I'm wishing you a Merry Christmas, because that is what I celebrate. If you don't like Christmas or just don't celebrate it in any of its forms, then please accept a generic "Happy Holidays". If you celebrate no holidays at this time of year, then hopefully you will be satisfied with an even more generic "Season's Greetings".  :)

@The Bushranger: Deleting the image it is fine. I was a bit saddened that after my work improving the article when at AFD #1, the nominator of AFD #2 failed to notify me as "an interested editor who had worked on the article". No matter... as notability is found through coverage and not through article content nor release nor budget, and to show it can be done through diligence, I am going to work on bringing THIS back as a better and less-susceptible-to-attack article back to mainspace. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Future of Food[edit]

Good work there. I concede.

I do think you could've been a bit less aggressive - we are all in his for Wikipedia, after all, and while my presumption that the title was too generic to get good results probably should have been checked, it came on the back of a couple similar documentaries that I had tried to find sources for and failed utterly.

I have to admit, "I have sources!" is one of the more annoying things one can get shown in a AFD - about a quarter the time - like here - you get decent sources that prove the point. In other cases... you get really terrible sources that you have to spend hours analysing to show they're just passing mentions.

Anyway, point being, you're correct, but tone down the snark, maybe. I've asked for the nomination to be withdrawn. There's been no delete votes, so should be possible. =) Adam Cuerden (talk) 12:11, 31 December 2015 (UTC)

As for Peaceable Kingdom... That's trickier. I think you'll agree the references there are a lot weaker. If we could get two strong sources, I'd happily concede, but what we have now is a lot of weak sourcing that might or might not prove the point... I'm happy to withdraw a deletion nomination in the face of unambiguous evidence, but we're still in judgement call territory. Adam Cuerden (talk) 12:53, 31 December 2015 (UTC)

@Adam Cuerden: Fine and thank you. But you really need to pay attention to WP:NRVE and use a more diligent WP:BEFORE. Point here being is that notability for even the crappiest unsourced one-sentence stub is totally dependent upon topic sources being available and not upon their use. The article on The Future of Food itself offered links to sources which should have been researched.[1][2][3][4] So when a nominator says "bare smattering of coverage", he sets a tone of failure and implies to other editors that he looked at them in his research and the available sources were crap. My own finding within minutes and sharing of in-depth articles a dozen reliable sources is not an empty "I have sources", but rather a more proper offering per policy and guideline of "dude, we have sources they were easy to find". Please be more careful in the Happy New Year. Schmidt, Michael Q. 17:23, 31 December 2015 (UTC)

Question[edit]

I'm a bit confused over the inclusion of films that are filmed in a language other than English, and not captioned. Also, shouldn't the sources also be cited in English? I've been seeing image captions of movie promotions in other languages, and also some RS in other languages. Can you point me to the PAGs that cover how it should be handled? Thank you in advance. Atsme📞📧 15:38, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

@Atsme: Sure, while English language sources are preferred, for films produced outside the west they are not always available. And, as notability is dependent on coverage, non-English coverage is perfectly fine if English language sources are unavailable. Read WP:NONENG, and WP:NCF. "Article coming"[edit]

Hello, Michael, I hope you are well. Regarding the entry to the Chapman University article list of notable people, which you labelled as "article coming" - it's always best to write the article first and then to make the links to it. I didn't revert, due to my regard for you, but I do suggest that you not pre-link in the future. Best, BMK (talk) 00:38, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Rabid[edit]

Rabid was of course intended in humour, a synonym of energetic and enthusiastic exaggerated to extreme. I know my humour is not very clever. I am always very glad to see you around. The deletionists (people would would delete even if in doubt) are increasingly the ones who turn up. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 09:12, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

No issue. I respect what you said, how you said it, and agree. My response was intended for those deletionists who always show up, because fixing articles to serve the project is not wrong. Wow. If only the others would return instead of making a hit-and-run. The nominator is not accepting logical arguments and it is poor form to promise if the discussion closes against his opinion with a keep after eleven days, he'll take it to DRV. It is not a vote, but to be decided by policy and guideline over personal opinion. Essentially, twenty poor deletes do not outweigh one or two policy and guideline based arguments. Schmidt, Michael Q. 09:52, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
Hasteur is pretty good, in my opinion. However, as nominator, few nominators are open to persuasion to change their mind. In making the nomination you then, I think I see, get a commitment to dig in. I've made few nominations, but I note that I feel a fool if made to change my mind and withdraw the nomination. However, as a mere uninvolved !voter, there is no shame in changing mind on the basis of others input. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 11:28, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

Here Dhoka (2007 film), as it turns out the page for Dhoka is ALSO from 2007! I was going to move it back, but it wont let me now. (I think a hat note is needed for both films), when I saw that the main page was for a film with the same name I didn't expect that they both be from the same year. (odd that it seems no other film has this name, but the 2 that do are from the same year? I have no clue what to say!) Wgolf (talk) 22:47, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Sorcha Faal[edit]

Hi MichaelQSchmidt Here is the information they wanted deleted from the Sorcha Faal article as dichotomies such as this are never allowed to survive. Maybe you can put it back in, but if you do, watch how fast it will disappear:

In 2016, Russian newspaper Trud claimed that Faal was affiliated with foreign intelligence services:

Experts noted that the Sorcha Faal's website is a "flush tank", through which one of the groups of American military and political elite merges information uncomfortable for their opponents. "Of course, for the project are special services, but who exactly‍—‌to understand yet difficult: British MI6, Mossad, CIA, DIA (Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense) and the American National Security Agency, for example," said professor of the Diplomatic Academy of Russia Igor Panarin. "Of course, it is an element of information warfare, but within the American elite".[1]

In 2016, Russian channel REN TV alleged, without offering proof, that Sorcha Faal was a portal for unnamed intelligence services.[2]

Concerns that Faal was in some way affiliated with the U.S. government were first raised in 2009 by the conservative political advocacy organization Americans for Limited Government when they posted on their website[3] a Freedom of Information Act reply from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that stated 10 Faal articles had been used by the DHS in compiling their controversial report titled Right-wing Extremism Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment.[4]

In 2016, a Faal report alleging that two U.S. military helicopters were shot down by Turkey over Syria was widely reported by mainstream Russia media sources including Свободная пресса‍—‌Википедия[5] and Trud[6] with the Sputnik news agency (in their German language edition) reporting that the United States Department of Defense denied this happened with Pentagon spokeswoman Michelle Baldanza stating "This is an absolute lie"[7] and Trud still commenting on it a subsequent article about Turkey.[8]

@JohnCD: I gve it a face-lift, but in its lacking notability, perhaps a mention in and redirect to the initiating Arts Council of Wales? Schmidt, Michael Q. 22:03, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

Deletion[edit]

Can't believe Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Brandon Brooks (actor) was deleted. Can you or Lugnuts recreate? So familiar as that surfer dude from Malibu CA, perhaps he doesn't have the sourcing?♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:26, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

Infobox film and plainlist[edit]

If you look at {{infobox film}}, it explicitly says to use {{plainlist}} to separate multiple items. I'm not sure where you're getting this thing that says MOS:FILM says we should use {{ubl}}. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 09:08, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

@NinjaRobotPirate: Old habits I suppose. When I first began expanding infoboxes, I found that {{plainlist}} looked and felt clunky and so I became accustomed to using {{ubl}} because it was easier to use and looked sleeker and... this may only be me... I read the template header explanation "All parameters are optional" as not stating that "only" {{plainlist}} should or must be "explicitly" used without exception. Be well. Hi ! Hope you are doing good. In case you are interested and your time permits, could you please help me cleaning up the aforementioned article? Looking forward for a response. Thanks ! Ch.th (talk) 10:34, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

How Funny[edit]

Unless you can find a fellow Administrator to undertake an early close to the AfD discussion, as it has been recently relisted, this may just have to wait until sufficient time has passed. Thanks btw for the work that you undertook to improve the article. Dan arndt (talk) 06:32, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

You're welcome Dan, and I'm always happy to work on topics that can be improved. As AFD is not a simple count of heads and should be based upon an evaluation of arguments and the work to address issues, my hope is that a drive-by closer does not ignore improvements and then lazily close as no-consensus. We shall see. Thanks for your withdrawal at the How Funny AFD. Green tickY Schmidt, Michael Q. 17:30, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Facter[edit]

As an Administrator can you advise whether an AfD lodged by a sockpuppet of a blocked user is still a valid AfD or should the AfD be dismissed? BTW I hope you don't mid but I paraphrased some of your comments in my justification on this AfD. Dan arndt (talk) 10:14, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

Highfive (company)[edit]

Hi. I spent quite a lot of time expanding and improving this article. I spotted a poorer quality stub and worked on it. I have no idea why it was deleted. It was reliably sourced to over 20 credible sources, and I made sure it was written neutrally and encyclopedically. Look about on the web and you'll see it meets content guidelines. I've not been editing here long but if this is the how my work gets treated I'm not sure I want to continue here. Please look at is and restore to my user space or recreate it, thanks.CLHoyas97 (talk) 16:25, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

@CLHoyas97: It is not so much about the article or its sourcing (which on the face of it seem reasonable), but was deleted as suspected and undisclosed paid editing by a sockfarm. Better that you read this and then write to BethNaught... to explain your edits and ask that if it is determined that you are not part of a sockfarm that the deletion might be reconsidered. Schmidt, Michael Q. 04:08, 29 July 2016 (UTC)

(Page stalker). Mind if I take a look at it MQ, can you put it in the user space? Sometimes some decent content can get deleted when there is a mass deletion. Judging by this editor's recent article work I would be highly surprised if this was the same editor involved. We don't want to frighten away potential good editors either!♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:12, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

@Dr. Blofeld: Have a look at User:Dr. Blofeld/Highfive (company). I think it was improved enough to no longer be the one-edit work of a sockfarm, but when spoken of with the deleting Admin, she did not want to reverse herself and buck the ANI discussion and suggested a DRV. CLHoyas97, work with Dr. Blofeld and it may well come back. Schmidt, Michael Q. 08:14, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for that. At quick glance I see nothing glaringly promotional about it and seems to meet GNG and neutrality guidelines, it certainly has the coverage in reliable sources and seems to be notable in its field. How many articles got deleted? It would be good to see a list. I agree that nuking the work of the sockfarmer was justified to deter them, and fully understand why Beth would feel uncomfortable acting in this situation. The sock doesn't own the article subjects though. I would guess that some of the articles which got deleted were actually notable. A problem arises though when a company wants an article on wikipedia and under normal circumstances it would be meet notability requirements. Our job is to document all notable information, so if we ignore and are intolerant of subjects because that subject might want the article we're not doing our job properly, as much as we need to send them a message that it's totally not acceptable. The best solution would be to assess what is notable and what isn't and ensure that if the articles are restarted that they're completely devoid of promotion and the gushing material you often get from PR people. I don't share the view with some people on here that if a company wants an article we completely block it from existing. If the article subject meets GNG then the article should exist, regardless. We need to find some middle ground on here in acknowledging this sort of thing I think, as companies (and hotels) typically get a very hard time on wikipedia and do face a sort of discrimination, and not all are paid PR work, or have neutrality problems. Each article needs to be assessed independently and checked for notability and neutrality.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:05, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

@Ritchie333: Can you do me a favour and read User:Dr. Blofeld/Highfive (company). It appears to meet GNG and to be written neutrally to me, with significant coverage in reliable publications like Bloomberg, San Francisco Chronicle and Los Angeles Times, but I want a further opinion on this.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:28, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) As the original proposer of the ANI that resulted in a community ban and WP:TNT of every article produced by the sock farm, I was careful to include one caveat in my proposal. Articles that had been significantly expanded or changed should warrant exclusion -- provided a neutral review of the article determined it met the criteria for inclusion and met our guidelines for WP:PROMO. Mkdwtalk 16:02, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

@Mkdw: Thanks for that, yes Beth said that this one was the exception. OK, I'll deal with this, it certainly seems to meet WP:PROMO. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:47, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Punjab edit-a-thon extends till 6 August[edit]

The Punjab edit-a-thon has been extended till 6 August 2016. You can create/expand articles till 6 August. Please let me know if you have questions and thanks once again. Face-smile.svg --Tito Dutta (talk) 07:21, 30 July 2016 (UTC)

Brandon Brooks[edit]

I completely forgot about him BTW, you put him in the user space somewhere. I thought he'd be easily notable but recall that there wasn't much material available on him.♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:18, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Do you think there's enough to salvage it? He's a pretty well known actor, so surprising if it had to remain deleted!♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:54, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
