Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you translated text from U. Nahon Museum of Italian Jewish Art to another page. While you are welcome to translate Wikipedia content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing requires that you provide attribution to the contributor(s) of the original article. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, this is supplied at a minimum in an edit summary on the page where you add translated content, identifying it as a translation and linking it to the source page. For example: Content in this edit is translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Exact name of French article]]; see its history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if translation is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{translated page}} template on the talk pages of the destination article. If you have added translated content previously which was not attributed at the time it was added, please add attribution retrospectively for that also, even if it was a long time ago. You can read more about author attribution and the reasons for it at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Broc (talk) 09:46, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Israeli allegations against UNRWA

[edit]

Considering that your first ever edit to the article is a revert against a talk page consensus without even participating in those discussions, I am interested to know what brought you to the article? Selfstudier (talk) 10:42, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I came across information online saying that the un confirmed some unrwa staff involvement in the October 7 massacres. I searched for more information online and then found this relevant article. I noticed that the article included a biased title and a lengthy list of controversies that seemed unrelated to the main topic. Then I realized these additions were made on the same day so I reverted them. Can such a limited discussion with three people supporting then reverted by two opposing really be considered a consensus? This seems really strange to me that this is how we define consensus. PeleYoetz (talk) 09:20, 8 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The discussions have not been "limited" and have been taking place for some time, which you would know had you bothered to read any of the talk page before blindly reverting based on a POV. Nearly all of the additions relate to Israeli allegations against UNRWA so that's not correct either. In future, maybe familarize yourself properly with the history of a page before barging in and making hasty ill considered edits. As I have commented in the ongoing RM, I find it odd that both yourself and another editor, both new to the page, never having edited there before, show up at the same time to reinforce each others opinion and make the same revert. DYK for Cuisine of Jerusalem

[edit]

On 10 August 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Cuisine of Jerusalem, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the cuisine of Jerusalem reflects a blend of Jewish culinary traditions, including Sephardic, Kurdish, Ashkenazi, as well as Palestinian Arab traditions? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Cuisine of Jerusalem. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Cuisine of Jerusalem), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Recanati winery, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dalton. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

DYK for Kitāb al-ṭabīẖ

[edit]

On 4 September 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Kitāb al-ṭabīẖ, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Kitāb al-ṭabīẖ, a medieval Andalusian cookbook, contains an early version of Jewish challah bread (pictured), which traveled with Jews expelled from Spain and likely influenced Ashkenazi cuisine? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Kitāb al-Ṭabikh fī al-Maghrib wa al-Andalus fī ʽAṣr al-Muwaḥḥidīn, li-muʽallif majhūl. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Kitāb al-ṭabīẖ), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Second Intifada

[edit]

I am still waiting for your answer: [1]. Makeandtoss (talk) 10:26, 4 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Communication is not optional

[edit]

If you make any further reverts to Second Intifada without first engaging in discussion, or if you revert on any other ARBPIA pages without engaging in discussion you will be topic banned. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 19:26, 5 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@ScottishFinnishRadish, I think you're not coming good on PeleYoetz. Communication is important but this is an escalation of wording, and possibly unfair punishment. That PeleYoetz is new and knows the rules less is just extra reason to explain to the user in the proper way. This is especially strange when much worse violations from experienced editors go ignored. Communication is not optional, but it must be done in an engaging way that helps the user without scaring the user, especially when this is the first time ever PeleYoetz is even contacted by an admin. ABHammad (talk) 11:44, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh please. Stop with the nonsense. PeleYoetz is not new and is well aware of all of the rules. She is an extremely experienced editor with over 70,000 edits. She has never been a big communicator. Sean.hoyland (talk) 11:50, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
What??? PeleYoetz (talk) 12:02, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Now I am curious to know how PeleYoetz responded just 18 minutes after ABHammad somehow appeared here despite having never interacted with PeleYoetz on their talk page, and after having ignored talk page messages and pings for at least six days. Can both of you explain? Makeandtoss (talk) 12:05, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I do not even understand the question. I arrived here just like others arrived here. You are being rude.
@ScottishFinnishRadish Look what is happening here. Aspersion casting on steroids. It begins with asking a user not to deal with a subject (see Golan Heights), it continues with accusing a user that the user is a user with 70,000 edits. And now asking this rude question "ABHammad somehow appeared here despite having never interacted with PeleYoetz on their talk page". I am asking you to intervene. ABHammad (talk) 12:15, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I had notified SFR about PeleYoetz's behavior, so, no, you did not arrive here "like others." I am still waiting for an explanation on how you arrived here, and how a response was made 18 minutes later? I am not casting any aspersions, I am assuming good faith by asking legitimate questions, as maybe there are other explanations. Makeandtoss (talk) 12:22, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Valereee, Seraphimblade, Newyorkbrad, and Ealdgyth: I'm pinging you all as you were involved in the closing of Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Enforcement/Archive333#Makeandtoss and M.Bitton where we issued warning that, per Seraphimblade's wording is very final, and anything else like this is going to mean sanctions. This isn't terribly severe aspersion casting, but it is casting aspersions. I'd like to give others an opportunity to give their opinion before I act. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 21:19, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If we're just talking about the pointy questions Makeandtoss is asking here, I'm not sure it actually rises to the level of battleground behavior, unless there's something I'm missing? Valereee (talk) 09:52, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
ABHammad seems to have lumped several issues they or PeleYoetz are facing with several editors across several articles into one comment; I have nothing to do with any of them aside from the questions I posed here. Makeandtoss (talk) 10:19, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, I am not lumping anything, @Makeandtoss, I think your above comments are aspersions castings that only join more examples from recent weeks such as the reinstation of reverted edits [2], undiscussed controversial moves, [3], general aggressive battleground mentality in discussions [4] [5], and selective removal of sourced content [6]. ABHammad (talk) 12:03, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think pointed questions have to have some evidence aside from "also showed up at a discussion another random editor showed up at." Maybe I'm a bit sensitive to the socking accusations, but asking Now I am curious to know how PeleYoetz responded just 18 minutes after ABHammad somehow appeared here despite having never interacted with PeleYoetz on their talk page, and after having ignored talk page messages and pings for at least six days. Can both of you explain? is just saying "I think you're coordinating off-wiki," which is casting aspersions. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 13:40, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't disagree that it's casting aspersions. But is it battleground behavior worthy of a topic ban? I'm not sure it is, but I'm also not going to object to another admin deciding it is. Valereee (talk) 18:46, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ScottishFinnishRadish, in addition to my above diffs, I think you should check this too. Makeandtoss has now also approved an ARBPIA DYK despite it being sourced to problematic sources and fails neutrality. ABHammad (talk) 08:11, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See escalation of commitment. Your strategy does not maximize the overall benefit to Wikipedia in my view. You are not helping PeleYoetz. Sometimes it's best to say nothing. Sean.hoyland (talk) 12:35, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Amnesia? Try to stay out of trouble. Do it for Wikipedia. Sean.hoyland (talk) 12:09, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @ScottishFinnishRadish, I am sorry I didn't answer before, I honestly did not have much time since then and has made only a couple of edits since that revert. Anyway I do make an effort to engage in discussions, and I'll make sure in the future that I don't revert without doing so. PeleYoetz (talk) 12:49, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
PY, 'the future' should start right now by responding to the questions you've been asked at Second Intifada and Golan Heights. If you aren't willing to respond to pings in this topic area, you probably should not be editing in this topic area and you absolutely should not be reverting in this topic area. Valereee (talk) 09:58, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Valereee, I apologize for the late response, I've been a bit busy recently. I understand that Wikipedia is voluntary, so I wasn't aware there was an expectation for immediate replies. Did I violate any rules? PeleYoetz (talk) 06:40, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Editing is voluntary, but when you edit after someone has expressed a concern without responding to those concerns, you're arguably being disruptive. Communication is necessary in a collaborative atmosphere. You can't simply ignore other editors. Valereee (talk) 15:58, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And for the record, I'd certainly recommend you respond at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Clarification_and_Amendment#Statement_by_PeleYoetz. Arbitrators are unlikely to take "I was busy" as an excuse when you've made nearly 100 edits since being informed of it a month ago. Arbitrators can and do block or topic ban people who don't bother to show up at Arbitration. Appealing such a block/ban is not a piece of cake. Valereee (talk) 17:02, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
