What Can I do to make Trenegy article acceptable? I realize now that some of the content could be seen as advertising but in all honesty when you are writing an encylcopedia article you have to talk about why this company is unique. OK. Read WP:NPOV which is about neutral point of view. You must write as if you are not connected to the company. 'Solutions' are out, unless you are referring to brine and ammonia and their like. They are solutions. Business 'solutions' = jargon and or public relations department let loose. "unique Five-S model, addressing compelling business issues that require Skill, Speed,Simple, Share, and Sustain" - no. "equips organizations for growth and change" - no. These are meaningless stuff designed for a brochure or AboutUs profile. You can tell us what the company does, but not in generalities that may impress someone who believes that Frotho really washes whiter, but do not belong in an encyclopaedia. Don't 'offer' - here that is often taken to be spammy. There must be no use of 'we', 'our' or 'you' or 'your'. That says spam. Apart from these (and that's just a sample), the majority of your references are to the company site. You can use one or three, but not for showing notability. That has to be done with independent reliable sources WP:RS. No blogs, forums, wikis, own sites, subsidiaries' sites, CEO's personal sites, PRWire, AboutUs, Facebook and Co, and not the National Enquirer, The Sun or The Red Gulch Mercury (incorporating the Deadman's Flats Undertaker and Herald) (est. 2010). Look for refs first. No refs, no point in going on. Then create an article at User:Mtilton123/DRAFT. Next, ask for advice. User:MelanieN and User:Cindamuse are fair-minded and helpful, and so are most regular editors and admins. Sorry if I've been rather rude about your article - I prefer to not beat about the bush. how to create and have it checked before going public or getting it deleted

Hi Peridon

Is there a way I can add edits to a wiki page, and have them verified before they go public?

My last page was simply deleted before it was even started, and to do it again, I'd rather do it and get it approved before it goes public or randomly deleted.

No. There was a review scheme tried out (I was a reviewer), but it got dropped. Some other language Wikipedias do it - I waited a month for an edit on the Hungarian one to go live. As to your page, it wasn't randomly deleted. We don't do that. Only admins can delete pages - you couldn't even delete your own page. It looked like spam, and contained a copyvio. If you want to get a page reviewed, create it at User:Ukwebb/DRAFT and head it DRAFT. Then, having done what I said above about refs, ask for an opinion. Most regulars and admins are willing to give opinions. Very friendly (under normal circunstances) are User:MelanieN and User:Cindamuse, or if you prefer an admin from over here, User:Boing! said Zebedee or User:JamesBWatson. Or me - I'm usually polite until I find I'm talking to a dyed in the wool vandal. Read WP:RS about references, and if you want to try them on us just post them to a userpage of ours and ask what we think. (No blogs, forums, company or club own sites, wikis or sites like that of the Downby in the Swamp Camping Site and Marina - which it is depends on the weather...). Good luck. I zapped this as spam, not seeing that you had just restored it saying "not sure it's spam." I reckoned with the author's username "BWITMadison" showing obvious COI, constant trademark-like repetition of "BEST WESTERN PLUS" in caps, and text like "upgraded amenities compared to the other floors... complimentary cocktails and hors d'ouevres", it was over the line, and would have been A7 non-notable company otherwise. dear Peridon. Talking about the reason of the article deletion (copyright violation), could you please tell me the steps I should make to post this article on english wiki?? The person himself (please notice that) Arkady Melua is an owner of the domain humanistica.ru and he is an author of HIS OWN BIOGRAPHY ARTICLE. Talking about my connection to this person and my rights to post an article about Arkady Melua (any info related to humanistica.ru) - he approved himself placing the article on wiki by me.. I can approve my connection to the person, domani name and to this organization (humanistica) by writing you back from the e-mail adress nik.bilak@humanistica.ru

Is it possible to post an article about the scientist on the english branch of wiki??

Please tell me the exact steps to do that.

p.s. I do have the permission of the author (scientist himself) and his good will to post this article on wiki.

p.p.s. the german wiki staff only asked me about the confirmation letter form the e-mail address containing humanistica.ru domain. and that was pretty enough for them to make shure there's no any copyright violations. I still want you to pay attention to the fact, that an article about a livin scientist (biography) can not be fully rewritten, coz it still will contain facts and dates, that can not be changed. The content in the last deleted version of the article WAS unique.

I'm sorry, but the German Wikipedia may do things differently. Here, release of copyright text can only be done by email from the owner of the copyright directly to us. Intermediaries are not acceptable. The article can be rewritten - but it must not follow the original as closely as your version did. That was still a copyright violation (in our eyes). A possible problem is that you say that he wrote the original. Please see WP:AUTOBIO. In any case, there will have to be referencing (see WP:RS) in reliable independent sources to confirm things in the article. Without this, the article would be liable to deletion after a week. The subject of the article himself is not considered as a reliable source for establishing notability. Please note also that any article on Wikipedia can be edited by anybody and the text can be used anywhere under Creative Commons - the only restriction there is that it should be acknowledged as coming from Wikipedia. The permission of any person for posting an article about them is not a requirement here, and there are quite a few articles about people who have tried to get the articles removed or altered. Can you show that he meets WP:BIO and provide reliable independent sources to prove it? Also, please see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. I looked at that other article, and tagged it as I could not see notability there either. Neither being a lawyer nor being a candidate gives notability here on the English language Wikipedia. It may be different elsewhere - obviously is, or the article's different in the case of Rolandas Valiūnas on the Lithuanian Wikipedia. Sorry, being an honorary consul or a candidate does not give notability. He may have an article at the German Wikipedia, but that doesn't mean he will get one here. The different language Wikipedias work to different rules, and this one is stricter on notability and referencing than any of the other sixteen I've made edits on, so far as I can see. Peridon, what you say is certainly the case in general, but in general I am somewhat reluctant to delete an article in another Wikipedia , especially on a figure from that country, unless it looks like it would almost certainly be deleted there and they haven't got around it it yet. I'm not sure whether or not that goes for ltWP, where it has been since '07, because I don't know their standard--and I don't know the language, or the sources from that country. But I do known the standard for the deWP, and they are much stricter than we are especially for BLP. (It has been there since June '11) In any case, what was said is enough of an assertion to pass A7, though not necessarily notability. I would restore it and let what can be said for it be said in AfD. I'm not sure myself what I will say there, but it is not a speedy. I would be, as I said, fully prepared to restore it to main space, but since it has no 3rd party refs, and the third party red in deWP seems a dead link, it is essential for it to be improved by having some 3rd party references, such as from newspapers.. It can't stay in enWP without them. (the deWP, despite its higher notability standard than our's, is often more careless about 3rd party references than we, if they think the subject obviously notable). And that would be a reason for BLPPROD here regardless of what they do there. If two decent refs are added, I will move it back myself, but I hope Peridon would also. Whenever I see something like "that a rare few will know of", I tend to assume that that really means "no-one except the author". In this case I saw a mishmash - the name and appearance of the deity appearing to be derived from Cernunnos, while the Garden of Eden is a Judaeo-Christian concept, and 'shangrala' or rather Shangri-La, is totally fictional. I would suggest that you provide some evidence in reliable independent sources - see WP:RS - and if there aren't any to be found, have a look at WP:OR. There are no existing 'teachings' of Cernunnos, and most gods don't tend to 'teach'. That is down to their priests and/or prophets on the whole. BTW when adding a section to a talk page, please do so at the bottom of the page, give it a heading inside two pairs of equals signs, and finish off with ~~~~ which puts your signature and the datestamp in, like this: Peridon (talk) 10:20, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear Peridon,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.


So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.


Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. Hello,

I noticed you recently deleted the page Sewing circles (Mennonite). I created that page to differentiate it from the Sewing circles page which, as the talk suggests, is pretty heinous. As a relatively inexperienced Wikipedia user, I didn't feel I possessed the clout to take that particular situation on and so attempted to skirt it by creating a new page which would hopefully someday be connected to a more reliable page on sewing circles, and one that discussed the phenomenon in Mennonite circles. What course of action do you suggest I take? What exactly about that page caused you to delete it? (So I know what to do differently with other pages to make them conform to Wikipedia standards) Would take it upon yourself, as a more experienced Wikipedia user, to take action on the main Sewing circles page?

Actually, no, I didn't. I deleted a redirect entitled Sewing Circle(Mennonite) - note the lack of space between Circle and the (. This is a routine thing when there is a redirect that someone finds (usually left over after a page has been moved to correct the title), and it's something that isn't a really likely search term. Bearcat moved it from your original (he does a lot of the housekeeping stuff and categories and so on), and the page is still alive and kicking at Sewing circle (Mennonite). You had me worried there - I read the page out of interest and it looked fine to me. Peridon (talk) 21:05, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
Not sure what to do about the other page. I've never heard the term, but then I'm not a cinema goer (and don't watch films on the telly or video because my TV hasn't worked for over 10 years, and I dumped the VHS machines into the recycling). You'd be better seeing someone in the Film Project or whatever they call it. Possibly Articles for Deletion is the course to take, but get in touch with the Project first. Deletion of Tyler Brown

I am very disappointed that you deleted Tyler Brown. Your reason for deletion is not true, because the article that I wrote does indicate the importance or significance of the subject, and I do not understand why you are entitled to be the sole judge what articles should be deleted. I am not the sole judge - it was tagged by a patroller and I agreed with their tag. I was entrusted with the job of administrator (along with some 1500 others) by a community decision. There have to be administrators. otherwise the place couldn't run. I was going on the standards set in WP:NBASKETBALL, and so far as I am aware university and college students are not professional. deletion of Elijah MC

Hey buddy, i posted a page called Elijah MC earlier and it was almost instantly deleted. I'm not quite sure why this was. everything i posted was accurate and informative. I would very much appreciate the opportunity to repost the page with any amendments necessary for the page to be allowed. luckily i saved all the work i'd done on it. I've got doubts about that one too... But see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Articles here aren't 'approved'. New ones may be reviewed, with the aim of weeding out ones that don't fit. Otherwise, any article can be deleted any time. I've deleted one over three years old that had got away with it until a bright patroller found it somehow and tagged it as a hoax. (I agreed, and had to go into the Portuguese Wikipedia to get the transwiki linking sorted.) If you can come up with something that complies with our policy on reliable independent sources WP:RS to show that this subject fits with WP:BAND (our policy on musicians in general), maybe you stand a chance. But read WP:NPOV - our policy on neutral point of view - as your wording bordered on the promotional. Peridon (talk) 20:36, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Dear Peridon,

Thank you for your advice regarding the change of username, furthermore if you are not busy, it would be greatly appreciated if you could give me some guidance in order to publish the aforesaid article/biography for Colin Earl.

Firstly for clarification, the copyright issue mentioned - Colin Earl biography is published on my website which is networked with 4 other domain names that I own.

Secondly there was some mention of conflict of interest - Colin Earl is someone whom I know only a few months but was very suprised that his biography has never been published thus why I thought it would be a good idea to try (try) and publish it on wikipedia.

I myself would like to publish several more articles mainly on Chinese Silk Embroideries (14 different techniques) and expand on the current knowledge of Thangka & Bris-Thang.

OK. The basic info was OK but a little application of WP:NPOV would be advisable when rewriting. No-one objected on grounds of notability or promotion, but copyright comes second on the list for deletion priority - first is attack, of course. Both have to go. Look at at some other biographies and the style and tone of the writing. Find references - look at WP:RS (and WP:BIO). There must be at least one to avoid the BLP prod notice (proposed deletion - bio of living person). There must be something to show that the subject has been covered in outside sources - articles in magazines, etc. RS will tell you more. Start the article at User:PNIU/Earldraft, and as it's not spam or copyvio (not this time) or attack, it'll be safe from the patrollers for long enough to get sorted. Don't start building it in the main article space. When you've got something together, get in touch again - or if you have queries sooner. Or get an opinion from User:MelanieN who is very fairminded, and as an American she may not have the knowledge of Earl's cartoons that I do. Any other articles you have in mind, look at existing ones on similar subjects and start them off in userspace too. Saves hassle. After the first couple, you'll have an idea of what's what, and need for opinions will fade away. Sunstar company

I wanted to add information about Sunstar company of the kind that you can read about any major company you can find on wikipedia, ie sony,nestle,etc how to do this without being blocked ?

You were blocked for the use of the company name coupled with the prospect of promotion. Read WP:SPAM, WP:NPOV, WP:CORP and WP:RS. NPOV is neutral point of view, and RS is independent reliable sources. Look at other company articles. If you find one that's tagged for spam or advertisement, work out why. If not, it's probably a fairly good model if it's been around for more than three weeks and not carrying tags. Remember that this is an encyclopaedia, not a directory. Someone wrote an article about a big profitable company that was deleted for lack of notability. They made own brand goods for supermarkets - and absolutely nothing else. Loads of people ate their stuff - no-one had heard of them. (Except their employees, the supermarket chain buyers, a few farmers, and, of course, the Infernal Revenue...) Not one mention in the press. Fair or unfair? We aren't here to log everything and everyone. Physically impossible for a start. Practically impossible, too. Allow everything, and you'll be swamped with 'Josh is awwweeessssooommmmeeee!!!!!!' articles. (He isn't, quite obviously.) CORP gives info on corporate notability. Start there. Put your draft at User:Mark billinge/draftSunstar. (Just click that to get the new page.) If it gets tagged for spam, work out why. Don't copy and paste from the company site - that will vanish quicker than the morning dew. Ask for opinions. Don't just take my word, get someone else to look at it. You won't get blocked this time, unless you repeatedly violate the copyright rules, persistently remove tags, or do something equally egregious like totally ignoring advice from established editors to stop something. Urshan College

I was wondering what I might be able to do about the removal of Urshan College. This is a college that has already been approved and will host its first classes this fall. It was formerly called "Gateway College of Evangelism" (aka Gateway). Recently, however, they were bought by Urshan Graduate School of Theology (UGST) and the two schools are merging to create a new school called "Urshan College". You can go to Gateway's website at www.gatewaycollege.net or to UGST's website ugst.edu and find this information. I do not attend the new school, but I went to Gateway College of Evangelism as well as Urshan Graduate School of Theology. Now that the two schools are merging, I wanted to make an article which simply provided information about the new school. It is not meant to be promotional. It says that it was deleted for G8 that it did not have valid resources, but all of the resources that I used are current webpages that you can view. In addition, all of the information can be found on the new school's website at upcicollege.org or through a link on either gatewaycollege.net or ugst.edu. (Edit conflict) The trouble (as I see it) is that it's not yet open - and statements like "Urshan College exists to educate, empower, and equip Apostolics for life and servant leadership in the church and the world" don't really help. (See WP:NPOV) If you can find reliable independent coverage (see WP:RS), then it's worth ironing out the last wrinkles. As it stood, it was referenced solely to upci pages. Stuff in advance (with the exception of things like a new Harry Potter from J.K.Rowling that is officially confirmed, or the 2012 Olympic Games, even though a stray asteroid might flatten the whole site yet) is usually advance promotion. Yes well. RS rules out all things like Facebook and LinkedIn, as well as blogs and forums, for showing notability. The Battle Creek one is a copy of a personal statement from someone who is involved, and may not count as an independent source. Look at RS and have another go. Thank you for the clarification! The statement "Urshan College exists to educate, empower, and equip Apostolics for life and servant leadership in the church and the world" is actually their mission statement similar to St. Louis Christian College's statement "Saint Louis Christian College (SLCC) pursues excellence in the Word and develops servant leaders for urban, suburban, rural, and global ministry." found at http://www.slcconline.edu/about/our_mission_statement/. Urshan College and SLCC actually work very closely together and offer programs in conjunction with each other (you take about 90 credits at Urshan College and 30 at SLCC to get a degree). So, their mission statement is similar to SLCC's. I guess I could simply put that under a new heading "Mission" as to not confuse readers. Technically, the school has been in operation for years, but it is now changing its name as these two schools merge. Sorry that I did not make that clear. It is somewhat confusing. I could clarify this in the article. Also, I am new to this, so how do I access this site to edit it now that it has been deleted? Is there a way to send it to you for your advice before I repost it? Looking better. I've done some tweaks, being an inveterate proofreader and nitpicker. The quotation marks on the Mission Statement are to avoid copyright worries. I suppose the referencing will do. What is the problem with CR_Narayanan page.

Peridon, may I know what is the problem with CR_Narayanan page. In what basis you can say this is "Article about a real person, which does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject". I strongly beleave you should revert this page.

Please read WP:BIO. A CEO or a company founder is regarded by many as having some claim to an article (dependent on the size and/or notability of the company, obviously), but a chief information officer (or one of most other positions too) does not have this presumption. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, but a lot of people do not understand this. They think that because anyone is allowed to edit, anything can be posted. At LinkedIn (for example), anyone can post their profile. LinkedIn is for people to post profiles and (as the name suggests) link with other professionals. Wikipedia is for people and things that have achieved (or received...) a certain level of notability. Notability here is used in our sense, which may not be the same as in all dictionaries. There are many worthy people who are doing their jobs well, doing voluntary work, or similar, but who don't get articles. If you still thing the article should be included, you can take it to WP:DRV for review. Please do not feel that we are belittling you - the vast majority of people don't get articles. By the way, when posting in talk pages please sign at the end with ~~~~ which puts the name and datestamp on, like this: Peridon (talk) 12:26, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

The only improvements that I would suggest are linkwork: the user might better be able to understand "Please see our no-advertising and neutral point of view policies" than "Please see WP:SPAM and WP:NPOV about promotion, and neutral point of view", for example, or you could use the end of "Multiple use of accounts is against our rules" as anchor text a WP:ROLE link. I have no complaints or suggestions for improvement for the text itself; this came across as being as firm as necessary but as soft as possible. Nyttend (talk) 14:25, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

About G4

This is a problem area. You can spot an AfD by the link to the discussion that's in the warning notice - 'Proposed Deletion' is PROD, and 'Speedy Deletion' says so. If it's AfD and the same author has posted the title again, it could well be the same text. Only an admin (and the author) will be able to tell. There are cases where a title comes up often - but it's a different article each time. Even about a different John Smith-Jones from the one you remember, having voted delete in it. (There's one at AfD right now - title deleted eight times and restored once, but not the same article or even about the same person.) Admins just click the delete button, and get the deletion history - and can then look at the previous versions. All in all, G4 is really best for an admin who's just going off duty, or a patroller who was actually involved in the AfD. Otherwise leave it alone. I'd say. The admin dealing with it will see the history, and will decide on the virtues anyway. Peridon (talk) 18:05, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

Hello Peridon, my name is Marcus David Harris and in 1977 and 78 I filmed ITV's adaptation of the Famous Five. My colleague actors in the series are all linked in the Famous Five posting. I used to be linked to a listing written by somebody else but that disappeared and I am linked in the German language page. OK. Several reasons, actually. I don't know what's in the other articles, but being known for one part as a child actor isn't always notable (unless the part is named Potter, Granger or Weasley...). There was nothing after that that would fit with WP:BIO. You gave no references - these are essential for bios of living people (usually BLP here - we like alphabet soup). And then there was "You can find him on twitter @xxxxxx and you can watch his show reel on xxx". That counts as promotion. Not approved of. Actually, writing about yourself isn't, either, but I didn't know that at the time. Stick to that username and no-one else will (except for the talkpage stalkers who find this page funny or informative - or are waiting to pounce on me. Or even all three.) Have a look at WP:COI about conflict of interest. It's not forbidden, but you have to be extra careful to be neutral. If you can find references and want another go, let me know - but 'watch him at...' goes. I am still an Enid Blyton fan, and so is a younger cousin - someone gave her a sack of EB books when she was nine and we didn't see her for the rest of the day - when she'd sorted them out and let me have some that she already had... Have a look at other articles, dig for refs, and when you've an idea of what to do I'll userfy the deleted version for you. (There are words used in the behind the scenes of Wikipedia that you never find outside - 'disambiguate' is another, and occasionally 'recuse'.). The Bryan J. Baldelli hoax and Lieutenant Kije

You might be amused that fictitious military personnel did not just exist in the Imperial Russian Army. In an American army unit serving in Germany, we had a nonexistent Richard P. Schaedel that someone slipped into the official records (but only locally). Over a period of many months or a few years, the NCOs never figured it out, but a little knowledge of German should have made them suspicious of a soldier named "Dick Schaedel". A sergeant would occasionally be heard yelling that "Dick Schaedel didn't show up for KP again" (Kitchen police = scrubbing pots and such). "When I find him I'm going to kick his a**!" They also never caught on to the fact that the cider I got from the NAAFI wagon was alcoholic. In the US, cider is just unfiltered apple juice. Happy editing!
