Disambiguation link notification for January 30[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of universities and higher education colleges in London, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page St. Anthony's Hospital (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

DYK for Insert Name Here[edit]

Launchballer, I've just deleted the notification that was here because it was posted in error—the admin who pulled the hook from queue neglected to also pull the DYKmake template. I've also pulled the notification from the article's talk page.

There has been a review at the nomination's template, with significant reservations expressed. You'll want to go there as soon as you can. Thanks, and apologies for the erroneous posting. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:51, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

The reviewer has raised further issues with the proposed hook at Template:Did you know nominations/For What It's Worth (game show), Insert Name Here. Please stop by as soon as possible. Thank you. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:55, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

Bryony Kimmings[edit]

Hello Lunchballer:

The copy edit you requested from the Guild of Copy Editors of the article Bryony Kimmings has been completed.

I leave it to others whether or not it should be the subject of a deletion discussion.

You will notice that I archived one of the article’s citations (#1). If you want to be bothered, I suggest that you archive the rest of the article’s URLs as time allows. This ensures that the article's references are available "forever" and that it doesn’t develop “dead links” over time. The site I use is https://archive.org/web/. Simply copy the URL in the citation and paste it in the “Save Page Now” box on the archive.org site and click save. This creates a copy of the original page and provides you with a new URL to add to the original citation. If you look at the URL I've archived you'll see the syntax. You add the new URL to the end of the original citation like this: |archiveurl=http etc|archivedate=18 June 2016}}. Not all websites allow archiving - CBS TV news and the NY Times are two I've come across, so there's not much you can do about that unless there is an alternate citation you could use.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind regards,

Twofingered Typist (talk) 20:07, 18 June 2016 (UTC)

Ah, I haven't been called Lunchballer since I was a member of the Sonic News Network. (And if you want to know when that was, check the page's deletion log.) I am already familiar with that website, but have no intention of archiving any further webpages - if CBS et al don't like having their name in bibliographies that's their prerogative, and if I was vaguely interested I'm fairly sure there is a bot I can let do its worst on the page.--Launchballer 21:04, 18 June 2016 (UTC)

Discogs[edit]

Hi there Lunchballer! Say I wanted to talk to you about the use of Discogs and get some advice. I've been running into situations where I need information off an actual album and don't happen to own it or have access to it--it's usually either for songwriters' credits or for record company information. I've been using Discogs as a source for this if I can't find it anywhere else because most of the time the info on Discogs is repeated off of an album, oftentimes verbatim. I would like to keep using Discogs for info on the actual LP if I could as a last resort because it is easy for people to check. That said, if you have any other ideas or better ways to source this (maybe there is a way to source the album cover itself?) I would be happy to do those instead. For the time being I reverted the edit because otherwise some of the info is unsourced but please let me know what suggestions you have. Keyboard warrior killer (talk) 16:09, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

Bloody Lunchballer. The thing with Discogs is anybody can edit any entry, making it manifestly unreliable for everything. I would suggest using another site such as ratemymusic.com (or whatever it's called) otherwise cleanse it from the article.--Launchballer 16:20, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

List of Mock the Week Episodes[edit]

I can't accept your revision - Another reason there is no notable relevance to the score info is that the show does not use the format of "Team Captains"; Hugh Dennis is mentioned as one only in publicity material, but on the show, he is never mentioned as one, nor whoever is in the centre seat of the right team. Thus, the information on wins and such like has no proper notability whatsoever, especially as the show is more about improve comedy and stand-up than a serious competition. The article is fine if only to list the guest performers for an episode in a series. GUtt01 (talk) 16:30, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

@Launchballer: Man... Why did I revert that guy's revisions? I apologise for acting the way that I did, but he is basically stating that there should be consensus on this, yet I don't know what this would achieve. I simply was correcting the article by removing information that lacked any notability whatsoever. Did you know that Cwmxii has also requested protection of the page as well, right after yours? GUtt01 (talk) 17:40, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

GUtt01 Cwmxii was adding a report manually, so it's likely he was edit conflicted (I used Twinkle). Having been blocked twice in 2013/2014 for edit warring, I do understand that it can be a heat-of-the-moment thing. That said, I do agree that although the show is not intended as a serious competition, many people have said that they won't do it because it feels like one. In addition, scores are given at the end of the episode, which I would argue are worth a mention. If you disagree with describing Hugh et al as 'team captains', how would you identify the teams? Dara's left and right?--Launchballer 17:51, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
@Launchballer: Dara doesn't actually mentions scores at all in the show. When a round is over, Dara declares who wins by simply saying "The points for this round go to (names of performers who Dara judged were best)", while he ends the show by simply saying who the winner is without mentioning scores at all. He generally ends with "This week's winners are (name of performers on the team that won). Commiserations to (names of performers who lost)." There is no mention of scores whatsoever (Dara, as I recall, called it "bullshit"), and the person sitting in the centre is never called the 'team captain'; that's only in publicity material, but even then, it's never used as such in the show. There is no need to call a team, "Hugh's Team; Andy's Team"; I think Left team and Right Team is sufficient. GUtt01 (talk) 17:57, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
Oooh, I hate square bracket abuse. I also use WP:Syntaxhighlight, which that wrecks havoc on… Although no scores are mentioned explicitly, I would argue that winners are declared, and deserves a mention - even if for no other reason than the colours make the tables look prettier.--Launchballer 18:09, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
I don't know. Maybe the colours should just be the same, but different for each series. As for wins, surely that information could just be passed over to the main article, and just list the wins of the members who were permanent panellists on their tenure with the show? I would go with that, not stating Series wins. I mean, for shows like HIGNFY and Never Mind the Buzzcocks, I would not argue against such information, but possibly against it being in an article that is meant to list episodes. I also do not understand why we need the pictures in it; I believe they serve a better purpose in the main article. But I do approve you putting in some protection on the page because of the dispute between myself and Cwmxii. I have sent a message to another user (a third party), to see what they think and let me know of their views on the matter as well. GUtt01 (talk) 18:16, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
The wins table at the bottom might well do with being put over on to the main article (to be honest I'm not sure it'd be worthwhile on either) but I do agree that the two pictures shouldn't be there, and I've taken them out. (Let's see how long they stay out for.)--Launchballer 18:29, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
@Launchballer:I guess the Wins table needs some serious consensus for the time being; I personally don't agree with it, but that's just me. But thanks for seeing my view on the pictures. As for the tables, I had further thought. I believe that each should stick to a coloured background, or coloured table headers, that are different for each series. I also believe that for each series, instead of "Hugh's Team" and "Andy's Team" (for example), it should be headed as "With Frankie Boyle and Hugh Dennis", and so forth. What do you think?GUtt01 (talk) 18:51, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
@Launchballer: Just added a discussion matter about this information, on the talk page for Mock the Week. GUtt01 (talk) 19:13, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
(ec) What you're suggesting sounds a bit bright/confusing, though I can agree with "Left team (with Frankie Boyle and Hugh Dennis)" et al - but only if that team member appears in every episode in that series. As for the actual inclusion of wins, well, I'm afraid I do agree with their inclusion and you might need a more thorough discussion to establish a consensus on that.--Launchballer 19:16, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
@Launchballer: I did just added a subject on the matter. Check the talk page of the article for Mock the Week. GUtt01 (talk) 19:18, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Hello Launchballer, thank you for your help. I understand that a working a single-purpose account WP:SPA does not necessarily indicate a conflict of interest. The WP:SPA is not the subject whom I discuss above in relation to WP:COI, WP:FCOI. I do agree with you, let sleeping dogs lie with the WP:SPA. A small adjustment in their approach is all that is really required there. I am still in need some advice regarding the subject of WP:COI concerns and have placed another help me on my talk page. I'm having problems with my AWB. I want to clear up all the disambiguation links to ITV I've added over the course of the last week and a bit through lazy copying and pasting of references. I'm clicking Done, and it isn't doing anything. What am I doing wrong?--Launchballer 13:55, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

How are you doing the find and replace? Do you have the list of articles loaded into AWB? -- samtar talk or stalk 14:59, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
I'd loaded it, I'd hit start and I was on a screen with "Abort/Cancel/Done" on it. However, the job has since been done.--Launchballer 18:21, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

Possible RfA and my view[edit]

Hi there. I was notified about a discussion between you, Diannaa, and Kudpung at User talk:Diannaa#CSD.

I see you are considering RfA. I do not vote at RfA anymore, but may at yours. Your name reminded me of something. Although three years ago, I feel that this thread showed evasiveness, unresponsiveness, and a lack of fair dealing that would be completely unacceptable by an admin. If it was some emotional outburst three years ago, that would be fine. But you were a 17-year-old grown up then and had been at Wikipedia for four years. To me, this is a character issue that three years on a calendar is not likely to have changed. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 05:13, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Which is precisely one of the reasons why I suggested you post a request at WP:RFAP which is a safe and humane place and which does everything Anna expected it to when she created it. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 07:00, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Thank you, Kudpung กุดผึ้ง. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:13, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Launchballer, I am not trying to be mean. You are probably a wonderful editor. I am simply saying that, considering the thread in question, it would be very hard for me, and likely others, to support (or even not oppose) your becoming an administrator. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 07:12, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

I was 18 at the time, although the point stands, and I am autistic, and as such I grew up fairly slowly up until about two months after that thread, when my mother passed and I grew up very quickly. I have been practicing interacting with other users by answering helpme requests.--Launchballer 10:25, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
I understand, my friend. But, honestly, RfA can really be a crusher. If you do not pass, I worry it might lead to your quitting, which would be terrible.
I know that SPI was when you were thirteen, but !voters will find that level of lying shocking nevertheless. That, along with the thread I point out, and your AfD calls being around 50-50 of getting it right, passing an RfA would be a longshot, not a coin flip (in my humble view). Look at User:Oshwah. This fellow is practically a model editor and all around mensch. He was a little short on content contribs and once did a NAC unblock request and 63 people rained opposes down on him for it. How many opposes would your transgressions garner? Remember, when a !voter decides, it has a double impact. Opposes usually mean a missing support !vote. When opposes are many, supports are few at the same time. Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:38, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
I see. Would it be worth leaving it another year, and being upfront in my RfA about it when I do eventually apply?--Launchballer 23:11, 3 September 2016 (UTC)
I may be completely wrong, but your past may doom any RfA anytime within the next few years or longer.
Being up front is a gesture (but not necessarily an indication) of honesty and forthcomingness. Whether they find the facts by digging or you presenting them, they speak loudly -- louder, and in contradiction to that gesture. Many people feel that once a liar, always a liar. A history of lying will probably put many in the "no way, never" camp at an RfA. This is just my opinion. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:31, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Stephen Foxwell[edit]

Not really achieved anything notable.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
