User talk:OurBlackYear
February 2020
[edit]You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.
If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
at the bottom of your talk page.
You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text
{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}
at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.
Thank you. – Juliancolton | Talk 06:13, 27 February 2020 (UTC)OurBlackYear (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
OurBlackYear is NOT the name of an organization or group. I am Maggie Anderson. This Wikipedia page is about me. You categorized me as an "activist" because I took a stand to live off Black businesses for one year. This stand is known as OUR BLACK YEAR. Our Black Year and Maggie Anderson, the activist, are one and the same. My name is so common. So that's why I go by OUR BLACK YEAR. My TED Talk is called OUR BLACK YEAR. But it is not a group or organization. It's just me. My social media handle is OUR BLACK YEAR.
Decline reason:
Generally, usernames cannot promote a cause either. Even if we accept that your username identifies you alone- you would need to prove your identity to Wikipedia(I will provide instructions on how to do this below) and indicate that you have reviewed the autobiography policy. Your edits so far were promotional in nature as well(though this is only a username block). I am declining your request. 331dot (talk) 14:29, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
If you are the person represented by this username, please note that the practice of blocking such usernames is to protect you from being impersonated, not to discourage you from editing Wikipedia. You may choose to edit under a new username (see information below), but keep in mind that you are welcome to continue to edit under this username. If you choose to do so, we ask the following:
- Please be willing and able to prove your identity to Wikipedia.
- Please send an email to info-enwikimedia.org. Be aware that the volunteer response team that handles email is indeed operated entirely by volunteers, and the reply may not be immediate.
If you are not the person represented by this username, you are welcome to choose a new username (see below).
A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account.
You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:
- Adding
{{unblock-un|your new username here}}
below. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "Email this user" on their talk page. - At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
- Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
- Adding
{{unblock|Your reason here}}
below this notice, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. 331dot (talk) 14:30, 27 February 2020 (UTC)OurBlackYear (block log • active blocks • global blocks • autoblocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))

Hello Yamla. You did not tell me how to prove my identity. All you did was give me an email address. I appreciate your help but I would hardly call that detailed instructions. I sent an email. Now, please tell me what else I can do. Or whether there is something specific I am supposed to include in the email. I did not include any attachments because I had no instructions.
Accept reason:
Identity has been confirmed to OTRS. Please note that promotional editing, or editing with a conflict of interest, may still result in sanctions in the future. – Juliancolton | Talk 16:38, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
Please see the instructions above, starting with "If you are the person represented by this username". If you have followed those instructions, you have to wait. There's nothing we can do until the volunteers at info-en@wikimedia.org respond. --Yamla (talk) 15:15, 27 February 2020 (UTC)
The identity of this user account has been verified by the Volunteer Response Team. Full documentation is available to trusted volunteers. If you are an English Wikipedia user and wish to confirm the verification, please leave a note at the VRT noticeboard.
