Valsalva maneuver?[edit]

Hi Mark,

Shouldn't Valsva manoeuvre be Valsalva maneuver or Valsalva manoeuvre? The 'maneuver' spelling already has an article, which you might want to merge with yours.

Best regards Rasmus Faber 11:26, 11 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Since you did not reply, I attempted the merge myself. You might want to check it :-) Rasmus Faber 14:14, 11 Feb 2004 (UTC)
I have left Valsva manoeuvre as a redirect to the other article. It is normal to leave 'alternate' spellings as redirects. Rasmus Faber 15:40, 11 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hi. Mark. I noticed that you created Royal Artillery. I'm amazed that this hadn't already been created, but as it can never be more than a duplcate of the Royal Regiment of Artillery, I'm going to redirect the page to that article. Mintguy (T) 10:24, 25 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Respiration[edit]

Hi Mark, I have started compiling a List of physiology topics: respiration - if you would like to add to the diving section? Would be a great help. Thanks, Kosebamse 13:21, 26 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hi Mark, this has moved to Respiration (physiology) which is standard format. The old page is a redirect see talk: List of physiology topics: respiration. I dont think that diving belongs under this subcatagory. This is still a useful subject though so keep up the good work.

PS. If you are going to do a page such as the effect of diving on the physiology of respiration (this name is too long) it could link from Respiration (physiology).Bensaccount 23:15, 27 Feb 2004 (UTC)

You made an edit to Saunders-Roe Princess in which you mentioned Calshot Spit. Your wording's a little unclear; how many were stored there, and for how long? Where were the others stored? —Morven 21:45, 19 Mar 2004 (UTC)

The Humungous Image Tagging Project[edit]

Hi. You've helped with the Wikipedia:WikiProject Wiki Syntax, so I thought it worth alerting you to the latest and greatest of Wikipedia fixing project, User:Yann/Untagged Images, which is seeking to put copyright tags on all of the untagged images. There are probably, oh, thirty thousand or so to do (he said, reaching into the air for a large figure). But hey: they're images ... you'll get to see lots of random pretty pictures. That must be better than looking for at at and the the, non? You know you'll love it. best wishes --Tagishsimon (talk)

Article Licensing[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

About an image you uploaded.[edit]

Howdy! I'm here because of the Humungous Image Tagging Project, and I'm curious about the copyright status of an image you uploaded. The picture in question is Image:12 and 3 litre diving cylinders.JPG, and it doesn't currently have an image copyright tag on it. If you could tag it with something to let us know what the copyright is, that would be great. A couple of common tags are gfdl, if you made the picture and release it under the GFDL, or fairuse if you claim fair use. For a full page of these, you can go to the image copyright tags page. If none of this makes sense, you can leave a message describing the coypright status on my talk page, and I'll tag it for you. Thanks much! ^_^ --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 23:33, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)

Unverified images[edit]

Hi! Thanks for uploading the following image:

I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use gfdl if you release it under the GNU Free Documentation License, fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know at my talk page where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Marine war graves[edit]

Hi Mark,

I've just noticed your edit to war grave today. I don't suppose you know the details of the 16 ship wrecks so listed. If so, it would probably make the basis for an article - I dare say the folks at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Ships would also be interested in helping. (I'm a little surprised the number of ships isn't larger). Also isn't the designation much larger than a British thing.-- Solipsist 21:04, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

RNLI-photos[edit]

Hi Mark,
first sorry about my bad English, I´m a member of the German Wikipedia and I mostly write articles about sea-rescuing. For e.g. I wrote the article "RNLI" and I used your picture. Do you have other photos, which show vehicles of the RNLI? I´m very interested in that.

Hi Mark,
that´s fine - my email-adress is grimmi@grimmi-online.de
May I use some of the pics eventually on my homepage? The main content of the page is about sea-rescuing in the world.
Have a nice evening and thanks so much --Grimmi 5 July 2005 19:14 (UTC)

Image Tagging Image:Aqua lung.JPG[edit]

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Aqua lung.JPG. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Drysuit inflation gases discussion[edit]

Hi Mark, I've noticed that you're a regular contributer to the diving related articles, and appear to be a tech diver. (I'm assuming that's your Inspiration in the photo you uploaded.) There's been an addition to the Diving suit article stating that normoxic argox is sometimes used as a suit inflation gas, as it has the advantage that it can be breathed in an emergency. I think this is a completely ridiculous claim, and have started a discussion about it's removal on that article's talk page. Would you like to comment on this? Thanks. -- David Scarlett(Talk) 02:26, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Professional Diving[edit]

I know you keep an eye on the old Commercial Diving page, so I thought I would let you know that I've finally finished re-writing it (almost a year later) and would appreciate if you could just run through it and see if I've made any mistakes. Kind Regards - Heligoland | Talk | Contribs 13:05, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Rule of thirds[edit]

Please stop and learn the correct way to move and/or create disambiguation pages. Your edits are being reverted; you can't just copy the contents of a page to a new page of your choice, abandoning the talk history. And moving someone else's page so you can use its name as a disambig page is bad form. Instead, create Rule of thirds (disambiguation) and add a distinguish tag to Rule of thirds. Image:Light characteristics.PNG updated[edit]

Hi. I've lined up the items on Image:Light characteristics.PNG and made the background of the text transparent so that it appears more naturally on most backgrounds. I've released my changes as public domain like your original copy. (I'm not sure my changes are even enough to be copyrightable, but I added the tag anyway.) Image copyright problem with Image:Elnido.jpg[edit]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Elnido.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Strangerer (Talk) 19:41, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Portland harbour south.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Portland harbour south.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. License tagging for Image:Dive profile - deco.PNG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dive profile - deco.PNG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 22:07, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Frederick Coolidge Crawford[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Frederick Coolidge Crawford, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Frederick Crawford. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 08:50, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Proposed deletion of United States Navy Diving Manual[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article United States Navy Diving Manual, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. File source problem with File:Tailplane_of_me262.JPG[edit]

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Tailplane_of_me262.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hey Mark. I saw that you have made a lot of contributions to aviation-related articles on Wikipedia, specifically on the Pilotage article. I'm a very new private pilot (got my certificate Apr 4th, 2010) who has started an aviation wiki because I could not find a single place to find and discover information about flying/aviation. I'm looking to start building a community to develop the content.. right now it's in *very* early stages, but feel free to check it out and edit however you like- we'll see how it shapes up. Industrial Injury[edit]

I see that you reverted back to the industrial injury definition.Let me clarify a little here. An accident or incident at work may lead to an injury that may be fatal, traumatic or minor. Asbestosis or silicosis are not injuries rather diseases caused by chronic exposures to asbestos and silica dust respectively at work. I also sugegst you add a synonymn - occupational injury. I think you are mixing disease which are result of chronic exposures and injuries as result of accidents / incidents at work. Youmay also want to add that most if not all industrial injuries are unintentional although some like a robbery at work or being subjected to violence at work classifies as intentional injury. I am hoping to make this scientifically sound and hope that you consider this constructive feedback.--Enfolkefiende (talk) 06:37, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Enfolkefiende, thanks. The reason I reverted those changes was the unexplained deletion of a large chunk and the grammar error in the first sentence. I look forward to your improvements. Mark.murphy (talk) 13:25, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Folding wing of De Havilland Sea Vixen.JPG[edit]

Copyright-problem.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Folding wing of De Havilland Sea Vixen.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. License tagging for File:Poly butylene pipes and fittings.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Poly butylene pipes and fittings.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 21:05, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Uwatec[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Uwatec has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. JDDJS (talk) 04:34, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 21:10, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Merge proposal - Heliair into Trimix[edit]

Hi Mark. There is a proposal to merge Heliair into Trimix as a section. You are being notified as the creator of the article Heliair. If you have any comment please do so in the discussion at Talk:Trimix (breathing gas)#Merge proposal Cheers, Peter (Southwood) (talk): 06:29, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Merge proposal[edit]

I propose to merge Glossary of SCUBA diving into Glossary of underwater diving terminology (and redirect) as it is a subset of the appropriate contents for this article. Merging would reduce duplication, reduce maintenance and improve usefulness. Glossary of SCUBA diving is also non-compliant with WP:MOSGLOSS and WP:SCUBA naming conventions (should be Glossary of scuba diving terms, which should also be a redirect). Discussion on Talk:Glossary of underwater diving terminology. Peter (Southwood) (talk): 10:20, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
