Table Tennis biografy template[edit]

Hello MediocreVisitor... I guess it could be useful to define a common template for the biografies of table tennis players, we could use the indication of the "WikiProject Biography". Let me know if you agree and if you would like to perform this kind job ;) Cialo (talk) 10:09, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Not totally understand what "common template" refers to. Like Infobox templates? Several players' pages on wikipedia use Template:Infobox tabletennis player. MediocreVisitor (talk) 17:55, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Nice... I just discovered the template Template:Infobox tabletennis player. However we could decide which competition should be included in the list of medals. Have you a proposal ? Cialo (talk) 12:56, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Olympics, World Championships, World Cup should be included. If the list wasn't too long, would take Pro Tour Grand Finals, Europe Championships, Euro Top-12, Asian Championships, Asian Games into consideration. MediocreVisitor (talk) 02:02, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

I agree, I guess Olympics, World Championships, World Cup would be enough if also double and team events are considered. Cialo (talk) 08:51, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

Cialo (talk) 15:53, 19 July 2010 (UTC) Hello MediocreVisitor, no problem for the modification conflict. Thank you very much for your huge work on the Table Tennis pages. To avoid future conflicts, we could organize our work for continents ;). You will be the responsable for all is about Asia, I'll take care of Europe. Is this ok for you ?

Wikilinks[edit]

Hello MediocreVisitor,

I have seen you have added wikilinks to several table tennis pages. Is there an automatic way to add wikilinks or you do it manually ? Cialo (talk) 10:05, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Manually, with the help "Search and replace" on the advanced toolbar while editing. MediocreVisitor (talk) 12:44, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Manually :o so... thank you for the big effort !!! Cialo (talk) 21:59, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

List of table tennis players[edit]

Cialo (talk) 17:30, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Hello MediocreVisitor, we have a problem with the List of table tennis players page. There are two wikipedians that are indicating that redlinked players cannot be in the list also if there is a comment including the main achievments.

You can see the discussion in the talk page of the list. They removed several important players (also the removed names are in the Talk). Try to join the discussion, however I guess the best way is creating a page for each one of the removed players.

Agreed. I'll help create pages in the following days. MediocreVisitor (talk) 11:04, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Ok thanks !!! As you can see I'm creating a bio stub for each player... however I'm trying to include an updated medal list in the infobox. I guess I good choice can be to include in the medal list the victories in olympics, world championships, world cups, European and Asian championships. Let me know if you agree. In case we decide to keep a smaller medal list we could not include Euroean and Asian championships and just consider the "world events". Cialo (talk) 11:36, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
To avoid collisions in creating new pages you could start from the bottom of the list of removed players included in the Talk page of the List of table tennis players. Btw, after creating the page it is also needed to include back the name in the list. Then we could introduce the wikilinks to the created pages in the wikipage of the several championships. Cialo (talk) 11:36, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
OK, agreed. MediocreVisitor (talk) 16:18, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Automatic infobox generator[edit]

Hello MediocreVisitor... I have programmed a tool for automatic generation of the template infobox table tennis player to be inserted in the players' bios. It could be very useful to avoid very boring work of checking the ITTF database. The tool is still in its beta version, however you can now start to use it at the following link:

http://193.205.83.89/cgi-bin/infobox_tt.cgi

On the same page you will also find the istructions to use it. Let me know if you like the tool, and if you notice some errors in the generated infoboxes.

--Cialo (talk) 13:59, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. It really helps. :) MediocreVisitor (talk) 14:27, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

lol. I'm very happy you like the tool, I have worked on it for several days. Up to now it only considers Olympics, World Championships, World Cup, Asian Championships, and European Championships. I will quikly include also the other continental championships. Also it would be possible to use the tool for performing automatic monitoring of the ITTF database, so that, after important tournaments, an email is sent to me or to you with the infoboxes of the players to be update.... however I need other work ;) --Cialo (talk) 14:59, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

I'm still debugging the code. I just solved a problem with Olympic Games medals, now the tool correctly inserts the Olympic medals. However, there is still a sorting issue with the Team World Cup and the Double World Cup events that, independently on the year, are listed after the Single World Cup events. I'll work on that next week, however, it is a minor issue. --Cialo (talk) 12:59, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

I've added the support of Latin American Championships. I see you used the tool for Li Furong. Please, if you agree, include also the full name the player name as it appears in the ittf database. --Cialo (talk) 13:33, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

I'll add the full name to the infobox. Thanks for the suggestion. MediocreVisitor (talk) 14:12, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited National Palace Museum, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Yangmei (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Lily Zhang Help[edit]

Thanks for the help with Lily Zhang's page! I noticed however that the material you posted is unsourced, if you could source it that would be wonderful, if not I'm sure my friends and myself will be able to find it eventually. Again thanks so much, you are a scholar and a gentleman.

Racoon42 (talk) 03:45, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

I think the material I posted is sourced. If you mean the results of North American Championships in the medal box, please visit ITTF website: [1]. The source was listed as "ZHANG Lily Ann (USA)" in the references. -- MediocreVisitor (talk) 03:52, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
