy and Wikipedia:Image copyright tags.

I'm not sure which article you're talking about being deleted, please find the exact name and then I can show you where to find out what happened to it.

Currently, your userpage redirects to your talk page. For now, I'll blank your userpage, giving you a clean slate to work with. If you need anything else, just drop me another message. --Daniel Olsen 18:14, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see the page now. If you go to the page List of Clergy, you'll see a link near the bottom of the box that says "deletion log". Clicking that will bring you to the deletion log for the page, which shows all the times the page was deleted. The deleting admin tagged the article with {{db-empty}}, which tells why it meets the Criteria for speedy deletion. --Daniel Olsen 18:20, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

At Wikipedia:Requesting_copyright_permission#When_permission_is_confirmed, it states, Once you have received a confirmation that permission has been given, you should forward it to the Wikimedia Communications committee at the e-mail address "permissions AT wikimedia DOT org", where it will be securely archived. Forward both your request and the answer received to that e-mail address, preferrably together as one message (e.g., as attachments to one message of yours that would say that you received such-and-such release of which article or image). You should add a note to the effect that permission has been confirmed on the article's talk page (not in the article itself) or on the image description page, but avoid disclosing unnecessary personal details such as email addresses or telephone numbers. You may wish to use the {{confirmation}} template for this purpose.

You are not supposed to modify this page, as explained in bold red print at both the top and the bottom of the page. The article was taken off articles for deletion months ago when no consensus was reached. You should also consider reading WP:AUTO before encouraging individuals to build and maintain pages about themselves and to "toot their trumpet" (as you put it on User_talk:Eduardo.miranda) on Wikipedia. Particularly, the request for the subject to modify the page should be removed from the main article. Apart from that, hopefully you can improve the article itself - perhaps by making it less POV and less like promotional material for the academic. Pathlessdesert 13:54, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya. Thanks very much for adding the new material to the BCI page and doing some clean-ups. Noticed one small problem though, you've changed the spelling of a lot of words from British to US versions. While I'm agnostic about whether US or British spellings are used, fo whatever reason the entire article is using British English as well as some English style guide items (eg, not using Oxford commas). Do you think you could switch back the spellings? (There's info about this topic here: Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Disputes_over_style_issues.) Cheers --Saganaki- 01:45, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Douglas Warner[edit]

Here are the comments I left after assessing your article:

ootnotes are not needed in the lead paragraph. If you feel you need to include/source the "Sandy" nickname, write a sentence in the body of the article and source it there.

  • Prose needs cleanup--there are many ambiguities and colloquialisms scattered throughout the article that can confuse readers, particularly if english is not their native language.
  • The Philosophic/ financial views section: consider renaming that and clarifying the prose. As it stands, the header makes one think you are going to discuss his philosophy and views, then you write about how others see him. Also, are you taling about how he transformed one bank or many?
  • Photos: I think that photo of the Augusta golf course should be deleted. It adds nothing to the article except decoration. Also, consider dropping the flag jpeg from the info box. It seems unnecessarily jingoistic to me. Jeffpw 09:20, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • That Philosophic section reads a *lot* better now. It's no longer ambiguous at all. The lead looks better, too. I forgot to add in my other assessment that some may find (particularly if you are trying for GA or FA status) that the pics of Vietnam and the Tower of London are merely decorative, and tell you to delete them. It's your decision, based on what you want to do with the article (and my personal feeling is that the more visual content on a page, the better...though I do hold a minority view).
