Re: Jesse James Dupree

[edit]

The page does not get a lot of editing traffic, that is true. However, the added content must follow Wikipedia's guidelines regarding conflict of interest, reliable sources, and neutral point of view. In its state before my most recent edits, the article read like it was written by Dupree's promotions team. Chubbles (talk) 13:48, 15 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is a work in progress, I am trying to fit in everything that I have researched and found to be factual as opposed to opinion. By changing some of the language and adding sources I think it will turn out alright in the end. It will just take awhile to put together as I believe the sections need to be restructured and rewritten as well. Any feedback is welcomed, you can send a message or post here if you see something that needs to be addressed. Of course, everyone is free to edit pages, I just have this sketched out and will be updating when I have time. My background in writing seems to be something I need to work on as I have done a lot of promotional writing in the past. Perhaps this is why it seemed to read that way. Hopefully, I will do a good job on this without sounding like a promoter! Thank you. Ask Molly 19:26, 15 August 2014 (UTC)

In this case, I didn't revert, but rather cut from the then-current revision - but since I removed quite a bit, it probably looks about the same as before. It's fine to add more biographical information (the article has little to say, for instance, about Dupree's early life), but the article should be pulling its information from third-party sources such as newspapers, books, and magazines (print or online), rather than from sources such as websites directly managed by Dupree or his business interests. Also, much of the wording I removed was very promotional in tone, and I don't think you will find much argument about that among Wikipedia regulars - "utilizing his entrepreneurial vision" and "challenging the limits previously set upon the entertainment industry" is the kind of prose that advertisers use, not encyclopedias (at least, not well-written ones). He's not a hero; he's a musician with an LLC, and that can and should be imparted with much more neutral wording, even if the end result is rather more staid and banal in tone. Chubbles (talk) 22:35, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Your points are not lost on me, I'm not sure if you remember, but awhile back I left a note letting you know my background is in promotions and some journalism. So, I am battling the transition and welcome constructive criticism. I am trying to work on the page using the most current information first and then plan to back into more personal items (you will see the headers at the bottom), so that is coming as I believe the history of a person is in great part what drives them to become who they are (just my opinion on why bio info is important). I believe some of the cites used (online) are being misconstrued as "his", perhaps it is my wording that is causing this. For example, he has no business interest or control over TruTV's website or its content, so I believe this to be a usable source. There are very few sites that are managed by him and even fewer that are kept in an updated fashion. It is difficult to bring to light all of the projects he is involved with without having the time to break it out into sections as you have seen me working toward. The other issues I had with that person's "edits" were that they were unfounded. The first one that jumped out at me was "All bourbons are made in America", they are not. It is an American invention but bourbons are made all over the world and I feel it is important to mention this is an American made bourbon. The Wikipedia pages for whiskeys and bourbons break them out and some are classified as to country of origin; I've had you read enough for now, so I'll leave it here. I will be updating the page and double checking sources and promotional language. Thank you for your input here. Best to you. Ask Molly (talk) 22:54, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As far as sourcing is concerned, the gold standard isn't distance from the subject, although that is still important. It's really more some demonstrated process of peer review - academics and journalists both have to fact-check and corroborate their publications with others in order to show the trustworthiness of their assertions, so they are usually considered the most authoritative sources. Blogs, official company websites, etc. may be distant from the subject, but their claims are usually not held to the same disciplinary or professional standards, and so as a general rule they are not normally considered good enough, or at least a more authoritative source is likely to "trump" them in the case of conflicting accounts. That's not to say you can't use them at all, but that they are more likely to be challenged and removed. Also, it's not usually necessary to provide a citation to an official website to prove something's existence; that tends to come across as more promotional (almost like link-spamming) than genuinely informative or corroborative. It's probably worth your time to take a look through the guideline at WP:RS, which explains Wikipedia's evaluative process for sources. It will be very useful to you as you spend more time editing here. Chubbles (talk) 02:52, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Chubbles, this is valuable information. I have recently been "adopted" by an editor on here and hope to learn a lot more than I have already. I appreciate your input and welcome future comments should you see any further edits that may need attention. 24.99.49.178 (talk) 14:45, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

[edit]

I'm all ready to set up your adoption classroom! Please respond on this talk page if you're still interested in becoming my adoptee. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 02:29, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, please! What do I need to do next? Thank you so much! Ask Molly 15:18, 19 August 2014 (UTC)
As part of the adoption process, you will have your own adoption "classroom". This is where your lessons will take place and you can ask all the questions you want :) It is located at User:Missionedit/Adoption/Molly's Mind. You may want to add it to your watchlist so that you can know when some one edits it.
If you don't know how to add something to your watchlist, it's easy. Go to the page you would like to put on your watchlist, and click the little star next to the "View history" tab at the top of the page. If you want to take a page off your watchlist, just click the star again. You can access your watchlist at anytime by clicking the "Watchlist" button at the very top of the page, between the "Beta" and "Contributions" buttons. Your watchlist will show the most recent change to the pages you're watching within the past few days. If the page has not been edited within the past few days, your watchlist will not show it. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 21:30, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I just spent almost an hour answering the adoption questions, saved, and then got an error code. The response showed up but Wiki did not save it!! It showed this

"AFCH ERRROR CODE: User not listed...." there is more, I saved it as an image but I can't upload images, so frustrated. Ask Molly 16:10, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

I think what happened is that somehow your one change got saved as identical two changes, one after the other. This produced the error code, but both your changes were (again, somehow) saved. I fixed the page formatting, and your answers are not lost after all. Happy ending :)
Don't forget to check your watchlist, I responded in your adoption classroom about images. It's a good idea to get in the habit of checking your watchlist; that way if someone who's page you're watching forgets to leave you a talkback message, you can still know that they've responded to you. If you want to experiment with the {{ping}} template, it's another way of letting someone know you've responded. Just place {{ping|(the user you're responding to)}} at the beginning of your post, and it will make that user's little gray box (at the very top of the page with the "0" in it, next to the link to their userpage) turn red. I'll use it once on your adoption page to show you. This way is a much less obtrusive way of notifying someone, but many people don't how to use it as it is fairly recent. Try it out and see what you think! ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 16:11, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Mlpearc. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to the main body of Jesse James Dupree. Generally, any relevant external links should be listed in an "External links" section at the end of the article and meet the external links guidelines. Links within the body of an article should be internal Wikilinks. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Clarification

[edit]

Sorry if you misunderstood--you have not graduated the adoption process yet. The userbox I suggested to you only says that you are currently being adopted by someone, there is another userbox once you have graduated. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 04:29, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was just referring to the actual PROCESS that you set up, not implying that I have completed adoptee training, so sorry for the confusion there! Ask Molly (talk) 20:14, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK, just making sure :) ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 20:53, 23 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I dare not do anything that may cause anyone to want to slap me with a trout, especially my adopter! :-) Wiki time and reading for me tomorrow. Ask Molly (talk) 04:03, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, you are my adoptee, and I am your adopter, but I get your meaning :-D ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 16:32, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Corrected, sorry about that, ADOPTER! 24.99.49.178 (talk) 21:31, 24 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Don't forget to sign in every time you edit. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 01:57, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

AHHHH!! I do sign every time...problem is, I forget to SIGN IN FIRST! Maybe I need a trout upside the head for that!! Ask Molly (talk) 14:47, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nah, you don't need one :) Happens to everyone when they first get an account. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 17:38, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Saved from the trout lashing! Thanks for the pass. I'm going to have to see how my time goes over the next 2 weeks (ish) and then let you know what kind of commitment I can stick with. I meant to be on yesterday but, that didn't work out. I want to make sure you aren't wondering where I am, if I'm still out here, etc. I am online most days as my job requires it; would you like for me to let you know how much time per week I can commit or what days/times? Just want to stay on top of things and make sure you know I value your time and efforts.Ask Molly (talk) 18:29, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, you can do that if you like. As long as you get your lessons done eventually, I'm happy :) ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 03:37, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm on it, boss! SAVE A TROUT!Ask Molly (talk) 03:55, 26 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Lesson reminder!

[edit]

Don't forget to respond to the lesson at your adoption page--lots more is waiting to be plowed through once you're done with that! :) ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 03:02, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reminder. I will be studying tonight and let you know where I leave off :-) It's been a crazy week but I have not left!! Ask Molly (talk) 19:52, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Big trout upside the head for you! :D

[edit]

Whack!

You've been whacked with a wet trout.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly.

You have been trouted for: Not logging in before editing (more than once!). Don't forget to log in before editing anything--to help you remember, you may just want to keep yourself logged in on your regular computer if you own it. ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 01:55, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Now I know where that fishy smell is coming from. I have showered 15 times today, I have been schooled (<<hheeh punny). Lesson learned, "Momma" Anastasia. Once I am allowed out of my room I will continue with my studies... Ask Molly (talk) 21:19, 5 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hey Molly, just wanted to let you know that I will be taking a vacation from Wikipedia for the next month (October) and won't be posting lessons during that time. However, you're still welcome to ask questions on my talk page and I'll respond when I have time. Thanks and God bless! ~ Anastasia [Missionedit] (talk) 18:11, 2 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Return from the wicked

[edit]

Hi Anastasia, I am back for a bit. So sorry for the long absence. I have been sick and trying to get better. I would like to resume if you are still willing to have me.
