Welcome!

Hello, MRacer, Welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope you like working here and want to continue. If you need help on how to name new articles, look at Naming Conventions, and for help on formatting the pages visit the Manual of Style. If you need general help, look at Help and the FAQ, and if you can't find your answer there, check the Village pump (for Wikipedia related questions) or the Reference Desk (for general questions). There's still more help at the Tutorial and the Policy Library. Also, don't forget to visit the Community Portal — and if you have any more questions after that, feel free to post them on my New-Users' Talk Page.
Additional tips:
Here are some extra tips to help you get around Wikipedia:
  • If you made any edits before you got an account, you might be interested in assigning those to your username.
  • If you want to play around with your new Wiki skills, try the Sandbox.
  • Click on the Edit button on a page, and look at how other editors did what they did.
  • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too. Always sign comments on Talk pages, never sign Articles.
  • You might want to add yourself to the New User Log
  • If your first language isn't English, try Wikipedia:Contributing to articles outside your native language
Happy editing!

Barnstar-life.png An Award
I award you this The Barnstar of Life for your excellent work in developing the University of Teesside article, keeping it NPOV and free from vandals. The JPS 11:44, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

My most fervent gratitude to you, The JPS (as 'M' gleams ludicrously). Something tells me a notification is enough, while we just continue bearing fruit. ;)

Invite to WikiProject World Rally[edit]

Stephane Sarrazain, Monte Carlo 2005 Hello, and thank you for your contributions on articles related to rallying. I'd like to invite you to become a part of WikiProject World Rally, a new WikiProject aiming to improve coverage of World Rally Championship and related articles on Wikipedia.

As you can see from the image on the left, we haven't achieved a four-wheel-drive yet. If you would like to help out and participate, please visit the project page for more information. Thanks, Prolog 04:57, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

The Bus Line Article[edit]

I'm sorry I reverted your edit to that article. I read over what I reverted then realized it had a LOT of POV issues, so I reverted again. Again, sawwy bout dat ;). -Amaraiel 22:22, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

No problem, although of course having seen the sudden return before my very eyes of what I, personally, could only perceive to have been the most abject and brattish of (presumably 'local lad' originated) vandalisms... I was sufficiently concerned for a span of about thirty seconds while I waited for whatever other oddity of a development would next arise, lol. I am a philosophically-minded moderate so I'll skirt clear, however, of venturing so far as to question the 'notability' of that article as I may also have been tempted to do. "Alrite buses"... I'll have to take up closer scrutiny of that one myself, heh. :) MRacer 22:29, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Colin McRae[edit]

The Colin McRae article received heavy editing today by new/unregistered users, which I noticed at WikiRage.com. The article may benefit from a good review. According to Wikipedia Page History Statistics, you are one of the top contributors to that page. If you have the time, would you please read over the article and make any necessary changes. Thanks. -- Jreferee (Talk) 07:28, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

I'll keep tabs. Any issues with the article as such, certainly in terms of the different parameters of reliability/verifiability, depth, etc. remain largely the same as at any time immediately prior to his death and in any case, notwithstanding the sheer statistics, in its essence it appears to me to be an essentially stable article. I suppose the main issue with regards the regrettable death is to ensure all mention integrates with the article and that, to this end, the date possibly comes first so as to avoid the whole 'Oh look, suddenly there's been a death, lets suddenly switch a few tenses here and shunt in some haphazard and incongruent section about death at the end here somehow'. Something, on further scrutiny thankfully tells me that I think that has been assured. MRacer 18:03, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Former Glory is rich for that page. The page was not over simplified it removed peacock and weasel words and a raft of POV. If you dislike an editors contribution do not blindly revert them make additions to them or contact the editor. The edits made were in good faith and researched, also please see wikipedia ownership of articles as It seems this may be applicable in this instance.--Lucy-marie 19:45, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

I agree with MRacer's restorations of some of the old text. Your changes unnecessarily removed useful non-POV information too (like in the 2003 part) and introduced factual inaccuracies and spelling mistakes ("this record has since been broken by Carlos Sinz and Sebastian Loeb", should be "This... Sainz... Sébastien... and Marcus Grönholm."). Prolog 20:20, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Lucy-marie. My sincere apologies about the 'blind revert'. I did make additions, that was the whole point: you didn't leave much behind. So I'm not sure what you mean by 'well researched', when much of what you've done is remove content. I personally liked the older version more and felt it came across merely as entertainingly well-spoken - as any article of prose, anywhere, should be if it wishes to engage its readers. Personally, I didn't think you were being sympathetic enough to the huge differences between that, and genuinely 'weasel' language. Nor do I recall any of the stated 'Peacock words or phrases to watch out for' being used there. I also saw no difference to the POV between either version, just the sentences oddly chopped down on the latter. Still, now I realise there are at least ulterior considerations, so thanks for those points.

We just needed to compromise somewhere to avoid the most important section of the article staying an insignificant rump. Reading it through before, anybody would have imagined that the whole, 19-year career of one of the most, if not the most, decorated rally driver of the century had just flicked by as if it were just some casual liasion, an utter aside. It was not. It was all long-standing, barely touched content (by this point, many other people had meddled with it) and spelling errors were legion within the 'cleaned up' version anyway.

Sorry about this. As usual I won't get in any 'edit' or 'revert' war, I'll just accept and meet you in the middle somewhere. I won't add any more tirades or long comments so if your opinion stands, that's fine with me. I understand all the other points you've made and I'll be more cautious. As I've implied, it just looked like too puritan an intervention to me. It seemed like the positive thing to do to me, to restore the majority of the old content. MRacer 21:34, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Looking at it, the current version looks okay. The length's virtually the same anyway now so the balance is okay anyway now. MRacer 21:44, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for you conciliatory tone, I accept that the revision I have produced is not perfect and if there are errors in their then by all means please go ahead and correct them. As for the language words I were referring to were things such as muster and gap year are a couple. I also think some referencing is required for the whole article as it seems to be lacking. I look forward to more editing.--Lucy-marie 22:24, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Pablo Pérez Companc[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

A tag has been placed on Pablo Pérez Companc, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per CSD a7.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. Pigman 05:29, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Page moves[edit]

Hey. It took me a while to notice but it seems that you moved Pablo Pérez Companc and Gregorio Pérez Companc by using cut-and-paste. This should never be done (although an exception is if you are the only author of the page), because the edit history must stay intact as otherwise editors won't get proper attribution which violates the terms of GFDL. Please always use the "move" function from now on (see Help:Moving a page for more information). These two moves are fixed now, but if you remember doing other cut-and-paste moves in the past, let me know and I will fix them by merging the page histories. By the way, great job on expanding BP Ford World Rally Team. Thanks, Prolog 09:22, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Many thanks, and my apologies. Certainly I will endeavour to try to remember any such articles I treated in a similar way at any point in the past - I will let you know if I am successful in that. MRacer 19:35, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Nicky Grist[edit]

Hi, please remember to complete the "edit summary" box when editing (especially when removing parts of an article) as unexplained edits could appear to be vandalism to other editors. That was the reason I reverted you removal of the bit about Nicky Grist being the second most successful co-driver, as I hadn't seen the talk page at the time. Cheers, Miremare 17:41, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

My apologies. For some reason, my attempt with my second edit to explain the alteration not only on the discussion page but also the edit summary, didn't seem to produce the desired result as the actual summary under the 'history' tab remained blank. I really ought to have persisted in order to make the motives for the deletion of the text clear. Thanks. MRacer 22:01, 7 October 2007 (UTC)

Henri Toivonen[edit]

Hey. Nice catch with the factual error on Henri Toivonen. I can't believe it went unnoticed for so long despite the wikilink to the 1986 season article. Prolog (talk) 13:14, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

I'll keep on the lookout for anything similar. I agree, and as these articles do tend to be the territory of really proud anoraks, it was odd to stumble across that claim. Ah well, uprooting errors and correcting them is what we're all here for! MRacer (talk) 14:37, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice[edit]

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!
