What did I do wrong? I created an account, Niall of the Nine Hostages, and decided I would rather be known as Niall of Nine Hostages. When I looked at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Username_policy#Changing_your_username, it suggested "User accounts with few or no edits will not normally be renamed, as it is quicker and easier to simply create a new account." Unfortunately it would not let me created Niall of Nine Hostages and now my account has been blocked. :( Niall of the Nine Hostages (talk) 12:40, 2 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It wouldn't let you create "Niall of Nine Hostages" because it's too similar to your current name, tripping the anti-phish filter. In cases where the username can't be created due to this, a rename is the only solution and thus will generally be granted. —Jeremy v^_^v Components:V S M 10:14, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I just created an account and feel I have been caught up with the investigation of another user.

Decline reason:

You haven't disclosed the name of the account that was blocked due to its connection with Herchelkrustofsky. This leaves us unable to check the sock records. Make a new request if you can supply the missing information. EdJohnston (talk) 19:12, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I'm confused. You claim above you were trying to set up a new username, and yet your unblock request seems to imply you've been blocked in relation to someone else. Which is it? If you were trying to rename yourself, what is the name of your old account? Hersfold (t/a/c) 00:56, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see your problem; i will contact the blocking admin. Can you please be clear in your own mind as to whether you want to include "the" in your name. --Anthony Bradbury"talk" 16:40, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I not sure if the two are connected. Here is to order as I remember it:
  1. I created this account.
  1. I decided I did not like the name.
  1. I read on Wikipedia on how, when you limited edits it is better to create a new account with the name you desire.
  1. I attempted to create a new account with the slight variation. Wikipedia would not allow it.
  1. At some point I checked on this account and realized there was a block on my account for something I had never heard of at the time sock puppet because of someone (Herschelkrustofsky) whom I have still not looked up. Niall of the Nine Hostages (talk) 12:56, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
What is your relationship to Herschelkrustofsky?--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 16:53, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I would love if my name was just Niall of Nine Hostages. I have never hear of him/her before. I do have Comcast as my service provider. Niall of the Nine Hostages (talk) 00:03, 12 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you all for listening to my case.
