Userboxes and categories

For example {{user en-us}} adds the user page to Category:User en-us, and so on. Could be useful if someone is looking for a user with certain language skills (well, probably not the English, but maybe the Spanish). I don't use userboxes myself, though, so I'm certainly in no position to tell others to use them; just a suggestion. Of course you could also use your custom userboxes and manually add your user page to those categories if you want to. Cheers! Huon (talk) 05:32, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Probably should have mentioned this earlier: suggestion taken; thank you. --JustBerry (talk) 04:32, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Mumbai_Confidential Article

JustBerry, I edited the sandbox and fixed some citations (added the GQ one) : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:IyamTheGreat/Mumbai_Confidential Do let me know what you think of it now and what else I need to work on. IyamTheGreat (talk) 06:22, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Great, looks like you have gotten a grip on your citations. Try to find as many reliable sources as you can find (that includes no blogs, forums, etc.). Books, Google Scholar, and other research databases will facilitate in making your article more accurate/precise. Also, do not draw conclusions. Just try to make the facts flow with one another. Please let me know if you have any concerns/questions. --JustBerry (talk) 06:50, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Check Wikipedia

Hi Magioladitis, I was wondering if there was a specific application for Macs to aid in Check Wikipedia tasks. Please let me know. --JustBerry (talk) 22:08, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Check Wikipedia

Hi Prabash, I see that you have rights on the AutoWikiBrowser. I plan to work with Wikipedia:WikiProject_Check_Wikipedia, but AutoWikiBrowser is not available for Mac from what I have heard. Do you know of another application that may help with CheckWikipedia tasks? --JustBerry (talk) 22:23, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Try downloading the AWB application on your mac, I heard rumors that it actually works there! Prabash.Akmeemana 22:25, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
Nope, the .zip contains .exe files. I think you are referring to people who have used WineBottler on their Mac; unfortunately, the application does not work for me. Do you know of any other applications perhaps? --JustBerry (talk) 22:28, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
Try Wiki-Ed Prabash.Akmeemana 22:38, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
Not appearing in a Google or Wikipedia search. Can you please give me the link? Thanks. --JustBerry (talk) 23:38, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
You can usually use Wine to run AWB. WikiEd is more of an expanded text-editor than anything. GorillaWarfare (talk) 23:42, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

MrX Confusion

Information icon Hello, I'm MrX. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit to Homosexual agenda seemed less than neutral to me, so I removed it for now. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. - MrX 23:22, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Yes, yes... as I already told you, my reversion tool reverted the reversion of the vandal. Quoting my message on your talk page: "Hi, Apparently, there was some issue in the reversion. I was reverting the edit of the IP address, and the reversion tool happen to revert the edit before me (which already performed the action I was trying to perform). A little misunderstanding, just wanted to let you know. --JustBerry (talk) 23:23, 6 July 2013 (UTC)." Not to worry. --JustBerry (talk) 23:25, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, I was trying to retract the notice as you posted your reply. I will strike it instead. Again, I'm sorry for the mix up. - MrX 23:29, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

Just something you may want to keep in mind: save your page when you have made a significant contribution. Often times, by constantly clicking save, the page history lengthens unnecessarily. Your Edit on Flint_Group

Hello Hardeks, please be mindful to cite reliable sources. A blog (blogspot.com) is not considered to be a reliable source. --JustBerry (talk) 19:21, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Talk page etiquette

Hi JustBerry. I was curious why you've started leaving messages for other users on your talk page, then giving them a talkback. It's a bit of an odd habit that goes against what most people are used to seeing. I would suggest leaving messages for other users on their talk pages, and watching the pages for a reply. GorillaWarfare (talk) 20:46, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

It really all depends; I have a system built in place. Why does this concern you so much? --JustBerry (talk) 20:55, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
It's just backwards from the system I've seen anyone else use, and I worry new users, like the ones you're leaving messages for, will find it confusing to navigate. GorillaWarfare (talk) 20:58, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
Well, I mostly tend to leave talkbacks either if I am replying to someone's message or if something is very important (including something I may want to watch for). It just seems a bit odd to me, personally, to have to leave the message on someone else's talk page if the message is directly pertinent to myself. --JustBerry (talk) 21:01, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
How is "Hello Hardeks, please be mindful to cite reliable sources. A blog (blogspot.com) is not considered to be a reliable source." directly pertinent to you? I would recommend following the general practice of leaving messages for other users on their talk pages. GorillaWarfare (talk) 21:02, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
Okay, I have acknowledged your recommendation, but notice how I said "including something I may want to watch for." I may not remember to check on particularly inactive user talk pages, but I will certainly respond to any questions that the (new) users may have. --JustBerry (talk) 21:04, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
That's why I suggested that you watch the users' pages. GorillaWarfare (talk) 21:11, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
Um... I thought I mentioned that my watchlist is very large already. Is there something else I can do? --JustBerry (talk) 21:12, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
Trim down your watchlist? Make a lists of users to check back in on? GorillaWarfare (talk) 21:14, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
Well, I do help with anti-v on Wikipedia, therefore include the talk pages of numerous vandals. All I can say is: my watchlist is fairly crowded in terms of updates as well. Let me know what else you can think of... --JustBerry (talk) 21:16, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
Well, if there are no "alternatives," I will try to adhere to your advice. Thank you for letting me know. --JustBerry (talk) 21:35, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
None that I can really think of. I usually just try to keep my watchlist relatively short, so I'm not missing anything. GorillaWarfare (talk) 21:54, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
All right then, great! --JustBerry (talk) 21:54, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Quick question

What edit are you warning the user for with regard to this warning?--Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 22:46, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

...and here? All I can see is an IP that made one edit, which was reverted by Cluebot, who warned them appropriately. They make no further edits and then you slap them with a level 3 vandalism warning. Is that correct?--Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 22:53, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello Ponyo,
I think you misunderstood my intention. I looked over the edits and put the tag accordingly. For example, one of the warnings indicated to me that the editor was not very serious about editing Wikipedia. For this reason, I put a "warning" tag on xyr's talk page so that xe clearly understands that this is not the right place for such edits. I hope you understand that I am fairly new to vandal-reverting, and my intentions were certainly not "slam" the user with warnings, merely to raise the bar of urgency for the editor based on the edit. Please let me know if you have any questions, or if you feel I was warning incorrectly. Thank you. --JustBerry (talk) 23:16, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
If another editor (or Cluebot) has reviewed the edits and warned accordingly then it really is piling on to place additional warnings. The intent of the level based warning system is to provide the editor the opportunity to correct their behaviour between warnings. I understand that your intent is good but it is somewhat bitey to elevate or add new warnings if the user has not repeated the behaviour. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 23:24, 8 July 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for your advice. I will try to adhere to that in the future. --JustBerry (talk) 23:29, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Japanese Wikipedia article for "2008 Ventforet Kofu season"

I looked at the English Wikipedia article for "2008 Ventforet Kofu season" (Japanese soccer or Association football, whatever you prefer to call it) and saw that there was an Expand Japanese tag attached to it. However, there's no link to the corresponding article in the Japanese Wikipedia, and I was wondering if you or anybody else knew where the Japanese Wikipedia article for "2008 Ventforet Kofu season" was located at. Thank you in advance. Buspirtraz (talk) 01:33, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Hello, unfortunately I am not a Japanese speaker, hence tell you the specific article. However, using Google Translate for translating the title and searching the Japanese Wikipedia with the Japanese translation may not be a bad idea.
In terms of the article as a whole, it has many pieces of data that have not been explained or connected with thoughts and ideas so that the reader can understand the topic well. You may want to consider explaining the season and what the data signifies. Please let me know if you have any questions about my feedback or anything else. --JustBerry (talk) 02:15, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Adoption

Hi JustBerry. I just wanted to check in with you regarding your adoption. I see you haven't edited your adoption page in over two weeks, and I haven't heard much from you on IRC. Do you still wish to continue your adoption? I completely understand if you've just been busy with real life and haven't had much time lately, but if you're losing interest in Wikipedia or the adoption, please let me know so I can free up the adoption slot for another user. GorillaWarfare (talk) 06:04, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Shall I take your lack of response to indicate that you're no longer interested in adoption? GorillaWarfare (talk) 21:56, 7 August 2013 (UTC)
Alright, I'm going to assume that's a yes. If you wish to reopen your adoption, feel free to drop me a note. For now I'm opening the slot up to another user. GorillaWarfare (talk) 02:58, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Your involvement with DRN

Hi there, I noticed that you haven't been as active at DRN as you was before. DRN has been a bit backlogged lately and we could use some extra hands. We have updated our volunteer list to a new format, Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard/Volunteers (your name is still there under the old format if you haven't updated it) and are looking into ways to make DRN more effective and more rewarding for volunteers (your input is appreciated!). If you don't have much time to volunteer at the moment, that's fine too, just move your name to the inactive list (you're free to add yourself back to active at any time). Hope to see you again soon :) Steven Zhang (talk) 13:20, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Opting in to VisualEditor

As you may know, VisualEditor ("Edit beta") is currently available on the English Wikipedia only for registered editors who choose to enable it. Since you have made 50 or more edits with VisualEditor this year, I want to make sure that you know that you can enable VisualEditor (if you haven't already done so) by going to your preferences and choosing the item, "Enable the visual editor. It will be available in the following namespaces: $1". This will give you the option of using VisualEditor on articles and userpages when you want to, and give you the opportunity to spot changes in the interface and suggest improvements. We value your feedback, whether positive or negative, about using VisualEditor, at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 20:14, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
