War is Live[edit]

I just thought I would let you know that I finally managed to complete the article on Warfare in early modern Scotland. Only took me a year. I also found some more on the Scots in the Thirty Years War and will add that into the article when I can face it. All the best.--SabreBD (talk) 22:52, 19 June 2013 (UTC)

Allen Burns[edit]

Hi Mais oui!, Saw your request for the Allen Burns. Was this the man who's father died at 96, his brother was Dr John Burns, and he was in charge of the dissecting rooms when he was 16, at his brothers behest? If so, can you forward me a message and i'll make a start. scope_creep (talk) 01:02, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Welcome back![edit]

It is good to see you editing again. --John (talk) 23:03, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

Many thanks. Not sure that I am "back", but as a (somewhat infrequent) user of Wikipedia in my reallife I get a bit irritated with small errors and bugs. I resisted the urge to fix things for over a year. I've got lots of things I'd love to work on, but I am profoundly reluctant to dedicate my valuable time to Wikipedia until you lot solve the problems with bullying, thuggery and rogue admins. WP:VERIFY is official Wikipedia policy. And official Wikipedia policy does not simply apply to main article space, but also the templates, categories, and all other areas of the project. Not only has an Admin blatently ignored this fact, they have not even had the common courtesy to respond to my point, but have systematically, over many, many years, gone round quietly but steadily vandalising literally hundreds (perhaps thousands) of categories which I have created as an active member (in fact founder) of WikiProject Scotland.
You can choose to allow the thuggery to continue or you can choose to ensure that official Wikipedia policy is implemented in practice. Or, of course, you can choose to do nothing at all. --Mais oui! (talk) 09:10, 10 July 2014 (UTC)
I am with you in all that you say. If you give me a list of specific problems I promise to do anything in my power to address them. --John (talk) 22:07, 11 July 2014 (UTC)

State Church in Scotland[edit]

Dear Mais oui, I noticed that you tagged the Catholic Church in Scotland as State Church, because it was the pre-reformation State Church. However, this is a non-notable characteristic because before the reformation the Catholic church was state church in every West European country by definition. So I'm going to delete this classification, I hope you don't mind with the explanation I give you now. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:42, 20 July 2014 (UTC)

Territorial Council of Saint-Barthélemy[edit]

Hi Mais oui! Thank you very much for creating Territorial Council of Saint-Barthélemy. If I could ask you one small favour of you and that is to created a stub for Territorial Council of Saint-Martin. It is the one remaining red link on the newly created navbox Template:National unicameral legislatures which put together earlier this week. Cheers -- Ianblair23 (talk) 00:43, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

My pleasure! I can give it a spin. But one query: are you 100% sure that these are actually legislatures? The external refs describe them explicitly as "consultative". Do we have evidence that they actually pass legislation? Otherwise, they are not legislatures. --Mais oui! (talk) 08:52, 28 July 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to 1831 in Scotland may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:

Scottish Natural Heritage[edit]

Hello, I'm new to Wikipedia and tried to bring the Scottish Natural Heritage page up to date. Can you help me do so ?

Many thanks, Montepulciano 123Montepulciano123 (talk) 19:10, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

Of course! Welcome aboard.
I don't have much time in the coming days, but please note that you are always welcome to seek assistance at the Talk page of Wikipedia:WikiProject Scotland, or other related wikiproject pages (just guessing here, but how about Wikipedia:WikiProject Biology?)
As a general rule, especially for new users, it is rarely wise to totally replace an entire article with an totally new text. So please try a couple of small edits at a time. Eg. if there is anything blatantly incorrect in the current text then simply correct it and please write a clear Edit summary so that other users understand what your change is about. --Mais oui! Universities of Scotland[edit]

Hi Mais oui, hope you are well. Given the change of title for Universities of Scotland. Should History of universities in Scotland go to History of universities of Scotland? Not sure which bit of the MOS this is in.--SabreBD (talk) 16:58, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Good spot. That was a lazy edit summary. The word "of" is usually applied to national institutions, eg. universities, whereas the word "in" is usually applied to other things which just happen to be located in a country, eg. World Heritage Sites. For some odd reason every singe university cat and article seems to be "in" rather than "of". I consider that to be incorrect but lack the energy to pursue the case, therefore I have self-reverted. --Mais oui! (talk) 17:04, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
And yes, I am very well! Thank you for asking :) --Mais oui! (talk) 17:05, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
Glad to hear it. Thanks. Something to sort out when there is an excess of energy. I have been waiting for that for a while.--SabreBD (talk) 17:09, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I see that in the past you have edited James Clerk Maxwell, particularly the nationality. Did ye ken that there is a long discussion going on there, and more edit warring? Scottish Parliament general election, 2016[edit]

Hi there, I can't find any reference whatsoever in your link to a Survation poll conducted between 16-18 December. The article does link to a Daily Record page with information about a different Survation poll which is already in the table. The only other possible scenario is that you've tried to add the results of the ICM/Guardian poll, but the linked article doesn't contain any figures for Holyrood. Speedy deletion nomination of Scottish problem[edit]

A tag has been placed on Scottish problem, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Blatantly biased redirect

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
