ER&L question

Sorry my microphone wasn't working — here's what I said in the ER&L session just now:

Except for a few editathons, I've never done anything with GLAM because of conflict-of-interest issues, especially the past few years' concerns about paid editing. Do you have any guidance for people here, whether regular editors or people who want to get started?

Thanks for your response! Nyttend backup (talk) 21:33, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

@Nyttend backup: Thank you for the question! I am going to tag in Rosiestep who has done this sort of thing in real life. When I am able to access my email, I'll also be able to send you another good contact. This guide, about GLAM outreach prohibitions, should help. Another good resource is to look at the GLAM model projects. Megalibrarygirl (talk) 23:19, 4 March 2019 (UTC)
Hi Nyttend backup. While preparing for an in-person GLAM event where there will be a conflict-of-interest element for some of the participants, I make sure that the main organizer understands and has provided information to attendees beforehand regarding how to deal with COI, e.g. info in the guides that Megalibrarygirl has linked to. I will also talk about it at the event during my presentation. GLAM/Wikipedian in Residence and Wikimedians-in-Residence deal with this, too, so you might want to check out some of the links associated with their job titles. If you'd be more comfortable to discuss some specifics off-wiki, it's ok to email me. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:29, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

Please participate to the talk pages consultation

Hello

Our team at the Wikimedia Foundation is working on a project to improve the ease-of-use and productivity of wiki talk pages. As a Teahouse host, I can imagine you’ve run into challenges explaining talk pages to first-time participants.

We want all contributors to be able to talk to each other on the wikis – to ask questions, to resolve differences, to organize projects and to make decisions. Communication is essential for the depth and quality of our content, and the health of our communities. We're currently leading a global consultation on how to improve talk pages, and we're looking for people that can report on their experiences using (or helping other people to use) wiki talk pages. We'd like to invite you to participate in the consultation, and invite new users to join too.

We thank you in advance for your participation and your help.

NPR Newsletter No.17

Hello Megalibrarygirl/Archives/2019,

News
Discussions of interest
  • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
  • {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
  • A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
  • There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
Reminders
  • NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
NPP Tools Report
  • Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.
  • copyvio-check – automatically checks the copyvio percentage of new pages in the background and displays this info with a link to the report in the 'info' panel of the Page curation toolbar.
  • The NPP flowchart now has clickable hyperlinks.

New page - help please

Hi Megalibrarygirl

Thanks so much for being here and making it easy for us newbies to know how to contact you.

I've just written and published a (very) short article on an Irish woman - Sarah Keane.

I'd like help to source images that don't violate any copyright. What do you suggest (I tried Flickr as per the 'Women in Red' suggestions...

Also any other suggestions welcome (I've only started doing the research so will keep adding to this myself of course)

  • (talk page watcher) Hallo @Paulatthomas:, I've done a bit of editing at Sarah Keane ... delighted to see you've already added her to Keane (surname). Thanks. PamD 08:58, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
@Paulatthomas: hi there! sorry for the slow reply. Flickr is a good place to start. I also sometimes find images using Google search. You can sort the images by usage rights on the search page for images. Sometimes, I've even had luck emailing the person involved. The Women in Red Twitter account can try tweeting at her for an image for the article, too. Victuallers has been involved in this. Thanks for checking out the article, too, PamD! Women in Red is a good team! :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 02:25, 21 March 2019 (UTC)

big storm

Trevor who?
hi Megalibrarygirl, i know they do things big in texas but, if youre interested, have a look at this report on a cyclone (hurricane) with the innocent sounding name of trevor - map shows it around 700km (450 miles) across! Coolabahapple (talk) 00:45, 23 March 2019 (UTC)
It's only going to get worse, too, I think, Coolabahapple. BTW, did you see the longhorn that visited Petco? Megalibrarygirl (talk) 02:23, 23 March 2019 (UTC)
oh my! Coolabahapple (talk) 02:35, 23 March 2019 (UTC)

(Please excuse this post if it is a duplicate!)

FYI about the sections you removed from this page

I noticed your edit summary; the sections failed to archive because they did not contain any properly formatted signatures. The archive bot relies on the latest timestamp to decide whether a section is eligible for archiving; no timestamp = no archiving. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 19:37, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

That makes sense, Dodger67. The mystery is solved. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 16:32, 29 March 2019 (UTC)
