Sri Lanka Reconciliation[edit]

I noticed that you showed an interest in Sri Lanka related articles. Please take a look at WikiProject Sri Lanka Reconciliation, a bipartisan effort to improve collaboration on and coverage of the Sri Lankan Civil War. Among other things, we collected a number of recommendations for getting your point across while keeping out of trouble. We're here to help! In any event, we invite you to leave us a message on our talk page.

Happy editing! — Sebastian 00:22, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Wow, you're quick! I wanted to add you to our member list, and I noticed you had done that yourself already! That's the right spirit!
I will add, one last time, the "what's new" template, but I'm afraid it probably will not be updated, depending on the outcome of Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Sri Lanka Reconciliation#chores. — Sebastian 17:42, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

early Sri Lankan History[edit]

You have done several changes to the main SL article and I appreciate your effort..Having said that I have to state that your comments regarding our history is flawed and needs to be corrected immediately..I have read what that anonymous user has written and I think it is 100% true and need to be in the article. So I reverted it back. Please take a look at the following points.

  • Earliest tamil inscription dated back to 11 th century and written by Great King Parakramabahu for the Indian merchants not to the Local tamils who you think were living in mass at that time
  • Jaffna kingdom survived from 13 th 16 th century..And it was an extremely minor territory.
  • Some of the invaders were not even tamil, such as kalinga maga..So do we have to add that Sri Lanka was ruled by Sinhalese, tamils and

people from Orissa ?? I think not.

  • Sri Lankan history is mainly the history of Sinhalese people..I am sorry, we can't change the history to appease certain section of the minority.
  • Also, I think the whole ethnic conflict section is tooooo long..We are a great nation and have a proud history and I am not sure why you want to give significance only to the ethnic conflict section ?? Please be noted that we already have hundreds of articles dedicated to ethnic war in wikipedia ,so can we please make Sri Lankan article to address other things ? thank you

Re:Sri Lanka[edit]

Hi Krankman, I do appreciate your efforts to improve the article, and I think we should get together with Iwazaki and other interested editors to hopefully make this a FA sometime soon.

And I do agree that the edits by the IP were POV, but at the same time, I honestly have to say that I think what you wrote was inaccurate too. The thing is, when the IP saw the section, I can understand why he disagreed with it and decided to write his interpretation of the history. Because if an inaccurate version is already on Wikipedia, what's wrong with changing it to be biased to the other side?

My opinion is this. This article is about Sri Lanka. Not about the Civil war. We already have two separate articles covering the the Origins of the Sri Lankan Civil War and the Sri Lankan Civil War itself. And I don't think most of this stuff belong in the main article.

So what I suggest we do is this. We should first remove the section from the article, and work toghether on the talk page to create a new section which is cited (very important), sticks to the facts only (no interpretations) and stays away from controversy. That way we won't have people disagreeing with it and deciding to change it to their version of the "truth". I think it should be 2 paragraphs at most - one for pre-1983 and 1 for the actual war - with links to the 2 main articles. When its done, and we all agree with it, we can move it into the main article. What do you think? --snowolfD4( talk / @ ) 17:25, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Sarath Fonseka[edit]

Yeah I know that. I wholesale copied that from and still I can't understand why I did that. These days I'm busy with Sri Lanka Army article together Snowolfd4. I tried to change the article few times. So you can find the General Fonseka on here too. It's the upgraded version of the wiki article. I have made slight changes like adding an infobox. Feel free to edit my sandbox and change that as you want. And if you want, update the wiki article as like that. --♪♫ ĽąĦĩŘǔ ♫♪ walkie-talkie 15:49, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

ummm nice work over here[1][2]. I can't add the "tra" to the "පුත" because Sinhalese Unicode doesn't support that letter. So only way that I can add that as like this "පුත්ර". --♪♫ ĽąĦĩŘǔ ♫♪ walkie-talkie 15:55, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Alright, we'll manage. :-) Let's go for the "පුත්ර" then, because without the "r/්ර" it's just not the correct word. Keep up the good work! Krankman 16:01, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. Ah one thing more. I can manage the translation works, but I'm weak in transcription works. Could you help me to sort that problem of the sub articles of Awards and decorations of the military of Sri Lanka? SInnocent.gif --♪♫ ĽąĦĩŘǔ ♫♪ walkie-talkie 16:39, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Woo-hoo, that's a lot! I'll do my best! Krankman 16:43, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, but just transcription work is much enough. I'm weak in that man Very sorry.gif. --♪♫ ĽąĦĩŘǔ ♫♪ walkie-talkie 16:56, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Etymology of Sinhala[edit]

Hi, thank you very much for taking the time to explain the possible etymology of "Sinhala." Even if the correct etymology is not 100% known, I don't agree that this information should be kept off the page, as I, for one, went there looking for it but could only find it on my "discussion" page, from you. We do include possible/probable etymologies in other pages, and in fact enriched the Hawaii page with the etymology for that language (debunking one folk etymology in the process). I believe a summary of what you told me, if properly sourced, would similarly enrich the Sinhala language page, and be of great help to people who come there looking for that information. Re: Counter?[edit]

Yeah, it should say:

vn-too many This user talk page has been vandalized too many times.

But of course, it would be too hard to keep track! I actually find most of the vandalism to my user and talk pages amusing, so don't worry. Cheers, Khoikhoi 03:39, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Re:"Censoring" Wikipedia[edit]

Hi Krankman, sorry I took long to reply. I got a few exams this week. I replied on the article talk page to you question. --snowolfD4( talk / @ ) 21:23, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Your input[edit]

An SLR article TamilNet is getting peer reviewed your input as an SLR member would be welcome to make it eventually into a featured article. Thanks RaveenS 12:35, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I removed the sentence. It was out of place. See peer review really does improves an article. I want to make it a good article next, also another SLR article is also getting peer reviewed :) RaveenS 15:06, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Lamka or Lanka?[edit]

Hi Krankman,

You just changed the name of the country in the Sri Lanka article from Lanka or Lamka. I'm not sure about the ancient name, but these days I believe (and I hope I'm right here :) that we call it lanka (like "lang-ka"), and not with an M? What do you think? --snowolfD4( talk / @ ) 19:18, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

OK, understood. That stuff is way out of my league :( But aren't we better off sticking to IPA, which is a lot more common, or at least linking to a pronunciation guide of IAST, cos if I didn't know how to pronounce it, and I read the Wiki article, I'd still think it was pronounced with an m? --snowolfD4( talk / @ ) 15:59, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: Sinhalese[edit]

I'm not sure what the controversy or problem is anyway. I mean they are just studies that support the view that the neighboring groups are related and closer than the Sinhalese are to this "Indoaryan" group, whatever that is supposed to be. I'm just trying to be neutral anyway. Ciao. Tombseye 13:47, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

Sinhala prenasalized mb[edit]

Hi, Du wirst es nicht glauben, aber gerade als ich das m von mb hochstellen wollte, kam ein Editconflict. Weil Du just in jenem Augenblick das gleiche tatest. Sachen gibts... Was machen wir eigentlich mit nj? Gibts da ueberhaupt Wörter mit? Jasy jatere 21:54, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

Hihi, Erster!

Nalanda College[edit]

Hey! Your edits to the article were reverted. I find the article as it is unacceptable, almost a mockery to WP. Just wanted to let you know I am with you on shortening it as you have and possibly taking other measures in ensuring it isn't turned into a list of unnotable people again and again. Cheers, Krankman 15:32, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I made an entry on the talk page about it and also reverted it to the previous version before the revert, including a summary explanation. The reverter was an IP with only two edits. Hopefully the talk page note and summary will slow someone from being so quick to revert it again. --Lendorien 21:12, 8 May 2007 (UTC)
Oops, they've done it again ... :-) I think the editor(s) in concern don't even know there is a discussion page! We should contact an admin and ask for the page to be semi-protected. I am now sure that that will be the only way to keep the page halfway encyclopedic. What do you think? Cheers, Krankman 09:58, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, I've reverted it again, but if it gets hit again, we'll hit the three revert rule. This time they didn't even bother to transfer any of the aditional information provided by another user (though said content looks like copy-vio fromt he tone). I would suspect that the user in question is the same one, working from a dynamic IP address or something. As far as protecting it, I'll let you do as you see best on that. --Lendorien 17:59, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
He did it again. I requested the protection. Could you revert the page, or post on the talk page so it doesn't look like I'm the only one with a beef? --Lendorien 20:37, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
I have also requested protection (see here), from Dbachmann, and I have just added a comment on the discussion page. We'll get there! Cheers, Krankman 21:39, 15 May 2007 (UTC)

Could please care to answer my point ?? How come it become a Stata Terrorism ,when obviously State As a whole had nothing towith it.Not only that, non of the mentioned incidents are belong to State terorism..I dont mind, calling them Human right violations, since it is obvious in these cases, BUT state terrorism ??! nah...13:09, 11 May 2007 (UTC)Iwazaki 会話。討論

Ok..lets start from your last sentences,by looking at your edit history i dont think you will be a help..Please elaborate this in a coherent manner, I am more than happy to lend my ears to listen what you have against me.You are absolutely wrong about the GOSL involvement in all cases. Did you know that there is are court cases against many of the mentioned incidents ? Did you know it was the GOSL who file those cases ?? Hello Krankman,

Firstly, my apologies for the delay in progress on this case, as explained at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Sri Lankan Civil War.

I am writing to you because, as a party to this case, your input is required before mediation can begin, to do with an offer by an experienced non-Committee member to mediate. Please see the Parties' agreement to WJBscribe's offer section and provide your input, so that this case can progress. Voting will remain open for seven days, and further elaboration is provided at that link.

I was holding off further discussion in this mediation until the outcome of the deletion debate on Commons. IPA transcription of ඇ[edit]

Hi Krankman. According to IPA translation, Sinhala ඇ should be transcripted as [ɛ] or as [æ]? I believed it was the second one; in Italian we have the sound [ɛ] (called open e), that is different from Sinhala ඇ. But reading the article about Sinhala alphabet, I saw a different IPA rendering. Suggestions? Stuti, Paryeshakaya 07:50, 30 July 2007 (UTC)

Hey Paryeshakaya!
I have no scientifically founded answer to your question, but from my experience and my own "research" on the topic, I think we need to give the sound as [æ], because it's more open than [ɛ]. Don't you think? We have [ɛ] in German as well, and the Sinhala sound is different and closer towards [a]. Kamak nä, Krankman 13:46, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
I fully agree with you, it is [æ]. I suggest to update the article on Sinhala alphabet. Paryeshakaya 19:28, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

To clarify, this is what the study in the reference had to say:

"The study of genetic admixture revealed that the Sinhalese of Sri Lanka have a higher contribution from the Tamils of southern India (69.86% +/- 0.61) " Therefore, the Sinhalese must have been mixing with Indian tamils. Regards,
