GNU/Linux[edit]

Please see the editing guideline MOS:LINUX. It was established as a result of years of discussion. If you continue to change "Linux" to "GNU/Linux" everywhere you see it, your edits will continue be reverted (either by me or another editor). Thanks, and happy editing! – voidxor 00:05, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, PerfectBike
I have noticed that your rename of article Trisquel to Trisquel GNU/Linux has been contested by User:Voidxor and reverted. You may seek an appeal by starting a rename request discussion.
To avoid double redirects and a break down of navigation templates, and in lieu of the MOS:LINUX concern raised by Voidxor, many of your edits that involved changing Trisquel to Trisquel GNU/Linux have been reverted.
By the way, I share Voidxor's concern.
Best regards,

Speaking of which, remember that Wikipedia tends to refer to things, especially in article titles, as their commonly recognizable name, which may not always be their most "technically correct" name or the "official" name. Conciseness and precision are both important, but which conciseness is improved by not adding "Linux" (nevermind "GNU/Linux") to every distribution, precision is often not augmented, because there is nothing to disambiguate with. LjL (talk) 02:08, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@LjL: Yes, but a search for "Trisquel" gets 408,000 results, while "Trisquel GNU/Linux" gets only 75,100. Since every webpage that has "Trisquel GNU/Linux" will also be in the search results for "Trisquel", we'll subtract 75,100 from the former. That's still 333k versus 75k. So Trisquel is the more common name per WP:COMMONNAME. – voidxor 02:14, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That is what I am saying.......? LjL (talk) 02:19, 7 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It was not clear to whom you were directing your comment. I thought you were contesting what Lisa or I had said. – voidxor 22:08, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
