Wayne Eyre[edit]

Hey, how about using File:2023 Halifax International Security Forum (53470564615).jpg or File:2023 Halifax International Security Forum (53470557810).jpg for the article photo? The February 2024 photo just looks odd to me. // sikander { talk } 🦖 04:22, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Sikander, that "odd" look you mentioned above, is the General standing at attention during the Change of Command for United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) and North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD).
Each photo has strengths and weaknesses. My crop shows insignia and ribbon bars very similar to the now outdated (due to his 2021 promotion) 2018 official photo. I think my cropped photo is the best at this time. Thank you for asking. -- Ooligan (talk) 17:36, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ooligan, the February photo looks odd because it is a low-angle shot looking up at the subject, is taken from far below eye-level, and the person is looking away with a non-neutral expression.
Rather than responding about suggestion 1 or suggestion 2, you seem to have taken this personally (even though you are not the photographer) and applied the word "odd" to the event, to the physical stance of the person, and to the subject of the photo with an implication of disrespect towards all. This is very unnecessary, and frankly a bit insulting.
Anyways, good day. // sikander { talk } 🦖 18:58, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, @Sikander. You asked for my opinion and I gave it to you. I have not "taken this personally" as you assume, however, I gave my personal opinion as you had requested. I do appreciate your question and I thank you for asking. We can disagree and still be civil.
You wrote, "Hey how about using ..." and you gave two suggested photo links. I did look at your two suggested photos. I decided not to use either of your suggestions, because of this better photo.
Nothing in my response is disrespectful, nor insulting. As you wrote about me above, perhaps, "you seem to have taken this personally."
Before your first question on my talk page, I had politely, reverted your edit that restored an outdated 2018 photo. That year General Eyre had a lower military rank than today. I also added an archival source link to the page to back up this factual claim. I did not take "that personally," but instead pointed to the fact of the change in this Canadian General Officer's rank in 2021, which made the use of this 2018 photo obsolete.
I have noticed that you have done much great work for many years. Thank you, -- Ooligan (talk) 22:32, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Ooligan, thank you for your follow-up.
In fact I totally agree with your explanation for why the Feb 2024 photo is better a fit since it has updated insignia and ribbons. I suggested the two other photos thinking that you are more-knowledgeable about this and might want to consider them.
Instead the response was: that "odd" look you mentioned above is the General standing at attention during the Change of Command which is not at all about the two suggestions but about word choice, the person in the photo, and the act they are engaged in. If the reply had started at "Each photo has strengths and weaknesses..", then we are being civil and discussing the topic and suggestion. Instead the response was about the word "odd" and that you seem to disagree with the choice of the word and wanted to point out that the general is at attention (with links to the article in case the reader does not know what it means). This is where it felt like a personal response directed at me instead of a response about the topic on hand.
Let's not argue further We've both explained ourselves and I am satisfied and I hope you are as well.
I have also noticed your contributions across Wikimedia sites and I wish you all the best in your efforts since we're trying to make the Internet a better place.
Happy editing Thumbs up icon // sikander { talk } 🦖 23:32, 8 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
