Disambiguation link notification for April 30[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited List of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero episodes, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Sheik (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Thank you![edit]

You deserved a barnstar if I did. Nonetheless, I hope you'll accept my sincere thanks - work's so much lighter when it is shared, and I agree that behind-the-scenes work on something as valuable as the RD is satisfying for its own sake. There are many who don't seem to appreciate what a welcome the RD can be to many users (I've seen comments at Village Pump etc), yet I'll bet there are a fair number of new editors who make their first steps on the RD, then move to content (hard to track if that shift is accompanied by creation of a username). Cheers! -- Scray (talk) 01:41, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest[edit]

I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 03:06, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Inspirer[edit]

Hello Matt Deres. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Inspirer, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The reason given is not a valid speedy deletion criterion. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 03:36, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Could you upload/donate 1/2 of those shark tooth image at Commons? TitoDutta 20:07, 28 March 2014 (UTC)

I suppose, but they're really not very good (shot with an iPhone camera) and their use is limited because they haven't been properly identified yet. I would retake the shots with a proper camera, but my daughter turned the tooth in to the school office. Some poor kid evidently brought it in for show and tell and then lost it and she wanted to make sure it got back to them. Matt Deres (talk) 11:35, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
I've uploaded them:
Matt Deres (talk) 11:50, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
  • I specially liked the way you measured it using scale. Excellent approach. Thank you for uploading. TitoDutta 15:47, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the Gazetteer Idea[edit]

There is, of course, the "political" problem that if you propose more than one of these things at a time (e.g. schools and places) the opposition to the concept doubles as the two interest groups support each other. A piecewise approach would probably deliver better results. RomanSpa (talk) 17:02, 29 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm (finally) back. —Steve Summit (talk) 15:18, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

The PENISS Prize[edit]

Hi Matt. You know what this is for. Cheers. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 10:22, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Our motto: "It's only hard if you make it hard"

The PENISS Prize
On behalf of the People Encouraging Niceness (and/or Eschewing Nastiness) In Society Society, I hereby award you the PENISS Prize.

The prize is the highest (and sole) honour in the gift of the Society and is awarded irregularly, on merit. It entitles the awardee to the postnominal letters P.E.N.I.S.S. (in appropriate contexts, of course).

It confers automatic membership of the Society, and it thus bestows the power to award the prize to others*, and they to others, in perpetuity.

Remember, the more PENISSes in the world, the better for all of us. What a nice thought. Please continue your good work!

* To present this award to others, simply type {{subst:User:JackofOz/PENISS}} on their talk page, and then sign and date your post.

Thank you, @JackofOz:; I really needed something like this today. If you should ever find yourselves in Ontario, Canada, please consider yourself and your better half officially welcome for a pint or two (or three). Matt Deres (talk) 00:22, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
I may well take you up on that, Matt. I've garnered a few Canadian debts I have to satisfy friends I wish to meet, and we are planning a trip to Europe and sundry parts of the Americas in July-ish. Watch this space. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 23:31, 31 October 2014 (UTC)
Will do. My offer was sincere - I would love to show off a small portion of the most beautiful country in the world. Matt Deres (talk) 13:36, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
Hey there young Matt, I have first dibs on any visit Jack of Oz might make to the upper half of the upper half of our world. I made my invitation more than a few years ago. I will share though. You can have any city (except for Toronto) and the countryside north of Algonquin Park. Regards, Bielle (talk) 02:51, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
Okay @Bielle:, I can't deny you. Luckily, it's a big country... Matt Deres (talk) 13:50, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
Now, now, kiddies, no bickering, especially not over little ol' me.  :) -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 23:51, 9 November 2014 (UTC)

Elvira's Movie Macabre: Movie links[edit]

I apologize in advance if I am doing anything wrong. I made an account so that I can get this message to you. I remembered seeing this movie but could never remember the name. Why this movie stood out so much is the screaming of the pigs. Thank You! for making this article. It helped me find this movies name. In return for making this article & helping me, here is the link to said movie. I am fairly good at finding things. I shale look at the list & see if I can’t find a link to the other movies. If there is any other way of dropping you a line please let me know. Again, Thank You for the article & understanding! Season 3, Episode 20, Film Shown The Pigs, EP#98, Date June 17, 1984, --LunaEclipse1 (talk) 14:48, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

October 2016[edit]

Information icon Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Wikipedia:Reference desk/Miscellaneous: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. (talk) 22:30, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

Hello thank you for your response on the reference desk page , I had a further question (about DOH), please have a look and let me know if you have further opinions! much appreciated! : ) — Preceding unsigned comment added by (talk) 11:27, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

Unfortunately, it didn't do what I needed; I must have described it wrongly, or followed your instructions wrongly. I ended up asking for help from a coworker and was able to get done what I needed. Nyttend (talk) 12:10, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi there. Thanks for pointing out that editor's contribution history. I'm not as inclined to offer them any accommodations as I was before you did that. However, I'm still curious to hear their position on our article, if for nothing else than to understand Axact's PR strategy. There have been a bunch of lame attempts to whitewash the article, but this is the first time anyone has actually come out and declared themselves as an employee. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 21:41, 11 February 2017 (UTC)

Your AGF does you credit. :) Matt Deres (talk) 03:20, 12 February 2017 (UTC)

Hi, No, it was a Hollywood for sure, I saw it on Star Movies or HBO. I remember clearly the cast was white. Saw it in late '80. [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2405:205:4082:5214:0:0:22DD:40AD (talk) 09:04, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
