Novae[edit]

Hey, Kleo, I saw what you did with the Novae page and I think it's a good job, but I have a few issues with it. The main problem is the source you used. Is there any way we can get it in English? That would be helpful because, as it is now, I can't even compare it with the normal page and what you used from it. Running it through a translator didn't help much.

I really want to help with the page and, possibly, get it submitted to Did You Know, with you as the major contributor, of course. But, as it is now, it can't be done. Please respond back soon. I'm going to go about trying to make the article look better myself.

Hello Silver seren, I am one of the Polish archaeologists working at Novae. I have translated and summarized the information given in the articles written among others by prof. T. Sarnowski (unfortunately majority of general information about Novae was written in Polish; the other detailed literature is in other languages), as well as used some ancient sources I know. The articles that you may find is T. SARNOWSKI, Novae Italicae im 1. Jh. n. Chr., Études et Travaux 15, 1991, 348-355 and L. PRESS, T. SARNOWSKI, Novae. Römisches Legionslager und frühbyzantinische Stadt an der unteren Donau, Antike Welt 21, 1990, 22. A lot of details concerning excavations and the site is given on our website (http://www.provinces.uw.edu.pl/index.html), but still only in Polish - I am going to translate it soon into English. The articles by prof. T. Sarnowski about Novae are given on our website - employees - Tadeusz Sarnowski - and see there publications (http://www.provinces.uw.edu.pl/tadeusz sarnowski_en.html).

Very useful is the newest book: Novae. Legionary Fortess and late Antique Town Derda Tomasz ed. Dyczek Piotr ed. Kolendo Jerzy eds, Warsaw 2008, as well as a series of articles published in recent Archeologia (Warszawa), where I have also my own contribution :) The other authors are T. Kolendo, L. Mrozewicz, P. Dyczek, A. Biernacki, E. Genceva. The last one is a head of the Bulgarian expedition from Balgarska Akademia na Naukite (Bulgarian Academy of Sciences). She published a book on the earliest phases of Novae: E. Genčeva, Părvijat vojenen lager v Novae (Dolna Mizija), Sofia-Warszawa 2002. I hope I helped you.
