Comments welcome[edit]

Just wanted to say great job on the corrections to the article on the Talmadge Memorial Bridge.
BTW - Feel free to correct this comment ;-)

What ever happened to neutral party Mason? Do not remove my revision again or I will report your actions to a will employee. I did it properly. The sources I've provided is legit and you will not get anything more legit. Leave it alone. NocturnalDef (talk) 22:00, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

United States[edit]

Thanks for your message a couple days ago. Much appreciated. Best, Dan.—DCGeist (talk) 06:49, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

I wanted to let you know that I agree that the Census info needs to eb updated. I mentioned that on the Peer review thats going for the article currently as well. Feel free to update them or else I will get to it in the next few days. --Kumioko (talk) 20:34, 20 January 2011 (UTC) February 14 talk me

You need to keep your emotions neutral Mason. I have provided the truth and nothing more; properly factoid and properly cited. I'm going to add it back on... remove it again and I will go over your head and report the issue. NocturnalDef (talk) 21:48, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

This is your last warning Mason. Keep it neutral. NocturnalDef (talk) 21:57, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

New York City's population[edit]

I'm responding to your comment on my own Talk page (since I don't like ping-pong discussions). I was using the latest (March 2011) U.S. Census estimate of the April 2010 census, which I found at the U.S. Census site. But I certainly appreciate any clarification. —— Shakescene (talk) 20:15, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Here's a specific Factfinder2 file that covers 2010 Census numbers for all New York towns:

http://factfinder2.census.gov/faces/tableservices/jsf/pages/productview.xhtml?pid=DEC_10_PL_GCTPL2.ST10&prodType=table

Insofar as I can tell "Dec 10" means Decennial Census for 2010, GCT PL2 is the Table for Population & Housing, and State 10 (I think) is New York. —— Shakescene (talk) 07:56, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Nashville[edit]

It isn't that I'm not accepting that the figures are correct, it's that numbers keep getting added to the article without *any* source, and I cannot located the figures on the FactFinder2 2010 Census website. This is possibly due to my inability to figure out how to use that idiotic site, but all I'm asking is that a link be provided to where those numbers are found. Huntster (t @ c) 19:25, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

Please see my response at Talk:Nashville, Tennessee#Nashville ≠ Nashville-Davidson (balance); Nashville = Davidson County. Thanks. Kaldari (talk) 23:49, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for trying to keep Wikipedia free of vandalism. However, one or more edits you labeled as vandalism, such as the edit at Georgia (U.S. state), are not considered vandalism under Wikipedia guidelines. Wikipedia has a stricter definition of the word "vandalism" than common usage, and mislabeling edits as vandalism can discourage newer editors. Please read Wikipedia:NOTVAND for more information on what is and is not considered vandalism. Thank you. SudoGhost 01:03, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Hey[edit]

Thanks for clearing that up, I didn't think anything about the source needing to be from the census (although at this point I realize that it makes sense) Anyway, thanks for fixing it and explaining it! Ncboy2010 (talk) 22:09, 28 March 2012 (UT

The Oglethorpe Plan[edit]

Thank you for editing the new article. With regard to the western boundary, the charter issued by George II placed it at the "South Seas," hence my use of the term "essentially unlimited." One might also say, however, that the "Indian nations" as they were called formed a western limit (one that for a time was respected).

With regard to usage of the term "Oglethorpe Plan," the present tense is appropriate as it is a modern construct. My point is that people now often use the term very restrictively to apply to the National Historic Landmark District (or even a subset of that area), when in fact Oglethorpe's plan for Savannah was regional in character. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Twilson088 (talkcontribs) 08:45, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Savannah (Georgia) Fire Department, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Savannah Historic District (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Savannah, Georgia edit[edit]

Thank you for your edit to Savannah, Georgia, but "local authorities negotiated a peaceful surrender to save Savannah from destruction, and Union troops marched into the city at dawn" - isn't the comma a comma splice? Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 16:57, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

No, the comma sets off a new independent clause ("and Union troops marched into the city at dawn"). Style books say you can omit the comma when the sentence is short ("Savannah surrendered and Union troops marched in"), but this one is longer and needs the comma for clarity. Otherwise, your edit is great. The point about Savannah's possible destruction should have been there from the beginning.Mason.Jones (talk) 17:34, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

OK, thanks. Bubba73 You talkin' to me? 22:24, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

Ellis island edits[edit]

Do you really think all immigrants came from Europe in ellis island, you also had immigrants from other parts of the old world. Please stop this because it narrows a wider concept. (N0n3up (talk) 01:00, 2 September 2015 (UTC))

I would've taken you more seriously if you hadn't barged your heavy-weight anger with accusations and eccentric attitude the way you seem to adress the situation. Given that, I only said that putting the word "European" there is a bit narrow because it wasn't a restricted place for European immigration since people mainly from the old world came there. (N0n3up (talk) 01:06, 2 September 2015 (UTC))

I believe your edit is ideological, as you are refusing to acknowledge that Ellis was THE European immigration gateway. You were blocked from editing just two days ago due to repeated edit warring. Your comments to others are caustic, and you've somehow been able to feud with at least 10 WP editors in only two months. You are the worst kind of WP editor.Mason.Jones (talk) 01:16, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

All I'm saying is that my edit is not ideological, but better to keep it general because keep in mind that people came from all over at that time and it would be imprudent to say that Ellis island was a European-only gateway of immigration because of the major influx of immigrants in the island. And instead of accusing me of idealism and being a terrible Wikipedian, you might be careful of how you address this situation as you accuse me of being idealist, I can't help but think that your revert might be idealistically-racially motivated since you only say that Ellis island was a European gateway and nothing more before you continue to criticize me instead of supporting your stance. (N0n3up (talk) 01:28, 2 September 2015 (UTC))

Your edit was petty and reverts information about a major period of European immigration. It is also evident to me that your editing history on Wikipedia is, to put it mildly, one of contentious carping, edit-warring, and introduction of needless errors. I plan to take it up with a WP administrator, so consider this due notice.Mason.Jones (talk) 03:01, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

You can talk to an admin, and I might consider asking admins myself. But you still give your opinion, not on the edit, but on me which is completely irrelevant to this point. I could say that considering your lack of support for your stance that your revert was, to put it mildly, racially motivated or of xenophobic intentions, can't say for certain. Either way, you probably failed to think of the edit before you revert it back and missed that taking away European would sound more fitting due to the uncertainty of the possible origins of immigrants to Ellis island. Yes, there were many immigrants from various parts of Europe but also from other parts outside Europe. Many tend to hear of Europeans in Ellis island and wrongly associated Ellis island as a gateway for European immigration and miss that it also a gateway for other immigrants but due to associations to European immigration, tend to think only about the European immigrants and not other groups, cultures, ethnicity and so on. You failed to show how is Ellis island a European-only immigration gateway, other than saying Ellis was THE European immigration gateway. You could've used examples of laws passed permitting only European immigration or even use other articles but no, even though you've been here longer than me, you don't seem to be doing a good job yourself. (N0n3up (talk) 03:50, 2 September 2015 (UTC))

If you haven't even read what I've mentioned, I think it's best that you're not worth the troubles, since you are acting more childish than I could imagine. Seriously, do you have some form of unusual problem for you to act so eccentric? Like I said, you aren't concentrating on the topic in the article. And you still haven't provided why Ellis island was mainly a gateway for European migrants, while I even gave you a head start to defend your stance, you just keep yapping that I'm a horrible editor. Please civilize yourself. (N0n3up (talk) 15:49, 2 September 2015 (UTC))

WP:NPA[edit]

Mason.Jones, please comment on the edit, not on the contributor. This is one of the central principles for editor interaction on Wikipedia; compare the policy WP:NPA. Your personalising and rude edit summary here, reverting an edit by N0n3up which had a perfectly civil summary, started a theme which I see you continue in the section above: N0n3up is "the worst kind of WP editor". You seem to be fascinated by N0n3up's recent edit warring block (which I placed), but to be absolutely frank, it's none of your business, and you should stop going on about it. I hope he learned from it (as you have repeatedly pointed out, he's a new editor — hardly likely to be "legendary" yet!), and I'm glad to see how civilly and factually he responds to your personal attacks above — losing patience towards the end, but we're all human. Now it's your turn to improve your Wiki interaction, if you care about your own wikipedia reputation. I'm particularly struck by your boast here about not reading his posts. It's unbecoming. The thing to look at when you interact with somebody is precisely their arguments, their posts; don't go first to their block log for ammunition.

You're a long-time editor and I assume you know better and were/are merely having a bad day. For now, I recommend both of you to stay off each other's pages. The article talkpage is the right place for discussion the text of United States. Neither of you has posted there yet. Bishonen | talk 16:46, 2 September 2015 (UTC).

Cross-posting warning from my own page: Please take this as a warning: if you continue to make personal remarks about N0n3up with no relevance to content, I will block you. Bishonen | talk 18:56, 2 September 2015 (UTC).

v:Calculus I[edit]

Mason: please help my translation in:

My French is only fr-1. I used Google Translate and someone at French Wikipedia said that the translation is not good. Please tell others about the English page, such as high school and college math students and faculty. Thanks in advance.--2602:304:CDC1:90:64C5:4976:D62C:FF33 (talk) 12:11, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

Unable to help you there -- sorry. I have no sufficient background in math and the sciences. That requires a different translator's skill set, which I simply don't possess. Mason.Jones (talk) 02:13, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Geography of the United States[edit]

It only matters in total area of the country, also the US does cover over 12 time zones which is the most. This site is about accuracy, how is it edit warring when some of the information is inaccurate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Redom115 (talkcontribs) 02:52, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

Wealth in the United States[edit]

The US possesses the greatest amount of wealth, and even the reference links provided state that the US is the wealthiest country in the world . The information provides credibility. It is small edit which is true. This is supposed to be about accuracy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Redom115 (talkcontribs) 02:54, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

If you look at the sites that give evidence of the links to wealth, it states that the US is the wealthiest country in the world. It is not a POV. The links themselves state this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Redom115 (talkcontribs) 23:35, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

US soft power leadership[edit]

Ah, so here we are then. I remember discussing this with you earlier and you said that you had no part, nor interest in this consensus. Apparently you do. So let's continue where we left off; why are the sources that I've provided for you a weak argument in my revision? Those were credible sources, were they not? And again I must ask why do you feel the sudden tendency to keep removing this particular measure of the nation's influence? What agenda do you hope to gain? Is this an attempt to prove something? Because general knowledge informs us that the US hegemony is in decline, NOT ended. Are you indeed attempting to imply that a premature political condition has already taken place when it hasn't? Please explain yourself. NocturnalDef (talk) 17:52, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

Also, where are your sources to prove the contrary? I keep asking but none is never provided. NocturnalDef (talk) 17:54, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

If I also may inquire, why was the original text "the US is the predominant political and cultural force in the world," removed in the first place? I've searched the records and it was done so without any explanation, and no explanation was provided for me when I asked. Could you enlighten me please? Friendly note about "REVERT" in edit summaries[edit]

This is just a friendly note that some editors, particularly those whom you are reverting, may be put off by your edit summaries that begin with "REVERT." Using all uppercase is often interpreted as shouting so editors whose edits you are reverting may perceive your action as aggressive and unfriendly. ElKevbo (talk) 16:51, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
