Invite to the African Destubathon

Hi. You might be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most geography, wildlife and women articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African Olympians and sportspeople, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African sportspeople etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:47, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

About "Such is Life in the Tropics"

Hi Lugnuts, My name is Arturo Yépez, I am the producer of Sin Muertos No Hay Carnaval, ecuadorian feature film that was called, during development "Such is Life In the Tropics". The feature has been submitted by the country to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science for the Best Foreign Language Film award as Sin Muertos No Hay Carnaval, and it's not called any more Such is Life.... Could you please change that data in your articles? Thanks in advance

A tag has been placed on Alina Janowska, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

  • It is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. (See section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Wikipedia has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Wikipedia:Stub. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
  • It is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. (See section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Wikipedia has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Wikipedia:Stub. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

film release dates in infoboxes

Regarding this edit, I thought that since the film is a Canadian-Irish coproduction, the infobox should have its world premiere date, its Canadian premiere date, and its Irish premiere date. Is that not correct? I'm wondering why you removed the Canadian premiere date. Mathew5000 (talk) 08:01, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

Thanks Sander. An under-represented area in the cricket world, although I've made a start! I'll take a look and see which ones will be notable. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 13:02, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
Ahh I see! Great job already. As WP:NCRIC states: have been played at the highest international or domestic level I think they are all notable, as in a year of the World Cup there is not a World Twenty20 competition. Apart from that, from the most recent one (2013) all players have been created and from the other years there are <10 red links per edition. If they are all notable, will it be a good idea adding the Women's Cricket World Cup and Women's World Twenty20 as a women's example to WP:NCRIC? Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 13:12, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
@Sander.v.Ginkel: As long as they've played a match, they'll pass WP:NCRIC. Sometimes people are picked for squads without playing, but if I find any of them, I'll take a further look. I've started the ball rolling with two missing Dutch cricketers (seemed only fair! :D) - Irene Schoof and Liesbeth Vernout. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 13:14, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

Your BLP living dead template

How did I not know this existed until now? I see it's only used on 31 articles, though I imagine there must be many more wherein it applies. How are you finding such articles? I wonder if there is a systematic approach that can be used for comparison between language wikis? --Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 17:25, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

@Ponyo: - I created it a while back when this page was updated on a daily basis by a bot. Sadly, that stopped happening a year or two ago. In it's "prime" that template was on 200+ articles, and I posted on many projects (subject areas, country areas, etc) to get help from people who knew the subject area to reduce the issue. IIRC, the football project had tons of individuals who were alive on EN, but dead on other languages. For the future? See this talkpage post and this report I ran from said discussion that has living/dead mis-matches from Wikidata. It's a starting point and I try to work through a few mis-matches each day to clear it. Thanks for your interest. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 17:46, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
For info, here's the post I made on the Footy project. A quick check through them show most of them were fixed. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 18:01, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

Half a job

"Half a job" was not a nice comment, but the correction made me laugh out loud! Thanks for providing the other half. Cheers, Joshua Jonathan -Let's talk! 18:07, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

@Joshua Jonathan: And it's rude to revert edits, esp. when there's a potential BLP violation. Saying "any doubts?" doesn't cut it, if there aren't any sources to back it up. I won't point out the irony of you having a userbox that says "This user believes in using Reliable Sources" when there wasn't one for the subjects death. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 18:10, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, I understand. But you could have checked the data, instead of removing them. After I noticed your removal, I first looked up the man, to see if he was dead or not, and if it was the same person (someone could have confused two persons with the same name); then I reverted, and there-after I added the sources, to distinguish the two edits (which took me two minutes to type and check again). Anyway, the change from "is" to "was" fitted the remark "half a job" very nicely. Joshua Jonathan -Let's talk! 18:33, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer granted

Hello Lugnuts. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator.

information Administrator note You have been grandfathered to this group based on prior patrolling activity - the technical flag for the group will be added to your account after the next software update. You do not need to apply at WP:PERM. 20:56, 28 October 2016 (UTC)

Dear Mr. Lugnuts,

Whenever I post any information, you firstly revert it calling it as unsourced. When the source is shared, you say it is not important. This is not good. If anything is not important, at the first point itself say it is unimportant and stop wasting others' time. I have added the source. Humbly request you not to delete it again.

Hyena Road

I changed the plot description as you suggested ... seperating out the description from the critique. You have also removed the non-Canadian actors names that I added. I can't see why you would want to do that. The names are correct. The plot is also very complex (it is 3 stories in one, plus the story of the road) ... I have shortened it, but that required leaving out half of the plot. I am happy for you (or anyone else) to change the plot that I put forward but complete delition seems excessive. The actual Wikipedia entry on the movie was very limited compared with most other movie entries, ie, there was no plot outline and half the actors were not listed (I haven't added all the actors because I did not know anything about the others) Can you please revise but not delete completely. Russell miles (talk) 14:00, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

I am wondering if you actually saw the film by your plot summary. Can you advise where you got this information? Russell1960 (talk) 20:23, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

Lugnuts/Ferret, I assume you are the same person. A first name might help so I can follow your conversation.

I do find your approach odd. But that is your thing.

I am certainly dissapointed that you just copied my original work without attribution. I assumed you might do that so had added a few factual errors to my original plotline to see what yiu might do. As you just copied one of these errors in your edit, it confirmed to me that you have no knowledge on the film you choose to make an entry. Again, I am interested in what motivates you to make entries on topic you are not interetested in or have any knowledge. I can understand if you like to edit and correct things for form, but not wholesale deletions.

I'd quite like the item to remain as it is. I can't inagine many will evey lookup this obscure movie.I only watched as I am a fan of the Director Paul Gross. I guess other fans might see your entry and that you just make up stuff. I'll leave this for now as it has become to petty for me. If myfractured ribs have me unable to sleep tonight, I might add some random edit to see what you do there. My assumption is you like editing and deleting things the robot throughs up. What topics most interst you, what is your professional bbackgroun? Russell Russell1960 (talk) 23:59, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

I believe it should be "Rishabh Pant scored India's fastest first-class hundred." instead of "Rishabh Pant scored the fastest first-class hundred by an Indian player." 2nd line can be used if any Indian person plays in county cricket and scores a ton in lesser balls then the Indian record.

2014–16 ICC Women's Championship

Looking at the table for the 2014–16 ICC Women's Championship, my mathematics suggests that it is still mathematically possible (although highly unlikely given the doubts over the India–Pakistan series and their poor net run rate) for Pakistan to qualify, given that if they were to play and win all their games, they'd finish on 20 points, the same as New Zealand (who won't have gained any points if they lose all their games to Pakistan), whilst if West Indies beat India (and if Pakistan beat India in all three matches) then India would finish on 15 and if Australia beat South Africa in all three matches, then South Africa would finish on 17, meaning it would be between New Zealand and Pakistan (depending on NRR?) battling for the final spot. Was there confirmation of anything saying that Pakistan couldn't qualify (i.e. is my maths really off) or has someone been a bit hasty there?

Joalhe1997 (talk) 13:01, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi @Joalhe1997: I think it's down to someone being a bit hasty (although probably correct in the long-run). This edit was done to eliminate Pakistan, but technically they could still qualify. Feel free to remove the highlighting until it's confirmed. Thanks. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 13:11, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

Not every little bit of useless trivia needs to be repeated and added to articles. Just because it's recorded, doesn't mean it needs repeating here. Keep it up, and I'll view your edits as disruption. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 08:19, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

I have an intent to contribute, but need to understand the issue with the above one. On what grounds are you regarding this as useless? Vikram Maingi (talk) 08:21, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

See WP:CRUFT. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 08:22, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

Gone through the links sent by you, but I still cannot understand on how can one use the word shitty in this forum. Will really appreciate if you explain this as well.

Vikram Maingi (talk) 09:03, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

You're just adding pointless trivia for the sake of it. If it was the highest 6th wicket partnership ever then that might be worth mentioning. But the highest on that ground by a visiting team doesn't even warrant mentioning in the article for the ground itself. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 09:06, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

Thats fine Lugnuts. I buy the point the trivia is not very important but does that allow you use abusive or non-parliamentary words like shitty is a forum that can be read by everybody??

Nomination of Fenna Vanhoutte for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Fenna Vanhoutte is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fenna Vanhoutte until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Evan Daniel Collett 15:34, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Fenna Vanhoutte requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Proposed deletion of Rodolfo Arena

The article Rodolfo Arena has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article of Brazilian actor without trust and independent sources. IMDB isn't a trust source.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. User group: New Page Reviewr

Hello Lugnuts.

Based on the patrols you made of new pages during a qualifying period in 2016, your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed.

New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:34, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Film release dates

That policy you link to says "If other release dates are found to be notable, it may be appropriate to include them in the main body of the article (example).", so I don't know why you'd revert that part. But also, it specifically says the infobox shouldn't be cluttered with release dates for every country; one single global release date isn't cluttering the infobox, so should that policy apply in this circumstance?--occono (talk) 19:09, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

We don't put "worldwide" release dates, just the first release (say a festival) and then the first domestic release dates for the county that produced the film. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 19:18, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter

Hello Lugnuts,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 818 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

A tag has been placed on Chromium (film) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a musical recording which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article has never existed, has been deleted or is eligible for deletion itself. Old Olympians

Hi Lugnuts, you are indicating at User:Lugnuts/Olympics Progress there are Lots of possibly non-notable athletes with no other details apart from their name, in most cases, just their surname. I agree creating a page is questionalbe but becauce they meet N:SPORTS I think it would be value if they can be found. What do you thinks of this solution for he people who participated in 1 event: I take for instance Luquetas (profile) from Fencing at the 1900 Summer Olympics – Men's épée. I agree having no wikilink on the page, but creating the redirect Luquetas (or Luquetas (fencer)) redirecting to Fencing at the 1900 Summer Olympics – Men's épée and adding the appropriate categories to the redirect like Category:Fencers at the 1900 Summer Olympics and Category:Olympic fencers of France. See: Draft:Luquetas. What do you think? Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 12:30, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi Sander. I think that original note was for more for me to avoid creating biographies on people such as Luquetas, to avoid lots of wasted time at WP:AFD. Although, I think it would end in keep (or possibly redirect/merge), most people would argue that if you don't even know the person's full name, then they can't be notable. Personally, I don't agree with that, as anyone who's appeared at the Olympics would be notable (regardless of what we know about them today). A like-for-like comparision would be one of my other areas of interest: cricket. This individual has virtually nothing known about him, but easily passes the notability for a cricketer. Back to the Olympics, the great thing is that more info about "unknown" people is being found all the time. Some of those people who are listed on the 1900 épée page with just surnames, now have their full names. As time goes by, more info is found. I have no objection to stubs or redirects being created for the people with just surnames. Sorry to ramble a bit - hope that helps! Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 12:46, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Stubs or no stubs

Hi Lugnuts, recently I created some footballers with an outdated reference or a wrong linked reference. I know I was wrong with this, and won't do it again. As Fram started following my edits he listed all of the mistakes and errors I made. Good that someone noticed them, but in my opion he overdid everything, just wanting to annoy and not to help. However things, escalated and now they want to stop me for creating stubs. Many admins are replying only to the negative part Fram stated. As I know you know me longer than a month and I know you've seen mistakes I made but I think you've also seen probably a lot of positive stubs, I want to ask you if you think it's the best way to abandon me from making stubs. I would appriciate what your real opition is at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Proposal. Thanks, Sander.v.Ginkel (Talk) 12:35, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

Falsely accused as sockpuppet of padmalakshmisx

Dear admin,

I was initially not aware in the year 2010, that sockpuppet is against policies of wikipedia, when i first created a account when my account padmalakshmisx was blocked for edit warring.

I am here to improve several articles on wikipedia, why are you restricting my editorial freedom like this? I have certain resources and editorial skills that other established editors lack. In fact I can help you administrators with my skills. I am not creating multiple users to abuse wikipedia. I am creating multiple users because you are not allowing me to edit.

You please remember this username (allowmetoedit), and allow me to edit wikipedia for 15 days and see the difference. I am willing to resolve this issue once and for all. I have also requested wikipedia arbitration committe several times. Apart from user padmalaskhmisx all the socks of padmalakshmisx never abused wikipedia. Kindly restore the articles created by me.

Please look for some kind of resolution.

I request you to combine all sockpuppet accounts of padmalakshmisx into one account, I will provide you with my photo ID proof.Allowmeotoedit (talk) 08:44, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

AN post

Whether someone has retired or not is not something that requires admin intervention, or posts on an admin noticeboard. As you know, in this instance if they have genuinely stopped editing their various advanced permissions will eventually be revoked from inactivity (a couple of months for functionary permissions, a year for admin). If you think they should be removed before this, you would need to lodge a case request for Arbcom; it's not something that can be resolved at AN/ANI. -- Euryalus (talk) 19:27, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Thanks. So @Euryalus: how long would that take to get resolved at Arbcom? I'm betting on "a couple of months", if at all. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 19:28, 18 December 2016 (UTC)
You'd get a pretty swift answer on a case request, but if a case was accepted then yes, it would take at least a month to resolve. Arbcom processes take too long, but there is still some merit in taking a little time to deliberate. Not seeing why that's a problem in this case - by itself the current dispute doesn't warrant tool removal, and if there's evidence of a longer-term pattern then that will still be valid next month, or when/if any case request is made. -- Euryalus (talk) 21:29, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Norman Cush

Hello Lugnuts,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Norman Cush for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

Ahhhh boo-hoo. Tough. Read WP:FILMRELEASE and stop moaning. Lugnuts Precious bodily fluids 08:16, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
I don't think Wikipedia mandates everyone read every policy on the site before contributing something, so I don't think that attitude is warranted. I think that policy merits a rewrite, because "The film infobox is too small to reproduce the long lists of release dates provided by sources such as the Internet Movie Database." is from before the global releases of films that Netflix started doing....or even before Netflix, I'm sure independant video on demand films also were doing. I would think a global release date does not go against the intention of that policy. I guess if the wording of that policy is strict, fine, but I was under the impression you could contribute without having read every policy on this volunteer website and have it be corrected politely. Whatever, you are correct to fix it, sorry for the undo.--occono (talk) 21:43, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
