Orphaned non-free media (File:FrederickForsyth TheDayOfTheJackal.jpg)[edit]

Ambox warning blue.svg Thanks for uploading File:FrederickForsyth TheDayOfTheJackal.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:12, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

Better source request for File:3 Wakepig.jpg[edit]

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 21:18, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Book pattern template[edit]

Hi Kevin - I considered using the information at Wikipedia:WikiProject Books/Non-fiction article as pattern template, but it is very confusing. The pattern template which you created at Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/ArticleTemplate is clear and very usable. When you return, please consider creating pattern templates at Wikipedia:WikiProject Books/Non-fiction article in the same way you created Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/ArticleTemplate. Thanks. -- Jreferee (talk) 14:05, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

In reply[edit]

Hi Kevin Thanks for your message. I'm pleased you like my books!

I totally understand what you mean about it being 'bad form' for an author to write their own page. However, I've watched it over the last 4 + years, and it's been full of errors. Full of them! What then happens is that event organisers who are having me appear pull the details, incorrect as they are, and use them for promo material. It's so annoying.

All I wanted to do was make it correct. I don't care that much about having a page, so if you think it better I remove my comments, I will.

Cheers

Ben15:17, 9 January 2015 (UTC) 09 01 2015 — Preceding unsigned comment added by BenKaneAuthor (talkcontribs)

Thanks, Kevin, for your reply, and the offer of help. I'm more than happy for you to rewrite/change the edits I made, so that it appears that you have done them. Is it that simple? I don't want to go asking my readers to do stuff on here for me, really. *That* would look really pretentious in my mind. I can also supply a photo of me in Roman kit, if you wish. Cheers. Ben. Herland (novel)[edit]

While I'll buy that the first book reprinting would be acceptable fair use, a modern paperback adds almost no encyclopedic value, particularlyu when the novel was printed in 1915, just in serial form. Further, cheap paperback editions tend to not have artwork created for them - a bit of checking indicates the background appears to be a painting by Marie Spartali Stillman, with no actual connection to Herland or Gilman, which gives it minimal illustrative power for the novel. Adam Cuerden (talk) 16:18, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

However it is the norm to reproduce the 1st book for edition. Normally of course this is the very first edition of any type - but not here. And the strange thing is that it took so long to arrive in this manner. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 13:35, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
Agreed, but I don't think that justifies a different book cover. Unless this is the first edition, and not labelled explicitly enough. Adam Cuerden (talk) 02:20, 26 March 2015 (UTC)
Checking, https://www.etsy.com/listing/202363645/herland-a-lost-feminist-utopian-novel-by is the 1979 first edition. (direct link: https://img0.etsystatic.com/026/1/6899545/il_570xN.649321522_p4w0.jpg ) - the image we have is just a random printing. Adam Cuerden (talk) 05:58, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

Percy Jackson Task-force[edit]

Hi, I'm looking to help re-activate the Percy Jackson Task-force. As you are one of the few "inactive" or "unknown" members still actively editing Wikipedia, I wanted to extend an invitation for you to work with me to do this. If you are no longer interested, I'd appreciate your taking the time to move your username to the "inactive" list here or removing it altogether. And thanks for all you did before!

If you are interested, firstly I'd like to invite you to become a full member, as the requirements for membership are going to be lowered in the near future (I know they scared me away on the first try) -- or just a "supporter", if that's more your speed. I would also ask you to consider a proposal I have, which is that this task-force become the "Rick Riordan" task-force. I've suggested this because I think it would help keep the project active and also help stop some pretty widespread vandalism in articles referring to that author. My proposal in brief. I'm a relatively new Wikipedian, so I'd appreciate the advice and expertise of a more experienced user. Thanks again in advance, and feel free to contact me on my Talk page. 2ReinreB2 (talk) 02:23, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

The Secret Adversary Agatha Christie, when did it air? Could not find in in IMDb[edit]

Kevinalewis, thanks for compromise on The Secret Adversary. When did the most recent adaptation air in 2015? I looked for an IMDb link, but could not find one, so I assumed it had not yet aired. You perhaps have seen it? --Prairieplant (talk) 07:34, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Aha, I found it is airing right now! First episode in UK on Sunday past, the other two ahead of us. So, no IMDb listing yet, but I found a review from The Telegraph to add to text, giving a source that it did happen, not just an idea never aired. Awkward to write about something in progress as past tense. --Prairieplant (talk) 07:56, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Arnold Fruchtenbaum[edit]

perhaps you could take another look at this in terms of NPOV, where the emphasis on what motivated him and what he "perceived" can be derived only from his own view of himself, I couldtry fixing it myself, but you know the subject better. And perhaps it would be a good idea to add publisher info and ISBN for the books--and please use WorldCat as a ref, not Amazon, as you have done in some other articles. . Revert[edit]

Hey Kevin - You might want to take a second look at the revert you did on Gillian Welch; take a look down in the reference section. Did you lose the red drive signal on your monitor by any chance? :) Regards CV9933 (talk) 11:22, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

You might need a bit of additional script to see the access date errors. My understanding is that cites that have a hard copy, such as books and journals don't require an access date. Regards CV9933 (talk) 09:51, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
That's cool - just another fourteen to do then? :) Regards CV9933 (talk) 10:18, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
The error was Boston_Globe_2003 reference - which we defined "twice" in the reference list with different details. It was nothing to do with accessdates - per se. This is resolved, waht are you seeing now then? :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 11:04, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Hi Kevin,- Yes my main fix was the duplicate reference but what I was also seeing was a sea of red access dates that require a url see this.Hence my tongue in cheek reference to the red drive signal on your monitor. I think you either need some additional script or need to have something like "show hidden categories" enabled in the appearance setting of your preferences to see the same thing that I am. Regards CV9933 (talk) 11:57, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Looks better and I appreciate the effort you made there, I am slowly working my way through this list of duplicate references, so when I find a page full of that particular kind of CS1 error, I resort to "If the citation does not use a web link, then |access-date= is redundant and should be removed". Regards. CV9933 (talk) 14:33, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

Jewish Quarterly[edit]

Hi Kevin,

This periodical is currently titled "Jewish Quarterly" as per your edit to a reference in Gerda Mayer. But the 1996 edition referenced was at that time still titled "The Jewish Quarterly". I have a copy in front of me and the style "The Jewish Quarterly" is used on the front cover, the contents page and throughout the magazine. The same is true of a second (unedited) reference to a 1989 edition.

I couldn't find a Wikipedia policy on this but I feel it is more accurate to use the contemporary styling rather than the current one. What do you reckon? Thanks, David.

Rev. Boddledale (talk) 16:44, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Hmm interesting one. I hear what you are saying. We are really caught between contemporary consistency and individual publication consistency (i.e. ability to refer to the one publication so we all know it "is" the same). Confusingly this is a more straightforward case that is often present. Journals which are actually completely different publications have identical name. Also they often cease a run and then restart, using something like a suffix (e.g. New series) only for that to fall into disuse later once the 'newness' has been forgotten; yet it may even have started to reuse volume numbering from the past. Sigh... it's complicated.
Additionally we have numbers of editors working through Wikipedia:WikiProject_Academic_Journals attempting to bring some sanity to the referencing usage and making use of working pages such as Wikipedia:WikiProject_Academic_Journals/Journals_cited_by_Wikipedia. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:19, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Edit war warning[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Gordon–Conwell Theological Seminary. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Jytdog (talk) 15:15, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

Dispensationalism/ Preterism[edit]

The definition page used to be very good until preterists found it and found that they could add or edit. Their view of the term is recent, silly, and corrupted yet obsessive and persistent. Futurism, preterism, eschatology has little or nothing to do with what dispensationalism is. Anyone who has spent years discussing or debating Christian doctrines such as I have has heard the term many times and knows how it is and was used. Dispensationalists and their doctrine must remain the main authority on the definition since they created the word.

I honestly have little ability to understand this site or how it works but I do know that the goal should be to have definitions as true and informative as possible. While the grammatical should probably be corrected by someone more knowledgeable in html etc for my earlier addition of example dispensations such as adamic, noahide, mosaic, etc. these are the basics of the meaning of dispenationlism as anyone who knows dispensationalists for years should know. I was sure these basic examples were once on the page. Preterists may have removed them because it is of the real definition and contradicts their obsession about futurism. If this site mainly adjusts to a majority then preterists will get their way and totally change and corrupt the definition for their agenda and obsession. I'm done, but please make the definition right. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.50.204.32 (talk) 11:30, 19 May 2016 (UTC)

I'm not sure when I could have more time. I actually run a manufacturing company. I am not dispensationalist but dispensationalists have argued with me for years on the web and on the streets and in Christian forums over Bible law which they reject with dispensationalism being the reason why. Now preterists are calling people "dispies" or dispensationalists for believing in future prophecy and have changed the meaning to "futurist." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.50.204.32 (talk) 19:24, 19 May 2016 (UTC)

Okay, understand! I can understand the confusion. However it is true that dispensationalist believe there is a future which is affected by Biblical prophecy and they do have a particlar take on how to understand it. Also worth mentioning that there are various different forms of dispensational understanding, what I will call classic, ultra and now progressive. Intersting their (preterists') attitude to Biblical law is one of the reasons I wouldn't out of choice call myself a dispensationalist. Also I can see interpretive value in aspects of all of these systems of thought and often find myself considering God as "larger" than all of them. However I do believe that dispensation thinking expresses a more prominent aspect of God's way of dealing with man and history than some of the others. You? :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:05, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

Jack Ryan: "Ryan doctrine"[edit]

Hi, I saw that you reverted my edit for this page, specifically in regards to the section heading. I capitalized the word "Doctrine" because it refers to a specific doctrine, in keeping with the precedents mentioned within the section itself. For instance, the Wikipedia article for the Reagan Doctrine is labelled as such, with both words capitalized. If I did anything wrong, or don't know some rule, feel free to tell me. Closed AfDs[edit]

Hi! I noticed that you recently tried to re-open the now closed AfD for No Cross, No Crown with this edit. It looks like you were arguing to keep the article, however the AfD had closed with the consensus to keep the article so there was no actual need to re-open the AfD. In general AfDs should not be re-opened once they are closed and it's actually relatively rare for AfDs to be re-opened unless there's a consensus at deletion review (or with the closer) that the AfD needs to be re-opened because the discussion needs more consensus. Even then it's sometimes preferable to start a new, fresh AfD that links to the older AfD. Re-opening an AfD, especially if you are adding an argument that agrees with the close, can be seen as disruptive since closed AfDs are not supposed to be further edited.
