Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! We appreciate encyclopedic contributions, but some of your recent edits do not conform to our policies. For more information on this, see Wikipedia's policies on vandalism and limits on acceptable additions. If you'd like to experiment with the wiki's syntax, please do so in the sandbox rather than in articles.

If you still have questions, there is a new contributors' help page, or you can write {{helpme}} below this message along with a question and someone will be along to answer it shortly. You may also find the following pages useful for a general introduction to Wikipedia.

I hope you enjoy editing and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Feel free to write a note on the bottom of my talk page if you want to get in touch with me. Again, welcome! the panda ₯’ 12:39, 6 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that the username you have chosen, "Pacnews", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of something other than yourself. Please note that you may not edit on behalf of a company, group, institution, product, or website which relates to the entity in question, and Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or accounts that are shared. If you are willing to use a personal account, please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our Conflict of interest guideline and Plain and simple conflict of interest guide, and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. AnupMehra 11:35, 4 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Sitush. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Ashwant Dwivedi, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Stop icon This is your last warning. The next time you remove or blank page content or templates from Wikipedia, as you did at Ashwant Dwivedi, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Sitush (talk) 03:01, 5 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

And you have done it again this week at the same article! What is your problem? Why not discuss any concerns that you may have? - Sitush (talk) 16:55, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Pacnews: Looking at the text you had added to Ashwant Dwivedi, I find at least one instance of copyright violation, from http://bc.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/ViewPage.action?siteNodeId=24&languageId=1&contentId=37249 (a page that you did not even provide a reference to). Copyright is a serious matter; see Wikipedia:Copyright violations. In some instances we delete from the public record all versions of an article that contain copied passages. Please do not rewrite the article with other people's words! Leave the existing material and references and add details from the other sources you have, with new references to those sources. Otherwise your rewriting is not an improvement and may present legal problems. Yngvadottir (talk) 17:36, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Ashwant Dwivedi may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "{}"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • *{{cite news |title=Fiji diplomat in Canada |work=Pacific Islands Report |publisher=Pacific Islands

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 02:57, 5 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon This is your only warning; if you remove or blank page contents or templates from Wikipedia again, as you did at Ashwant Dwivedi, you may be blocked from editing without further notice.

Pacnews: You must stop removing chunks of the article and replacing them with your own version. Sitush has asked you repeatedly why you are removing text, and he and I have explained that you cannot just copy material from elsewhere and you cannot insert text without references. You need to explain your reasoning at Talk:Ashwant Dwivedi. What you are doing, in addition to blanking and some copyright violation, is edit warring, which is not acceptable. Editors can be blocked for edit warring even if they have not reverted more than 3 times in a 24-hour period. If you continue as you have been doing, I or another administrator will be forced to block you. Stop and talk. That is how we do things here when there is a disagreement. Understanding how to write Wikipedia articles

[edit]

You are obviously a single-purpose account, contributing only to Ashwant Dwivedi. The chances are high that either you are that person, you are related to him or you know him personally. In any event, you are pretty consistently making a mess of things at the article and I'm struggling to clean up the problems that you create. It's not a vendetta against you as a person, though.

There is little doubt in my mind that you would benefit from contributing to a wider range of articles in order to gain exposure to how we actually write things here. There is, for example, no rationale for including every news story that you can find about a person - especially not when they are trivial soundbites or repetitive information - nor is there any need to misrepresent sources by saying he is a "Pacific Islands Diplomat" when, at best, he was a Fijian one. Things like this would be more obvious to you if you were not so constrained by your self-imposed concentration on one article. They would also be more obvious if you actually tried discussing things with other people and listening to what they say. I'm not always right but I am pretty experienced here and, as with anything in life, one key way to learn is to pick up things from those who have done it before.

I'm absolutely fed up with you at the moment, having given you a massive amount of rope over many months. But I'm quite happy to let bygones by bygones if only you can actually demonstrate a willingness to develop your skills here. The article will, in my opinion, be deleted anyway but there is much else here that you could work on in the future if you are prepared to spend a bit of time understanding how Wikipedia works. I rather suspect that we could use more decent contributors for Fiji-related subjects, for example. - Sitush (talk) 18:58, 6 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Further blanking edit

[edit]

Please explain this edit - was it accidental, or what? You removed chunks of a sentence and of a reference. Yngvadottir (talk) 19:03, 6 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

For your information

[edit]

I have launched a sockpuppet investigation (Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Pacnews) as I have the idea that you have created a second account and are misusing that account. The Banner talk 21:16, 6 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The outcome of that investigation is that you are socking. Under normal circumstances, you would probably get a block on this account for a couple of weeks, while your alternate account would be blocked indefinitely. However, since you are continuing even now to make unexplained deletions at the article and you are not engaging further in discussion, I rather suspect that this account will also be blocked indefinitely. Why make things worse for yourself? - Sitush (talk) 13:00, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sitush

I appreciate your contributions. I am not too familiar with how to use Wikipedia however I have spent sometime trying to learn. Finally I am learning something and look forward to your support to positively contribute to this article and others in future.I want to clarify some of the points you have made above. Firstly I am not the person mentioned in the article, I am not a family member and also I do not personally know the individual. I have met him twice during a community engagement and I only follow his articles and know him through community engagement. I should not be seen otherwise. I for sure would like to learn from you as to how I can contribute to this and other articles in wiki in the future. Please do respond so we can carry forward with improvements through meaningful ways. Thanks Sitush.
