Hey, I'm really sorry about deleting the template without substing it in your userspace first. I'm trying to subst it in your userspace and it doesn't seem to be working. If there's something about cite templates that prevents them from being substed, would you want to just move the template to your userspace? Peace, delldot ∇. 06:03, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Hm, I see you haven't edited in a bit and I need to get to bed. So I'm hoping moving it to your userspace is ok. If not definitely let me know and I'll fix it tomorrow. Peace, delldot ∇. 06:11, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Template assistance request: Template:Neighboring hoods[edit]

Howdy. The template above (of which I know little) is used on a few hundred pages to give little directional maps. It also seems to be the source of some weird red links I've been chasing down - see here for some examples. Template markup's not far short of bracket-riddled gibberish to me - any chance you could cast an eye over it and suppress the dodgy links please? - TB (talk) 17:10, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Hello Topbanana...I will eyeball it a bit and see what is going on with it, however, it appears this template is for a specific location in the U.S. (the D.C. area). Is this template going to be put into wider circulation once it is fixed and working? LA (T) @ 08:00, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
No idea as to the template's provenance or goals, only that it's the source of a few hundred weird-looking red links. From the history it looks like a pet project of User:Blahblah29; if it's useful it'll propagate I'm sure and find a wider use. All the better if it's tidied up before this happens. Cheers. - TB (talk) 14:17, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
Wow, did you really bring me a hard one. I will do what I can to help, but I am a bit rusty so it may take me a day or so. LA (T) @ 20:24, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Wikipedia Reviewer.svg

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. MBisanz talk 02:17, 20 June 2010 (UTC)

A voice from the past[edit]

Hello, my lady! I don't know if you remember me - I was the unwitting enthusiast who worked on the Films based on books project over 2 years ago. I've been inactive for a while but would like to offer my assistance with that project or any other that you think needs help. I hope we can still be friends. Cheers, Pegship (talk) 20:46, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Peg...I have nearly quit all together. I have gotten involved with my own personal projects. I haven't even looked at Films based on books in as many years. Out work could be totally devastated by now. I have gotten tired of the politics that one has to go through here to get anything done these days. It has stopped being a fun endeavor. I check back here every once in a while to see if I have any messages, but most of them these days are about my work getting deleted which is really upsetting. I hope you are well. LA (T) @ 22:00, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm doing OK. I moved on to other pursuits and I know I won't be involved as intensely as before on WP. Good move on your part, finding other projects; I wish you well with 'em. Cheers, Pegship (talk) 22:32, 4 April 2011 (UTC)
Pegs...feel free to e-mail me anytime. I have my e-mail attached to my WP account. Let's try to keep in touch off wiki maybe? LA (T) @ 11:26, 16 April 2011 (UTC)

Suggestion for WikiProject United States to support WikiProject Maryland[edit]

It was recently suggested that WikiProject Maryland might be inactive or semiactive and it might be beneficial to include it in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States. User reading categories...[edit]

By the way, why should the reading-xxx categories have been deleted?

I was a use template activist, until I lost the battle. I tend to put myself in categories that aren't created to just do it. You should look at my other subpages. :)

National Archives ExtravaSCANza[edit]

You are invited to the National Archives ExtravaSCANza, taking place every day next week from January 4–7, Wednesday to Saturday, in College Park, Maryland (Washington, DC metro area). Come help me cap off my stint as Wikipedian in Residence at the National Archives with one last success!

This will be a casual working event in which Wikipedians are getting together to scan interesting documents at the National Archives related to a different theme each day—currently: spaceflight, women's suffrage, Chile, and battleships—for use on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons. The event is being held on multiple days, and in the evenings and weekend, so that as many locals and out-of-towners from nearby regions1 as possible can come. Please join us! 1 Wikipedians from DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Newark, New York City, and Pittsburgh have been invited.

Invitation to events: bot, template, and Gadget makers wanted[edit]

I thought you might want to know about some upcoming events where you can learn more about MediaWiki customization and development, extending functionality with JavaScript, the future of ResourceLoader and Gadgets, the new Lua templating system, how to best use the web API for bots, and various upcoming features and changes. We'd love to have power users, bot maintainers and writers, and template makers at these events so we can all learn from each other and chat about what needs doing.

Check out the Chennai event in March, the Berlin hackathon in June, the developers' days preceding Wikimania in July in Washington, DC, or any other of our events.

Best wishes! - Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation's Volunteer Development Coordinator. Please reply on my talk page, here or at Sumanah (talk) 15:15, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

God of Shamisen[edit]

One of the members of the band God of Shamisen contacted me yesterday asking my help to figure out why the article on his band was deleted since the band had an unusual lead instrument, the shamisen. Also, I have been told the band has had write ups in several newspapers. The band has released albums since the article was deleted. I would like to look at the article, the history, and talk pages to see what was written, who wrote it, and what could be done to add to it to make it a worthwhile article for Wikipedia, if possible. He also told me that the band leader's article was not deleted, which made him wonder why the band's article was deleted.

The the e-mail from the band member was a total surprise to me; I don't even know him. He's a friend of a follower of mine on Twitter. As I haven't been around Wikipedia in a while, I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing here. LA (T) @ 04:59, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

I've userfied it to User:Lady Aleena/God of Shamisen so you can take a look. It was deleted in 2007 (!) for lack of notability, they hadn't produced an album at that point so that was likely a sensible call at the time. I haven't looked for sources, but if the band now has sources that meet WP:GNG, I don't see why the article couldn't be rewritten. I'm off to bed, but let me know if you decide to work on the article, or alternatively let me know if it's time to put it back in the archives. Thanks! --j⚛e deckertalk 07:07, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
I've had to comment out one or two things to keep the userfiied articles from being put into categories, FYI. --j⚛e deckertalk 07:10, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

User page red links[edit]

I'm part of a group working their way through red-linked categories. Right now there's only your user page standing between me and drawing a line under the Category:WikiProject * participants, but much though it pains me I will respect your request not to remove those red links myself. However, can I politely request a few adjustments?

I haven't got started on the Category:Wikipedians... yet, but I've got my eye on them. Given past discussions I'd suggest that you're much more likely to get "interested in" categories than "plays" or "uses" categories - that just seems to be the way Wikipedia is being standardised.(sic) Just speaking personally, I'm not too keen on "cards", it would be better expressed as individual games IMHO. Cheers. Le Deluge (talk) 23:51, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

Le Deluge, I am so glad you actually took time to read and see I want to preserve the red linked categories into which I put myself when you stopped by my user page. I have been fighting a war against bots for years now. Also, I have not been here for a while, so I had to go find the ones removed.
Now, I have done you the favor of removing all of the WikiProject categories from my user page. I have not done any work on Wikipedia for a very long time other than updating my user page to keep it current. If you look back in my edits, you may see my argument against members in favor of participants. Sure, I was a member of all of those projects, but I have not participated in so long they have surely forgotten me.
All of these categories being moved to interested in show how passive Wikipedia has become. I am more than interested in some subjects, I interact with some with them in an action verb way. I know I will lose the battle against interested in.
I am for standardization on Wikipedia. I have tried on many occasions to standardize this or that with little success. However, it does not mean I am for the direction the standardization is leaning towards. Instead of making Wikipedia more active by allowing action verbs in places like user categories, Wikipedia is sliding towards passivity. LA (T) @ 10:01, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
PS. You could read Categories for discussion/User/Genre and media categories & it's talk page to see my opinion on user categories. LA (T) @ 11:57, 25 February 2013 (UTC)
