Romance novels

I am a Joane, from the Spanish wikipedia. I love Romance novels, although I read many other things. I'm responsible for the "Novela romántica" article in the es:wikipedia. I think some of the articles I have translated are yours. This message is to ask you, first of all, if there's any (Wikipedia:Template messages) or model of articles related to this subject; and, secondly, I've had a problem translating the word "omnibus", because it's not usual for the Spanish publishing companies to put together novels or stories from differente authors. Therefore, could you tell me what an omnibus book is? You can leave a message at the discussion of my page in Spanish as far as I haven't created one for my nick Joanenglish, which I think is here discussion, Joane. Thank you.--Joanenglish 17:39, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rosemary Rogers

Thanks for starting the article about her. I was thinking about doing it myself, and saw that it was quite recently created. Are you planing on expanding it? Jeffpw 16:24, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I started the page and then realized that there isn't a lot of information to be found about her online. This is all I have about her now -- if you have more info please post it -- I'd love to know more about her! Karanacs 16:42, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

English Grammar

Thank for your mensage. Really, the English is not my first language, is the Spanish, I will try to include single data without extending. If I have some text, I think that put the text on the talk page of the article first is a great idea, if somebody is animated to include it.

Verifiability

I just wanted to thank you for cleaning up my article--verifying, wikifying, and adding to it as well. I have definitely had a hard time with it, and wasn't sure where to turn to get help. I was hesitant to add too much, as it seemed everything I read, told me to be careful how I stated it. Your time and effort is very much appreciated. Anneb 07:13, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Offer From Romance Author Nicole Jordan

Hi Karanacs. I am Nicole's assistant. I told her how helpful you were with her article. And once she got on the site to look at what a great job you did, she asked me to offer you one of her signed books. She will be happy to send it to you to show her appreciation. What's more, you can choose which book you want. You can provide your name and mailing address by accessing her web site Email Nicole info. Be sure to put something in the subject line so she can identify you as something other than spam. If you're not interested, that's fine too. Any questions, I'll be checking my Talk Page. Thanks again! Anneb 06:42, 12 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:Mary higgins clark.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Mary higgins clark.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:09, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Re: Offer From Nicole Jordan

Nicole let me know you contacted her. Thanks so much! And again, my heartfelt appreciation for all your help and advice. I know I would have been in a pickle if not for you! Smile. Anneb 14:59, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies

Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of [unassessed articles] tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Many of them are of stub and start class, but a few are of B or A caliber. Getting a simple assessment rating can help us start moving many of these biographies to a higher quality article. Thank you! --Ozgod 21:09, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TAMU history

EXCELLENT job on the TAMU history article Karanacs! This past night I actually noticed much the article needed to be expanded, so I went to Evans library and got some of the A&M history books. They are pretty comprehensive, so maybe I'll add in a bit more. I also found a book on Reveille so I'll expand that article a little more. Firstly, I'd like to remind you of WP:AGF.

I added the notability tags as to have someone who was an expert, or at least more knowledgeable of romance novels, check them to make sure they were in-fact notable. I won't claim to know anything about the subject area, so I don't feel as though I have the right to make a verdict. As unreferenced article, I was doubtful of these author's signifigance, books in print etc..

They look much better now, but both of them still are in need of some wikification, and I might suggest you read WP:TRIVIA and check some of the information under Patricia Maxwell's 'personal life'. It seems rather unnotable and umimportant in nature, and could very much qualify as trivia and trivial. Cornell Rockey 03:54, 24 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are a ton of advert-bios on wikipedia, ranging from lawyers & doctors to authors & musicians. These bios are almost always non-notable people that are added to the encyclopedia for purposes of having them show up in a google search as being notable and important. The manner in which all of these had been added (very unreferenced), regardless of claims of notability (which were not backed up with citations) looked to me to be to be another series of biography-spam. Thats why I put the notability tag on them. Cornell Rockey 15:53, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Quote/Aggie thought

K, always happy to share a laugh with a fellow Aggie

To throw another one in the mix...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA....OOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLL.....ARMY.....ARMY!.......Gotta story for ya Ags!

It seems that Rock had some wayward friends from Texas Tech [ssssssssssssssssssssssssssss] and t.u. [SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!] and they decided to take a camping trip into the mountains. Rock, being the good Ag that he was, brought along a full keg of beer for the three of them to share.

After hiking to their campsite about 2001 feet (WHOOP!) above the valley floor, they set up, camp cooked dinner, and began to drink the beer as they talked around the campfire. As it usually happens with guys, the discussion turned to who was the toughest.

File:TCEH.jpg
Texas Tech Spelling Bee

The tceh tard (who couldn't even spell after 4 years at tceh), claimed he was the toughest, "I have killed three bears at once with my bare hands!"

The guy from that overglorified junior college in Austin countered that he was MUCH tougher, "Oh yeah?! I once took on a whole pack of wolves when I had a broken arm! The first 20 I killed with my fingers on my good hand! I tore off my broken arm and beat the remaining 40 into a pulp and them reattached my own arm with no anesthetic and fishing line!"

They both then looked over at Rock, expecting him to say something to counter their wild claims. He didn't. Rock just sat there slowly stirring the coals of the fire with his penis...

Overextended, not so much

I'd be fine if it weren't for the fact that I accidentally closed the window that I was working on the Notable people section after working on it for about 2 hours (right as I finished it!!! AAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHH!!!). I won't be able to tackle my sections until tomorrow afternoon or evening. I'd really like to take the Traditions and Corps sections. I was in the Corps and hell bent on understanding the history of our traditions and training, so I know quite a bit and it is pretty easy for me to spot what is wrong. All told, I'd rather do it myself than have someone else hack at it while I criticize them. But tackle the athletics section (pun intended) if you so desire. FYI, I'm taking a break from Wikipedia until at least tomorrow, so don't expect me on tonight. Was the explanation of the Corps contribution to WWII satisfactory? Finish Texas A&M University article

This is a request to assist in finishing the Texas A&M University article for FA status. We need just a couple of people to read the article and the discussion and then sign off the remaining items to be checked. Once this is done, we will submit for Featured Article status. Even just checking off one item would help, so please do what you can BQZip01 talk 06:21, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Seeing as it seems to be you and I leading this charge, I think we can do a quick check for spelling and references (make sure we don't have blank fields, proper citations, etc.) once everything is signed off and then submit. I hope we can do it tomorrow! BQZip01 talk 06:30, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
P.P.S. The University of Oklahoma page was submitted for FA status. I didn't do anything wrong, but I went to the trouble of pointing out things they had wrong. I didn't mean to be too much of a pain and I held us to the same standard, but they really have a lot to handle to get the problems corrected (in that way it is kind of amusing). BQZip01 talk 06:30, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
P.P.P.S. I checked the edits and think you were the only one doing it, but I deleted all double spaces in the article and it brought the size of the file down by 700 bytes. I'd like to use that standard from now on to save space (pun intended). BQZip01 talk 06:30, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
P.4 S. I also deleted the extra spaces in the citation templates. I know it makes them a little more difficult to read, but removing the extra space and these spaces reduces the size of the file by 3.6KB. Not shabby for not a lick of changing anything substantive :-). BQZip01 talk 07:16, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
P.5 S. Went ahead and did a basic spell check and nothing seemed to jump out at me. I think we're ready. You? BQZip01 talk 07:17, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FA status here we come

I'll double check the references tonight and make sure they are good. I've got a lot on my plate right now and I am not sure I will get to it tonight. Worst case, I will double check tonight and submit tomorrow. Right now I am a bit tipsy (4 triple margaritas and 4 shots of Jim Bean...and 4 shots of crown tend to waste you for an evening. The following is my plan:

  1. Correct any referencese to the Keepers of the Spirit
  2. Finalize/cross out any comments in the prep section
  3. Archive all comments (the comments from the FA approval can be brutal and may take up a lot of space).
  4. Submit for FA status. (NLT tomorrow afternoon)

As long as we answer all objections in a timely manner (no reason with the number of people working on this that we can't get them within 24 hours), I think we'll get FA status. If we have to cut anything, I say we trim the Notable people, Traditions, Atletics, and Research (in that order). Gig 'em and good luck! BQZip01 talk 02:08, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

going to nominate our article in the wikiproject Texas and universities for featured article statues. that should attract more reviewers to read our article. just got to beat ou. think about how those sippers will feel when they realize that ou and a&m get fa status before they do.  :-) Oldag07 05:15, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Texas A&M University FA Nomination

Thanks for leaving comments at the Texas A&M University FA Nomination. Are there particular portions of the Manual of Style that you feel aren't being followed? We are certainly intending to follow the MOS. We will be happy to fix problems, but we need more guidance and what the problem might be. Thanks. (I also put this comment on the FA page, but I didn't know if you'd be checking it often. I don't mean to nag.) Karanacs 14:01, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

regarding Manual of style, i would suggest that the values having units like hectares or kilometers can be wikified like you can write 55673km. as 55,673 square kilometres (21,495 sq mi)

Just insert this template- {{convert|55673|sqkm|sqmi|0|lk=on}}

one more thing, i saw the page first time ever but i love the content. is there anything else i can do for you? thanks, Sushant gupta (talk · contribs) 15:03, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I need some backup

It looks like I'm about to start an edit war and I really don't want to, so I'm hoping I can resolve this with majority opinion. There's a right-wing libertarian dude who's been editing Wiki articles to post opinions about JK Rowling's supposed socialist messages. He added a massive subsection to the Controversy over Harry Potter page on this topic, which I ultimately deleted on the (in my opinion correct) grounds that it constituted criticism, not controversy. A controversy is an argument or dispute, and there is no evidence of controversy in that section whatsoever. I made that point and merged the section with the Harry Potter#Criticism and praise section. Now he's back and he's reinserted his section, but he seems to have missed the original point. Before things get rough I would like to ensure that this goes over as smoothly as possible. Thanks. Serendipodous 16:20, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help. Re: your suggestions; already done. :)

As for his political opinions, I really don't have a problem with them so long as they are a) properly sourced and b) properly placed. Very little of what this guy has written has actually been taken down. Much of it has just been shifted to other, more appropriate pages. If that's not enough for him than, as we said on the playground, tough noogies. Serendipodous 17:25, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I was going to respond to all the critics of the Political Opposition section personally, but then I found that Serendipodous had solicited them and sullyed my name by calling me a Libertarian! (that is the Ayn Rand Society, not me). If you don't want to engage in an edit war then don't. The information is all true and has citations, and backed by Rowling's own words. You've edited the material for weeks and now suddenly deleted the whole section. What do you find so threatening about keeping the information accessable? Thanks for uploading Image:Clay_Walker_-_Greatest_Hits_1998.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigrTex 17:18, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Clay_Walker_-_A_Few_Questions.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Clay_Walker_-_A_Few_Questions.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. I recommend that you review Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline, and use {{Non-free fair use rationale}} as described there. If you have questions, please ask. ~ BigrTex 19:28, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Now I went and looked at Image:Clay_Walker_-_If_I_Could_Make_a_Living.jpg and that looks like you've got it. Sorry to bother you. ~ BigrTex 19:29, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just want to make sure you understand that the right way is the way you did the Clay Walker cover, not the way you did the George Strait cover. {{Non-free fair use in}} is meant for cases where none of the 'standard' fair use tags fit, in these cases instead of {{Non-free album cover}}, and still requires a separate statement of the fair use rationale. Hope this helps. ~ BigrTex 19:53, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I understand how confusing it is. There are still nuances that I don't understand, and I've spent most of my time here working on images for the last few months. ~ BigrTex 19:57, 31 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requested moves

For future reference, you do not need to formally request or propose that a page be moved in order to move it prior to moving it, only if you are unsure, or if the move is controversial. In this case, the person clearly just does not know the conventions on Wikipedia, so you would only need to make a request if there is something blocking the move which requires an administrator. —Centrxtalk • 05:21, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
