Godflesh edits

[edit]

Hi, PalmTreeEden. Thanks for taking in interest in JK Flesh and Post Self. Specifically, I want to talk about your additions to the latter. The table you put up of the Post Self set list was great and well-formatted, but I had to remove it because it was based on a reference from setlist.fm (a user-generated source that breaks Wikipedia policy). I know your info is accurate and I'd love to have the table there, so keep an eye out for a reliable source that lists the sets. Thanks again, CelestialWeevil (talk) 14:57, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Would a recording of a live performance count as a more reliable source? Example Otherwise surely we could use Template:Citation needed until a source surfaces? The vast majority of setlists I've seen on Wikipedia use either setlist.fm (see Us + Them Tour) or completely original research (Greatest Hits Tour (Björk) or every Bowie tour, e.g. Heathen Tour). PalmTreeEden (talk) 09:20, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia generally doesn't like primary sources, like a live performance (WP:PSTS). On top of that, they don't like YouTube links unless they're from an official entity, like, for instance, a Godflesh YouTube channel if there was one (WP:YOUTUBE). As for setlist.fm, you're right, a lot of people use it. However, Wikipedia really doesn't like user-generated stuff (WP:USERG), and in my experience a number of much better, more experienced editors than myself have removed my setlist.fm and discogs links. So, I've come to leave them out entirely. You're right on the citation needed idea; that was be technically alright in most cases. But, at the moment, I'm working on making Godflesh a good topic. Post Self will eventually be a "good article", but to do so it can't have any citation needed tags or dubious sources. If you feel strongly about it, you can restore the table with a citation needed flag; just know that I might have to remove it again in the future unless a proper source is found. Anyway, thanks for the response, it's great to see someone else care about Godflesh's Wikipedia presence, CelestialWeevil (talk) 14:00, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm putting the table here for easy access and so other people know what we're talking about. Also, I changed the heading color to match the album's cover and the quotebox, CelestialWeevil (talk) 14:11, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  6. "Parasite" (from Post Self)
  7. "No Body" (from Post Self)
  8. "Mirror of Finite Light" (from Post Self)

A "Gift from Heaven" from Songs of Love and Hate was played on the first three dates instead.

Your presence in industrial articles

[edit]

Hi again, PalmTreeEden. I just wanted to thank you for your taking initiative on Wasplike, other JK Flesh articles, and some of the Reznor/Ross score articles. It's exciting to see someone else active in these articles for once. Since I started on Wikipedia a couple years ago, most of these areas, especially Broadrick-related stuff, has been dead. Keep up the good work, and if you need help feel free to ask. CelestialWeevil (talk) 17:26, 7 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, and good job for reshaping/expanding the Broadrick articles yourself too. I definitely plan to work on them more, the Jesu albums can definitely use some extra editing. PalmTreeEden (talk) 20:02, 7 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about The Lo Fibre Companion

[edit]

Hello, PalmTreeEden,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether The Lo Fibre Companion should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/The Lo Fibre Companion .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,

TheLongTone (talk) 13:34, 22 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

List of songs recorded by Justin Broadrick

[edit]

Hello again, PalmTreeEden. I recently made this list of songs recorded by Godflesh, and it took a while and taught me a lot. I've been thinking about taking on a massive project: a complete list of songs recorded, remixed, and contributed to by Justin Broadrick. This would basically compile everything he's done professionally in the format you see in that Godflesh song list article. Would you be interested in helping? CelestialWeevil (talk) 21:12, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That does indeed sound like a big undertaking, the number is surely over one thousand. I will be glad to help, particularly since some of the one time projects are rather obscure and as such don't qualify to have their own articles (I see my From Hell article is on its way to get deleted). Over at Justin Broadrick discography I made a (to my knowledge anyway) complete list of JKB's productions and remixes that could come in handy for that project. Your idea would also provide a chance to cover all the songs exclusively released to "various artist" compilations that currently don't fit in the format of the Broadrick discography page. PalmTreeEden (talk) 22:05, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I think you're right. Because it would be over a thousand, we'd have to divide the table in some way (otherwise clicking the sort buttons might cause troubles for users on slow computers). Writer, contributor, producer, and remixer might make it manageable, but I'm not sure yet. The first thing we'd have to do, though, would be to compile a basic text document (with an alphabetizing function) with all the song names, what band those songs were released under, and what album they first appeared on. That alone would take a very long time. CelestialWeevil (talk) 22:09, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@PalmTreeEden: I've started a google docs spreadsheet to compile all the songs. If you give me your email, I can invite you to edit it. CelestialWeevil (talk) 22:50, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@CelestialWeevil: Use palmtr33eden@gmail.com to contact me. Cheers. PalmTreeEden (talk) 01:22, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@PalmTreeEden: Thank you, I've sent the spreadsheet share your way. So far I have all of the Godflesh and JK Flesh songs. It's a start, at least. CelestialWeevil (talk) 01:36, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
