Olduvai Hominid 8 ‎[edit]

I write with regard to my short (soon to be expanded) entry about the Olduvai (OH8) foot. It was found by Richard Leakey's father Louis Leaky in the early 60's. I spent the early '90's working on this assembalge at The University of Western Australia. Currently I am working on this and other pedal fossil remains at The University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg with my academic collegaue, Dr Bernhard Zipfel. I am new to writing for Wikipedia, and am learning quickly. However, I assure you of the facts.

about Bettina Varde´s article[edit]

I cleaned Mrs. Varde´s curriculum. Also, I never had contact with her in person. Only a few emails asking pictures and data confirmation. I never saw Bettina Varde in person despite we live in the same country.

If actors, actress and dancers born in the USA has spanish wikipedia articles why people born outside USA are forbidden at english version ?

Excuse my poor english. I not practice the language a long time ago.

There are plenty of notable people from Argentina (see Category:Argentine people), but User:Ttonyb1 nominated your article for deletion on grounds of WP:Notability. I see that you've already contacted User:Ttonyb1 about his nomination for deletion, so at this point it's up to you to find some WP:References from WP:Reliable sources to show notability, both for Bettina Varde and es:Bettina Varde. Let me know if you need any help with formatting etc. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 08:40, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

fairs and funfairs[edit]

hi muffledthud, i'm not sure the change you just made in the category for "speyer brezelfest" is correct. it looks very much out of place in "annual fair" category, even though it is an annual funfair. oktoberfest and all the other big german fairs should then also be in this category, but they are not. perhaps you'd like to reconsider. cheers.Sundar1 (talk) 11:59, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

OK, I'll revert it now, thanks. MuffledThud (talk) 11:59, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

the page "diane davis"[edit]

i recently created a page with the above name. it was not made to attack a person however i do see that it may look that way. i made it purely to entertain my friend (she is the person whose name is the title of the page). i realise this is no excuse however i merely want to make it clear that the page was not made to attack anyone or cause any harm or threats what so ever. thank you.

El Parador Cafe[edit]

I created a page for a legendary restaurant in New York City, El Parador Cafe. It is 50 years old, the oldest Mexican restaurant in NYC. There are plenty of other wiki pages about commercial dining establishments (e.g., the Four Seasons). I was hoping that the page could be properly userfied and then re-launched. Pls advise. Thanks.

Regarding Tata Aria[edit]

I started Tata Aria which you tagged with speedy deletion. Tata Aria have been launched few hours back by Tata Motors, kindly check Google News or other sites. Therefore it deserves to have its own article.

--Anmol.2k4 (talk) 15:04, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Quite right. I nominated it for deletion, because it was completely empty, but you've created a fine article there now, thanks. MuffledThud (talk) 15:05, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
The speedy tag got replaced, but I have declined it because the article now has content. It was maybe rather premature to tag it only two minutes after creation - I know newbies ought to know enough to flesh an article out a bit before pressing "Save page", but many of them don't, and some are less persistent than this one and give up if a speedy tag appears almost at once. In a case like this, I would be inclined to make a note of it and wait 5 - 10 minutes to see if more appears. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 15:44, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Also right. I normally do wait, but was too quick on this one. Thanks for the heads-up. MuffledThud (talk) 15:47, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Well I made that silly mistake because of the Beta interface, I am not used to this new interface so was trying to revert back to old one and in process accidentally saved empty article. Sorry about that. --Anmol.2k4 (talk) 16:33, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
No worries! Wouldn't have been a problem if I weren't so quick off the button... MuffledThud (talk) 22:35, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Callabona red[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Callabona red has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

In production with nothing notable about that production

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Eeekster (talk) 10:40, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi, looks like the shoe's on the other foot for a change today, as I'm going to try to rescue this one if poss. :-) MuffledThud (talk) 10:45, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

jamming arabs article, tikirussy[edit]

Hello there,

I'm confused as to why my article about the Jamming Arabs is to be deleted. I am no longer a member of this band and therefore I don't quite see why this could be a conflict of interest. In addition, I have quite clearly listed the bands output in terms of singles (one), album (one) and compilation records (two). These albums are still available for purchase however the record label no longer exists hence the lack of references.

I strongly feel that this article is valid and warrents submission. The band, although no longer gigging, had a strong influence on many local bands and there are quite a few favourable reviews of the album out there on the net.

If you could explain to me why the article is being deleted and what I could do to stop this from happening, I would be truly grateful.

Russell —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tikirussy (talkcontribs) 11:23, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello, WP:COI is a secondary issue here, the main problem is notability per WP:BAND. I can't find any coverage of them on WP:Reliable sources, but if you can steer me to some I'd be happy to help you rescue the article from deletion. I've been wrong about this before. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 11:25, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Criteria for musicians and ensembles Shortcuts: WP:BAND WP:MUSICBIO A musician or ensemble (note that this includes a band, singer, rapper, orchestra, DJ, musical theatre group, etc.) may be notable if it meets at least one of the following criteria:

Has released two or more albums on a major label or one of the more important indie labels (i.e., an independent label with a history of more than a few years and a roster of performers, many of which are notable). Okay, I admit that Alopecia Records wasn't the biggest record label, but they did produce most of England's surf/garage music during their time. The fact that the Jamming Arabs were on this record label therefore would indicate that they were an important group in this genre.

Has become the most prominent representative of a notable style or of the local scene of a city; note that the subject must still meet all ordinary Wikipedia standards, including verifiability. This is a tricky one. The Jamming Arabs were certainly the most prominent surf group in NE England, but it might also be true to say that they were one of the only surf groups!

Has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g. a theme for a network television show, performance in a television show or notable film, inclusion on a notable compilation album, etc. (But if this is the only claim, it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that article.) Again, tricky. One of their songs (unreleased and so not subject to copyright) was used for Hartlepool Tourist Board but it's impossible to reference this as there was no money involved and so no deals exist.

Has been the subject of a half hour or longer broadcast across a national radio or TV network. The Jamming Arabs appeard on Radio Tees for a live session, DJ was Bob Fisher. The band also appeared in the local paper, The Evening Gazette on a two page spread as a local band that actualy had a record deal. Sadly I can find no record of this paper.

I hope that is enough? It would be a shame not to record this band...... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tikirussy (talkcontribs) 11:37, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

I think you've answered the question pretty comprehensively there: we have to be able to prove notability for inclusion.
I've been bitten by this myself: I was once in a band that was hugely popular in the city I'm from, but could find no coverage online, and since I don't live there anymore I couldn't get to the local library to search newspaper archives. So the article got deleted, and my Brush With Greatness remains hidden. Maybe the archives will get digitized and put online one day, and I can have another go. MuffledThud (talk) 11:45, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

That's too bad - I did a quick google for Brush With Greatness and got a load of Simpsons you release any stuff? Now I'm curious! What kind of music did you play?

Onto a slightly more selfish topic, does this mean my article will be published? I would so dearly love for it to be there, as I do (and no ego getting involved!) genuinely believe that the band was a significant band in the Middlesbrough area. Not always the most popular with the Brit-Pop crowd, but certainly a signifcant band none the less. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tikirussy (talkcontribs) 11:53, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

No, the band wasn't called Brush With Greatness, that was just my lame attempt at humor. :-) Best to let the AFD discussion take its course at this point. I may be proven wrong, as I mentioned, so be sure to post to the AFD discussion and make your points known there. MuffledThud (talk) 12:04, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism in western Orissa[edit]

Urgent action needed for Repeated act of Vandalism by one user and one IP in Western Orissa article[edit]

Dear Pranab,

It doesn't give any sense by deleting content of other peoples. If you have any creative idea of expressions then go on and state your says or stands but this act of deletion of content is an act of utter cowardice.

I'd draw the attention of the moderator to ban such people permanently from wiki.

Request you to please take strict action against the IP and Pranabrulez ( as they are abusing and threatening me.....

DO you knw the real reason behind his act?? He wants a separate state out of my beloved state of orissa(In eastern India).. Please dnt let him use Wikipedia as a tool for spreading his vandalism. I request you. If possible, Please do a google search on the kosal state he is talking about.. U will guess by the no of irrelevant results, how feeble the topic is.. Plz stop him doing so.. I have no opinion about the subject, which is fortunate since my opinion has nothing to do with it. If you want to make a major change to an actively-maintained article, or nominate it for deletion, then you need to discuss it on the article's talk page first and get consensus for the change. And personal attacks including threats of arrest on other editors' user pages, like this edit you made, will get you blocked from editing. MuffledThud (talk) 13:51, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
  • Pranab, why are u thretaning and abusing Mr. Satyajit Nayak. The Koshal page is a collection of news articles and web sites. So go and fight with the editors of news papers. Stop abusing please! RUdgata (talk) 23:50, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
  • Mr. Pranab, as I told you earlier that each word in the article western orissa is support by relevent references and for your information this article is here for the last three years and a lot of discussions were done about this article. So you should better refer to the older discussion instead of personally attacking me....There are enough neutral sites which support each and every words in this instead of shouting at me should shout at the editiors of those newpapers and magazines which was referred for the creation of this article...So by shouting you can not suppress the stop your repeated act of vandalism and move on...Satyajit Nayak (talk) 10:30, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
  • Mr Pranab and Mr. What is the point in deleting and vandalizing wiki profiles? There are many leading news agency of India like PTI, IANS, CNN-IBN, India Today etc. are reporting about the things happening in western Orissa or Koshal region. I would say Mr. Satyajit Nayak has done a good job by collecting all these articles in one page. Therefore, refrain from threatening and abusing others. Skarmee (talk) 10:34, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Dear Muffed, Hope you are doing good.. I think i wuould like to make a point here. Koshal as of now doesnt exist. The state of orissa (in eastern India) is as such a single united entity as of now. In every state around the world , u will find some few disgruntled fellows. So, somewhere in my state u will very few people having separatist feelings. Mr.Satyajit is one of them as we all would have guessed by now. I am an old man(52 years) and i have travelled extensively in my state of orissa.I can assure you that, people like him are very few and rare. Ok, i will suggest you one thing, Why dont you search yourself the word "Koshal" in Google. You will be astonished to see the few and irrelevant results. No body cares about Koshal except few individuals like satyajit who are hell bent on breaking my state.

So, i will request you not to encourage such individuals like Satyajit. Let the state of Koshal come into existence, then he can write an article named Koshal. For now its Western orissa and plz son i request you to remain as such...

Rakesh Das.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rakesh143 (talkcontribs) 08:42, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

For some people Koshal doesn't exist as of now, but for the people of this locality Koshal is there from the beginning and it will be there. This is not the vision of any individual but it is the voice of Koshli people. There is nothing like separatist. They are bringing the awareness amongst the people in a peaceful way. But some notorious and colonial mentality people are trying to delete the contents from the Wiki and they should be banned. Satyajit Das has done a good research on the area and whatever he has written are correct.

Grace Gummer[edit]

I have removed the {{db-person}} that you placed on Grace Gummer. I believe a credible assertion of notability is made (daughter of famous actress embarking on her own career with theater reviews in the NY Times and a major series on a major cable network upcoming). The Tides Of Time[edit]

Hi MuffledThud, I am quite new to Wikipedia so perhaps I've made a mistake. In any case, you have placed my article entitled 'The Tides Of Time' for speedy deletion, despite the fact that this is a totally genuine article, about a genuine classical music album (The Tides Of Time) released by a totally genuine artist (Mr. Polo Piatti) and released by a genuine label (Seafront Records in the UK). I don't know why you have done this but I can assure you that the information published in my article is all justified, true and verifiable. I simply wanted to give this album the relevance it deserves after its release. As mentioned previously (and although I have contributed to Wikipedia before) I am quite new and not entirely "at home" with all of Wikipedia's editing procedures, uploading of files, etc. I just need some help from someone at your end with a bit of time to help me publish this article. Please let me know how to proceed. Many thanks for your understanding. I look forward to hearing from you. Magiko (talk) 15:25, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome. The album's existence isn't in question, but rather its notability: please have a read of WP:NALBUMS, and if you still believe it qualifies under those guidelines for inclusions then please let me know how I can help. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 15:30, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

MuffledThud, You have accused me of Sock puppetry! I NEVER impersonated anyone. I just used a different address (Magiko) just as a pseudonym in order to protect my identity as an artist while on Wikipedia. I asked you for HELP and you simply deleted my article! You are being absolutely unjust and unreasonable. How can you do that? Is there no one who wants to help enrich Wikipedia instead of acting as a dictator? Magiko (talk) 16:38, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

User:Magiko asked for help, but as you have now admitted, that was simply you hoping to get your non-notable album promoted here, and claiming you were "quite new to Wikipedia", despite having been actively adding spam links and other disruptive edits using at least two user accounts since 2007. I suggest you add your points of view on dictatorship and enrichment to the discussion at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Magiko. MuffledThud (talk) 16:48, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

It is quite sad that you don't get it MuffledThud! I didn't want to promote anything or impersonate anyone. If I wanted to do that I wold have asked friends of mine (computer experts with Wikipedia knowledge) to do it for me. But I am not that type of person. I simply assumed a PSEUDONYM to protect my privacy and identity as an artist and was just naive in trying to collaborate with Wikipedia under that second, pseudonym account (as I have done before) and just made some mistakes (also in past edits). As I mentioned before, I am not an expert on this. Believe it or not, NONE of my past contributions have EVER been either malicious or out of vanity or out of some sort of promotional thirst. The sad part is that you seem to assume people to be vandals without researching them properly. You can check my website and see for yourself who I am, what I have done in my career in the past, and see that I am a serious artist. I am too old to need Wikipedia as a promotional too. Life is too short for that, MuffledThud! You should know that to abuse your "power" IS dictatorship. I asked for your help and you deleted my entry. I have now asked for help and hope to get a Mentor (Airplaneman). I will then fight your accusations if he helps me bring my point properly. If no-one helps me, I will stop dealing with Wikipedia altogether once and for all. Simply because I truly don't deserve to be treated like you have treated me. Polo Piatti (talk) 17:52, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Let's get this straight: MuffledThud didn't delete any of the pages you/Magiko created. He couldn't have, as he isn't an administrator (as far as I know). The reason you are at SPI is because it looks like you, as Magiko, failed to declare your use of a second account. Furthermore, you used the second account to remove a deletion tag from an article created by the first account. This lead MuffledThud to assume that your second account was used for promotional purposes; instead of contesting deletion with a {{hangon}}, you removed the tag entirely, thus abusing your editing privileges. It is very hard to assume that these actions were mistakes, as Magiko has been fairly active, with half a thousand edits. Furthermore, how (in the world) is MuffledThud acting as a dictator? As far as I can see, he's making sure that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia covering notable (and therefore verifiable). I can see that you (Magiko) are working with User:DESiegel to get the article to a point where notability is not in question. I would be glad to help, except that I will be extremely busy in the next two weeks. Regards, Airplaneman talk 23:02, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
P.S. MuffledThud, please feel free to read another post related to this on my talk page as well as the SPI page.

My Brad Chamberlain page[edit]

I am wondering how I can create my own page or maybe if someone can for me. I am a MMA fighter and I'm trying to get my name out on the internet. I'm already on Wikipedia for fighting in Vyper Fight League. I would like to have my own Wikipedia page with a MMA style template with my stats, info and what not if possible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bradchamberlain (talkcontribs) 11:02, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello. It's almost never a good idea to write your WP:Autobiography. The article Brad Chamberlain will probably be deleted by the admins soon, but it's nearly empty at the moment, so no big deal. If you can find me some info online about you from WP:Reliable sources showing notability for inclusion per WP:NSPORT, I'd be happy to create the article for you. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 11:13, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Rising Star Forums Page[edit]

Hi. So, I've read through, and I understand what is and isn't allowed, but I'm not sure how to go about fixing them. I'm also not sure what peacock terms are, or how to go about fixing them. I think the main issue is notability, however I'm going to do some looking and see if I can get some outside sources. I believe I've fixed all of the peacock terms, but my view on this is a bit biased so I may need some pointers on that. Also, thanks a bunch for offering to help. I appreciate it. DoaJ (talk) 16:21, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

OK, let me know if you want a hand with formatting etc. MuffledThud (talk) 16:22, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
I would love a hand with formatting actually. I guess what I think the page currently needs would be a directory at the top, and an image or two. Also, the categories aren't divided like they are on most wikipedia pages. I did it the way that seemed most standard, but clearly not. Would you mind doing that, or simplifying how to for me? It feels like a lot to ask, though, so I understand if not.DoaJ (talk) 18:15, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
I've edited it a bit for WP:NPOV, and formatted it as well, but the issues flagged at the top of the page remain, so more work is needed. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 10:03, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for the assistance. I noticed that the page was also edited for Wikiproject: Anime & Manga. Did you do that? If so, thank you. Also, while I'm still willing to fix those issues, I think there are some important developments that should help the case for that page, especially the Notability issue that is the only problem that may not be fixable. Firstly, after discussing it with the owner of the site, she has said that she will require all staff at Rising Star Forums to create wikipedia users in order to regularly edit and update the page, as well as to assist in fixing those problems. This does not eliminate the Notability problem directly, but may give cause for the 'Ignore All Rules' rule because it's a site of anime&manga fans who are more than willing to edit the pages for the anime and manga that they're individually familiar with. This would help wikipedia because they specifically know about anime and manga that isn't more popular, and therefore are the pages likely to need help. Does this sound reasonable to you, and if it does qualify, then how does one go about advertising that the page is not to be deleted? Again, thanks for the help, and thanks for working with me on this. DoaJ (talk) 19:49, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
Glad to help. But as you mentioned, the article does have a problem with Wikipedia:Notability (web), and I'd definitely recommend that you address that before putting any more effort into adding content, since as it stands it's likely to get deleted over that. Best to also have a read of WP:COI, since it sounds like you may have a problem there too. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 06:31, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Regarding KMML[edit]

I started a article KMML, kerala minerals and metals ltd is a govt owned public sector company. So that I'm not doing any advertisement to it. Thats the only titanium pigment factory in Asia. For more details you can check —Preceding unsigned comment added by Midhuncg (talkcontribs) 08:40, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

That's fine, but you've made the article by pasting copyrighted promotional text from the company's website, rather than writing about the company in your own words. Public ownership of the company doesn't really change this problem. I'll re-write it as a stub. MuffledThud (talk) 08:44, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

I'd be glad to help you establish notability if you can point me at some WP:Reliable sources for this: Facebook and friends don't qualify, but there might be something around we've overlooked. Are you the article's creator User:Ireland68, or its main contributor User:Soccerplayerman? Kondapalli toys[edit]

Hello ! Please point out from which source it has been copied. Sasank Sleeper (talk) 08:54, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

It's in the deletion notice at the top of each article. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 08:56, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
The three articles which you tagged for speedy deletion i.e. Kondapalli toys, Orissa Ikat, Thanjavur art plate are all sourced from a Government of India website [1]. Although I am not an expert of law, I know this much that GoI doesnot claim copyright over its works. Please remove the CSD notice immediately. Sasank Sleeper (talk) 09:19, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Regarding the first article Kondapalli toys, you seemed to have found a violation with []. But I sourced my material from [2] as mentioned above.
I also would like to point out that Government of India is the chief enforcer of the Indian Copyright Act, 1957. Do you think the government is going to copy from somewhere in violation of its rules ? If anything, your source has merely taken material from the GoI which is in public domain and listed the work as copyrighted. Sasank Sleeper (talk) 09:25, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Please respond. Sasank Sleeper (talk) 09:32, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

My apologies for the 13 minutes' delay in responding. No, the gov't of India isn't copying from from somewhere in violation of its rules, but those articles are copying from a GoI website in apparent breach of its copyright: please see Wikipedia:Public domain resources#Caveats. MuffledThud (talk) 09:38, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Please check text at the bottom of [3]. Sasank Sleeper (talk) 09:54, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, but to which text are you referring on that page? MuffledThud (talk) 09:56, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Sasank Sleeper (talk) 09:58, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
That private trademark search organization is not claiming any copyright for Gov't works on their own site, but their site is not involved in this discussion, and their claim doesn't address the issue of the license of the Gov't works which you've copied to these articles. Please provide evidence that the works you've copied are in the public domain. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 10:03, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Consider the link you found i.e. [4]. Check page 85 of that pdf. What does it say ? "Reproduced from pages 32-40 from the Geographical Indications Journal August 1st 2006". He did not say anything about "reproduced with permission". It is in public domain. He doesnot have to take permission. I donot have to take permission Sasank Sleeper (talk) 10:10, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
He may well have merely neglected to mention permission received, so that doesn't appear to guarantee this. MuffledThud (talk) 10:14, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
The same is the case of the trademark search organization. What does it say ? "Only Government work in public domain is republished here for easier and better accessibility and for research purposes as free information to the public." Sasank Sleeper (talk) 10:11, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
That's a trademark lawyer's website, and as I said above, that has nothing to do with this discussion: all he claims is that he hasn't copied anything copyrighted. It may or may not be true, but either outcome is irrelevant here. MuffledThud (talk) 10:14, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
What he claims is that government work is in public domain. The meaning inferred is that atleast some government work is in public domain. Do you atleast agree with that ? What I claim is that all government work is in public domain. Sasank Sleeper (talk) 10:27, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Check [5]. It says “It is not denied that under section 2(k) of the Copyright Act, a work which is made or published under the direction or control of any Court, tribunal or other judicial authority in India is a Government work. Under section 52(q), the reproduction or publication of any judgment or order of a court, tribunal or other judicial authority shall not constitute infringement of copyright of the government in these works. It is thus clear that it is open to everybody to reproduce and publish the government work including the judgment/ order of a court. However, in case, a person by extensive reading, careful study and comparison and with the exercise of taste and judgment has made certain comments about judgment or has written a commentary thereon, may be such a comment and commentary is entitled to protection under the Copyright Act”. Sasank Sleeper (talk) 10:26, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Your link above notes a case Eastern Book Co. v. Navin J. Desai where the judge ruled that all GoI works are in the public domain, but it's not clear whether that decision has still been upheld since that case in 2002. I'm neither a lawyer (thank heavens) nor a Wikipedia admin, so I suggest we leave this dispute to the admins and Wikipedia's legal policies on copyright to decide. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 10:37, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Please change the CSD's to AFD. Sasank Sleeper (talk) 10:40, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Please also see [6], section 3.1 on p.21, which appears to declare to the contrary of the 2002 case noted above. As far as I'm concerned, this is breach of copyright, unless an admin advises otherwise, so let's wait and see what they say. MuffledThud (talk) 10:45, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

What do you want me to do now ? Contact an admin ? Sasank Sleeper (talk) 10:41, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes, you could post at WP:AN if you think that I'm doing something in breach of process. I am happy to be corrected, if so. MuffledThud (talk) 10:45, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Why would I want to report you to an admin ? Sasank Sleeper (talk) 10:51, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Did you contact any admin so far ? Sasank Sleeper (talk) 10:52, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
No, since the articles that are tagged for deletion will be reviewed by an admin in due course. Your "hangon" tag will be noted, and I've linked to this discussion from all three talk pages. MuffledThud (talk) 10:54, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the web guidelines link. Sasank Sleeper (talk) 10:57, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
You're most welcome. I'm sure this will be settled soon, and it's abundantly clear that you're doing your best to stick to WP guidelines, so I will be happy to help you with this in any way I can. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 10:59, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
According to Indian copyright law, which is supported by [7], the GoI does claim copyright of many of its works, but does not claim copyright over several classes of works, including "any matter which has been published in any Official Gazette except an Act of a Legislature" and "the report of any committee, commission, council, board or other like body appointed by the Government if such report has been laid on the Table of the Legislature" and "any judgement or order of a court, tribunal or other judicial authority".
It is not clear to me that the cited source falls into any of these exceptions. But it is not clear that is does not, either, and there may be further exceptions created by court decision as suggested above. This is clearly not a "blatant" and defiant copyright infringement, but an attempt to use what is legitimately believed (possibly incorrectly, IANAL) to be public domain content Accordingly i think this is best handle not vis speedy deletion but though the slower copyright question processes. DES (talk) 17:16, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
I have listed all three pages at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2010 January 16. DES (talk) 17:37, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
Yes, as I mentioned above the copying has clearly been done in good faith. Thanks for listing them at the copyright problems page: that does look like the best way to get a definitive answer on this. MuffledThud (talk) 13:39, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

I did propose it for deletion, in this edit. Someone then came along and improved it, showing he had substantial coverage in the mainstream press. I can't find similar coverage for Peter aldous, so it looks as if he doesn't yet meet the guidelines for notability in WP:POLITICIAN. MuffledThud (talk) 13:31, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Pastor Todd Gaston: Nomination for speedy deletion criteria A7[edit]

Is there anything I can do to keep the article up? Was the article nominated for speedy deletion because he is not important enough? If so, I cannot do anything about that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Clay Dubberly (talkcontribs) 19:49, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

The problem was of the subject apaprently not meeting the notability criteria in WP:BIO. It's possible that there simply wasn't enough information in the article at the time though: if Gatson is notable for reasons outlined in the criteria, then please consider re-creating the article. Dear MuffledThud, I should greatly appreciate your input in the discussions here. The issue concerns the text here (beginning with "These statements are however at odds with the fact that ..."), deleted by User:Taranet. You might like to have a look here as well (under the heading "For your information"). Please note that I strongly suspect that Bluestartoday is a sock puppet, as I indicate here (this user just disappeared as soon as I raised the issue of sock puppetry and the task of deleting the text at issue was taken over by User:Taranet). With thanks in advance, and kind regards, --BF 23:04, 17 January 2010 (UTC).

Bankon language[edit]

MuffledThud accusation of sockpuppetry against me is absolutely wrong. I am Capetien and not someone else; Wikipedia can verify this. The fact is MuffledThud doesn't know anything about Bankon language, and he is acting as someone who refuses to admit the evidence. It would be interesting to know why.

Get the facts :

Yes, you are indeed Capetien, and User:De bourbon-valois is also Capetien; Wikipedia has verified this. The fact is that the links you've provided above do not prove any of the assertions you're making, and are therefore WP:Original research, which is not permissible on Wikipedia. Please consider using another website to advance your theories. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 09:20, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

How can you write an article about something which doesnt exist as such[edit]

I'm not "encouraging" anyone. Here on Wikipedia, editing is a matter of WP:Consensus, so if you want to make major changes to the page, please gain consensus from the other editors on the article's talk page, using persuasion rather than simply summarily removing content. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 08:17, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Dear MuffledThud .Thanks for noticing the sock poppets. It has happened earlier also probably an year back when some of these guys tried to delete the Kosal article but after a round of discussion it was found by the moderators that this article is a genuine the result was to keep this article. These few peoples are deliberately trying to vandalise the article western orissa without even reading it's content. This article is not at all a political one. It's a socio-cultural article about a region called Kosal. It is about the culture, tradition, language and people of Kosal..And regarding the name Kosal.Let me inform these ignorant soul that this part of India is called as Kosal region from the last many centuries..much before it was forcibly merged with Orissa state with out any consensus or vote..If you want to read the history of Kosal then better go to and have a look at it and then try to divert the topic to some useless things. One more thing I wanted to say..I am also getting personal threatening mails from some of these guys.So it's better they should immediately stop abusing me and attacking me personally.Otherwise I have to consult my father who is senior lawyer to take legal action against them as I have enough proof abt their real identity..For example one of them is named Mr.Behura..Thanks again MuffledThud for your pro-active action to keep the reliability of wikipedia.Satyajit Nayak (talk) 17:51, 19 Janualy ry 2010 (UTC)

MT, thanks for tagging this as a copyvio in addition to the G11. Do you have any preference on what I put in the deletion summary when an article is tagged both G11 and G12? So far, I've just been mentioning G11; it's faster for me, and it seems like the "bigger" problem ... if they reword the copyvio, it will still be G11. Hey, I've read your comment about the leon restaurant page not being properly refernced and reading a bit like an advert. The last thing I want is for it to read like an advert. (I'm very much of the Bill Hicks school of thought on marketing:[8] ) Nonetheless Leon restaurants are notable - as they have won a number of awards - thats why I included the text about the awards won. They have significant national coverage. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Confusedmiked (talkcontribs) 15:38, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

What would Bill have made of Wikipedia, I wonder... I'll give the article a quick edit for WP:NPOV, and tag it to show where the refs are needed. It needs some supporting references from WP:Reliable sources showing notability and supporting the claims made, for instance documenting the statement that it's won awards: please try to find some. Hi, my understanding is that Inselbergs include a wide variety of landforms such as monadnocks, bornhardts, buttes and any relatively isolated mountain or peak rising from a relatively flat plain. The appearance of a bornhardt is quite distinct from that of a monadnock or butte, and as such subcategories are justified. (see here for example) cheers Androstachys (talk) 14:51, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

OK, thanks for the explanation. MuffledThud (talk) 14:52, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

i need help[edit]

hey ....i'm new to this. think you could help me get my articles up on Wikipedia? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jsze1 (talkcontribs) 19:08, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi, been away for a day, but I see that since you posted here, you're getting help from other editors at the article incubator. Please do post back here if I can be of any help. MuffledThud (talk) 19:24, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

um...yeah. that other editor isn't as...prompt as you are. i've rewritten the wiki page, if you could, take a look and tell me what you think. btw, i'm having trouble with this. "Once improvement has begun please update this template's "status" parameter to read "status=start". If the article has been here at least a month without improvement, and is unlikely to get any, please use "status=delete".

thank you in advance.(Jsze1 (talk) 14:16, 27 January 2010 (UTC)).

Hi. Wikipedia:Article Incubator/Dustproof Computer doesn't yet appear to add anything to Rugged computer: what's the difference? Wikipedia:Article Incubator/Procedure Proficiency Software still appears to be talking only about 3D-JITT, and searching for the title returns zero Google hits. Can you point me toward any other examples of this type of software? Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 14:23, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

well, the only reason dustproof computer doesn't visibly add to rugged compute because rugged computer doesn't go into the details of what qualifies as a rugged computer aside from the military standard. Dust proof, or dust resistance actually, is part of the criteria for a rugged computer. And yes, the 3D-JITT is being reconstructed with my associate. Actually, now that you've mentioned that google returns zero hits, how can i improve that? If you're asking for examples of dust proof computer, there are plenty. Here are just a few: (Jsze1 (talk) 20:35, 27 January 2010 (UTC)).

Rugged computer has loads of detail on non-military standards, and you are of course welcome to add more to improve it. Both incubator articles still look like borderline ads to me. MuffledThud (talk) 09:06, 28 January

2010 (UTC)

User muffledthud, first off, i want to say thank you, you've been very helpful and patient with me. and i want to let you know that i'm aware of that, and i really do appreciate it, while most others do not. but please don't make accusations like that. the topic of "dust proof computers" is revolutionary, notable. the invention of just about anything is notable. before we go any further, i want to confirm that with you.

but as a aside from that, i need to know what it takes for this page to be acceptable to wikipedia.

btw, how do i find the "deleting administrator"?

once again, thank you in advance. (Jsze1 (talk) 16:57, 28 January 2010 (UTC)).

You're most welcome for the help. But "revolutionary" is a highly subjective word, and I don't think it's applicable to a rugged computer that claims to have improved upon previous techniques for dust filtration. My opinion that the articles are borderline ads isn't an accusation, just an opinion. You can find the deleting admin for an article by looking at the logs for those articles, which in this case are currently at Dustproof Computer and Procedure Proficiency Software. MuffledThud (talk) 03:02, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

there is no reason to associate this with a rugged computer. rugged computers aren't dust proof, only dust resistant. and if improved products aren't revolutionary, then you should say the same for the first calculator, to the computer we have now, or propellers to jet engines. it is revolutionary. if i take off the link to DDI, would it stop being an add?

still. the big question still stands. what needs to be done to make this page be posted live on the Wikipedia website. thanks (Jsze1 (talk) 17:06, 29 January 2010 (UTC)).

I disagree with that analogy: the difference between a calculator and a modern computer, or the difference between prop technology and jet technology, is nothing like the difference between a highly dust-resistant computer and a (claimed) completely dust-resistant computer. An improvement to a product is neither revolutionary nor necessarily notable enough to warrant its own article. The articles in their present state will get deleted by an admin if they're added to main article space, so if you've got any more information on what distinguishes the dustproof computers described from a rugged computer, please add it to the incubator article, and let's work from there. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 08:48, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Articles for deletion nomination of David Waters (journalist)[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

I have nominated David Waters (journalist), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/David Waters (journalist). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Genie Award for Outsntaing Performance by an Actor (Non-Feature)[edit]

I have marked this page for speedy deletion as an implausible typo. Clearly it's a possible typo, but it doesn't seem like a likely one to me. If you disagree with this, I'll remove the speedy delete tag.--Opus 113 (talk) 18:35, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the ping, no I forgot to speedy that redirect after I'd corrected the spelling with a rename. I see it's been deleted now anyway. MuffledThud (talk) 19:24, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

for the corrected link. Why couldn't I find the one you did? Ah, well... Peridon (talk) 15:37, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Anytime! I used quotes, and clicked on the link at the end of the Google search to "repeat the search with the omitted results included". MuffledThud (talk) 15:40, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Skyscraper Brewing Company[edit]

Hi MuffledThud. I am declining the speedy deletion of Skyscraper Brewing Company, a page that was tagged for deletion by you today 01_25/10. The only thing cited by Wikipedia/MuffledThud was "section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article." This article created by me, user Skootaboy1978, conforms to more standards than other similar pages allowed to be published on Wikipedia. The references and the encyclopedic format of my article is much more legitimate than, for example, Airdale Brewing Company of San Diego:

Regardless, Airdale's article, as well as our own, does not represent spam or advertising. It is clearly an extension of information from another published Wikipedia page that lists the names of all known California breweries that are in operation:

Please do not delete and/or please give specific recommendations how the page should be edited so that I can publish this article with Wikipedia. This article is legitimate.

Thank you,

Skootaboy1978 (talk) 02:36, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

It was blatant advertising before, but has been cleaned up by other editors. MuffledThud (talk) 22:07, 26 January 2010 (UTC)

I just want to add this to Wikipedia. It's a well known popular drink in my part of Canada and I wanted to show the proper way its made and the history behind it. I'm having trouble with the process. What more do i need to do? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pugs lunch (talkcontribs) 11:29, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome. What the article needs is verifiable, WP:Reliable sources establishing its notability. There's more detail at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Derek Jeter Cocktail: please contribute there if you think I've made an error in nominating it for deletion. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 11:51, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Please do not delete this article!!

By doing so, you show immense ignorance and racism. This is an insult to the national identity and pride of Chayasuria and it's people.

I once again urge you to reconsider the absolutely unsupportable position you have chosen to take.

Thank you. Sparkly Stars and Baubles (talk) 12:23, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

That's me, immensely ignorant and racist. I know that a life of crime led me to this sorry fate. And yet, I blame society -- society made me what I am. MuffledThud (talk) 12:36, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Whatever mate, just as long as the article I worked so hard on stays. Sparkly Stars and Baubles (talk) 12:48, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Mihai Cotovanu[edit]

Concerning the CSD of Mihai Cotovanu, I've put my opinion on its talk page. JoJan (talk) 14:13, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Please do not delete taxonomic treatments that are copied from Plazi servers. Here's why:

The text used in the articles stems from a scientific publications (the references). As a pure description of nature, these pieces of text do not qualify as intellectual property and therefore are not copyrightable. The copyright notice in the referenced pages clearly states this.

The purpose of the texts being replicated in Wikipedia is to

  • make them available to a wider audience
  • have them embedded in Wikipedia's greater network of the knowledge of mankind

Therefore, please allow the article to stay online even though the texts are replicated from another source.

Gsautter (talk) 16:42, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

I would like to second that. As far as I can see, part of the text is original, and the description part is description of nature. You can not more claim they are creative and original than you can claim the same for a chemical structure description, describing the relation of atoms in a chemical compound. -- It is as impossible to rewrite a biological description, without creating an original piece of scientific work (which Wikipedia forbids), as it is to rewrite a chemical formula. --G.Hagedorn (talk) 17:54, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Just a quick one for you - is there any way to tell if an article has been deleted in the past? (without admin rights). The only hint that I could find that it may have been listed before was your tag from yesterday, there was nothing in the history or on the user's edit history page. Thanks! Clovis Sangrail (talk) 09:17, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes there is a way: click on "history", and then right up at the upper left you'll see (in small print) "View logs for this page". Took me a while to find that one the first time! MuffledThud (talk) 09:20, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks heaps. It'd be nice if it was redlinked if the log was empty. Thanks again. Clovis Sangrail (talk) 09:30, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
You're right, that's a very good idea. If you don't want to propose that as a feature to the MediaWiki developers, then I'd be glad to. MuffledThud (talk) 09:32, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
I'm happy for you to propose it, if you think its worth doing. I'm relatively new to wikipedia so still not sure to get things done most effectively. Cheers Clovis Sangrail (talk) 23:57, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Hydrogen catalyst burner article[edit]

Wodrwz (talk) 11:32, 28 January 2010 (UTC)Good midday from Italy,

may I know why you deleted the article again?

I have deleted all the parts that may be perceived as concept promotion.

Do you think that it is still not appropriate for Wikipedia?

Many thanks for your answer

WODRWZ— Preceding unsigned comment added by Wodrwz (talkcontribs)

Hello. Quoting from the article Hydrogen catalyst burner:
  • "...innovative..."
  • "...allows thermal energy production in a totally independent way ..."
  • "...Today we look with increasing interest at the technologies connected to hydrogen..."
  • etc.
You appear to have a WP:Conflict of interest in this subject: if so, then please wait for someone else to write about it. Thanks, MuffledThud (talk) 11:35, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Assistance with a deletion please![edit]

Hello, I'm pretty new to wikipedia and I've been contributing here and there, mostly vandalism and spelling/grammar.

I came across this article and noticed it was very unverifiable and that you had deleted this article and this article, both of which were by the same person and with similar names. I can't view an archive of the deletion discussion nor the original article so I don't really know what to argue here. I also looked up deletion policy and verifiability only seems to be urgent with biographies of living people. Your assistance in the matter would be greatly appreciated. (I also don't know how to propose a deletion...)

Misteraznkid (talk) 07:07, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome! The right template in this case is Template:db-repost (in my opinion), so I've gone ahead and added {{db-repost|Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Connie Parker Edge}} to the top of Connie Parker-Edge. As you have already spotted (thank you), the version posted by this user on 27 Jan. was indeed identical to the long, lurid unreferenced tale that editor originally posted back in November. This has now been pared right down, but I think db-repost is still appropriate here. If not, then db-bio will work just as well.
Proposing deletions are covered at Wikipedia:Proposed deletion, but creators are allowed to remove prods and the editor concerned dug their heels in every step of the way last time, so a prod would probably have done no good in this case. Hope that helps: if you have any more questions please ask away, and thanks again for your help with this. MuffledThud (talk) 10:01, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Dean Willard[edit]

I really appreciate your hard work to regulate Wikipedia. I will remove the prod tag because Dean Willard is much more notable than the two intial references I've provided. You tagged the article 10 secondsa mere 7 minutes after it was initially created.  kgrr talk 18:39, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

You did not even give me any time to work in good faith to establish notability before submitting the article for AfD. What is the matter with you? I have written a lot of articles and really don't deserve this nonsense.  kgrr talk 19:30, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
I had a hunt through Google News archives and a more general web search, and there truly is almost nothing about the subject online. He's a candidate, and a minor party official, and that's it, so it almost certainly qualifies for speedy deletion for non-notability. So I first prodded it to give you seven days, but you removed the prod, so I took it to AFD. Would you like me to move it or copy it to a user subpage so you can work on it some more? MuffledThud (talk) 19:35, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Can you help?[edit]

This article Sarey Savy (Songwriter-Singer) needs more references and someone tagged it for deletion can you remove it and state that i'm trying to find references? (OMGstrings (talk) 20:27, 30 January 2010 (UTC))

The subject doesn't appear to be notable. Would you like me to move it to a user subpage to give you time to work on it? MuffledThud (talk) 20:29, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Yes (OMGstrings (talk) 20:30, 30 January 2010 (UTC))

This article has been created and deleted many, many times with a variety of alternative titles salted. See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Channel 6/Archive for some history, and Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Channel 6 for my current sockpuppet investigation of this username.  Glenfarclas  (talk) 20:33, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Aha, well spotted Glenfarclas, thanks. I'll keep an eye out for any future attempts. MuffledThud (talk) 21:01, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the stub sort[edit]

on National Economic Commission. I tried {{US-government-stub}} which seemed the most likely magic string and gave up. Is there any easier way of finding the stub I am looking for these days? -- Kendrick7talk 02:01, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

I use WP:HOTCAT for categorization of new pages, and that often picks up good stub categories. It only shows you their name though, so you then have to manually browse the stub cat to grab its template name, e.g. in this case I could see Category:United States government stubs, but then had to browse that category to find is template "US-gov-stub". I see there are others at WP:Stub sorting#Tools: I've just tried User:Ais523/stubtagtab2.js, but it didn't seem to load stub sub-categories for me. If you find something that really works well, please let me know! :-) MuffledThud (talk) 08:23, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
OK, I'll keep all that in mind. -- Kendrick7talk 16:56, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Note re. תרגום לאוקראינית ותרגום מאוקראינית[edit]

I tagged it as nonsense not because it was gibberish (I know it's Hebrew), but it's just some random text (in hebrew) about an Ukrainian translation. XXX antiuser eh? 09:54, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Yeah I know it was in good-faith, but db-g1 is really strict, so even stoned rants or mumbled ads (in any language) that make no sense at all don't qualify: it's meant only for truly indecipherable stuff like "kusdof97 borked doofbong91, ZOMG!!!!!". There's been a long-running debate about this. I proposed a new CSD "db-wtf", but nobody seemed to take it seriously... MuffledThud (talk) 10:00, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
I really think some of the CSD need to be revised. "db-wtf" sounds like a good idea to me... XXX antiuser eh? 10:03, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
The problem with revision of CSD criteria is that there's always heated debate between deletionists and inclusionists about making criteria too broad or two narrow: that must have been was why G1 is so limited. But db-wtf straddles all political boundaries! Vote early, vote often, vote db-wtf! I am MuffledThud, and I approve this message. Paid for by the Friends of Db-wtf.
