Adoption[edit]

Okay, let's get you set up. I'll try and keep this as brief as possible...

First up, let me reiterate my earlier welcome message; productive new contributors are always a great addition to Wikipedia. The aim of this adoption is to enable you to hit the ground running, so to speak; I hope to quickly get you up-to-speed on the policies and processes you'll need to know about in order to do constructive work on the encyclopedia - and hopefully enjoy yourself while you're at it.

To that end, I'd like you to create an adoption page for yourself, which will contain various tasks and tests to help you understand how Wikipedia works. Please visit this page and follow the instructions under "Your first task" to create your own adoption page (if you have any trouble, please drop me a line on my talkpage). You can complete the sections in any order you like.

I'd also like to know a bit about what you want to do on Wikipedia; what sort of article you'd like to work on, what areas of the project you'd like to know about, and what your areas of interest are. Leave me a note here or on my talkpage and let me know what floats your boat; I'll try and tailor our work together to emphasise your preferences. I'd also be interested to know how you found out about the adoption programme; it helps us improve the way we present the project to new users if we know how they run across it. If you'd like to add a userbox to show that you're in the adoption process, just add the code {{Adoptee|Yunshui}} to your userpage.

Whilst adoption has no time limit or edit count requirement, I usually un-adopt users if they don't edit for three months or so in a row - this is nothing personal, nor is it intended as a warning; it simply aids me in keeping track of who needs my help. If you go on an extended wikibreak and come back to find yourself removed from the adoption programme, just drop me a line and I'll happily start things up again.

Finally, if you have any problems, suggestions or comments, I'm always open to hearing them; this adoption is about you rather than me, so it's important that you're happy with the way things are going. Let me know if you have any feedback on the adoption process, and I'll try and take your suggestions on board. I look forward to working with you. Yunshui  08:22, 23 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm glad to see you've already completed your first task and started on the Cleanup section; I've left a reply on your adoption page for you.
(By the way, you may find it useful to keep a link on your userpage to the adoption school for easy access - I use my own userpage to link to all the pages I use regularly, in order to save typing them into the search bar every time. You can generate such a link by adding the text [[User:PMChi/Adoption school|My adoption school]] anywhere on the page. This is just a suggestion, it's totally up to you whether you want to do this or not.) Yunshui  08:31, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey PMChi. Hope you've been doing well. I noticed you were interested in a meetup we did at the Pritzker Military Museum & Library last year. The Jane Addams Hull-House Museum is doing an edit-a-thon later next week. It's kind of on a weird day of the week to accommodate students at UIC, but you're welcome to join us if you're free. Let us know if you can make it. I, JethroBT drop me a line 23:27, 25 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
