for having reached out on my talk page regarding the article Kodjo Adabra, I am new here at wiki (as a creator) as you may have noticed, and so far my experience has been largely unpleasant (though there have been other friendly exceptions, you are not the first), in that I have had one article deleted for copyright violation, and then immediately put it back up (the person who deleted it based on this googled the article and found it was copy-pasted and assumed this meant copyright violation, they did not read further to where it said that it was allowed for use within the public domain, which of course includes Wiki), and nearly every human interaction since has been the same. Is there a system in wikipedia that rewards people for acting like 'article janitors' if you will? I also just learned that somehow, being within the church (clergy, etc) automatically gets you in. If there are any neat-o shortcut criteria that can get this article in, perhaps with your experience you will have an easier time seeing that than I, though I will look. It seems to me kind of cheap as a way to meet the criteria, but clearly my legitimate attempts make me about as respectable as poop in the Wiki community at large, so I don't see how this could hurt. The legitimate attempts include 3 separate independent sources (so far listed on the article, with more non-internet sources to come, my apologies, they are obviously less convenient), and these efforts have been met by attempts to render these sources first as non-independent, then when that failed, they tried to say they are 'routine' however if you read the WP:Routine page, and read the articles (which this editor clearly did not), it is clearly NOT a routine story, also, even if it were, that still leaves one source that is entirely independent and could not even be accused of being routine ( though I do not doubt that soon will be met by attempts to de-legitimize it). This is creating a lot of stress for me, as you can imagine, and is needless to say, quite time-consuming. The fact is, this guy is really just a local celebrity everywhere he goes, there is not one community he has landed in where his life, his biography, did not become well known by locals, and make local papers. And not just where he has gone, but especially where he started, where he was born in Togo, he made such a splash with his writing from 2000, when he graduated from Lomé U in Togo that the the regime of Togo found it appropriate to chase him from the State. Before I go to deep into trying to find resources for this, outside of the obvious primary, and the provided secondary newspaper articles that are from the first world, would state issued documents noting his exile or imprisonment be worth the time to retrieve? or are the secondary sources enough? Would you recommend that I spend the time getting more obscure sources, when these that are provided (perhaps making a stronger case than secondary sources that have to hide from their own government, out of fear of imprisonment or torture, making them inherently not-widely-known) are met with reluctance or pity at best? honestly if everyone could get on board with that one guy and give it a pity-pass I would be happy, three separate independent sources is not a lot, I realize, but this is entirely me trying to put this together, and with time I will be able to gather the less accessible secondary sources. Your kind words were a breath of fresh air, and I appreciate you reaching out beyond the deletion discussion pages. Thanks for your thought. Before you call it a "dubious endonym", can I suggest you Google it? It IS a widely used endonym for people born in Southport, with varying degrees of qualification. I'm too tired at the moment to look for a reliable source, but if you're feeling fit, you could try... There's a beer, a pub and heavens knows what called Sandgrounder as well. @Peridon: I did take a quick look for sources, but all I could immediately find were pub and restaurant reviews. Yes, there is controversy - but only about exactly who is and isn't a Sandgrounder http://www.southportvisiter.co.uk/news/southport-news/how-you-define-true-sandgrounder-7865575 (note there is no suggestion there that the term doesn't apply to local people of some sort - just as there is about who is and isn't a Cockney. Londoners don't use the word 'Cockney' in everyday talk - I've been in London many times on business and never heard the word used there on my visits. Same with 'Scouse' and 'Manc' (although the latter is probably an exonym - often used in Liverpool with a tone of disgust, and associated mentally with 'manky' which is of a different origin). Anyways, I took the year of birth from her twin brother's wikipedia (as stated in the comment), assuming that was a valid source, as otherwise it wouldn't be on there? @Anhdroid: I don't particularly mind where to have the conversation for this sort of thing. Anyway, one of Wikipedia's policies is that we cannot use Wikipedia itself as a source. Thanks for checking my edits on In case of emergency; Bob and I agree/understand the changes you made. I do have a favour to ask of you, though. I am unable to edit the title 'In case of emergency' to read 'In Case of Emergency'. I have researched the help pages and other sources but am still unable to work it out/get it to work. @Leanonus: Hi, welcome to Wikipedia! I agree changing the page title as you've proposed is a good idea, and I've started the process of doing so.

In general, the process for changing a page title is discussed at Wikipedia:Moving a page. You won't be able to move pages yourself yet as the system blocks editors from moving pages until they have a little more experience; see the "Before moving a page" section at that article, which also includes instructions for the "official" way to get someone to move a page for you.

In this case only an administrator would be able to move the page anyway, since there's already a page using the new title (it's a redirect to the existing article, but it's still enough to block the move). I've requested the article at the new title be deleted, at which point the existing article can be moved to live there; I'll keep an eye out and do it myself if I'm around at the right time.

As an aside, if you know Bob or are otherwise involved in the ICE programme, particularly if you have a financial interest, you should also read Wikipedia's "conflict of interest" rules and make sure you follow them. Not doing so could lead to your account being blocked, and may be in breach of fair trading laws. That sounds a bit formal, but it's important for us to avoid Wikipedia becoming an advertising platform. If you do have a conflict of interest, your best bet is to avoid editing articles directly and use {{request edit}} on the talk page to get other editors to make changes for you instead; you should make it clear when you request the edit that you have a conflict.

Really appreciate you starting the process of the title change as it has been bugging me for ages :) Thank you also for explaining the process as well as possible "conflict of interest". I've known Bob coming up for 4 years and we have worked together on several projects. Even though I don't have a financial interest in Bob's campaign, I do support him on social media, his website, including some administrative duties. Concerning this this edit which you undid there is no reason to have fancy columns or formats in the reference section since there is only one source being referenced in this whole article. Hi Kevin! I understand you were trying to improve the article and help other editors, but Wikipedia has fairly strict guidelines about what is and isn't appropriate to include as a link in an article. There are a lot of "Be like Bill" generators available, and unless reliable, third-party sources are talking about one in particular, it's not appropriate for Wikipedia to link to any one in particular, nor to attempt to link to them all. If readers want to find a tool to generate "Be like Bill" images, they're readily findable with a search engine. —me_and 15:10, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. Queering Wikipedia 2021 User Group Working Days: May 14–16

The Wikimedia LGBTQ+ User Group is holding online working days in May. As a member of WikiProject LGBT studies, editing on LGBTQ+ issues or if you identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community, come help us set goals, develop our organisation and structures, consider how to respond to issues faced by Queer editors, and plan for the next 12 months.

We will be meeting online for 3 half-days, 14–16 May at 1400–1730 UTC. While our working language is English, we are looking to accommodate users who would prefer to participate in other languages, including translation facilities.
